1 ൧ ആഹാബിന് ശമര്യയിൽ എഴുപത് പുത്രന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. യേഹൂ യിസ്രായേൽപ്രഭുക്കന്മാർക്കും മൂപ്പന്മാർക്കും ആഹാബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ വളർത്തിയവർക്കും ശമര്യയിലേക്ക് എഴുത്തുകൾ എഴുതി അയച്ചത് എന്തെന്നാൽ:
There were seventy descendants of King Ahab who were living there in Samaria. Jehu wrote a letter [and made copies of it] and sent them to the rulers of the city, to the elders, and to those who raised and tutored Ahab’s children.
2 ൨ “നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും രഥങ്ങളും കുതിരകളും ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണവും ആയുധങ്ങളും നിങ്ങളുടെ കൈവശം ഉണ്ടല്ലോ.
[This is what he wrote]: “You are the ones who are [taking care of] the king’s descendants. You have chariots and horses and weapons, and you live in cities that have walls around them. So as soon as you receive this letter,
3 ൩ ആകയാൽ ഈ എഴുത്ത് നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തിയാൽ ഉടൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരിൽ ഉത്തമനും യോഗ്യനുമായവനെ കണ്ടെത്തി അവന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തിൽ ഇരുത്തി നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിനുവേണ്ടി യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുവിൻ”.
choose one of the king’s sons, the one who is the best qualified, and appoint him to be your king. Then [prepare to] fight to defend him.”
4 ൪ അവരോ ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു: “രണ്ടു രാജാക്കന്മാർക്ക് അവനോട് എതിർത്തുനിൽക്കുവാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ; പിന്നെ നാം എങ്ങനെ നില്ക്കും?” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
But [when they got those letters from Jehu and read them], they became very afraid. They said, “King Joram and King Ahaziah could not resist him; (how can we resist him?/we cannot possibly resist him!)” [RHQ]
5 ൫ ആകയാൽ രാജധാനിവിചാരകനും നഗരാധിപതിയും മൂപ്പന്മാരും പുത്രന്മാരെ വളർത്തിയവരും യേഹൂവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ആളയച്ച്: “ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ ദാസന്മാർ; ഞങ്ങളോട് കല്പിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാം; ഞങ്ങൾ ഒരുത്തനെയും രാജാവാക്കുന്നില്ല; നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊള്ളുക എന്ന് പറയിച്ചു. അവൻ രണ്ടാമതും എഴുത്ത് എഴുതി: “നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ പക്ഷം ചേർന്ന് എന്റെ കല്പന കേൾക്കുമെങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ തല നാളെ ഈ നേരത്ത് യിസ്രായേലിൽ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ”.
So the officer who was in charge of the palace and the mayor of the city sent a message to Jehu saying, “We want to serve you, and we are ready to do whatever you tell us to do. We will not appoint anyone to become our king. You do whatever you think is best.”
So Jehu sent a second letter to them, writing this: “If you (are on my side/want to help me), and if you are ready to obey me, [kill] King Ahab’s descendants [and cut off their heads and] bring their heads to me here in Jezreel at this time tomorrow.” The seventy descendants of King Ahab were being brought up and supervised by the leaders of [Samaria] city.
7 ൭ ഈ എഴുത്ത് അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അവർ രാജകുമാരന്മാരെ എഴുപതുപേരെയും കൊന്ന് അവരുടെ തല കൊട്ടയിൽ ആക്കി യിസ്രായേലിൽ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.
When they received the letter from Jehu, they killed all seventy of Ahab’s descendants and [cut off their heads]. They put their heads in baskets and sent them to Jehu at Jezreel.
8 ൮ ഒരു ദൂതൻ വന്ന് അവനോട്: “അവർ രാജകുമാരന്മാരുടെ തല കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് അറിയിച്ചു. “അവയെ പടിപ്പുരവാതില്ക്കൽ രണ്ടു കൂമ്പാരമായി കൂട്ടി രാവിലെവരെ വച്ചേക്കുവിൻ” എന്ന് അവൻ കല്പിച്ചു.
A messenger came to Jehu and told him, “They have brought the heads of Ahab’s descendants.” So Jehu commanded that the heads should be put in two piles at the city gate and that the heads should stay there until the next morning.
9 ൯ പിറ്റെന്നാൾ രാവിലെ അവൻ പുറത്തു ചെന്നുനിന്ന് സർവ്വജനത്തോടും പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ: “നിങ്ങൾ നീതിമാന്മാർ; ഞാനോ എന്റെ യജമാനന് വിരോധമായി കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി അവനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; എന്നാൽ ഇവരെ ഒക്കെയും കൊന്നത് ആർ?
