ദാനീയേൽ 1
1 യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ മൂന്നാം ആണ്ടിൽ ബാബേൽ രാജാവായ നെബൂഖദ്-നേസർ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു വന്നു അതിനെ നിരോധിച്ചു.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoyakim the king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 കൎത്താവു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ പാത്രങ്ങളിൽ ചിലതിനെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവൻ അവയെ ശിനാർദേശത്തു തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; ആ പാത്രങ്ങളെ അവൻ തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരഗൃഹത്തിൽ വെച്ചു.
And the Lord gave up into his hand Yehoyakim the king of Judah, with part of the vessels of the house of God: and he brought them into the land of Shin'ar into the house of his god, namely, he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
3 അനന്തരം രാജാവു തന്റെ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരിൽ പ്രധാനിയായ അശ്പെനാസിനോടു: യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ രാജസന്തതിയിലും കുലീനന്മാരിലും വെച്ചു
And the king said unto Ashpenas, the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring out of the children of Israel, and of the royal seed, and of the nobles,
4 അംഗഭംഗമില്ലാത്തവരും സുന്ദരന്മാരും സകലജ്ഞാനത്തിലും നിപുണന്മാരും അറിവിൽ സമൎത്ഥന്മാരും വിദ്യാപരിജ്ഞാനികളും രാജധാനിയിൽ പരിചരിപ്പാൻ യോഗ്യന്മാരും ആയ ചില ബാലന്മാരെ വരുത്തുവാനും അവരെ കല്ദയരുടെ വിദ്യയും ഭാഷയും അഭ്യസിപ്പിപ്പാനും കല്പിച്ചു.
[Certain] lads in whom there should be no kind of blemish, but who should be handsome in appearance, and intelligent in all wisdom, and acquainted with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as should have the ability to serve in the king's palace, and that these should be taught the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 രാജാവു അവൎക്കു രാജഭോജനത്തിൽനിന്നും താൻ കുടിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞിൽനിന്നും നിത്യവൃത്തി നിയമിച്ചു; ഇങ്ങനെ അവരെ മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം വളൎത്തീട്ടു അവർ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ നില്ക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.
And the king ordered for them a daily provision for its day of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank, and to educate them three years, so that at the end thereof they should serve before the king.
6 അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ദാനീയേൽ, ഹനന്യാവു, മീശായേൽ, അസൎയ്യാവു എന്നീ യെഹൂദാപുത്രന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
Now there were among these of the children of Judah, Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah.
7 ഷണ്ഡാധിപൻ അവൎക്കു പേരിട്ടു; ദാനീയേലിന്നു അവൻ ബേല്ത്ത്ശസ്സർ എന്നും ഹനന്യവിന്നു ശദ്രക്ക് എന്നും മീശായേലിന്നു മേശക്ക് എന്നും അസൎയ്യാവിന്നു അബേദ്-നെഗോ എന്നും പേരുവിളിച്ചു.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned them names; and he assigned to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Chananyah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to 'Azaryah, of 'Abed-nego.
8 എന്നാൽ രാജാവിന്റെ ഭോജനംകൊണ്ടും അവൻ കുടിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടും തന്നെത്താൻ അശുദ്ധമാക്കുകയില്ല എന്നു ദാനീയേൽ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു, തനിക്കു അശുദ്ധി ഭവിപ്പാൻ ഇടവരുത്തരുതെന്നു ഷണ്ഡാധിപനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the food of the king, nor with the wine which he drank: and therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not need to defile himself.
9 ദൈവം ദാനീയേലിന്നു ഷണ്ഡാധിപന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ദയയും കരുണയും ലഭിപ്പാൻ ഇടവരുത്തി.
And God gave Daniel kindness and mercy before the chief of the eunuchs.
