Then it was reported to Joab, “The king is weeping and mourning over Absalom.”
2 ൨ എന്നാൽ രാജാവ് തന്റെ മകനെക്കുറിച്ച് വ്യസനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ആ ദിവസം ജനം കേട്ടതുകൊണ്ട് അന്നത്തെ ജയം ജനങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാം ദുഃഖമായ്തീർന്നു.
And that day’s victory was turned into mourning for all the people, because on that day they were told, “The king is grieving over his son.”
So they returned to the city quietly that day, as people steal away in humiliation after fleeing a battle.
4 ൪ രാജാവ് മുഖം മൂടി: എന്റെ മകനേ അബ്ശാലോമേ! അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ, എന്റെ മകനേ! എന്ന് ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
But the king covered his face and cried out at the top of his voice, “O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!”
5 ൫ അപ്പോൾ യോവാബ് അരമനയിൽ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞത്: ഇന്ന് നിന്റെയും നിന്റെ പുത്രീപുത്രന്മാരുടെയും നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരുടെയും വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെയും ജീവനെ രക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരെയും നീ ഇന്ന് ലജ്ജിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ ശത്രുക്കളെ സ്നേഹിക്കുകയും സ്നേഹിതരെ വെറുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
Then Joab went into the house and said to the king, “Today you have disgraced all your servants who have saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters, of your wives, and of your concubines.
6 ൬ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ഭൃത്യന്മാരും നിനക്ക് ഒന്നുമല്ല എന്ന് നീ ഇന്ന് കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അബ്ശാലോം ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുകയും ഞങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരും ഇന്ന് മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ നിനക്ക് നല്ല പ്രസാദമാകുമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് എനിക്ക് ഇന്ന് മനസ്സിലായി.
You love those who hate you and hate those who love you! For you have made it clear today that the commanders and soldiers mean nothing to you. I know today that if Absalom were alive and all of us were dead, it would have pleased you!
7 ൭ ആകയാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് പുറത്തു വന്നു നിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോട് സന്തോഷമായി സംസാരിക്കുക; നീ പുറത്തു വരാതിരുന്നാൽ യഹോവയാണ, ഈ രാത്രി ആരും നിന്നോടുകൂടെ താമസിക്കുകയില്ല; അത് നിന്റെ യൗവനംമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ നിനക്ക് ഭവിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള സകലഅനർത്ഥത്തെക്കാളും വലിയതായിരിക്കും.
Now therefore get up! Go out and speak comfort to your servants, for I swear by the LORD that if you do not go out, not a man will remain with you tonight. This will be worse for you than all the adversity that has befallen you from your youth until now!”
8 ൮ അപ്പോൾ രാജാവ് എഴുന്നേറ്റ് പടിവാതില്ക്കൽ ഇരുന്നു. രാജാവ് പടിവാതില്ക്കൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ജനത്തിനെല്ലാം അറിവ് കിട്ടി; സകലജനവും രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വന്നു.
So the king got up and sat in the gate, and all the people were told: “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” So they all came before the king. Meanwhile, the Israelites had fled, each man to his home.
9 ൯ യിസ്രായേല്യർ അവരവരുടെ വീടുകളിലേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോയിരുന്നു. എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേൽ ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലുമുള്ള ജനം ഒക്കെയും തമ്മിൽ തർക്കിച്ചു: രാജാവ് നമ്മെ നമ്മുടെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്ന് രക്ഷിച്ചു; അവൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്ന് നമ്മെ വിടുവിച്ചു. ഇപ്പോഴോ അബ്ശാലോം നിമിത്തം അവൻ നാട്ടിൽനിന്ന് ഓടിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.
And all the people throughout the tribes of Israel were arguing, “The king rescued us from the hand of our enemies and delivered us from the hand of the Philistines, but now he has fled the land because of Absalom.
10 ൧൦ നമുക്ക് രാജാവായി നാം അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്ത അബ്ശാലോമോ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു. ആകയാൽ രാജാവിനെ തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് നിങ്ങൾ ഒന്നും പറയാതിരിക്കുന്നത് എന്ത്? എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
But Absalom, the man we anointed over us, has died in battle. So why do you say nothing about restoring the king?”