The next morning he went out [to the city gate] and said to all the people, “I am the one who plotted against King Joram and killed him. You are not guilty of doing that. But [it was Yahweh, not I] [RHQ] who [commanded that] all these [descendants of Ahab should be] killed.
10 ൧൦ ആകയാൽ യഹോവ ആഹാബ് ഗൃഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നും നിഷ്ഫലമാകുകയില്ല എന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളുവിൻ; യഹോവ തന്റെ ദാസനായ ഏലീയാവ് മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തത് നിവർത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ”.
So you need to know that everything that Yahweh said would happen has happened. He has caused to happen what he told the prophet Elijah would happen.”
11 ൧൧ അങ്ങനെ യേഹൂ യിസ്രയേലിൽ, ആഹാബ് ഗൃഹത്തിൽ, ശേഷിച്ചവരെ ഒക്കെയും അവന്റെ സകലമന്ത്രിമാരേയും ബന്ധുക്കളെയും പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ആരും ശേഷിക്കാതെവണ്ണം സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
Then Jehu executed all the other relatives of Ahab in Jezreel, and all Ahab’s officers, and close friends, and his priests. He did not allow any of them to remain alive.
Then Jehu left [Jezreel] and went toward Samaria. While he was going there, at a place called ‘Shepherds’ Camp’,
13 ൧൩ യെഹൂദാ രാജാവായ അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ കണ്ടിട്ട്: “നിങ്ങൾ ആർ” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചു. ഞങ്ങൾ അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാർ; രാജാവിന്റെയും രാജ്ഞിയുടെയും മക്കളെ വന്ദനം ചെയ്യുവാൻ പോകുകയാകുന്നു” എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.
he met some relatives of King Ahaziah of Judah. He asked them, “Who are you?” They replied, “We are relatives of King Ahaziah. We are going to Jezreel to visit the children of Queen Jezebel and the other members of King [Joram’s] family.”
14 ൧൪ അപ്പോൾ അവൻ: “അവരെ ജീവനോടെ പിടിക്കുവിൻ” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു; അവർ അവരെ ജീവനോടെ പിടിച്ചു; അവരെ നാല്പത്തിരണ്ടുപേരെയും രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന വീടിന്റെ കളത്തിൽവച്ച് കൊന്നു; അവരിൽ ഒരുത്തനെയും ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചില്ല.
Jehu said to his men, “Seize them!” So they seized them and killed all of them at the pit named Beth-Eked. There were 42 people whom they killed; they did not allow any of them to remain alive.
15 ൧൫ അവൻ അവിടെനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ തന്നെ എതിരേൽക്കുവാൻ വരുന്ന രേഖാബിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാദാബിനെ കണ്ട് വന്ദനം ചെയ്ത് അവനോട്: “എന്റെ ഹൃദയം നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോട് ചേർന്നിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പരമാർത്ഥമായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ?” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന് യോനാദാബ്: “അതെ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ എങ്കിൽ കൈ തരിക. അവൻ കൈ കൊടുത്തു; അവൻ അവനെ തന്റെ രഥത്തിൽ കയറ്റി.
Then Jehu [continued to travel toward Samaria]. Along the road, he was met by Jonadab, a leader of the Rechab clan. Jehu greeted him and said to him, “Are you as devoted to me [IDM] as I am devoted to you?” Jonadab replied, “Yes, I am.” Jehu said, “If you are, shake hands with me.” So Jonadab shook hands with him, and Jehu helped him to get into his chariot.
16 ൧൬ “നീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ വന്ന് യഹോവയെക്കുറിച്ച് എനിക്കുള്ള ശുഷ്കാന്തി കാണുക” എന്ന് അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവനെ രഥത്തിൽ കയറ്റി; അവർ ഓടിച്ചുപോയി.
Jehu said to him, “Come with me, and you will see that I am very devoted to Yahweh.” So they rode together to Samaria.
17 ൧൭ ശമര്യയിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അവൻ ശമര്യയിൽ ആഹാബ് ഗൃഹത്തിൽ ശേഷിച്ചവരെ എല്ലാം യഹോവ ഏലീയാവിനോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വചനപ്രകാരം സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
When they arrived in Samaria, Jehu killed all of Ahab’s relatives who were still alive. He did not (spare any of them/allow any of them to remain alive). That was what Yahweh told Elijah would happen.
