1 ൧ പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളുടെ ഭാര്യ എലീശയോട് നിലവിളിച്ച് പറഞ്ഞത്: “നിന്റെ ദാസനായിരുന്ന എന്റെ ഭർത്താവ് മരിച്ചുപോയി; നിന്റെ ദാസൻ യഹോവാഭക്തനായിരുന്നു എന്ന് നിനക്കറിയാമല്ലോ; എന്റെ ഭർത്താവ് കടക്കാരനായി മരിച്ചതിനാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ആ കടക്കാരൻ എന്റെ രണ്ടു മക്കളെ അടിമകളാക്കുവാൻ ഭാവിക്കുന്നു”.
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets to Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant feared the LORD: and the creditor hath come to take to my two sons to be his slaves.
2 ൨ എലീശ അവളോട്: “ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് എന്ത് ചെയ്തു തരണം എന്ന് പറയുക; വീട്ടിൽ നിനക്ക് എന്താണുള്ളത്?” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചു. “ഒരു ഭരണി എണ്ണയല്ലാതെ അടിയന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ മറ്റൊന്നും ഇല്ല” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു.
And Elisha said to her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thy handmaid hath not any thing in the house, except a pot of oil.
3 ൩ അതിന് അവൻ: “നീ ചെന്ന് നിന്റെ അയല്ക്കാരോട് ഒഴിഞ്ഞ പാത്രങ്ങൾ വായ്പ വാങ്ങുക; പാത്രങ്ങൾ കുറവായിരിക്കരുത്.
Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4 ൪ പിന്നെ നീയും നിന്റെ മക്കളും അകത്ത് കയറി വാതിൽ അടച്ച്, ഒഴിഞ്ഞ പാത്രങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം എണ്ണ പകരുക; നിറഞ്ഞ പാത്രങ്ങൾ ഒരു ഭാഗത്തുമാറ്റിവക്കുക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And when thou hast come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5 ൫ അവൾ അവനെ വിട്ട് വീട്ടിൽചെന്ന് തന്റെ മക്കളോടുകൂടെ അകത്ത് കടന്ന് വാതിൽ അടച്ചു; മക്കൾ അവൾക്ക് പാത്രങ്ങൾ കൊടുക്കുകയും അവൾ അവയിലേക്ക് എണ്ണ പകരുകയും ചെയ്തു.
So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6 ൬ പാത്രങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞശേഷം അവൾ തന്റെ മകനോട്: “ഇനിയും പാത്രം കൊണ്ടുവരുക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ അവളോട്: “പാത്രം ഒന്നും ഇല്ല” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ എണ്ണ നിന്നുപോയി.
And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said to her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stopped flowing.
7 ൭ അവൾ ചെന്ന് ദൈവപുരുഷനോട് ഈ കാര്യം അറിയിച്ചു. “നീ പോയി ഈ എണ്ണ വിറ്റ് കടം വീട്ടുക. മിച്ചമുള്ള പണം കൊണ്ട് നീയും മക്കളും ഉപജീവനം കഴിച്ചുകൊള്ളുക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children on the rest.
8 ൮ ഒരു ദിവസം എലീശാ ശൂനേമിലേക്ക് പോയി; അവിടെ ധനികയായോരു സ്ത്രീ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൾ അവനെ വീട്ടിൽ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുവാൻ വരേണം എന്ന് നിർബ്ബന്ധിച്ചു. അതിനുശേഷം അവൻ ആ വഴി പോകുമ്പോഴൊക്കെയും ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് അവിടെ കയറും.
And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread.
9 ൯ അവൾ തന്റെ ഭർത്താവിനോട്: “നമ്മുടെ വഴിയിലൂടെ മിക്കവാറും കടന്നുപോകുന്ന ഈയാൾ വിശുദ്ധനായോരു ദൈവപുരുഷൻ എന്ന് ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നു.
And she said to her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, who passeth by us continually.
10 ൧൦ നമുക്ക് വീട്ടിൻ മുകളിൽ ചെറിയ ഒരു മാളികമുറി ഉണ്ടാക്കാം; അതിൽ ഒരു കട്ടിലും മേശയും കസേരയും നിലവിളക്കും വെക്കാം; അവൻ നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കൽ വരുമ്പോൾ അവന് അവിടെ പാർക്കാമല്ലോ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, with walls; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a lampstand: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in there.
And it fell on a day, that he came there, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
12 ൧൨ അവൻ തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനായ ഗേഹസിയോട്: “ശൂനേംകാരത്തിയെ വിളിക്ക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ അവളെ വിളിച്ചു. അവൾ അവന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വന്നുനിന്നു.
And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
13 ൧൩ അവൻ അവനോട്: “നീ ഇത്ര താല്പര്യത്തോടെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി കരുതിയല്ലോ? നിനക്ക് വേണ്ടി എന്ത് ചെയ്യേണം? രാജാവിനോടോ സേനാധിപതിയോടോ നിനക്ക് വേണ്ടി എന്തെങ്കിലും പറയേണ്ടതുണ്ടോ?” എന്ന് നീ അവളോട് ചോദിക്ക, എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന് അവൾ: “ഞാൻ സ്വജനത്തിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേ വസിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said to him, Say now to her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among my own people.
