1 ശമൂവേൽ 24
1 ൧ ശൌല്‍ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞിട്ട് മടങ്ങിവന്നപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് ഏൻ-ഗെദി മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഉണ്ടെന്ന് അവനു അറിവുകിട്ടി.
And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from pursuing the Philistines, that it was told to him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of 'En-gedi.
2 ൨ അപ്പോൾ ശൌല്‍ എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിൽനിന്നും തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്ന മൂവായിരംപേരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ട് ദാവീദിനെയും അവന്റെ ആളുകളെയും തിരയുവാൻ കാട്ടാടുകളുടെ പാറകളിൽ ചെന്നു.
Then took Saul three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
3 ൩ അവൻ വഴിയരികെയുള്ള ആട്ടിൻ തൊഴുത്തിൽ എത്തി; അവിടെ ഒരു ഗുഹ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ശൌല്‍ വിസർജ്ജനത്തിനായി അതിൽ കടന്നു; എന്നാൽ ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും ഗുഹയുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നു.
And he came to the sheepfolds by the way, and there was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men were sitting in the lower end of the cave.
4 ൪ ദാവീദിന്റെ ആളുകൾ അവനോട്: “ഞാൻ നിന്റെ ശത്രുവിനെ നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കും; നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ അവനോട് ചെയ്യാം എന്ന് യഹോവ നിന്നോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത ദിവസം ഇതാ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് എഴുന്നേറ്റ് ശൌലിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയുടെ അറ്റം പതുക്കെ മുറിച്ചെടുത്തു.
And the men of David said unto him, Behold, this is the day of which the Lord hath said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thy enemy into thy hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good in thy eyes. And David arose, and cut off the corner of the robe which Saul wore, unperceived.
And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off the corner of Saul's [robe].
6 ൬ അവൻ തന്റെ ആളുകളോട്: “യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനായ എന്റെ യജമാനന് എതിരായി ഒരു ദോഷവും ചെയ്യുവാൻ യഹോവ എനിക്ക് ഇടവരുത്തരുതേ; അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said unto his men, Far be it from me for the Lord's sake, that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him; because he is the anointed of the Lord.
7 ൭ ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ആളുകളെ ശാസിച്ച് നിയന്ത്രിച്ചു; ശൌലിനെ ദ്രോഹിക്കുവാൻ അവരെ അനുവദിച്ചില്ല. ശൌല്‍ ഗുഹയിൽനിന്ന് ഇറങ്ങി തന്റെ വഴിക്ക് പോയി.
So David restrained his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
8 ൮ ദാവീദും ഗുഹയിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തിറങ്ങി ശൌലിനോട്: “എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ” എന്നു വിളിച്ചു. ശൌല്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണ് നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
David also arose afterward, and went forth out of the cave, and called after Saul, saying, My Lord, the king! And Saul then looked behind him, and David bowed his face to the earth, and prostrated himself.
9 ൯ ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോട്: “ദാവീദ് നിനക്ക് ദോഷം ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്ന് പറയുന്നവരുടെ വാക്ക് നീ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നത് എന്ത്?
And David said to Saul, Wherefore wilt thou listen to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy injury?
10 ൧൦ യഹോവ ഇന്ന് ഗുഹയിൽവച്ച് നിന്നെ എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്ന് നീ അറിഞ്ഞാലും; നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാൻ ചിലർ പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും ഞാൻ ചെയ്തില്ല; എന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ നേരെ ഒരംശം പോലും ഞാൻ കയ്യെടുക്കുകയില്ല; അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനല്ലോ എന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു.
Behold, this day thy eyes have seen how that the Lord had delivered thee today into my hand in the cave, and some one said that I should kill thee: but my soul felt compassion for thee: and I said, I will not stretch forth my hand against my Lord; because he is the anointed of the Lord.
11 ൧൧ എന്റെ പിതാവേ, എന്റെ കയ്യിലുള്ള നിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയുടെ അറ്റം ഇതാ കണ്ടാലും; നിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയുടെ അറ്റം ഞാൻ മുറിച്ചു. എന്നിട്ടും ഞാൻ നിന്നെ കൊന്നില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ദോഷവും ദ്രോഹവും ഇല്ല; ഞാൻ നിന്നോട് പാപം ചെയ്തിട്ടുമില്ല എന്ന് നീ അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ളുക. പക്ഷേ നീയോ എന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാൻ അവസരം തേടിനടക്കുന്നു.