11 ൧൧ പിന്നീട് ദാവീദ് രാജാവ് പുരോഹിതന്മാരായ സാദോക്കിന്റെയും അബ്യാഥാരിന്റെയും അടുക്കൽ ആളയച്ച് പറയിച്ചത്: നിങ്ങൾ യെഹൂദാമൂപ്പന്മാരോട് പറയേണ്ടത്: രാജാവിനെ അരമനയിലേക്ക് തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെയും സംസാരം അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾ രാജാവിനെ അരമനയിലേക്ക് തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ നിങ്ങൾ പിമ്പന്മാരായി നില്ക്കുന്നത് എന്ത്?
Then King David sent this message to Zadok and Abiathar, the priests: “Say to the elders of Judah, ‘Why should you be the last to restore the king to his palace, since the talk of all Israel has reached the king at his quarters?
12 ൧൨ നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാർ; എന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും അല്ലയോ? രാജാവിനെ മടക്കിവരുത്തുന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ നിങ്ങൾ പിമ്പന്മാരായി നില്ക്കുന്നത് എന്ത്?
You are my brothers, my own flesh and blood. So why should you be the last to restore the king?’
13 ൧൩ നിങ്ങൾ അമാസയോട്: നീ എന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും അല്ലോ? നീ യോവാബിന് പകരം എപ്പോഴും എന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ സേനാപതിയായിരിക്കുന്നില്ല എങ്കിൽ ദൈവം ഇതും ഇതിലധികവും എന്നോട് ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു പറയുവിൻ.
And say to Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God punish me, and ever so severely, if from this time you are not the commander of my army in place of Joab!’”
14 ൧൪ ഇങ്ങനെ അവൻ സകല യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരുടെയും ഹൃദയം ഒന്നുപോലെ ആകർഷിച്ചു. ആകയാൽ അവർ: നീയും നിന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരും മടങ്ങിവരുവിൻ എന്ന് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.
So he swayed the hearts of all the men of Judah as though they were one man, and they sent word to the king: “Return, you and all your servants.”
15 ൧൫ അങ്ങനെ രാജാവ് മടങ്ങി യോർദ്ദാനിൽ എത്തി. രാജാവിനെ എതിരേറ്റ് യോർദ്ദാൻ കടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുപോരേണ്ടതിന് യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ ഗില്ഗാലിൽ ചെന്നു.
So the king returned, and when he arrived at the Jordan, the men of Judah came to Gilgal to meet him and escort him across the Jordan.
16 ൧൬ ബഹൂരീമിലെ ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ ഗേരയുടെ മകൻ ശിമെയിയും യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടി ദാവീദ് രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്ക്കുവാൻ ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു.
Then Shimei son of Gera, a Benjamite from Bahurim, hurried down with the men of Judah to meet King David,
17 ൧൭ അവനോടുകൂടി ആയിരം ബെന്യാമീന്യരും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനായ സീബയും അവന്റെ പതിനഞ്ചുപുത്രന്മാരും ഇരുപതു ഭൃത്യന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവർ രാജാവ് കാൺകെ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നുചെന്നു.
along with a thousand men of Benjamin, as well as Ziba the steward of the house of Saul and his fifteen sons and twenty servants. They rushed down to the Jordan before the king
18 ൧൮ രാജാവിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ ഇക്കരെ കടത്തേണ്ടതിനും അവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിനും ചങ്ങാടം അക്കരെ ചെന്നിരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ ഗേരയുടെ മകനായ ശിമെയി യോർദ്ദാൻ കടക്കുവാൻ പോകുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വീണു രാജാവിനോട്:
and crossed at the ford to carry over the king’s household and to do what was good in his sight. When Shimei son of Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell down before the king
19 ൧൯ എന്റെ യജമാനൻ എന്റെ കുറ്റം എനിക്ക് കണക്കിടരുതേ; എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവ് യെരൂശലേമിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട ദിവസം അടിയൻ ചെയ്ത ദോഷം രാജാവ് മനസ്സിൽ വയ്ക്കുകയും ഓർക്കുകയും അരുതേ.
and said, “My lord, do not hold me guilty, and do not remember your servant’s wrongdoing on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. May the king not take it to heart.
20 ൨൦ അടിയൻ പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് അറിയുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ട് അടിയൻ ഇതാ, എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്‍ക്കേണ്ടത്തിന് ഇറങ്ങിവരുവാൻ യോസേഫിന്റെ സകലഗൃഹത്തെക്കാളും മുമ്പനായി ഇന്ന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
For your servant knows that I have sinned, so here I am today as the first of all the house of Joseph to come down to meet my lord the king.”
21 ൨൧ എന്നാൽ സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ അബീശായി: യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനെ ശപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ശിമെയി അതുനിമിത്തം മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടതല്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
But Abishai son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD’s anointed?”
