സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ 26

1 വേനൽക്കാലത്തു മഞ്ഞും വിളവെടുപ്പിനു മഴയുംപോലെ, ഭോഷർക്കു ബഹുമതിയും അനുയോജ്യമല്ല.

As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honour [is] not comely for a fool.

2 പാറിപ്പറക്കുന്ന കുരികിലും ശരവേഗത്തിൽ പറക്കുന്ന മീവൽപ്പക്ഷിയുംപോലെ, കാരണംകൂടാതെയുള്ള ശാപം ലക്ഷ്യസ്ഥാനത്തെത്തുന്നില്ല.

As a bird by wandering, as a swallow by flying, So reviling without cause doth not come.

3 കുതിരയ്ക്കൊരു ചാട്ടവാർ, കഴുതയ്ക്കൊരു കടിഞ്ഞാൺ, ഭോഷർക്കു മുതുകിലൊരു വടി!

A whip is for a horse, a bridle for an ass, And a rod for the back of fools.

4 ഭോഷരുടെ മടയത്തരത്തിന് അനുസൃതമായി മറുപടിനൽകരുത്, അങ്ങനെയായാൽ നീയും അവരെപ്പോലെ ഭോഷരായിത്തീരും.

Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou be like to him — even thou.

5 ഭോഷർക്കു തങ്ങൾ ജ്ഞാനി എന്നു സ്വയം തോന്നാതിരിക്കാൻ, അവരുടെ ഭോഷത്തരത്തിന് അനുസൃതമായ മറുപടിനൽകുക.

Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.

6 ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ കൈവശം സന്ദേശം കൊടുത്തയയ്ക്കുന്നത് സ്വന്തം പാദങ്ങൾ വെട്ടിക്കളയുകയോ വിഷം കുടിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെയാണ്.

He is cutting off feet, he is drinking injury, Who is sending things by the hand of a fool.

7 മുടന്തനായ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഉപയോഗശൂന്യമായ കാൽപോലെയാണ് ഭോഷരുടെ വായിൽനിന്നുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങൾ.

Weak have been the two legs of the lame, And a parable in the mouth of fools.

8 കവിണയിൽ കല്ലു തൊടുക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ് ഭോഷനു ബഹുമതി നൽകുന്നത്.

As one who is binding a stone in a sling, So [is] he who is giving honour to a fool.

9 മദ്യപാനിയുടെ കൈയിൽത്തറച്ച മുള്ളുപോലെയാണ് ഭോഷരുടെ വായിൽനിന്നുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങൾ.

A thorn hath gone up into the hand of a drunkard, And a parable in the mouth of fools.

10 കണ്ണിൽക്കാണുന്നവരെയൊക്കെ മുറിവേൽപ്പിക്കുന്ന വില്ലാളിയെപ്പോലെയാണ് ഭോഷരെയോ വഴിപോക്കരെയോ കൂലിക്കെടുക്കുന്നയാൾ.

Great [is] the Former of all, And He is rewarding a fool, And is rewarding transgressors.

11 നായ അതിന്റെ ഛർദിയിലേക്കു തിരിയുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ, ഭോഷർ തങ്ങളുടെ മടയത്തരം ആവർത്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും.

As a dog hath returned to its vomit, A fool is repeating his folly.

12 സ്വന്തം വീക്ഷണത്തിൽ ജ്ഞാനിയെന്ന് അഭിമാനിക്കുന്ന ഒരാളെ നിങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നോ? ഭോഷർക്ക് അയാളെക്കാൾ ആശയ്ക്കുവകയുണ്ട്.

Thou hast seen a man wise in his own eyes, More hope of a fool than of him!

13 അലസർ ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നു, “വഴിയിൽ ഒരു സിംഹമുണ്ട്! ഭീകരനായ ഒരു സിംഹം തെരുവിൽ ചുറ്റിത്തിരിയുന്നുണ്ട്!”

The slothful hath said, 'A lion [is] in the way, A lion [is] in the broad places.'

14 ഒരു കതക് അതിന്റെ വിജാഗിരിയിൽ തിരിയുന്നതുപോലെ, അലസർ തങ്ങളുടെ കിടക്കയിൽ തിരിഞ്ഞുമറിയുന്നു.

The door turneth round on its hinge, And the slothful on his bed.