14 ൧൪ എന്നാൽ അവൾക്കുവേണ്ടി എന്തുചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയും എന്ന് അവൻ ചോദിച്ചതിന് ഗേഹസി: “അവൾക്ക് മകനില്ലല്ലോ; അവളുടെ ഭർത്താവ് വൃദ്ധനും ആകുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.
And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
16 ൧൬ അപ്പോൾ അവൻ: “വരുന്ന ആണ്ടിൽ ഈ സമയം ആകുമ്പോൾ നീ ഒരു മകനെ മാറിൽ അണെക്കുവാൻ ഇടയാകും” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്ന് അവൾ: “അല്ല, ദൈവപുരുഷനായ എന്റെ യജമാനനേ, അടിയനോട് ഭോഷ്ക് പറയരുതേ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said, About this season, next year, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie to thy handmaid.
And the woman conceived, and bore a son at that season that Elisha had said to her, according to the set time.
And when the child was grown, it happened on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19 ൧൯ അവൻ അപ്പനോട്: “എന്റെ തല, എന്റെ തല” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ ഒരു ബാല്യക്കാരനോട്: “ഇവനെ എടുത്ത് അമ്മയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ട് പോകുക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said to his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
20 ൨൦ അവൻ ബാലനെ എടുത്ത് അവന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു; അവൻ ഉച്ചവരെ അവളുടെ മടിയിൽ ഇരുന്നശേഷം മരിച്ചുപോയി.
And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
21 ൨൧ അപ്പോൾ അവൾ മാളികമുറിയിൽ കയറിച്ചെന്ന് അവനെ ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ കട്ടിലിൽ കിടത്തി, വാതിൽ അടെച്ച് പുറത്തിറങ്ങി.
And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
22 ൨൨ പിന്നെ അവൾ തന്റെ ഭർത്താവിനെ വിളിച്ചു: “ഞാൻ വേഗത്തിൽ ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കൽ പോയിവരേണ്ടതിന് എനിക്ക് ഒരു ഭൃത്യനെയും ഒരു കഴുതയെയും തരണമേ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And she called to her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
23 ൨൩ അതിന് അവൻ: “ഇന്ന് നീ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ പോകുന്നത് എന്തിന്? ഇന്ന് അമാവാസ്യയോ, ശബ്ബത്തോ അല്ലല്ലോ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. “സാരമില്ല” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said, Why wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
24 ൨൪ അങ്ങനെ അവൾ കഴുതപ്പുറത്ത് കോപ്പിട്ട് കയറി ഭൃത്യനോട്: “കഴുതയെ വേഗത്തിൽ തെളിച്ചുവിടുക; ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞല്ലാതെ വഴിയിൽ എവിടെയും നിർത്തരുത്” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.
25 ൨൫ അവൾ കർമ്മേൽപർവ്വതത്തിൽ ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തി; ദൈവപുരുഷൻ അവളെ ദൂരത്ത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ തന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനായ ഗേഹസിയോട്: “അതാ, ശൂനേംകാരത്തി വരുന്നു; നീ ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് അവളെ എതിരേറ്റ്:
So she went and came to the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:
26 ൨൬ ‘സുഖം തന്നെയോ? ഭർത്താവ് സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ? ബാലന് സുഖമുണ്ടോ?’ എന്ന് അവളോടു ചോദിക്കേണം” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. “സുഖം തന്നേ” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു.
Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say to her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.
27 ൨൭ അവൾ പർവ്വതത്തിൽ ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അവന്റെ കാൽക്കൽ വീണു; ഗേഹസി അവളെ പിടിച്ചു മാറ്റുവാൻ അടുത്തുചെന്നപ്പോൾ ദൈവപുരുഷൻ: “അവളെ വിടുക; അവൾക്ക് വലിയ മനോവ്യസനം ഉണ്ട്; യഹോവ അത് എന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതെ മറച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is sorrowful within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.
28 ൨൮ “ഞാൻ യജമാനനോട് ഒരു മകനെ ചോദിച്ചിരുന്നുവോ? എന്നെ ചതിക്കരുതേ എന്ന് ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു.
Then she said, Did I ask a son from my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?
29 ൨൯ ഉടനെ അവൻ ഗേഹസിയോട്: “നീ അരകെട്ടി എന്റെ വടിയും കയ്യിൽ എടുത്ത് പോകുക; നീ ആരെ എങ്കിലും കണ്ടാൽ വന്ദനം ചെയ്യരുത്; നിന്നെ വന്ദനം ചെയ്താൽ പ്രതിവന്ദനം പറയുകയും അരുത്; എന്റെ വടി ബാലന്റെ മുഖത്തു വെക്കേണം” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go thy way: and if thou shalt meet any man, greet him not; and if any shall greet thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
30 ൩൦ എന്നാൽ ബാലന്റെ അമ്മ: “യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാൻ നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവൻ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അവളോടുകൂടെ പോയി.
