1 യിസ്രായേൽരാജാവായി ദാവീദിന്റെ മകനായ ശലോമോന്റെ സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ.
The proverbs of Solomon [Peaceable, Recompense], the son of David [Beloved], king of Israel [God prevails]:
2 ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും പ്രാപിപ്പാനും വിവേകവചനങ്ങളെ ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും
to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
3 പരിജ്ഞാനം, നീതി, ന്യായം, നേർ എന്നിവെക്കായി പ്രബോധനം ലഭിപ്പാനും
to receive instruction in wisdom, in righteousness, mishpat ·justice·, and equity;
4 അല്പബുദ്ധികൾക്കു സൂക്ഷ്മബുദ്ധിയും ബാലന്നു പരിജ്ഞാനവും വകതിരിവും നല്കുവാനും
to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:
5 ജ്ഞാനി കേട്ടിട്ടു വിദ്യാഭിവൃദ്ധി പ്രാപിപ്പാനും, ബുദ്ധിമാൻ സദുപദേശം സമ്പാദിപ്പാനും
that the wise man may sh'ma ·hear obey·, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:
6 സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങളും അലങ്കാരവചനങ്ങളും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ മൊഴികളും കടങ്കഥകളും മനസ്സിലാക്കുവാനും അവ ഉതകുന്നു.
to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.
7 യഹോവാഭക്തി ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭമാകുന്നു; ഭോഷന്മാരോ ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും നിരസിക്കുന്നു.
The fear of Adonai is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
8 മകനേ, അപ്പന്റെ പ്രബോധനം കേൾക്ക; അമ്മയുടെ ഉപദേശം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കയുമരുതു;
My son, sh'ma ·hear obey· your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:
9 അവ നിന്റെ ശിരസ്സിന്നു അലങ്കാരമാലയും നിന്റെ കഴുത്തിന്നു സരപ്പളിയും ആയിരിക്കും.
for they will be a garland to chen ·grace· your head, and chains around your neck.
10 മകനേ, പാപികൾ നിന്നെ വശീകരിച്ചാൽ വഴിപ്പെട്ടുപോകരുതു.
My son, if people who sin ·intentionally miss the mark goal· entice you, don’t consent.
11 ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരിക; നാം രക്തത്തിന്നായി പതിയിരിക്ക; നിൎദ്ദോഷിയെ കാരണം കൂടാതെ പിടിപ്പാൻ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്ക.
If they say, “Come with us, Let’s lay in wait for blood; let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;
12 പാതാളംപോലെ അവരെ ജീവനോടെയും കുഴിയിൽ ഇറങ്ങുന്നവരെപ്പോലെ അവരെ സൎവ്വാംഗമായും വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളക. (Sheol h7585)
let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol ·Place of the dead·, and whole, like those who go down into the pit (of Abbadon, the unrighteous side of Sheol). (Sheol h7585)
13 നമുക്കു വിലയേറിയ സമ്പത്തൊക്കെയും കിട്ടും; നമ്മുടെ വീടുകളെ കൊള്ളകൊണ്ടു നിറെക്കാം.
We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder.
14 നിനക്കു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ സമാംശം കിട്ടും; നമുക്കു എല്ലാവൎക്കും സഞ്ചി ഒന്നായിരിക്കും; എന്നിങ്ങനെ അവർ പറഞ്ഞാൽ,
You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.”
15 മകനേ, നീ അവരുടെ വഴിക്കു പോകരുതു; നിന്റെ കാൽ അവരുടെ പാതയിൽ വെക്കയുമരുതു.
My son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,
16 അവരുടെ കാൽ ദോഷം ചെയ്‌വാൻ ഓടുന്നു; രക്തം ചൊരിയിപ്പാൻ അവർ ബദ്ധപ്പെടുന്നു.
for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.
17 പക്ഷി കാൺകെ വലവിരിക്കുന്നതു വ്യൎത്ഥമല്ലോ.
For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:
18 അവർ സ്വന്ത രക്തത്തിന്നായി പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; സ്വന്തപ്രാണഹാനിക്കായി ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.
19 ദുരാഗ്രഹികളായ ഏവരുടെയും വഴികൾ അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ; അതു അവരുടെ ജീവനെ എടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.
So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.
20 ജ്ഞാനമായവൾ വീഥിയിൽ ഘോഷിക്കുന്നു; വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തു സ്വരം കേൾപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
21 അവൾ ആരവമുള്ള തെരുക്കളുടെ തലെക്കൽനിന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു; നഗരദ്വാരങ്ങളിലും നഗരത്തിന്നകത്തും പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്നതു:
She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:
22 ബുദ്ധിഹീനരേ, നിങ്ങൾ ബുദ്ധീഹിനതയിൽ രസിക്കയും പരിഹാസികളേ, നിങ്ങൾ പരിഹാസത്തിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കയും ഭോഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങൾ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ വെറുക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു എത്രത്തോളം?
“How long, you simple ones, will you 'ahav ·affectionately love· thoughtless living? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
23 എന്റെ ശാസനെക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞുകൊൾവിൻ; ഞാൻ എന്റെ മനസ്സു നിങ്ങൾക്കു പൊഴിച്ചു തരും; എന്റെ വചനങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളെ അറിയിക്കും.
Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.
24 ഞാൻ വിളിച്ചിട്ടു നിങ്ങൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെയും ഞാൻ കൈ നീട്ടീട്ടു ആരും കൂട്ടാക്കാതെയും
Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;
25 നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ ആലോചന ഒക്കെയും ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും എന്റെ ശാസനയെ ഒട്ടും അനുസരിക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു
but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;
26 ഞാനും നിങ്ങളുടെ അനൎത്ഥദിവസത്തിൽ ചിരിക്കും; നിങ്ങൾ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നതു നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഭവിക്കുമ്പോൾ പരിഹസിക്കും.
I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;
27 നിങ്ങൾ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നതു നിങ്ങൾക്കു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുപോലെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ആപത്തു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുപോലെയും വരുമ്പോൾ, കഷ്ടവും സങ്കടവും നിങ്ങൾക്കു വരുമ്പോൾ തന്നേ.
when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.
28 അപ്പോൾ അവർ എന്നെ വിളിക്കും; ഞാൻ ഉത്തരം പറകയില്ല. എന്നെ ജാഗ്രതയോടെ അന്വേഷിക്കും; കണ്ടെത്തുകയുമില്ല.
Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;
29 അവർ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തെ വെറുത്തല്ലോ; യഹോവാഭക്തിയെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തതുമില്ല.
because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Adonai.
30 അവർ എന്റെ ആലോചന അനുസരിക്കാതെ എന്റെ ശാസന ഒക്കെയും നിരസിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു
They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.
31 അവർ സ്വന്തവഴിയുടെ ഫലം അനുഭവിക്കയും തങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചനകളാൽ തൃപ്തി പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.
32 ബുദ്ധിഹീനരുടെ പിന്മാറ്റം അവരെ കൊല്ലും; ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ നിശ്ചിന്ത അവരെ നശിപ്പിക്കും.
For the backsliding apostasy and willful rejection of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.
33 എന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കുന്നവനോ നിൎഭയം വസിക്കയും ദോഷഭയം കൂടാതെ സ്വൈരമായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
But whoever sh'ma ·hears obeys· me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
