സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങൾ 18
1 കൂട്ടംവിട്ടുനടക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യൻ സ്വാർഥതാത്പര്യങ്ങൾ പിൻതുടരുകയും നല്ല തീരുമാനങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം വെല്ലുവിളിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
He that hath a mind to depart from a friend seeketh occasions: he shall ever be subject to reproach.
2 ഭോഷർ വിവേകത്തിൽ ആഹ്ലാദം കണ്ടെത്തുന്നില്ല; എന്നാൽ അവർ സ്വന്തം അഭിപ്രായം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലാണ് ആനന്ദിക്കുന്നത്.
A fool receiveth not the words of prudence: unless thou say those things which are in his heart.
3 ദുഷ്ടരോടൊപ്പം വിദ്വേഷം തലപൊക്കുന്നു, അപമാനത്തോടൊപ്പം അപകീർത്തിയും വന്നുചേരുന്നു.
The wicked man when he is come into the depth of sins, contemneth: but ignominy and reproach follow him.
4 ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ അഗാധമായ ജലപ്പരപ്പുപോലെയാകാം; എന്നാൽ ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ഉറവ കളകളാരവത്തോടെ ഒഴുകുന്ന അരുവിപോലെയും.
Words from the mouth of a men are as deep water: and the fountain of wisdom as an overflowing stream.
5 ദുഷ്ടരോട് പക്ഷഭേദം കാണിക്കുന്നതും നിരപരാധിക്കു നീതി നിഷേധിക്കുന്നതും ഉചിതമല്ല.
It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to decline from the truth of judgment.
6 ഭോഷത്തമുള്ളവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ കലഹം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നു, അവരുടെ അധരം അടി ഇരന്നുവാങ്ങുന്നു.
The lips of a fool intermeddle with strife: and his mouth provoketh quarrels.
7 ഭോഷരുടെ വായ് അവർക്കു നാശഹേതുവും അധരങ്ങൾ അവരുടെ ജീവനു കെണിയും ആകുന്നു.
The mouth of a fool is his destruction: and his lips are the ruin of his soul.
8 ഏഷണി പറയുന്നവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ സ്വാദുഭോജനംപോലെയാകുന്നു; അതു ശരീരത്തിന്റെ അന്തർഭാഗത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുന്നു.
The words of the double tongued are as if they were harmless: and they reach even to the inner parts of the bowels. Fear casteth down the slothful: and the souls of the effeminate shall be hungry.
9 സ്വന്തം തൊഴിലിൽ അലസത കാണിക്കുന്നവർ വിനാശം വിതയ്ക്കുന്നവരുടെ സഹോദരങ്ങളാകുന്നു.
He that is loose and slack in his work, is the brother of him that wasteth his own works.
10 യഹോവയുടെ നാമം കെട്ടുറപ്പുള്ള ഒരു കോട്ടയാണ്; നീതിനിഷ്ഠർ അവിടേക്കോടിച്ചെന്ന് സുരക്ഷിതരാകുന്നു.
The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the just runneth to it, and shall be exalted.
11 ധനമുള്ളവരുടെ സമ്പത്ത് അവർക്കു കോട്ടകെട്ടിയ നഗരമാണ്; അത് ആർക്കും കയറാൻപറ്റാത്ത മതിലെന്ന് അവർ സങ്കൽപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
The substance of the rich man is the city of his strength, and as a strong wall compassing him about.
12 അഹന്ത നാശത്തിന്റെ മുന്നോടിയാണ്, എന്നാൽ എളിമ ബഹുമതിക്കു മുമ്പേപോകുന്നു.
Before destruction, the heart of a man is exalted: and before he be glorified, it is humbled.
13 കേൾക്കുന്നതിനുമുമ്പേ ഉത്തരം നൽകുന്നത് മടയത്തരവും അപമാനവും ആകുന്നു.
He that answereth before he heareth sheweth himself to be a fool, and worthy of confusion.
14 ഉന്മേഷമുള്ളഹൃദയം രോഗാതുരത അതിജീവിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ തകർന്ന ഹൃദയം ആർക്ക് സഹിക്കാൻ കഴിയും?
The spirit of a man upholdeth his infirmity: but a spirit that is easily angered, who can bear?
15 വിവേകമുള്ളവരുടെ ഹൃദയം പരിജ്ഞാനം ആർജിക്കുന്നു, ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ കാതുകൾ അതു കണ്ടെത്തുന്നു.
A wise heart shall acquire knowledge: and the ear of the wise seeketh instruction.
16 ദാനം ദാതാവിനു വഴിതുറക്കുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ മഹാന്മാരുടെ നിരയിലേക്ക് ആനയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
A man’s gift enlargeth his may, and maketh him room before princes.
17 എതിരാളി എതിർവിസ്താരം ചെയ്യുന്നതുവരെ ആദ്യം അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വാദം യുക്തിസഹം എന്നു കരുതപ്പെടും.
The just is first accuser of himself: his friend cometh, and shall search him.
18 നറുക്കിടുന്നതു തർക്കങ്ങൾക്കു പരിഹാരം വരുത്തുകയും പ്രബലരായ പ്രതിയോഗികളെ സമവായത്തിൽ എത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
The lot suppresseth contentions, and determineth even between the mighty.
19 ഹൃദയത്തിൽ മുറിവേറ്റ സഹോദരങ്ങളെ അനുരഞ്ജിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് കെട്ടുറപ്പുള്ള കോട്ടകടക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ ദുഷ്കരം; തർക്കങ്ങൾ കോട്ടവാതിലിന്റെ ഇരുമ്പഴികൾപോലെയും.
A brother that is helped by his brother, is like a strong city: and judgments are like the bars of cities.
20 ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്റെ വായുടെ ഫലത്തിൽനിന്ന് അയാളുടെ വയറിനു തൃപ്തിവരുന്നു; അവരുടെ അധരങ്ങളുടെ വിളവുകൊണ്ട് അവർ സംതൃപ്തരാകുന്നു.
Of the fruit of a man’s mouth shall his belly be satisfied: and the offspring of his lips shall fill him.
21 മരണവും ജീവനും നൽകാനുള്ള ശക്തി നാവിനുണ്ട്, അതിനെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവർ അതിന്റെ ഫലമനുഭവിക്കും.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: they that love it, shall eat the fruits thereof.
22 ഭാര്യയെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നവൻ നന്മ കണ്ടെത്തുകയും യഹോവയിൽനിന്നു പ്രസാദം കൈപ്പറ്റുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
He that hath found a good wife, hath found a good thing, and shall receive a pleasure from the Lord. He that driveth away a good wife, driveth away a good thing: but he that keepeth an adulteress, is foolish and wicked.
23 ദരിദ്രർ കരുണയ്ക്കായി കേണപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ ധനികർ പരുഷമായി പ്രതിവാദം നടത്തുന്നു.
The poor will speak with supplications, and the rich will speak roughly.
24 അവിശ്വസ്തരായ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുള്ളവർ പെട്ടെന്നു നശിച്ചുപോകും, എന്നാൽ സഹോദരങ്ങളെക്കാൾ ചേർന്നുനിൽക്കുന്ന സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുമുണ്ട്.
A man amiable in society, shall be more friendly than a brother.