22 ൨൨ അതിന് ദാവീദ്: സെരൂയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരേ, ഇന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ എനിക്ക് എതിരാളികളാകേണ്ടതിന് ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് എന്തുചെയ്തു? ഇന്ന് യിസ്രായേലിൽ ഒരുവനെ കൊല്ലാമോ? ഇന്ന് ഞാൻ യിസ്രായേലിന് രാജാവെന്ന് ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ? എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And David replied, “Sons of Zeruiah, what have I to do with you, that you should be my adversaries today? Should any man be put to death in Israel today? Am I not indeed aware that today I am king over Israel?”
So the king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” And the king swore an oath to him.
24 ൨൪ ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ മെഫീബോശെത്തും രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്ക്കുവാൻ വന്നു; രാജാവ് പോയ ദിവസംമുതൽ സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവന്ന ദിവസംവരെ അവൻ തന്റെ പാദങ്ങൾ സംരക്ഷിക്കുകയോ താടി ഒതുക്കുകയോ വസ്ത്രം അലക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തിരുന്നില്ല.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or trimmed his mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king had left until the day he returned safely.
25 ൨൫ എന്നാൽ അവൻ രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്ക്കുവാൻ യെരൂശലേമിൽ നിന്നു വന്നപ്പോൾ രാജാവ് അവനോട്: മെഫീബോശെത്തേ, നീ എന്നോടുകൂടി വരാതെയിരുന്നത് എന്ത്? എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
And he came from Jerusalem to meet the king, who asked him, “Mephibosheth, why did you not go with me?”
26 ൨൬ അതിന് അവൻ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞത്: എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, എന്റെ ദാസൻ എന്നെ ചതിച്ചു; കഴുതപ്പുറത്ത് കയറി, രാജാവിനോടുകൂടി പോകേണ്ടതിന് കോപ്പിടണമെന്ന് അടിയൻ പറഞ്ഞു; അടിയൻ മുടന്തനല്ലോ.
“My lord the king,” he replied, “because I am lame, I said, ‘I will have my donkey saddled so that I may ride on it and go with the king.’ But my servant Ziba deceived me,
27 ൨൭ അവൻ എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോട് അടിയനെപ്പറ്റി നുണയും പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവ് ദൈവദൂതനെപ്പോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ട് തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊള്ളുക.
and he has slandered your servant to my lord the king. Yet my lord the king is like the angel of God, so do what is good in your eyes.
28 ൨൮ എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ അടിയന്റെ പിതൃഭവനമൊക്കെയും മരണയോഗ്യർ ആയിരുന്നു; എന്നിട്ടും അടിയനെ അവിടത്തെ മേശയിങ്കൽ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ആക്കി; രാജാവിനോട് സങ്കടം പറവാൻ അടിയന് ഇനി എന്ത് അവകാശമുള്ളു?
For all the house of my grandfather deserves death from my lord the king, yet you have set your servant among those who eat at your table. What further right, then, do I have to keep appealing to the king?”
29 ൨൯ രാജാവ് അവനോട്: നീ നിന്റെ കാര്യം ഇനി അധികം പറയുന്നത് എന്തിന്? നീയും സീബയും നിലം പകുത്തെടുത്തുകൊള്ളുവിൻ എന്നു ഞാൻ കല്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
The king replied, “Why say any more? I hereby declare that you and Ziba are to divide the land.”
30 ൩൦ മെഫീബോശെത്ത് രാജാവിനോട്: അല്ല, അവൻ തന്നെ മുഴുവനും എടുത്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ; എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവു സമാധാനത്തോടെ അരമനയിൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And Mephibosheth said to the king, “Instead, since my lord the king has safely come to his own house, let Ziba take it all!”
31 ൩൧ ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ ബർസില്ലായിയും രോഗെലീമിൽനിന്നു വന്നു, രാജാവിനെ യോർദ്ദാനക്കരെ കടത്തി യാത്ര അയയ്ക്കുവാൻ അവനോടുകൂടി യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു.
Now Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and send him on his way from there.
32 ൩൨ ബർസില്ലായിയോ എൺപതു വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു വൃദ്ധനായിരുന്നു; രാജാവ് മഹനയീമിൽ വസിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലത്ത് അവൻ ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങൾ അയച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവൻ മഹാധനികൻ ആയിരുന്നു.
Barzillai was quite old, eighty years of age, and since he was a very wealthy man, he had provided for the king while he stayed in Mahanaim.
