സംഖ്യാപുസ്തകം 20
1 അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ സൎവ്വസഭയും ഒന്നാം മാസം സീൻമരുഭൂമിയിൽ എത്തി, ജനം കാദേശിൽ പാൎത്തു; അവിടെവെച്ചു മിൎയ്യാം മരിച്ചു; അവിടെ അവളെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.
Then came the sons of Israel the whole assembly, into the desert of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt in Kadesh, —and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
2 ജനത്തിന്നു കുടിപ്പാൻ വെള്ളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല; അപ്പോൾ അവർ മോശെക്കും അഹരോന്നും വിരോധമായി കൂട്ടം കൂടി.
And there was no water for the assembly, —so they gathered together against Moses and against Aaron.
3 ജനം മോശെയോടു കലഹിച്ചു: ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാർ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ മരിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങളും മരിച്ചുപോയിരുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു.
And the people contended with Moses, —and spake saying, Would then we had died when our brethren died, before Yahweh!
4 ഞങ്ങളും ഞങ്ങളുടെ മൃഗങ്ങളും ഇവിടെ കിടന്നു ചാകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയുടെ സഭയെ ഈ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു എന്തു?
Wherefore then hast thou brought the convocation of Yahweh into this desert, —to die there, we, and our cattle?
5 ഈ വല്ലാത്ത സ്ഥലത്തു ഞങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുവരുവാൻ നിങ്ങൾ മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചതു എന്തിന്നു? ഇവിടെ വിത്തും അത്തിപ്പഴവും മുന്തിരിപ്പഴവും മാതളപ്പഴവും ഇല്ല; കുടിപ്പാൻ വെള്ളവുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And wherefore did ye cause us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this wretched place?—not a place of seeds, and figs, and vines and pomegranates, even water, is there none to drink.
6 എന്നാറെ മോശെയും അഹരോനും സഭയുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു സമാഗമനകൂടാരത്തിന്റെ വാതിൽക്കൽ ചെന്നു കവിണ്ണുവീണു; യഹോവയുടെ തേജസ്സു അവൎക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷമായി.
And Moses and Aaron went in from the presence of the multitude unto the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces, —and the glory of Yahweh appeared unto them.
7 യഹോവ മോശെയോടു: നിന്റെ വടി എടുത്തു നീയും സഹോദരനായ അഹരോനും സഭയെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവർ കാൺകെ പാറയോടു കല്പിക്ക.
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:
8 എന്നാൽ അതു വെള്ളംതരും; പാറയിൽ നിന്നു അവൎക്കു വെള്ളം പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു ജനത്തിന്നും അവരുടെ കന്നുകാലികൾക്കും കുടിപ്പാൻ കൊടുക്കേണം എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
Take the staff and gather together the assembly, thou, and Aaron thy brother, then shall ye speak unto the cliff before their eyes and it shall give forth its waters, —so shalt thou bring forth unto them water, out of the cliff, and shalt cause the assembly, and their cattle to drink.
9 തന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ മോശെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്നു വടി എടുത്തു.
And Moses took the staff from before Yahweh, —as he commanded him.
10 മോശെയും അഹരോനും പാറയുടെ അടുക്കൽ സഭയെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരോടു: മത്സരികളേ, കേൾപ്പിൻ; ഈ പാറയിൽനിന്നു ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി വെള്ളം പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And Moses and Aaron gathered together the convocation before the cliff, —and he said unto them: Hear I pray you ye rebels! Out of this cliff, must we bring forth for you water?
11 മോശെ കൈ ഉയൎത്തി വടികൊണ്ടു പാറയെ രണ്ടു പ്രാവശ്യം അടിച്ചു; വളരെ വെള്ളം പുറപ്പെട്ടു; ജനവും അവരുടെ കന്നുകാലികളും കുടിച്ചു.
And Moses lifted high his hand and smote the cliff with his staff, twice, —and there came forth water in abundance, and the assembly and their cattle, did drink.
12 പിന്നെ യഹോവ മോശെയോടും അഹരോനോടും: നിങ്ങൾ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ കാണ്കെ എന്നെ ശുദ്ധീകരിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം എന്നെ വിശ്വസിക്കാതിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങൾ ഈ സഭയെ ഞാൻ അവൎക്കു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകയില്ല എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
Then said Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to hallow me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, shall ye not bring in this convocation into the land which I have given unto them.
13 ഇതു യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ യഹോവയോടു കലഹിച്ചതും അവർ അവരിൽ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടതുമായ കലഹജലം.
The same, were the waters of Meribah [that is "Contention"] in that the sons of Israel contended with Yahweh, —and so he hallowed himself among them.