10 ഷണ്ഡാധിപൻ ദാനീയേലിനോടു: നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭക്ഷണവും പാനീയവും നിയമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ഞാൻ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു; അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം നിങ്ങളുടെ സമപ്രായക്കാരായ ബാലന്മാരുടേതിനോടു ഒത്തുനോക്കിയാൽ മെലിഞ്ഞുകാണുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അങ്ങനെയായാൽ നിങ്ങൾ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ എന്റെ തലെക്കു അപകടം വരുത്തും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the chief of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath ordered your food and your drink; for why should he see your face sadder looking than that of the lads who are of your age? and ye would thus endanger my head with the king.
11 ദാനീയേലോ ഷണ്ഡാധിപൻ ദാനീയേലിന്നും ഹനന്യാവിന്നും മീശായേലിന്നും അസൎയ്യാവിന്നും വിചാരകനായി നിയമിച്ചിരുന്ന മെൽസറിനോടു:
Then said Daniel to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had given charge over Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah,
12 അടിയങ്ങളെ പത്തു ദിവസം പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കിയാലും; അവർ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തിന്മാൻ ശാകപദാൎത്ഥവും കുടിപ്പാൻ പച്ചവെള്ളവും തന്നു നോക്കട്ടെ.
Prove, I beseech thee, thy servants, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink;
13 അതിന്റെ ശേഷം ഞങ്ങളുടെ മുഖവും രാജഭോജനം കഴിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്മാരുടെ മുഖവും തമ്മിൽ നീ ഒത്തു നോക്കുക; പിന്നെ കാണുന്നതുപോലെ അടിയങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊൾക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And then let our countenances be looked at before thee, and the countenance of the lads that eat the food of the king: and as thou mayest see [fitting], so deal with thy servants.
14 അവൻ ഈ കാൎയ്യത്തിൽ അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു പത്തു ദിവസം അവരെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചു.
And he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
15 പത്തു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവരുടെ മുഖം രാജഭോജനം കഴിച്ചുവന്ന സകലബാലന്മാരുടേതിലും അഴകുള്ളതും അവർ മാംസപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവരും എന്നു കണ്ടു.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fuller in flesh than [that of] all the lads who ate the food of the king.
16 അങ്ങനെ മെൽസർ അവരുടെ ഭോജനവും അവർ കുടിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വീഞ്ഞും നീക്കി അവൎക്കു ശാകപദാൎത്ഥം കൊടുത്തു.
And the steward took away their [apportioned] food, and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
17 ഈ നാലു ബാലന്മാൎക്കോ ദൈവം സകലവിദ്യയിലും ജ്ഞാനത്തിലും നീപുണതയും സമാൎത്ഥ്യവും കൊടുത്തു; ദാനീയേൽ സകലദൎശനങ്ങളെയും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളെയും സംബന്ധിച്ചു വിവേകിയായിരുന്നു.
But as regardeth all these four lads, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 അവരെ സന്നിധിയിൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുവാൻ രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലം തികഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഷണ്ഡാധിപൻ അവരെ നെബൂഖദ്നേസരിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.
And at the end of the days [after] which the king had said that they should be presented, the chief of the eunuchs presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 രാജാവു അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചാറെ അവരിൽ എല്ലാവരിലും വെച്ചു ദാനീയേൽ, ഹനന്യാവു, മീശായേൽ, അസൎയ്യാവു എന്നിവൎക്കു തുല്യമായി ഒരുത്തനെയും കണ്ടില്ല; അവർ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷെക്കു നിന്നു.
And the king spoke with them; and there was not found among them all any one like Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah: and so they served before the king.
20 രാജാവു അവരോടു ജ്ഞാനവിവേകസംബന്ധമായി ചോദിച്ചതിൽ ഒക്കെയും അവരെ തന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെല്ലാടവുമുള്ള സകലമന്ത്രവാദികളിലും ആഭിചാരകന്മാരിലും പത്തിരട്ടി വിശിഷ്ടന്മാരെന്നു കണ്ടു.
And in every matter of wise understanding, which the king required of them, he found them ten times superior above all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his kingdom.
21 ദാനീയേലോ കോരെശ്‌രാജാവിന്റെ ഒന്നാം ആണ്ടുവരെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു.
And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
