സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ 25

1 യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ ഹിസ്കിയാവിന്റെ ആളുകൾ സമാഹരിച്ച ശലോമോന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങളാണിവ:

These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

2 വസ്തുതകൾ നിഗൂഢതയിൽ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക എന്നതു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മഹത്ത്വം; വസ്തുതകൾ അന്വേഷിച്ചു കണ്ടെത്തുക എന്നതു രാജാവിന്റെ മഹത്ത്വം.

[It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings [is] to search out a matter.

3 ആകാശത്തിന്റെ ഉന്നതിയും ഭൂമിയുടെ അഗാധതയും മനസ്സിലാക്കുക സാധ്യമല്ല, അതുപോലെ രാജാവിന്റെ മനസ്സ് അന്വേഷണാതീതമാണ്.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.

4 വെള്ളിയിൽനിന്ന് കീടം നീക്കംചെയ്യുക, അപ്പോൾ വെള്ളിപ്പണിക്കാർക്കു പാത്രം നിർമിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നു;

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5 രാജസദസ്സിൽനിന്ന് നീചരായ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെ നീക്കുക, അപ്പോൾ രാജസിംഹാസനം നീതിയിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമാകും.

Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ പുകഴ്ത്തരുത്, അവിടത്തെ ഉന്നതർക്കിടയിൽ ഒരു സ്ഥാനം അവകാശപ്പെടരുത്;

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men: ]

7 പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർക്കിടയിൽ അവഹേളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ, “ഇവിടെ കയറിവരിക,” എന്നു രാജാവ് നിങ്ങളോടു കൽപ്പിക്കുന്നതാണ് നല്ലത്. നിങ്ങൾ ചില വസ്തുതകൾ കണ്ടു എന്ന കാരണത്താൽ

For better [it is] that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

8 തിടുക്കത്തിൽ കോടതിവ്യവഹാരത്തിനു കൊണ്ടുവരരുത്, നിങ്ങളുടെ അയൽവാസി നിങ്ങളെ അപമാനപ്പെടുത്തിയാൽ അവസാനം നിങ്ങൾ എന്തുചെയ്യും?

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

9 അയൽവാസിയുമായി നിങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള തർക്കം ഉന്നയിക്കുന്നതിനിടയിൽ, മറ്റൊരാളുടെ രഹസ്യം ഒറ്റുകൊടുക്കരുത്,

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour [himself; ] and discover not a secret to another:

10 അങ്ങനെയായാൽ അതു കേൾക്കുന്നയാൾ നിങ്ങളെ അപഹസിക്കും; അവർക്കു നിങ്ങളിലുണ്ടായ അവമതിപ്പ് അവസാനിക്കുകയുമില്ല.

Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

11 തക്കസമയത്തു നൽകുന്ന ഒരു വാക്ക് വെള്ളിത്താലത്തിലെ കനകമയമായ ആപ്പിൾപോലെയാണ്.

A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12 ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്ന കാതിനു ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന സ്വർണക്കമ്മലുകൾപോലെയും തങ്കത്തിൻ ആഭരണം പോലെയുമാണ്.

[As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13 വിശ്വസ്ത സന്ദേശവാഹകർ തങ്ങളെ നിയോഗിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തെ മഞ്ഞിന്റെ കുളിർമപോലെയാണ്; അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉന്മേഷഭരിതമാക്കുന്നു.

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14 താൻ നൽകാത്ത ദാനത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് വമ്പുപറയുന്നവർ മഴനൽകാത്ത മേഘവും കാറ്റുംപോലെയാണ്.

Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.

15 ദീർഘക്ഷമയാൽ ഭരണാധികാരിയെപ്പോലും അനുനയിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയും, മൃദുഭാഷണം അസ്ഥിയെപ്പോലും ഭേദിക്കും.

By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16 നിങ്ങൾക്കു തേൻ ലഭിച്ചാൽ ആവശ്യത്തിനുമാത്രം ഭക്ഷിക്കുക— അമിതമായാൽ അത് ഛർദിച്ചുപോകും.

Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

17 വല്ലപ്പോഴുംമാത്രം നിങ്ങളുടെ അയൽവീട്ടിൽ പോകുക— കൂടെക്കൂടെയുള്ള സന്ദർശനം, അവർക്കു നിങ്ങളോടു വെറുപ്പുതോന്നിപ്പിക്കും.

Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.

18 തന്റെ അയൽവാസിക്കെതിരേ കള്ളസാക്ഷി പറയുന്നവർ ഗദയോ വാളോ കൂരമ്പോപോലെയാണ്.

A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19 ആപത്തുനാളുകളിൽ അവിശ്വസ്തരെ ആശ്രയിക്കരുത് പൊട്ടിയ പല്ലോ മുടന്തുള്ള കാലോ പോലെയാണത്.

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

20 വിഷാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവർക്കുവേണ്ടി ആഹ്ലാദഗാനം ആലപിക്കുന്നത്, ശൈത്യകാലത്ത് വസ്ത്രം അപഹരിക്കുന്നവരെപ്പോലെയോ മുറിവിൽ വിന്നാഗിരി ഒഴിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയോ ആണ്.

[As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so [is] he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21 നിന്റെ ശത്രുവിനു വിശക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ അയാൾക്കു ഭക്ഷിക്കാൻ കൊടുക്കുക; ദാഹിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ കുടിക്കുന്നതിനു വെള്ളം നൽകുക.

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നതിലൂടെ, നിങ്ങൾ ശത്രുവിന്റെ ശിരസ്സിൽ കൽക്കരിക്കനൽ കൂട്ടിവെക്കുകയാണ്, അങ്ങനെയായാൽ യഹോവ നിങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രതിഫലംനൽകും.

For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

23 വടക്കൻകാറ്റ് അപ്രതീക്ഷിത മഴ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതുപോലെ കാപട്യമുള്ള നാവ് രോഷാകുലമായ നോട്ടം കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു.

The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

24 കലഹക്കാരിയായ ഭാര്യയോടൊത്ത് വീടിനുള്ളിൽ കഴിയുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ, മേൽപ്പുരയുടെ ഒരു കോണിൽ താമസിക്കുന്നതു നല്ലത്.

[It is] better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

25 ക്ഷീണിതമനസ്സിന് ശീതജലം ലഭിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ് വിദൂരദേശത്തുനിന്നു സദ്വാർത്ത വരുന്നത്.

[As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.

26 ദുഷ്ടർക്കു വിധേയപ്പെടുന്ന നീതിനിഷ്ഠർ ചെളിനിറഞ്ഞ നീരുറവപോലെയോ മലീമസമായ കിണർപോലെയോ ആകുന്നു.

A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

27 അമിതമായി തേൻ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് നല്ലതല്ല, അതുപോലെ സ്വന്തം ബഹുമാനംമാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതും മാന്യമല്ല.

[It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.

28 ആത്മനിയന്ത്രണമില്ലാത്ത മനുഷ്യർ മതിലുകൾ തകർന്നുകിടക്കുന്ന പട്ടണംപോലെയാണ്.

He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