14 അനന്തരം മോശെ കാദേശില്നിന്നു എദോംരാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു പറയിച്ചതു: നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ യിസ്രായേൽ ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നു:
And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh, unto the king of Edom, —Thus, saith thy brother Israel, Thou thyself, knowest all the distress which befell us;
15 ഞങ്ങൾക്കുണ്ടായ കഷ്ടതയൊക്കെയും നീ അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ മിസ്രയീമിൽ പോയി ഏറിയ കാലം പാൎത്തു: മിസ്രയീമ്യർ ഞങ്ങളെയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെയും പീഡിപ്പിച്ചു.
and how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we abode in Egypt, many days, and that the Egyptians ill-treated us, and our fathers;
16 ഞങ്ങൾ യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവൻ ഞങ്ങളുടെ നിലവിളി കേട്ടു ഒരു ദൂതനെ അയച്ചു ഞങ്ങളെ മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു; ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ അതിരിങ്കലുള്ള പട്ടണമായ കാദേശിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
and we made outcry unto Yahweh, and he heard our voice, and sent a messenger, and brought us forth out of Egypt, —lo! then, we, are in Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy boundary,
17 ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാൻ അനുവദിക്കേണമേ. ഞങ്ങൾ വയലിലോ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തിലോ കയറുകയില്ല; കിണറ്റിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കയുമില്ല. ഞങ്ങൾ രാജപാതയില്കൂടി തന്നേ നടക്കും;
Let us, we pray thee, pass through thy land—we will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the waters of a well, —by the king’s road, will we go—we will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left, until we get through thy boundary.
18 നിന്റെ അതിർ കഴിയുംവരെ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ വലത്തോട്ടോ തിരികയുമില്ല. എദോം അവനോടു: നീ എന്റെ നാട്ടില്കൂടി കടക്കരുതു: കടന്നാൽ ഞാൻ വാളുമായി നിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെടും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through my land, —lest with the sword, I come out to meet thee.
19 അതിന്നു യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ അവനോടു: ഞങ്ങൾ പെരുവഴിയില്കൂടി പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം; ഞാനും എന്റെ കന്നുകാലിയും നിന്റെ വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചുപോയാൽ അതിന്റെ വിലതരാം; കാല്നടയായി കടന്നു പോകേണമെന്നല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നും എനിക്കു വേണ്ടാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the sons of Israel said unto him—By the highway, will we go up, and if thy waters, we should drink—I, and my cattle then would I give the price thereof, —only—it is nothing!—with my feet, would I pass through.
20 അതിന്നു അവൻ നീ കടന്നുപോകരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എദോം ബഹുസൈന്യത്തോടും ബലമുള്ള കയ്യോടും കൂടെ അവന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.
And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out to meet him, with a strong people, and with a firm hand.
21 ഇങ്ങനെ എദോം തന്റെ അതിരിൽകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാൻ യിസ്രായേലിനെ സമ്മതിച്ചില്ല. യിസ്രായേൽ അവനെ വിട്ടു ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോയി.
Thus did Edom refuse to give Israel passage through his boundary, —and Israel turned away from him.
22 പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ സൎവ്വസഭയും കാദേശില്നിന്നു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഹോർപൎവ്വതത്തിൽ എത്തി.
Then set they forward from Kadesh, —and the sons of Israel. all the assembly, came in to Mount Hor.
23 എദോംദേശത്തിന്റെ അതിരിങ്കലുള്ള ഹോർപൎവ്വതത്തിൽവെച്ചു യഹോവ മോശെയോടും അഹരോനോടും അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു:
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses and unto Aaron in Mount Hor, —near the boundary of the land of Edom saying:
24 അഹരോൻ തന്റെ ജനത്തോടു ചേരും; കലഹജലത്തിങ്കൽ നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ കല്പന മറുത്തതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്കു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തേക്കു അവൻ കടക്കയില്ല.
Aaron shall be withdrawn unto his kinsfolk, for he shall not enter into the land. which I have given unto the sons of Israel, —because ye spurned my bidding, at the waters of Meribah.
25 അഹരോനെയും അവന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിനെയും കൂട്ടി അവരെ ഹോർപൎവ്വതത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു
Take thou Aaron, and Eleazar his son, —and bring them up Mount Hor;
26 അഹരോന്റെ വസ്ത്രം ഊരി അവന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിനെ ധരിപ്പിക്കേണം; അഹരോൻ അവിടെവെച്ചു മരിച്ചു തന്റെ ജനത്തോടു ചേരും.
and strip thou Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son, —and, Aaron, shall be withdrawn and shall die there.
27 യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ മോശെ ചെയ്തു; സൎവ്വസഭയും കാൺകെ അവർ ഹോർപൎവ്വത്തിൽ കയറി.
And Moses did as Yahweh commanded, —and they went up into, Mount Hor, in sight of all the assembly.
28 മോശെ അഹരോന്റെ വസ്ത്രം ഊരി അവന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിനെ ധരിപ്പിച്ചു; അഹരോൻ അവിടെ പൎവ്വതത്തിന്റെ മുകളിൽവെച്ചു മരിച്ചു; മോശെയും എലെയാസാരും പൎവ്വതത്തിൽനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു.
And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them upon Eleazar his son, and Aaron died there, in the top of the mount, —and Moses and Eleazar came down out of the mount.
29 അഹരോൻ മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു സഭയെല്ലാം അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ യിസ്രായേൽഗൃഹം ഒക്കെയും അഹരോനെക്കുറിച്ചു മുപ്പതു ദിവസം വിലാപിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു
And all the assembly saw that Aaron was dead; and they bewailed Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