And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
31 ൩൧ ഗേഹസി അവർക്ക് മുമ്പായി ചെന്ന് വടി ബാലന്റെ മുഖത്തു വെച്ചു; എങ്കിലും ബാലൻ അനങ്ങുകയോ ഉണരുകയോ ചെയ്തില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് അവൻ അവനെ എതിരേൽക്കുവാൻ മടങ്ങിവന്നു: “ബാലൻ ഉണർന്നില്ല” എന്ന് അറിയിച്ചു.
And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Therefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awakened.
And when Elisha had come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them both, and prayed to the LORD.
34 ൩൪ പിന്നെ അവൻ കയറി ബാലന്റെമേൽ കിടന്നു; തന്റെ വായ് ബാലന്റെ വായ്മേലും തന്റെ കണ്ണ് അവന്റെ കണ്ണിന്മേലും തന്റെ ഉള്ളംകൈകൾ അവന്റെ ഉള്ളം കൈകളിന്മേലും വെച്ച് അവന്റെമേൽ കമിഴ്ന്നുകിടന്നപ്പോൾ ബാലന്റെ ദേഹത്തിന് ചൂടുപിടിച്ചു.
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child became warm.
35 ൩൫ അവൻ ഇറങ്ങി മുറിയിൽ അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും നടന്നിട്ട് പിന്നെയും കയറി അവന്റെമേൽ കവിണ്ണുകിടന്നു; അപ്പോൾ ബാലൻ ഏഴു പ്രാവശ്യം തുമ്മി കണ്ണ് തുറന്നു.
Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36 ൩൬ അവൻ ഗേഹസിയെ വിളിച്ചു; “ശൂനേംകാരത്തിയെ വിളിക്ക” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു; അവൻ അവളെ വിളിച്ചു. അവൾ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നപ്പോൾ അവൻ: “നിന്റെ മകനെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് പൊയ്ക്കൊൾക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she had come in to him, he said, Take up thy son.
37 ൩൭ അവൾ അകത്ത് ചെന്ന് അവന്റെ കാല്ക്കൽ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചശേഷം തന്റെ മകനെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് പോയി.
Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
38 ൩൮ അനന്തരം എലീശാ ഗിൽഗാലിൽ പോയി; അന്ന് ദേശത്ത് ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; പ്രവാചകഗണം അവന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവൻ തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനോട്: “നീ വലിയ കലം അടുപ്പത്ത് വെച്ച് പ്രവാചക ഗണത്തിനു പായസം ഉണ്ടാക്കുക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a famine in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said to his servant, Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets.
39 ൩൯ ഒരുത്തൻ ചീര പറിപ്പാൻ വയലിൽ ചെന്നു; ഒരു കാട്ടുവള്ളി കണ്ട് മടിനിറയ പേച്ചുര പറിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവർ അറിയായ്കയാൽ അരിഞ്ഞു പായസക്കലത്തിൽ ഇട്ടു.
And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.
40 ൪൦ അവർ അത് ആളുകൾക്കു വിളമ്പി; അവർ പായസം കുടിക്കുമ്പോൾ നിലവിളിച്ചു; “ഹേ ദൈവപുരുഷാ, കലത്തിൽ മരണം” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat of it.
41 ൪൧ അവർക്ക് ആ പായസം കുടിക്കുവാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. “മാവ് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ” എന്ന് അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു അത് കലത്തിൽ ഇട്ടു: “ആളുകൾക്ക് വിളമ്പികൊടുക്കുക എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ദോഷകരമായതൊന്നും കലത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.
But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
42 ൪൨ അനന്തരം ബാൽ-ശാലീശയിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരാൾ ദൈവപുരുഷന് ആദ്യഫലമായി ഇരുപത് യവത്തപ്പവും മലരും തോൾസഞ്ചിയിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. “ജനത്തിന് അത് തിന്നുവാൻ കൊടുക്ക” എന്ന് അവൻ കല്പിച്ചു.
And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of grain in its husk. And he said, Give to the people, that they may eat.
43 ൪൩ അതിന് അവന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരൻ: “ഞാൻ ഇത് നൂറുപേർക്ക് എങ്ങനെ വിളമ്പും?” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചു. അവൻ പിന്നെയും: “ജനത്തിന് അത് ഭക്ഷിക്കുവാൻ കൊടുക്കുക, അവർ തിന്നുകയും ശേഷിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
And his servant said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall have some left.
44 ൪൪ അങ്ങനെ അവൻ അവർക്ക് വിളമ്പിക്കൊടുത്തു; യഹോവയുടെ വചനപ്രകാരം അവർ തിന്നുകയും ശേഷിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
So he set it before them, and they ate, and left some, according to the word of the LORD.
