1 ശമൂവേൽ 1
1 ൧ എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടിലെ രാമാഥയീം-സോഫീം ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ എല്‍ക്കാനാ എന്നൊരാൾ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവൻ യെരോഹാമിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു; യെരോഹാമിന്റെ പിതാവ് എലീഹൂ. എലീഹൂവിന്റെ പിതാവ് തോഹൂ. എഫ്രയീമ്യനായ സൂഫിന്റെ മകനായിരുന്നു തോഹൂ.
And there was a certain man of Rama-thayim-zophim, of the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah, the son of Yerocham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tochu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.
2 ൨ എല്ക്കാനയ്ക്ക് രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹന്നായും പെനിന്നായും. പെനിന്നായ്ക്ക് മക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹന്നായ്ക്ക് മക്കൾ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 ൩ അവൻ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിക്കുവാനും യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുവാനും തന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്ന് എല്ലാ വർഷവും ശീലോവിലേക്ക് പോകുമായിരുന്നു; ഏലിയുടെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായ യഹോവയുടെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരായിരുന്ന ഹൊഫ്നിയും ഫീനെഹാസും അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
And this man went up out of his city from year to year to prostrate himself and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And at that place were the two sons of 'Eli, Chophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord.
4 ൪ എല്‍ക്കാനാ യാഗം കഴിക്കുമ്പോഴെല്ലാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ പെനിന്നായ്ക്കും അവളുടെ എല്ലാ പുത്രന്മാർക്കും പുത്രിമാർക്കും ഓഹരി കൊടുക്കും.
And when the day was come that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions;
5 ൫ അവൻ ഹന്നായെ സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്നത് കൊണ്ട് ഇരട്ടി ഓഹരി കൊടുക്കും. എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അവൾക്ക് മക്കളെ നല്കിയിരുന്നില്ല.
But unto Hannah he gave a double portion; for Hannah he loved [greatly]; but the Lord had shut up her womb.
6 ൬ യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗർഭം അടച്ചിരുന്നതിനാൽ പ്രതിയോഗിയായ പെനിന്നാ അവളെ വ്യസനിപ്പിക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം പ്രകോപിപ്പിച്ചു.
And her rival also provoked her continually, in order to make her fret; because the Lord had shut up her womb.
7 ൭ ഹന്നാ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന സമയത്തെല്ലാം അവൾ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു. പെനിന്നാ അവളെ പ്രകോപിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് അവൾ കരഞ്ഞ് പട്ടിണി കിടന്നു.
And he did so year by year, as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, so did she provoke her; wherefore she wept, and did not eat.
8 ൮ അവളുടെ ഭർത്താവായ എല്‍ക്കാനാ അവളോട്: “ഹന്നേ, നീ എന്തിന് കരയുന്നു? എന്തിന് പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു? നീ വ്യസനിക്കുന്നത് എന്ത്? ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് പത്ത് പുത്രന്മാരേക്കാൾ നല്ലതല്ലയോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Then said to her Elkanah her husband, Hannah, why wilt thou weep? and why wilt thou not eat? and why should thy heart be grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9 ൯ അവർ ശീലോവിൽവച്ച് തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തശേഷം ഹന്നാ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് പോയി. പുരോഹിതനായ ഏലി യഹോവയുടെ മന്ദിരത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കൽ ഒരു പീഠത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
And Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk; and 'Eli the priest was sitting upon a chair by the door-post of the temple of the Lord.
But she had bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept greatly.
11 ൧൧ അവൾ ഒരു നേർച്ചനേർന്നു; സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, അടിയന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കി അടിയനെ ഓർക്കുകയും, അടിയനെ മറക്കാതെ ഒരു പുത്രനെ നല്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ, അടിയൻ അവനെ അവന്റെ ആയുഷ്ക്കാലം മുഴുവനും യഹോവയ്ക്ക് കൊടുക്കും; അവന്റെ തലമുടി ഒരിക്കലും ക്ഷൗരം ചെയ്യുകയില്ലാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child: then will I give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.
12 ൧൨ ഇങ്ങനെ അവൾ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഏലി അവളുടെ മുഖം സൂക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി.
And it came to pass, as she continued praying long before the Lord, that 'Eli watched her mouth.
13 ൧൩ ഹന്നാ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ട് സംസാരിച്ചതിനാൽ അവളുടെ അധരം അനങ്ങിയത് മാത്രമാണ് ഏലി കണ്ടത്. ശബ്ദം കേൾക്കാനില്ലായിരുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ട് അവൾക്കു ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ഏലിക്കു തോന്നിപ്പോയി.