18 ൧൮ പിന്നെ യേഹൂ സകലജനത്തെയും കൂട്ടി അവരോട്: “ആഹാബ് ബാലിനെ അല്പമേ സേവിച്ചുള്ളു; യേഹൂവോ അവനെ അധികം സേവിക്കും.” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു
Then Jehu summoned all the people [of Samaria], and said to them, “King Ahab was devoted to [your god] Baal a little bit, but I will serve him much more.
19 ൧൯ “ആകയാൽ ബാലിന്റെ സകലപ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും സകലദാസന്മാരെയും സകലപുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുത്തുവിൻ; ഒരുത്തനും വരാതിരിക്കരുത്; ഞാൻ ബാലിന് ഒരു മഹായാഗം കഴിക്കുവാൻ പോകുന്നു; വരാത്തവർ ആരും ജീവനോടിരിക്കയില്ല” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു; എന്നാൽ ബാലിന്റെ ആരാധനക്കാരെ നശിപ്പിക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം യേഹൂ ഈ ഉപായം പ്രയോഗിച്ചു.
So now summon all the prophets of Baal, all of Baal’s priests, and all the others who worship Baal. I am going to make a great sacrifice to Baal. I want all of them to be there. Any of them who is not there will be executed.” But Jehu was planning to trick them; he was planning to kill all those who worshiped Baal.
20 ൨൦ “ബാലിന് ഒരു വിശുദ്ധസഭായോഗം വിളംബരം ചെയ്യുവീൻ” എന്ന് യേഹൂ കല്പിച്ചു. അവർ അങ്ങനെ വിളംബരം ചെയ്തു.
Then Jehu commanded, “Announce that we are going to set aside a day to honor Baal.” So they did that.
21 ൨൧ യേഹൂ യിസ്രായേൽ ദേശത്ത് എല്ലായിടത്തും ആളയച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് ബാലിന്റെ സകല ആരാധകരും വന്നു; ഒരുത്തനും വരാതിരുന്നില്ല; അവർ ബാലിന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കൂടി; ബാൽക്ഷേത്രം ഒരു അറ്റം മുതൽ മറ്റേഅറ്റം വരെ തിങ്ങി നിറഞ്ഞു.
Jehu [decided what day they would gather and] sent messages throughout Israel [telling everyone what day to gather on], and on that day, everyone who worshiped Baal came. No one stayed at home. They all went into the huge temple of Baal and filled it from one end to the other.
22 ൨൨ അവൻ വസ്ത്രം സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവനോട്: “ബാലിന്റെ സകല ആരാധനക്കാർക്കും വസ്ത്രം കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് കൊടുക്ക” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു. അവൻ വസ്ത്രം കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് കൊടുത്തു.
Jehu told the priest who took care of the sacred robes to bring them out and give them to the people who worshiped Baal. So the priest did that.
23 ൨൩ പിന്നെ യേഹൂവും രേഖാബിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാദാബും ബാലിന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കടന്ന് ബാലിന്റെ ആരാധനക്കാരോട്: “ബാലിന്റെ ആരാധനക്കാർ അല്ലാതെ യഹോവയുടെ ആരാധനക്കാർ ആരും ഇവിടെ ഇല്ല എന്ന് ഉറപ്പാക്കുവീൻ” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു.
Then Jehu went into the temple of Baal with Jonadab, and he said to the people who were there to worship Baal, “Be sure that only those who worship Baal are here. Be sure that no one who worships Yahweh has come in.”
24 ൨൪ അവർ ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളും ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും കഴിക്കുവാൻ അകത്ത് ചെന്നശേഷം യേഹൂ പുറത്ത് എൺപതുപേരെ നിർത്തി: “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കുന്ന ആളുകളിൽ ഒരുവൻ രക്ഷപെട്ടാൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ ജീവൻ അവന്റെ ജീവന് പകരമായിരിക്കും” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു.
Then he and Jonadab prepared to offer sacrifices and other offerings to Baal that would be completely burned [on the altar that was there in Samaria]. But Jehu had stationed eighty of his men outside the temple, and had said to them, “I want you to kill all the people [who are in the temple]. Anyone who allows one of them to escape will be executed!”
