1 ആമോന്റെ മകൻ യോശിയാവ് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായിരുന്നകാലത്ത്, കൂശിയുടെ മകൻ സെഫന്യാവിന് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാട് ലഭിച്ചു. കൂശി ഗെദല്യാവിന്റെ മകനും ഗെദല്യാവ് അമര്യാവിന്റെ മകനും അമര്യാവ് ഹിസ്കിയാവിന്റെ മകനും ആയിരുന്നു.

2 “ഞാൻ ഭൂമുഖത്തുനിന്ന് സകലത്തെയും നശിപ്പിക്കും,” എന്ന് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാട്.

3 “ഞാൻ മനുഷ്യരെയും മൃഗങ്ങളെയും ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യും. ആകാശത്തിലെ പറവകളെയും സമുദ്രത്തിലെ മത്സ്യങ്ങളെയും— ദുഷ്ടരുടെ കാലിടറിക്കുന്ന വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും തൂത്തെറിയും.” “ഞാൻ ഭൂമുഖത്തുനിന്ന് സകലമനുഷ്യരെയും ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ, ഞാൻ, യെഹൂദയ്ക്കുനേരേയും

8 “യഹോവയുടെ യാഗദിവസത്തിൽ ഞാൻ അധികാരങ്ങളെയും രാജാവിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും വൈദേശികവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എല്ലാവരെയും ശിക്ഷിക്കും.

9 ആ ദിവസത്തിൽ ഉമ്മറപ്പടി ചാടിക്കടക്കുന്നവരെയും തങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്മാരുടെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളെ അതിക്രമംകൊണ്ടും വഞ്ചനകൊണ്ടും നിറയ്ക്കുന്നവരെയും ഞാൻ ശിക്ഷിക്കും.”

10 യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: “ആ ദിവസം മീൻകവാടത്തിൽനിന്ന് നിലവിളി ഉയരും; പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ പുതിയഭാഗത്തുനിന്ന് വിലാപവും കുന്നുകളിൽനിന്ന് ഝടഝടനാദവും ഉയരും.

11 മക്തേശ് നിവാസികളേ, വിലപിക്കുക, നിങ്ങളുടെ എല്ലാ കച്ചവടക്കാരും ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യപ്പെടും എല്ലാ വെള്ളിവ്യാപാരികളും നശിച്ചുപോകും.

12 ആ കാലത്ത് ഞാൻ ജെറുശലേമിൽ വിളക്കുകൾകൊളുത്തി അന്വേഷിക്കും. നിർവികാരികളെയും ഉന്മത്തരായി കിടന്നുകൊണ്ട്, ‘യഹോവ ഗുണമോ ദോഷമോ ചെയ്യുകയില്ല’ എന്നു പറയുന്നവരെയും ഞാൻ ശിക്ഷിക്കും.

13 അവരുടെ സമ്പത്ത് കൊള്ളചെയ്യപ്പെടും അവരുടെ വീടുകൾ ശൂന്യമാക്കപ്പെടും. അവർ വീടുപണിയും എന്നാൽ അവർ അവിടെ പാർക്കുകയില്ല; അവർ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടം നട്ടുണ്ടാക്കും എന്നാൽ വീഞ്ഞ് കുടിക്കുകയില്ല.”

14 യഹോവയുടെ മഹാദിവസം സമീപമായിരിക്കുന്നു— സമീപമായി, അതിവേഗം വരുന്നു. യഹോവയുടെ ദിവസത്തിൽ നിലവിളി ഭയങ്കരമായിരിക്കും; യുദ്ധവീരന്റെ അട്ടഹാസവും അവിടെയുണ്ട്.

15 ആ ദിവസം ക്രോധത്തിന്റെ ദിവസം— കഷ്ടത്തിന്റെയും സങ്കടത്തിന്റെയും ദിവസം, ശൂന്യതയുടെയും നാശത്തിന്റെയും ദിവസം, അന്ധകാരത്തിന്റെയും മ്ലാനതയുടെയും ദിവസം, മേഘങ്ങളുടെയും ഇരുട്ടിന്റെയും ദിവസം—

16 കോട്ടയുള്ള നഗരങ്ങൾക്കും ചത്വരങ്ങളിലെ ഗോപുരങ്ങൾക്കും എതിരേ കാഹളത്തിന്റെയും യുദ്ധാരവത്തിന്റെയും ദിവസം.

18 യഹോവയുടെ ക്രോധദിവസത്തിൽ അവരുടെ വെള്ളിയോ സ്വർണമോ അവരെ രക്ഷിക്കാൻ പര്യാപ്തമാകുകയില്ല.” അവിടത്തെ തീക്ഷ്ണാഗ്നിയിൽ സർവലോകവും ദഹിച്ചുപോകും. സകലഭൂവാസികളുടെയുംമേൽ അവിടന്ന് ശീഘ്രസംഹാരം വരുത്തും.