33 ൩൩ രാജാവ് ബർസില്ലായിയോട്: എന്നോടുകൂടി വരുക; നീ എന്നോടൊപ്പം യെരൂശലേമിൽ ഉള്ള കാലത്തോളം ഞാൻ നിനക്കായി കരുതും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
The king said to Barzillai, “Cross over with me, and I will provide for you at my side in Jerusalem.”
34 ൩൪ ബർസില്ലായി രാജാവിനോട് പറഞ്ഞത്: ഞാൻ യെരൂശലേമിൽ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടി പോരേണ്ടതിന് ഞാൻ ഇനി എത്ര നാൾ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കും?
But Barzillai replied, “How many years of my life remain, that I should go up to Jerusalem with the king?
35 ൩൫ എനിക്ക് ഇന്ന് എൺപതു വയസ്സായിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലതും ചീത്തയും എനിക്ക് തിരിച്ചറിയാമോ? ഭക്ഷണപാനിയങ്ങളുടെ രുചി അടിയന് അറിയാമോ? ഗായകന്മാരുടെയും ഗായികമാരുടെയും സ്വരം എനിക്ക് ഇനി കേട്ടു രസിക്കാമോ? എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന് അടിയൻ ഭാരമായിത്തീരുന്നത് എന്തിന്?
I am now eighty years old. Can I discern what is good and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or drinks? Can I still hear the voice of singing men and women? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?
36 ൩൬ അടിയൻ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടക്കുവാൻ മാത്രമേ വിചാരിച്ചുള്ളൂ; രാജാവ് ഇതിനായി എനിക്ക് ഈ വിധം പ്രത്യുപകാരം ചെയ്യുന്നത് എന്തിന്?
Your servant could go with the king only a short distance past the Jordan; why should the king repay me with such a reward?
37 ൩൭ എന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിൽ എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെയും അമ്മയുടെയും കല്ലറയുടെ അടുക്കൽവച്ചു മരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് അടിയനെ വിട്ടയച്ചാലും; എന്നാൽ നിന്റെ ദാസനായ കിംഹാം ഇതാ; അവൻ എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടി പോരട്ടെ; നിനക്ക് പ്രസാദമായത് അവന് ചെയ്തു കൊടുത്താലും.
Please let your servant return, that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what is good in your sight.”
38 ൩൮ അതിന് രാജാവ്: കിംഹാം എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ; നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം ഞാൻ അവന് ചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കാം; നീ എന്നോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതെല്ലാം ഞാൻ നിനക്കായി ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
The king replied, “Chimham will cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good in your sight, and I will do for you whatever you desire of me.”
39 ൩൯ പിന്നെ സകലജനവും യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു. രാജാവ് യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നശേഷം ബർസില്ലായിയെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്ത് അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൻ സ്വദേശത്തേക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed over. The king kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and Barzillai returned home.
40 ൪൦ രാജാവ് ഗില്ഗാലിൽ ചെന്നു; കീംഹാമും അവനോടുകൂടി പോയി; യെഹൂദാജനം മുഴുവനും യിസ്രായേൽജനം പകുതിയും കൂടി രാജാവിനെ അകമ്പടി ചെയ്തു.
Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham crossed over with him. All the troops of Judah and half the troops of Israel escorted the king.
41 ൪൧ അപ്പോൾ യിസ്രായേൽപുരുഷന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു രാജാവിനോട്: ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ രാജാവിനെയും അങ്ങയുടെ കുടുംബത്തെയും ദാവീദിന്റെ സകലപരിചാരകന്മാരെയും മോഷ്ടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യോർദ്ദാൻ കടത്തിയത് എന്ത്? എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Soon all the men of Israel came to the king and asked, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, take you away secretly and bring the king and his household across the Jordan, together with all of David’s men?”
42 ൪൨ അതിന് യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും യിസ്രായേൽ പുരുഷന്മാരോട്: രാജാവ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുത്ത ബന്ധു ആയതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ; പിന്നെ ഈ കാര്യത്തിന് നിങ്ങൾ കോപിക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന്? ഞങ്ങൾ രാജാവിന്റെ ചെലവിൽ വല്ലതും തിന്നുവോ? അവൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് വല്ല സമ്മാനവും തന്നുവോ? എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
And all the men of Judah replied to the men of Israel, “We did this because the king is our relative. Why does this anger you? Have we ever eaten at the king’s expense or received anything for ourselves?”
