സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ 20
1 വീഞ്ഞു പരിഹാസിയും മദ്യം കലഹക്കാരനും ആകുന്നു; അവമൂലം വഴിതെറ്റുന്നവർ ജ്ഞാനിയല്ല.
Wine is, a scoffer, and strong drink, a brawler, every one therefore who erreth therein, is unwise.
2 രാജക്രോധം ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന സിംഹഗർജനംപോലെയാണ്; അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പ്രകോപിപ്പിക്കുന്നവർ സ്വജീവൻ അപകടത്തിൽപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
The growl as of a young lion, is the dread inspired by a king, he that provoketh him, endangereth his own life.
3 കലഹത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നത് ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുടെ ബഹുമതിയാണ്, എന്നാൽ ഭോഷരെല്ലാം കലഹത്തിനു തുനിയുന്നു.
Honour, hath the man who sitteth away from strife, but, any fool, may break through.
4 അലസർ കാലോചിതമായി നിലം ഉഴുതുമറിക്കുന്നില്ല; തന്മൂലം കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്ത് വിളവെടുപ്പിനായി പരതും; ഒന്നുംതന്നെ ലഭിക്കുകയില്ല.
By reason of the autumn, a sluggard will not plough, therefore shall he beg in harvest, and there be nothing.
5 ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിലെ ആലോചനകൾ അഗാധമായ ജലപ്പരപ്പാണ്, എന്നാൽ വിവേകമുള്ള മനുഷ്യർ അവ കോരിയെടുക്കുന്നു.
Deep water, is counsel in a man’s heart, but, a man of understanding, will draw it out.
6 തങ്ങൾ വിശ്വസ്തസുഹൃത്തുക്കളാണെന്നു പലരും അവകാശവാദം ഉന്നയിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ വിശ്വസ്തരായ വ്യക്തികളെ കണ്ടെത്താൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും?
A kind man one may call, a great man, —but, a faithful man, who can find?
7 നീതിനിഷ്ഠർ സത്യസന്ധരായി ജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്നു; അവരെ അനുകരിക്കുന്ന അവരുടെ പിൻതലമുറയും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും.
As for a righteous man, walking in his integrity, how happy are his children after him!
8 ന്യായാസനത്തിൽ രാജാവ് ഉപവിഷ്ടനാകുമ്പോൾ, തന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടികൊണ്ട് എല്ലാ തിന്മകളും പാറ്റിക്കൊഴിക്കുന്നു.
A king sitting on the throne of judgment, scattereth, with his eyes, all wrong.
9 “ഞാൻ എന്റെ ഹൃദയം സംശുദ്ധമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാൻ നിരപരാധി, പാപംവിട്ടൊഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്ന് ആർക്ക് അവകാശപ്പെടാൻ കഴിയും?
Who can say, I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from my sin?
10 വ്യാജ അളവും വ്യാജ തൂക്കവും— ഇവ രണ്ടും യഹോവയ്ക്ക് അറപ്പാകുന്നു.
Divers weights, and divers measures, an abomination to Yahweh, are they, both.
11 തങ്ങളുടെ സ്വഭാവം സംശുദ്ധവും യുക്തവും ആണോ എന്ന്, ചെറിയ കുട്ടികൾപോലും അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾമൂലം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
Even, by his doings, doth a youth make himself known, whether, pure and upright, be his work.
12 കേൾക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ചെവികളും കാണുന്നതിനുള്ള കണ്ണുകളും— ഇവ രണ്ടും യഹോവയുടെ നിർമിതി.
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Yahweh hath made them, both.
13 ഉറക്കത്തെ പ്രണയിക്കരുത്, അങ്ങനെ നീ പാപ്പരായിത്തീരാതിരിക്കട്ടെ; ജാഗരൂകരായിരിക്കുക, അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ നിനക്കു മിച്ചംവെക്കാനും ഭക്ഷണമുണ്ടാകും.
Do not love sleep, lest thou come to poverty, open thine eyes, be satisfied with bread.
14 “ഇതു നല്ലതല്ല, ഇതു നല്ലതല്ല!” എന്നു വാങ്ങുന്നവർ വിലപേശുന്നു— പിന്നെ വിലപേശിവാങ്ങിയതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് വീമ്പടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പോകുന്നു.
Bad! bad! saith the buyer, but, going his way, then, he boasteth.
15 സ്വർണമുണ്ട്, മാണിക്യങ്ങളും അനവധി, എന്നാൽ പരിജ്ഞാനം ഉരുവിടുന്ന അധരങ്ങൾ അത്യപൂർവമായ രത്നം.
There are gold, and an abundance of corals, but, precious jewels, are the lips of knowledge.