Now as for Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice could not be heard; wherefore 'Eli regarded her as a drunken woman.
And 'Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from off thee.
15 ൧൫ അതിന് ഹന്നാ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞത്: അങ്ങനെയല്ല, യജമാനനേ; ഞാൻ മനോവ്യസനമുള്ളൊരു സ്ത്രീ; ഞാൻ വീഞ്ഞോ മദ്യമോ കുടിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എന്റെ ഹൃദയം പകരുക ആണ് ചെയ്തത്.
And Hannah answered and said, No, my Lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; but neither wine nor strong drink have I drunk, and I have poured out my soul before the Lord.
16 ൧൬ അടിയനെ ഒരു നീചസ്ത്രീയായി വിചാരിക്കരുതേ; അടിയൻ അത്യധികമായ സങ്കടവും വ്യസനവും കൊണ്ടാകുന്നു സംസാരിച്ചത്.
Esteem not thy handmaid as a worthless woman; for out of the abundance of my grief and vexation have I spoken hitherto.
17 ൧൭ അതിന് ഏലി: “നീ സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോക; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തോടുള്ള നിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ അവിടുന്ന് നിനക്ക് നല്കുമാറാകട്ടെ” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
Then 'Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant thy petition which thou hast asked of him.
18 ൧൮ അടിയന് അങ്ങയുടെ കൃപ ലഭിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് അവൾ പോയി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു; അവളുടെ മുഖം പിന്നെ വാടിയതുമില്ല.
And she said, Let thy handmaid find grace in thy eyes. The woman then went on her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no longer as before.
19 ൧൯ അതിനുശേഷം അവർ അതിരാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ നമസ്കരിച്ചശേഷം രാമയിൽ അവരുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് പോയി. എന്നാൽ എല്‍ക്കാനാ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹന്നയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; യഹോവ അവളെ ഓർത്തു.
And they rose up early in the morning, and prostrated themselves before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house at Ramah; and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.
20 ൨൦ ഒരു വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഹന്നാ ഗർഭംധരിച്ച് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഞാൻ അവനെ യഹോവയോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചുവാങ്ങി എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് അവന് ശമൂവേൽ എന്ന് പേരു നൽകി.
And it came to pass, after the lapse of some time, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she called his name Samuel, saying, Because from the Lord have I asked him.
And the man Elkanah went up, with all his house, to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22 ൨൨ എന്നാൽ ഹന്നാ കൂടെപോയില്ല; അവൾ ഭർത്താവിനോട്: “ശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറട്ടെ; പിന്നെ അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എന്നും താമസിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ഞാൻ അവനെയും കൊണ്ടുപോരാം” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
But Hannah did not go up; for she said unto her husband, So soon as the child shall be weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and abide there for ever.
23 ൨൩ എല്‍ക്കാനാ അവളോട്: “നിനക്ക് ഉചിതമായത് ചെയ്യുക; അവന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ താമസിക്കുക; യഹോവ തന്റെ വചനം നിവർത്തിക്കട്ടെ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറുന്നത് വരെ അവൾ വീട്ടിൽ താമസിച്ചു
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth good in thy eyes; tarry until thou hast weaned him; only may the Lord fulfill his word. So the woman remained behind, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24 ൨൪ ശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറിയശേഷം അവൾ മൂന്ന് വയസ്സ് പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു കാളയും പത്ത് കിലോഗ്രാം മാവും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞുമായി അവനെ ശീലോവിൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു: ബാലനോ ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നു.
And she took him up with her, when she had weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she brought him unto the house of the Lord at Shiloh; although the child was yet young.
And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to 'Eli.
26 ൨൬ അവൾ അവനോട് പറഞ്ഞത്: “യജമാനനേ; യഹോവയോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഇവിടെ സമീപത്ത് നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ത്രീ ഞാൻ ആകുന്നു.
And she said, Pardon, my Lord, as thy soul liveth, my Lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, to pray unto the Lord.
For this lad did I pray; and the Lord hath granted me my petition which I asked of him;
28 ൨൮ അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ അവനെ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവൻ ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവൻ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് സമർപ്പിതനായിരിക്കും”. അവർ അവിടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
Therefore also have I lent him, for my part, to the Lord; all the days that have been assigned to him shall he be lent to the Lord. And he bowed himself there before the Lord.
