1 ശലോമോന്റെ ആരോഹണഗീതം. യഹോവ വീട് പണിയുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ, നിർമാതാക്കളുടെ അധ്വാനം വ്യർഥം. യഹോവ പട്ടണം കാക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ, കാവൽക്കാർ ഉണർന്നിരിക്കുന്നതും വ്യർഥംതന്നെ.

A SONG OF THE ASCENTS. BY SOLOMON. If YHWH does not build the house, Its builders have labored at it in vain, If YHWH does not watch a city, A watchman has awoken in vain.

2 നിങ്ങൾ അതിരാവിലെ എഴുന്നേൽക്കുന്നതും വൈകി ഉറങ്ങാൻപോകുന്നതും വ്യർഥം, ഉപജീവനാർഥം കഠിനാധ്വാനംചെയ്യുന്നതും വൃഥായത്നം. കാരണം, യഹോവ തനിക്കു പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവർക്ക്, അവർ ഉറങ്ങുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ നൽകുന്നു.

Vain for you who are rising early, Who delay sitting, eating the bread of griefs, So He gives sleep to His beloved one.

3 മക്കൾ യഹോവയിൽനിന്നുള്ള പൈതൃകാവകാശം. ഉദരഫലം അവിടന്നു നൽകുന്ന പ്രതിഫലവുമാണ്.

Behold, sons [are] an inheritance of YHWH, The fruit of the womb [is] a reward.

4 ഒരാൾക്കു തന്റെ യൗവനത്തിൽ പിറക്കുന്ന മക്കൾ ഒരു യോദ്ധാവിന്റെ കൈയിലെ അസ്ത്രങ്ങൾപോലെയാണ്.

As arrows in the hand of a mighty one, So [are] the sons of the young men.

5 അവരെക്കൊണ്ട് തന്റെ ആവനാഴി നിറച്ചിട്ടുള്ള പുരുഷൻ അനുഗൃഹീതൻ. നഗരകവാടത്തിൽവെച്ച് തങ്ങളുടെ ശത്രുക്കളുമായി ഏറ്റുമുട്ടുമ്പോൾ അവർ ലജ്ജിതരാകുകയില്ല.

O the blessedness of the man Who has filled his quiver with them, They are not ashamed, For they speak with enemies in the gate!