16 അപരിചിതർക്കുവേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിൽക്കുന്നവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ളുക; അന്യർക്കുവേണ്ടിയാണ് കൈയൊപ്പുചാർത്തുന്നതെങ്കിൽ വസ്ത്രംതന്നെ പണയമായി വാങ്ങിക്കൊള്ളുക.
Take his garment who is pledge for a stranger, —then, for a woman unknown, accept him as surety.
17 വഞ്ചിച്ചു നേടിയ ആഹാരം സ്വാദുള്ളത്, എന്നാൽ അവസാനം അവരുടെ വായിൽ അതു ചരലായിത്തീരും.
Sweet to a man, may be the bread of falsehood, but, afterward, shall his mouth be filled with gravel.
18 ആലോചന സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് പദ്ധതികൾ യാഥാർഥ്യമാകുന്നു; മാർഗദർശനം തേടാതെ യുദ്ധത്തിനു പുറപ്പെടരുത്.
Plans—by counsel, shalt thou establish, and, with concerted measures, make thou war.
19 കിംവദന്തി ആത്മവിശ്വാസത്തെ ഒറ്റിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നു, ആയതിനാൽ വാചാലരാകുന്നവരോടൊപ്പം ചുറ്റിത്തിരിയരുത്.
A revealer of secrets, is one who goeth about talebearing, therefore, with him who openeth his lips, shalt thou not have fellowship.
20 നീ നിന്റെ പിതാവിനെയോ മാതാവിനെയോ ശപിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ, നിന്റെ വിളക്കു കൂരിരുട്ടിൽ ഊതിയണയ്ക്കപ്പെടും.
Whoso revileth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in deep darkness.
21 തിടുക്കത്തിൽ കൈവരുന്ന പൈതൃകസ്വത്ത് അന്ത്യത്തിൽ അനുഗ്രഹമാകുകയില്ല.
An inheritance hastily gotten at the beginning, the latter end thereof, shall not bring blessing.
22 “ഈ അനീതിക്ക് ഞാൻ പകരംവീട്ടും!” എന്നു പറയരുത്. യഹോവയ്ക്കായി കാത്തിരിക്കുക, അവിടന്നു നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രതികാരംചെയ്യും.
Do not say, I will requite wrong! Wait thou for Yahweh that he may save thee.
23 വ്യാജ അളവ് യഹോവയ്ക്ക് അറപ്പാകുന്നു, വഞ്ചനാപരമായ അളവുകോൽ അവിടത്തേക്കു പ്രസാദകരമല്ല.
An abomination to Yahweh, are divers weights, and, deceptive balances, are not good.
24 മനുഷ്യരുടെ ചുവടുകൾ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്നത് യഹോവയാണ്. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ ഒരാൾക്ക് എങ്ങനെ സ്വന്തവഴികൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ സാധിക്കും?
From Yahweh, are a man’s steps, a son of earth, then—how can he discern his way?
25 ധൃതഗതിയിൽ എന്തെങ്കിലും ദൈവത്തിനു നേരുന്നതും പിന്നീട് തന്റെ നേർച്ചകളെപ്പറ്റി പുനർവിചിന്തനം ചെയ്യുന്നതും ഒരു കെണിയാണ്.
It is a snare to a man, that he should rashly cry Holy! and, after making vows, to reflect!
26 ജ്ഞാനിയായ രാജാവ് ദുഷ്ടരെ പാറ്റിക്കൊഴിക്കുന്നു; അവിടന്ന് അവരുടെമേൽ മെതിവണ്ടി കയറ്റുന്നു.
A wise king, winnoweth out the lawless, when he hath turned over them the wheel.
27 യഹോവയുടെ വിളക്ക് മനുഷ്യാത്മാക്കളെ ആരാഞ്ഞറിയുന്നു അത് അന്തരിന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളെ പരിശോധിക്കുന്നു.
The lamp of Yahweh, is the spirit of a son of earth, searching all the chambers of the inner man.
28 സ്നേഹവും വിശ്വസ്തതയും രാജാവിനെ സുരക്ഷിതനായി സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു; സ്നേഹത്തിലൂടെ തന്റെ സിംഹാസനം സുരക്ഷിതമാക്കുന്നു.
Lovingkindness and faithfulness, will guard a king, —therefore should he support, with lovingkindness, his throne.
29 ശക്തിയാണ് യുവാക്കന്മാരുടെ മഹത്ത്വം, നരച്ചതല വൃദ്ധർക്കു ഗാംഭീര്യം.
The beauty of young men, is their strength, and, the ornament of old men, a hoary head.
30 ക്ഷതവും മുറിവും തിന്മയെ ഉരച്ചുകഴുകുന്നു, പ്രഹരം അന്തരിന്ദ്രിയത്തെ ശുദ്ധമാക്കുന്നു.
Blows that cut in, cleanse away wickedness, and, smitings, [enter] the chambers of the inner man.
