ഉല്പത്തി 35

1 അനന്തരം ദൈവം യാക്കോബിനോടു: നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലിൽ ചെന്നു പാൎക്ക; നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്നു നീ ഓടിപ്പോകുമ്പോൾ നിനക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായ ദൈവത്തിന്നു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

2 അപ്പോൾ യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടും കൂടെയുള്ള എല്ലാവരോടും: നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിലുള്ള അന്യദേവന്മാരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു വസ്ത്രം മാറുവിൻ.

Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are amongst you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.

3 നാം പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോക; എന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു എന്റെ പ്രാൎത്ഥന കേൾക്കയും ഞാൻ പോയ വഴിയിൽ എന്നോടു കൂടെയിരിക്കയും ചെയ്ത ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഞാൻ അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Let’s arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.”

4 അങ്ങനെ അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ പക്കലുള്ള അന്യദേവന്മാരെ ഒക്കെയും കാതുകളിലെ കുണുക്കുകളെയും യാക്കോബിന്റെ പക്കൽ കൊടുത്തു; യാക്കോബ് അവയെ ശെഖേമിന്നരികെയുള്ള കരുവേലകത്തിൻ കീഴിൽ കുഴിച്ചിട്ടു.

They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

5 പിന്നെ അവർ യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവരുടെ ചുറ്റുമിരുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങളുടെ മേൽ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഭീതി വീണതുകൊണ്ടു യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ ആരും പിന്തുടൎന്നില്ല.

They travelled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the sons of Jacob.

6 യാക്കോബും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനമൊക്കെയും കനാൻദേശത്തിലെ ലൂസ് എന്ന ബേഥേലിൽ എത്തി.

So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.

7 അവിടെ അവൻ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു; തന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്നു ഓടിപ്പോകുമ്പോൾ അവന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു ദൈവം പ്രത്യക്ഷനായതുകൊണ്ടു അവൻ ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഏൽ-ബേഥേൽ എന്നു പേർ വിളിച്ചു.

He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

8 റിബെക്കയുടെ ധാത്രിയായ ദെബോരാ മരിച്ചു, അവളെ ബേഥേലിന്നു താഴെ ഒരു കരുവേലകത്തിൻ കീഴിൽ അടക്കി; അതിന്നു അല്ലോൻ-ബാഖൂത്ത് (വിലാപവൃക്ഷം) എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and its name was called Allon Bacuth.

9 യാക്കോബ് പദ്ദൻ-അരാമിൽനിന്നു വന്ന ശേഷം ദൈവം അവന്നു പിന്നെയും പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.

10 ദൈവം അവനോടു: നിന്റെ പേർ യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ലോ; ഇനി നിനക്കു യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ല യിസ്രായേൽ എന്നു തന്നെ പേരാകേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു അവന്നു യിസ്രായേൽ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

God said to him, “Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel.” He named him Israel.

11 ദൈവം പിന്നെയും അവനോടു: ഞാൻ സൎവ്വശക്തിയുള്ള ദൈവം ആകുന്നു; നീ സന്താനപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവനായി പെരുകുക; ഒരു ജാതിയും ജാതികളുടെ കൂട്ടവും നിന്നിൽ നിന്നു ഉത്ഭവിക്കും; രാജാക്കന്മാരും നിന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെടും.

God said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your body.

12 ഞാൻ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നും യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്നും കൊടുത്തദേശം നിനക്കു തരും; നിന്റെ ശേഷം നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ഈ ദേശം കൊടുക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your offspring after you I will give the land.”

13 അവനോടു സംസാരിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു ദൈവം അവനെ വിട്ടു കയറിപ്പോയി.

God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.

14 അവൻ തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചേടത്തു യാക്കോബ് ഒരു കൽത്തൂൺ നിൎത്തി; അതിന്മേൽ ഒരു പാനീയയാഗം ഒഴിച്ചു എണ്ണയും പകൎന്നു.

Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.

15 ദൈവം തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു യാക്കോബ് ബേഥേൽ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel”.

16 അവർ ബേഥേലിൽനിന്നു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു; എഫ്രാത്തയിൽ എത്തുവാൻ അല്പദൂരം മാത്രമുള്ളപ്പോൾ റാഹേൽ പ്രസവിച്ചു; പ്രസവിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവൾക്കു കഠിന വേദനയുണ്ടായി.

They travelled from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labour.

17 അങ്ങനെ പ്രസവത്തിൽ അവൾക്കു കഠിനവേദനയായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ സൂതികൎമ്മിണി അവളോടു: ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ഇതും ഒരു മകനായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

When she was in hard labour, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid, for now you will have another son.”

18 എന്നാൽ അവൾ മരിച്ചുപോയി; ജീവൻ പോകുന്ന സമയം അവൾ അവന്നു ബെനോനീ എന്നു പേർ ഇട്ടു; അവന്റെ അപ്പനോ അവന്നു ബെന്യാമീൻ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.

19 റാഹേൽ മരിച്ചിട്ടു അവളെ ബേത്ത്ലേഹെം എന്ന എഫ്രാത്തിന്നു പോകുന്ന വഴിയിൽ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

Rachel died, and was buried on the way to Ephrath (also called Bethlehem).

20 അവളുടെ കല്ലറയിന്മേൽ യാക്കോബ് ഒരു തൂൺ നിൎത്തി അതു റാഹേലിന്റെ കല്ലറത്തൂൺ എന്ന പേരോടെ ഇന്നുവരെയും നില്ക്കുന്നു.

Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

21 പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേൽ യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു, ഏദെർഗോപുരത്തിന്നു അപ്പുറം കൂടാരം അടിച്ചു.

Israel travelled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.

22 യിസ്രായേൽ ആ ദേശത്തു പാൎത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ രൂബേൻ ചെന്നു തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയായ ബിൽഹയോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേൽ അതുകേട്ടു.

While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

23 യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ പന്ത്രണ്ടു പേരായിരുന്നു. ലേയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ: യാക്കോബിന്റെ ആദ്യജാതൻ രൂബേൻ, ശിമെയോൻ, ലേവി, യെഹൂദാ, യിസ്സാഖാർ, സെബൂലൂൻ.

The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

24 റാഹേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ: യോസേഫും ബെന്യാമീനും.

The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

25 റാഹേലിന്റെ ദാസിയായ ബിൽഹയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ: ദാനും നഫ്താലിയും.

The sons of Bilhah (Rachel’s servant): Dan and Naphtali.

26 ലേയയുടെ ദാസിയായ സില്പയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ ഗാദും ആശേരും. ഇവർ യാക്കോബിന്നു പദ്ദൻ-അരാമിൽവെച്ചു ജനിച്ച പുത്രന്മാർ.

The sons of Zilpah (Leah’s servant): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

27 പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് കിൎയ്യാത്തൎബ്ബാ എന്ന മമ്രേയിൽ തന്റെ അപ്പനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു; അബ്രാഹാമും യിസ്ഹാക്കും പാൎത്തിരുന്ന ഹെബ്രോൻ ഇതു തന്നേ.

Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.

28 യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ആയുസ്സു നൂറ്റെണ്പതു സംവത്സരമായിരുന്നു.

The days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.

29 യിസ്ഹാക്ക് വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂൎണ്ണനുമായി പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടു മരിച്ചു തന്റെ ജനത്തോടു ചേൎന്നു; അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ ഏശാവും യാക്കോബും കൂടി അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.

Isaac gave up the spirit and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.
