ഉത്തമഗീതം 8

1 എന്റെ അമ്മ മുലയൂട്ടിവളർത്തിയ ഒരു സഹോദരൻ ആയിരുന്നു നീ എങ്കിൽ! ഞാൻ നിന്നെ വെളിയിൽ കാണുമ്പോൾ, എനിക്കു നിന്നെ ചുംബിക്കാമായിരുന്നു, ആരും എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുമായിരുന്നില്ല.

O that thou [wert] as my brother, that was nourished at the breasts of my mother! [when] I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yes, I should not be despised.

2 ഞാൻ നിന്നെ എന്റെ മാതൃഗൃഹത്തിലേക്ക് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുമായിരുന്നു— എനിക്കു പരിശീലനംതന്നവളുടെ ചാരത്തേക്കുതന്നെ. സുഗന്ധരസംചേർത്ത വീഞ്ഞും മാതളപ്പഴച്ചാറും ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് പാനംചെയ്യാൻ നൽകുമായിരുന്നു.

I would lead thee, [and] bring thee into my mother's house, [who] would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

3 അവന്റെ ഇടതുകരത്തിന്മേൽ എന്റെ ശിരസ്സ് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നു, അവന്റെ വലതുകരം എന്നെ പുണരുന്നു.

His left hand [should be] under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

4 ജെറുശലേംപുത്രിമാരേ, എനിക്കുറപ്പുനൽകുക: അനുയോജ്യസമയം വരുംവരെ പ്രേമം ഉത്തേജിപ്പിക്കുകയോ ഉണർത്തുകയോ അരുത്.

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not, nor awake [my] love, until he please.

5 തന്റെ പ്രിയന്റെമേൽ ചാരി, മരുഭൂമിയിൽനിന്ന് കയറിവരുന്നോരിവളാരാണ്? യുവതി നിന്റെ അമ്മ നിന്നെ ഗർഭംധരിച്ച, അതേ ആപ്പിൾമരച്ചുവട്ടിൽവെച്ചുതന്നെ ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ഉണർത്തി; അവിടെത്തന്നെയാണല്ലോ പ്രസവവേദനയേറ്റ് അവൾ നിനക്കു ജന്മംനൽകിയത്.

Who [is] this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple-tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth [that] bore thee.

6 നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്മേൽ എന്നെ ഒരു മുദ്രയായണിയൂ, നിന്റെ ഭുജത്തിലെ മുദ്രപോലെതന്നെ; കാരണം പ്രേമം മരണംപോലെതന്നെ ശക്തവും അതിന്റെ തീവ്രത ശവക്കുഴിപോലെതന്നെ കഠിനവുമാകുന്നു. ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന അഗ്നിപോലെ അത് എരിയുന്നു, ഉഗ്രമായ അഗ്നിനാളംപോലെതന്നെ. (Sheol h7585)

Set me as a seal upon thy heart, as a seal upon thy arm: for love [is] strong as death; jealousy [is] cruel as the grave: the coals of it [are] coals of fire, [which hath] a most vehement flame. (Sheol h7585)

7 പ്രേമാഗ്നി അണയ്ക്കാൻ ഒരു പ്രളയത്താലും കഴിയില്ല; നദികൾക്കതിനെ ഒഴുക്കിക്കളയുന്നതിനും കഴിയില്ല. ഒരാൾ സ്വഭവനത്തിലെ സർവസമ്പത്തും പ്രേമസാക്ഷാത്കാരത്തിനായി നൽകിയാലും ആ വാഗ്ദാനവും അപഹാസ്യമാകുകയേയുള്ളൂ.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

8 ഞങ്ങൾക്കൊരു കുഞ്ഞുപെങ്ങളുണ്ട്, അവളുടെ സ്തനങ്ങൾ ഇനിയും വളർന്നിട്ടില്ല നമ്മുടെ പെങ്ങൾക്കു വിവാഹാലോചനവരുമ്പോൾ അവൾക്കുവേണ്ടി നമുക്കെന്തുചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയും?

We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?

9 അവൾ ഒരു മതിലാകുന്നെങ്കിൽ, നാം അവൾക്കുമേൽ വെള്ളികൊണ്ടൊരു ഗോപുരം പണിതുയർത്തും അവൾ ഒരു വാതിലാകുന്നെങ്കിൽ, ദേവദാരു പലകകൾകൊണ്ട് അവൾക്കുചുറ്റും സംരക്ഷണംതീർക്കും.

If she [is] a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she [is] a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

10 ഞാൻ ഒരു മതിലാകുന്നു, എന്റെ സ്തനങ്ങൾ ഗോപുരങ്ങൾപോലെയും. അങ്ങനെ ഞാൻ അവന്റെ മിഴികൾക്ക് ഒരുത്സവമായി.

I [am] a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favor.

11 ശലോമോന് ബാൽ-ഹാമോനിൽ ഒരു മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പ് പാട്ടക്കർഷകരെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. അതിന്റെ ആദായവിഹിതമായി ഓരോരുത്തരും ആയിരം വെള്ളിനാണയങ്ങൾ വീതം പാട്ടം കെട്ടേണ്ടതായിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard to keepers; every one for the fruit of it was to bring a thousand [pieces] of silver.

12 എന്നാൽ ഇത് എന്റെ സ്വന്തം മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പ്; ശലോമോനേ, ആയിരം നിന്റേത്, തോട്ടം കാക്കുന്നവർക്ക് ഇരുനൂറും.

My vineyard which [is] mine, [is] before me: thou, O Solomon, [must have] a thousand, and those that keep the fruit of it two hundred.

13 പരിചാരികമാരായ തോഴിമാരോടൊപ്പം ഉദ്യാനങ്ങളിൽ വസിക്കുന്നവളേ, ഞാൻ നിന്റെ സ്വരം കേൾക്കട്ടെ!

Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear [it].

14 എന്റെ പ്രിയാ, നീ ഓടിപ്പോന്നാലും, ഒരു ചെറു കലമാനിനെപ്പോലെ പരിമളപർവതമേടുകളിലെ മാൻകിടാവിനെപ്പോലെതന്നെ.

Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