15 അലസർ ഭക്ഷണപാത്രത്തിൽ കൈ പൂഴ്ത്തുന്നു; അവർ അതു തിരികെ തന്റെ വായിലേക്ക് അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുപോലും മടിയാണ്.

The slothful hath hid his hand in a dish, He is weary of bringing it back to his mouth.

16 വിവേകപൂർവം ഉത്തരംനൽകുന്ന ഏഴുപേരെക്കാൾ, താൻ കേമനാണെന്ന് അലസർ മിഥ്യാഭിമാനംകൊള്ളുന്നു.

Wiser [is] the slothful in his own eyes, Than seven [men] returning a reason.

17 താനുമായി യാതൊരു ബന്ധവുമില്ലാത്ത കലഹത്തിലേക്കു പാഞ്ഞടുക്കുന്നവർ, വഴിയേ പോകുന്ന നായുടെ ചെവിക്കു പിടിക്കുന്നവരെപ്പോലെയാണ്.

Laying hold on the ears of a dog, [Is] a passer-by making himself wrath for strife not his own.

18 അയൽവാസിയെ ദ്രോഹിച്ചിട്ട്, “അതു നേരമ്പോക്കിനായിരുന്നു!” എന്നു പറയുന്നവർ;

As [one] pretending to be feeble, Who is casting sparks, arrows, and death,

19 മാരകമായ തീജ്വാല ചുഴറ്റിയെറിയുന്ന ഭ്രാന്തനുസമം.

So hath a man deceived his neighbour, And hath said, 'Am not I playing?'

20 വിറകില്ലായെങ്കിൽ തീ കെട്ടുപോകും; പരദൂഷണം ഇല്ലാതെയായാൽ കലഹവും കെട്ടടങ്ങും.

Without wood is fire going out, And without a tale-bearer, contention ceaseth,

21 കരി ജ്വലനത്തിനും വിറക് തീക്കും എന്നതുപോലെ, കലഹത്തെ പ്രണയിക്കുന്നവർ സംഘട്ടനത്തെ ആളിക്കത്തിക്കുന്നു.

Coal to burning coals, and wood to fire, And a man of contentions to kindle strife.

22 ഏഷണി പറയുന്നവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ സ്വാദുഭോജനംപോലെയാകുന്നു; അതു ശരീരത്തിന്റെ അന്തർഭാഗത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുന്നു.

The words of a tale-bearer [are] as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down [to] the inner parts of the heart.

23 ദുഷ്ടമനസ്സുകളുടെ തീവ്രവികാരം മന്ത്രിക്കുന്ന ചുണ്ടുകൾ മൺപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ പുറത്തു വെള്ളി പൂശിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ്.

Silver of dross spread over potsherd, [Are] burning lips and an evil heart.

24 ശത്രുക്കൾ അവരുടെ അധരംകൊണ്ടു കപടവേഷം ധരിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ അവരുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ വക്രത നിറച്ചുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

By his lips doth a hater dissemble, And in his heart he placeth deceit,

25 അവരുടെ സംഭാഷണം അതിമനോഹരമായിരുന്നാലും അവരെ വിശ്വസിക്കരുത്, ഏഴു ഹീനകൃത്യങ്ങൾകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

When his voice is gracious trust not in him, For seven abominations [are] in his heart.

26 അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടത വഞ്ചനാപരമായി മറച്ചുവെച്ചിരുന്നാലും, അവരുടെ നീചകൃത്യങ്ങൾ പൊതുസഭയിൽ വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരും.

Hatred is covered by deceit, Revealed is its wickedness in an assembly.

27 ഒരാൾ കുഴിക്കുന്ന കുഴിയിൽ അയാൾതന്നെ വീഴും; താൻ ഉരുട്ടിവിടുന്ന കല്ല് തന്റെ നേർക്കുതന്നെ തിരിഞ്ഞുരുണ്ടുവന്നു പതിക്കും.

Whoso is digging a pit falleth into it, And the roller of a stone, to him it turneth.

28 വ്യാജംപറയുന്ന നാവ് അതിനിരയായവരെ വെറുക്കുന്നു, മുഖസ്തുതി പറയുന്ന നാവ് നാശം വിതയ്ക്കുന്നു.

A lying tongue hateth its bruised ones, And a flattering mouth worketh an overthrow!