25 ൨൫ ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചു തീർന്നപ്പോൾ യേഹൂ കാവൽക്കാരോടും പടനായകന്മാരോടും: “അകത്ത് കടന്ന് അവരെ കൊല്ലുവിൻ; ഒരുത്തനും പുറത്ത് പോകരുത്” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ അവരെ കൊന്നു; കാവൽക്കാരും പടനായകന്മാരും അവരെ പുറത്ത് എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു; ബാല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നഗരത്തിൽ ചെന്ന്
As soon as Jehu [and Jonadab] had finished killing the animals that would be completely burned to be an offering to Baal, they [went outside and] said to the guards and officers, “Go in and kill all of them! Do not allow any of them to escape!” So the guards and officers went in and killed them all with their swords. Then they dragged their corpses outside the temple. Then they went into the inner room of the temple,
and they carried out the sacred pillar of Baal that was there, and they burned it.
27 ൨൭ അവർ ബാൽസ്തംഭത്തെ തകർത്ത് ബാല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം ഇടിച്ച് അതിനെ വിസർജനസ്ഥലമാക്കിത്തീർത്തു; അത് ഇന്നുവരെ അങ്ങനെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
So they destroyed that pillar that honored Baal, and then they burned down the temple, and made it a public toilet. And it is still a toilet!
That is how Jehu got rid of the worship of Baal in Israel.
29 ൨൯ എങ്കിലും ബേഥേലിലും ദാനിലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പൊൻകാളക്കുട്ടികളെക്കൊണ്ട് യിസ്രായേലിനെ പാപം ചെയ്യുമാറാക്കിയ നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിന്റെ പാപങ്ങൾ യേഹൂ വിട്ടുമാറിയില്ല.
But Jehu did not quit committing the kinds of sins that Jeroboam had committed, sins that led the people of Israel to sin by worshiping the gold [statues of] calves in Bethel and Dan [cities].
30 ൩൦ യഹോവ യേഹൂവിനോട്: “എനിക്ക് ഇഷ്ടമുള്ളത് നീ നന്നായി ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ ഹിതപ്രകാരം ഒക്കെയും ആഹാബ് ഗൃഹത്തോട് ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടും നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജാസനത്തിൽ നാലാം തലമുറവരെ ഇരിക്കും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
Then Yahweh said to Jehu, “You have done what pleased me by getting rid of all of Ahab’s descendants. So I promise you that your son and grandson and great-grandson and great-great-grandson will all be kings of Israel.”
31 ൩൧ എങ്കിലും യേഹൂ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം പൂർണ്ണമനസ്സോടുകൂടി നടക്കുന്നതിന് ജാഗ്രത കാണിച്ചില്ല; യിസ്രായേലിനെക്കൊണ്ട് പാപം ചെയ്യിച്ച യൊരോബെയാമിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ അവൻ വിട്ടുമാറിയതുമില്ല.
But Jehu did not obey all the laws of Yahweh, the God of the Israeli people. He did not stop committing the sins that Jeroboam had committed, sins that led the Israeli people to sin.
32 ൩൨ ആ കാലത്ത് യഹോവ യിസ്രായേൽ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ മുറിച്ചുകളവാൻ തുടങ്ങി; ഹസായേൽ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ അതിരുകളില്ലായിടവും അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു.
At that time, Yahweh began to cause the territory controlled by Israel to become smaller. [The army of] King Hazael [of Syria] conquered much of the Israeli territory.
33 ൩൩ അവൻ യോർദ്ദാന്‍ നദിക്കു കിഴക്ക് ഗാദ്യർ, രൂബേന്യർ, മനശ്ശെയർ എന്നിവരുടെ ദേശമായ ഗിലെയാദ് മുഴുവനും ജയിച്ചടക്കി; അർന്നോൻതോട്ടിനരികെയുള്ള അരോവേർ മുതൽ ഗിലെയാദും ബാശാനും തന്നേ.
He conquered the parts east of the Jordan [River], as far south as Aroer [town] on the Arnon [River]. That included [the] Gilead and Bashan [regions], where the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half of the tribe of Manasseh lived.
34 ൩൪ യേഹൂവിന്റെ മറ്റ് വൃത്താന്തങ്ങളും അവൻ ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും അവന്റെ സകലപരാക്രമപ്രവൃത്തികളും യിസ്രായേൽ രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തിൽ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

35 ൩൫ യേഹൂ തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു; അവനെ ശമര്യയിൽ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു. അവന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോവാഹാസ് അവന് പകരം രാജാവായി.
Jehu died [EUP], and was buried in Samaria. His son Jehoahaz became the king in place of his father.
Jehu had ruled in Samaria as the king of Israel for twenty-eight years.
