ഉല്പത്തി 39

1 എന്നാൽ യോസേഫിനെ മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവനെ അവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യിശ്മായേല്യരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു ഫറവോന്റെ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി അകമ്പടിനായകനായ പോത്തീഫർ എന്ന ഒരു മിസ്രയീമ്യൻ അവനെ വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി.

And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guards, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmaelites, who had brought him down thither.

2 യഹോവ യോസേഫിനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവൻ കൃതാൎത്ഥനായി, മിസ്രയീമ്യനായ യജമാനന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ പാൎത്തു.

And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was thus in the house of his master the Egyptian.

3 യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും അവൻ ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെയും യഹോവ സാധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അവന്റെ യജമാനൻ കണ്ടു.

And when his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord caused all that he did to prosper in his hand:

4 അതുകൊണ്ടു യോസേഫ് അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടനായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്തു; അവൻ അവനെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനാക്കി, തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു.

Joseph found grace in his eyes, and he served him; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

5 അവൻ തന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നും തനിക്കുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും അവനെ വിചാരകനാക്കിയതു മുതൽ യഹോവ യോസേഫിന്റെ നിമിത്തം മിസ്രയീമ്യന്റെ വീട്ടിനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; വീട്ടിലും വയലിലും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിന്മേലും യഹോവയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടായി.

And it came to pass from the time he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for the sake of Joseph; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field.

6 അവൻ തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും യോസേഫിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു; താൻ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഭക്ഷണം ഒഴികെ അവന്റെ കൈവശം ഉള്ള മറ്റു യാതൊന്നും അവൻ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he troubled himself not about aught he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was handsome in form and handsome in appearance.

7 യോസേഫ് കോമളനും മനോഹരരൂപിയും ആയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു യജമാനന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യ യോസേഫിന്മേൽ കണ്ണു പതിച്ചു: എന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

8 അവൻ അതിന്നു സമ്മതിക്കാതെ യജമാനന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യയോടു: ഇതാ, വീട്ടിൽ എന്റെ കൈവശമുള്ള യാതൊന്നും എന്റെ യജമാനൻ അറിയുന്നില്ല; തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, Thy master troubleth himself not about what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath into my hand;

9 ഈ വീട്ടിൽ എന്നെക്കാൾ വലിയവനില്ല; നീ അവന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യയാകയാൽ നിന്നെയല്ലാതെ മറ്റു യാതൊന്നും അവൻ എനിക്കു വിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ ഈ മഹാദോഷം പ്രവൎത്തിച്ചു ദൈവത്തോടു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great evil, and sin against God?

10 അവൾ ദിനം പ്രതിയും യോസേഫിനോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിപ്പാനോ അവളുടെ അരികെ ഇരിപ്പാനോ അവൻ അവളെ അനുസരിച്ചില്ല.

And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, and he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her;

11 ഒരു ദിവസം അവൻ തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി ചെയ്‌വാൻ വീട്ടിന്നകത്തു ചെന്നു; വീട്ടിലുള്ളവർ ആരും അവിടെ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

That it came to pass one particular day, that he went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

12 അവൾ അവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം പിടിച്ചു: എന്നോടു കൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു: എന്നാൽ അവൻ തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം അവളുടെ കയ്യിൽ വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഓടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me; and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and ran out into the street.

13 അവൻ വസ്ത്രം തന്റെ കയ്യിൽ വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോയി എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോൾ,

And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

14 അവൾ വീട്ടിലുള്ളവരെ വിളിച്ചു അവരോടു: കണ്ടോ, നമ്മെ ഹാസ്യമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവൻ ഒരു എബ്രായനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവൻ എന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു; എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചു.

That she called unto the men of her house, and spoke unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in unto us a Hebrew man to have his sport with us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

15 ഞാൻ ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അവൻ തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വിട്ടേച്ചു ഓടി പൊയ്ക്കളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and ran out into the street.

16 യജമാനൻ വീട്ടിൽ വരുവോളം അവൾ ആ വസ്ത്രം തന്റെ പക്കൽ വെച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

And she laid up his garment by her until his lord came home.

17 അവനോടു അവൾ അവ്വണ്ണം തന്നേ സംസാരിച്ചു: നീ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്ന എബ്രായദാസൻ എന്നെ ഹാസ്യമാക്കുവാൻ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു.

And she spoke unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to have his sport with me.

18 ഞാൻ ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവൻ തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വിട്ടേച്ചു പുറത്തേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled forth.

19 നിന്റെ ദാസൻ ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തു എന്നു തന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യ പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു യജമാനൻ കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അവന്നു കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു.

And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke unto him, saying, After this manner hath thy servant done to me; that his wrath was kindled.

20 യോസേഫിന്റെ യജമാനൻ അവനെ പിടിച്ചു രാജാവിന്റെ ബദ്ധന്മാർ കിടക്കുന്ന കാരാഗൃഹത്തിൽ ആക്കി; അങ്ങനെ അവൻ കാരാഗൃഹത്തിൽ കിടന്നു.

And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were imprisoned: and he was there in the prison.

21 എന്നാൽ യഹോവ യോസേഫിനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു, കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണിക്കു അവനോടു ദയ തോന്നത്തക്കവണ്ണം അവന്നു കൃപ നല്കി.

But the Lord was with Joseph, and caused him to find kindness, and gave him favor in the eyes of the superintendent of the prison.

22 കാരാഗൃഹത്തിലെ സകലബദ്ധന്മാരെയും കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണി യോസേഫിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കൊക്കെയും അവൻ വിചാരകനായിരുന്നു.

And the superintendent of the prison committed into Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, was done through him.

23 യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു അവൻ ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സഫലമാക്കുകകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ കൈക്കീഴുള്ള യാതൊന്നും കാരാഗൃഹ പ്രമാണി നോക്കിയില്ല.

The superintendent of the prison looked not after the least that was under his hand, because the Lord was with him; and that which he did, the Lord made to prosper.
