1 ബാബേൽ നദികളുടെ തീരത്ത് ഞങ്ങളിരുന്നു സീയോനെ ഓർത്തപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾ കരഞ്ഞുപോയി.

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

2 അവിടെ അലരിവൃക്ഷങ്ങളിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ കിന്നരങ്ങൾ തൂക്കിയിട്ടു,

Upon the willows in the midst thereof we hanged up our harps.

3 കാരണം ഞങ്ങളെ ബന്ദികളാക്കിയവർ ഞങ്ങളോടൊരു ഗാനം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു, “സീയോൻഗീതങ്ങളിലൊന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്കായി ആലപിക്കുക, ആനന്ദഗാനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നുതന്നെ,” ഞങ്ങളുടെ പീഡകർ ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു.

For there they that led us captive asked of us words of song, and our tormentors asked of us mirth: 'Sing us one of the songs of Zion.'

4 ഒരു അന്യദേശത്ത് ആയിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ ഗാനങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ആലപിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a foreign land?

5 ജെറുശലേമേ, നിന്നെ ഞാൻ മറക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ, എന്റെ വലതുകരം അതിന്റെ വൈദഗ്ദ്ധ്യം മറന്നുപോകട്ടെ.

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

6 ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ഓർക്കാതെപോയാൽ, എന്റെ പരമാനന്ദമായ ജെറുശലേമിനെ കരുതാതെപോയാൽ എന്റെ നാവ് മേലണ്ണാക്കിനോട് ഒട്ടിച്ചേരട്ടെ.

Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I remember thee not; if I set not Jerusalem above my chiefest joy.

7 യഹോവേ, ജെറുശലേമിന്റെ പതനദിവസത്തിൽ, ഏദോമ്യർ ചെയ്തത് എന്താണെന്നോർക്കണമേ. “ഇടിച്ചുനിരത്തുക,” അവർ ആക്രോശിച്ചു, “അതിന്റെ അടിത്തറവരെയും തോണ്ടിയെടുക്കുക!”

Remember, O LORD, against the children of Edom the day of Jerusalem; who said: 'Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.'

8 ബാബേൽപുത്രീ, നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടാൻ പോകുന്നവളേ, നീ ഞങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തതിനൊക്കെ പകരം വീട്ടുന്നവർ ധന്യർ.

O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that repayeth thee as thou hast served us.

9 നിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ അപഹരിക്കുന്നവർ ധന്യർ; അവരെ പാറമേൽ ആഞ്ഞടിക്കുന്നവരും!

Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the rock.