And now, my father, see, yea, see the corner of thy robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the corner of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and that I have not sinned against thee: yet thou liest in wait for my soul to take it.
12 ൧൨ യഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ; യഹോവ എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി നിന്നോട് പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്യട്ടെ; എന്നാൽ എന്റെ കൈ നിന്റെമേൽ വീഴുകയില്ല.
May the Lord judge between me and thee, and may the Lord avenge me on thee; but my hand shall not be against thee.
13 ൧൩ “ദുഷ്ടത ദുഷ്ടനിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെടുന്നു” എന്നല്ലോ പഴഞ്ചൊല്ല് പറയുന്നത്; എന്നാൽ എന്റെ കൈ നിന്റെമേൽ വീഴുകയില്ല.
As saith the proverb of the ancients, From the wicked proceedeth wickedness; but my hand shall not be against thee.
14 ൧൪ ആരെ തേടിയാകുന്നു യിസ്രായേൽ രാജാവ് പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്? ആരെയാകുന്നു പിന്തുടരുന്നത്? ഒരു ചത്തനായയെ, ഒരു ചെള്ളിനെ അല്ലയോ?
After whom is the king of Israel gone out? after whom art thou pursuing? after a dead dog, after a single flea.
15 ൧൫ അതുകൊണ്ട് യഹോവ ന്യായാധിപനായി എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ. എന്റെ കാര്യം പരിശോധിച്ച്, വാദിച്ച് എന്നെ നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽനിന്ന് വിടുവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമാറാകട്ടെ.
May the Lord therefore be judge, and decide between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and obtain me justice out of thy hand.
16 ൧൬ ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോട് ഈ വാക്കുകൾ സംസാരിച്ച് തീർന്നശേഷം ശൌല്‍: “എന്റെ മകനേ, ദാവീദേ, ഇത് നിന്റെ ശബ്ദമോ” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ച് പൊട്ടിക്കരഞ്ഞു.
And it came to pass, When David had finished speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
17 ൧൭ പിന്നെ അവൻ ദാവീദിനോട്: “നീ എന്നെക്കാൾ നീതിമാൻ ആകുന്നു. കാരണം ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് തിന്മ ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ, അതിനുപകരം നീ എനിക്ക് നന്മ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.
And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast done for me only what is good, whereas I have rewarded thee only with what is evil.
18 ൧൮ യഹോവ എന്നെ നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിട്ടും, നീ എന്നെ കൊല്ലാതെ വിട്ടതിനാൽ, നീ എനിക്ക് നന്മ ചെയ്തതായി ഇന്ന് കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
And thou hast proved this day, that thou hast dealt well with me; forasmuch as when the Lord had surrendered me into thy hand, thou didst not kill me.
19 ൧൯ ശത്രുവിനെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയാൽ ആരെങ്കിലും അവനെ വെറുതെ വിടുമോ? നീ ഇന്ന് എനിക്ക് ചെയ്തതിന് പകരം യഹോവ നിനക്ക് നന്മ ചെയ്യട്ടെ.
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go away on a good road? so may the Lord reward thee with good for what thou hast done unto me this day.
20 ൨൦ എന്നാൽ നീ തീർച്ചയായും രാജാവാകും; യിസ്രായേൽരാജത്വം നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ സ്ഥിരമാകും എന്ന് ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നു.
And now, behold, I know that thou wilt surely become king, and that the kingdom of Israel will stand firmly in thy hand.
21 ൨൧ അതുകൊണ്ട് നീ എനിക്ക് ശേഷം എന്റെ സന്തതിയെ മുഴുവനും നശിപ്പിച്ച്, എന്റെ പേര് പിതൃഭവനത്തിൽ നിന്ന് മായിച്ചു കളയുകയില്ല എന്ന് യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ എന്നോട് സത്യം ചെയ്യണം”.
And now swear unto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.
22 ൨൨ അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോട് സത്യംചെയ്തു. ശൌല്‍ അരമനയിലേയ്ക്ക് പോയി; ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും ദുർഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കും പോയി.
And David swore unto Saul; and Saul went to his house; but David and his men went up into the strong-hold.
