1 തീബെൎയ്യൊസ് കൈസരുടെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ പതിനഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടിൽ പൊന്തിയൊസ് പീലാത്തൊസ് യെഹൂദ്യനാടു വാഴുമ്പോൾ, ഹെരോദാവു ഗലീലയിലും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഫീലിപ്പൊസ് ഇതുൎയ്യത്രഖോനിത്തിദേശങ്ങളിലും ലുസാന്യാസ് അബിലേനയിലും
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 ഇടപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരായും ഹന്നാവും കയ്യഫാവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരായും ഇരിക്കും കാലം സെഖൎയ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹന്നാന്നു മരുഭൂമിയിൽവെച്ചു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായി.
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
3 അവൻ യോൎദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള നാട്ടിൽ ഒക്കെയും വന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിനായുള്ള മാനസാന്തരസ്നാനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.
He went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
4 “മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതു: കൎത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കുവിൻ; അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിൻ.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.
5 എല്ലാതാഴ്‌വരയും നികന്നുവരും; എല്ലാമലയും കുന്നും താഴും; വളഞ്ഞതു ചൊവ്വായും ദുൎഘടമായതു നിരന്ന വഴിയായും തീരും;
Every valley shall be filled in, and every mountain and hill made low. The crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth.
6 സകലജഡവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ കാണും” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ തന്നേ.
And all humanity will see God’s salvation.’”
7 അവനാൽ സ്നാനം ഏല്പാൻ വന്ന പുരുഷാരത്തോടു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞതു: സൎപ്പസന്തതികളേ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ് ഓടിപ്പോകുവാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആർ?
Then John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായിപ്പിൻ. അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങൾക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു ഉള്ളംകൊണ്ടു പറവാൻ തുനിയരുതു; അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ഈ കല്ലുകളിൽ നിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാൻ ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
9 ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ല ഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയിൽ ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.
The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
10 എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു പുരുഷാരം അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
The crowds asked him, “What then should we do?”
11 അതിന്നു അവൻ: രണ്ടു വസ്ത്രമുള്ളവൻ ഇല്ലാത്തവന്നു കൊടുക്കട്ടെ; ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളവനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”
12 ചുങ്കക്കാരും സ്നാനം ഏല്പാൻ വന്നു: ഗുരോ, ഞങ്ങൾ എന്തുചെയ്യേണം എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”
13 നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതിൽ അധികം ഒന്നും പിരിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.
“Collect no more than you are authorized,” he answered.
14 പടജ്ജനവും അവനോടു: ഞങ്ങൾ എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു: ആരെയും ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്യാതെയും ചതിയായി ഒന്നും വാങ്ങാതെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ശമ്പളം മതി എന്നു വെപ്പിൻ എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”
15 ജനം കാത്തുനിന്നു; അവൻ ക്രിസ്തുവോ എന്നു എല്ലാവരും ഹൃദയത്തിൽ യോഹന്നാനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിചാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ
The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.
16 യോഹന്നാൻ എല്ലാവരോടും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതു: ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ എന്നിലും ബലവാനായവൻ വരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറു അഴിപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ യോഗ്യനല്ല; അവൻ നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടും തീകൊണ്ടും സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കും.
John answered all of them: “I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
17 അവന്നു വീശുമുറം കയ്യിൽ ഉണ്ടു; അവൻ കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയിൽ കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിർ കെടാത്ത തീയിൽ ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.
His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
18 മറ്റു പലതും അവൻ പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ജനത്തോടു സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചു.
With these and many other exhortations, John proclaimed the good news to the people.
19 എന്നാൽ ഇടപ്രഭുവായ ഹെരോദാവു സഹോദരന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യ ഹെരോദ്യനിമിത്തവും ഹെരോദാവു ചെയ്ത സകലദോഷങ്ങൾ നിമിത്തവും യോഹന്നാൻ അവനെ ആക്ഷേപിക്കയാൽ
But when he rebuked Herod the tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done,
20 അതെല്ലാം ചെയ്തതു കൂടാതെ അവനെ തടവിൽ ആക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.
21 ജനം എല്ലാം സ്നാനം ഏല്ക്കുകയിൽ യേശുവും സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു പ്രാൎത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോൾ സ്വൎഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു,
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,
22 പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ദേഹരൂപത്തിൽ പ്രാവു എന്നപോലെ അവന്റെമേൽ ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു. നീ എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രൻ; നിന്നിൽ ഞാൻ പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വൎഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.
and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
23 യേശുവിന്നു താൻ പ്രവൃത്തി ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. അവൻ യോസേഫിന്റെ മകൻ എന്നു ജനം വിചാരിച്ചു;
Jesus Himself was about thirty years old when He began His ministry. He was regarded as the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
