1 അഥാരീം വഴിയായി ഇസ്രായേൽ വരുന്നു എന്നു തെക്കേദേശത്തു താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരാജാവായ അരാദ് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അയാൾ ഇസ്രായേല്യരെ ആക്രമിച്ച് അവരിൽ ചിലരെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയി.
The Canaanite [Descendant of Humbled], the king of Arad, who lived in the South, sh'ma ·heard obeyed· that Israel [God prevails] came by the way of Atharim. He fought against Israel [God prevails], and took some of them captive.
2 അപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേൽ, “അവിടന്ന് ഈ ജനത്തെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ കൈകളിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുതരുമെങ്കിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ അവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളെ ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യും” എന്ന് യഹോവയോട് ശപഥംചെയ്തു.
Israel [God prevails] vowed a vow to Adonai, and said, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”
3 യഹോവ ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു കനാന്യരെ അവർക്ക് ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു. അവർ അവരെയും അവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളെയും നിശ്ശേഷം നശിപ്പിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ ആ സ്ഥലത്തിനു ഹോർമാ എന്നു പേരായി.
Adonai sh'ma ·heard obeyed· the voice of Israel [God prevails], and delivered up the Canaanites [Descendants of Humbled]; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities. The name of the place was called Hormah.
4 ഏദോം ചുറ്റിപ്പോകേണ്ടതിനായി അവർ ഹോർ പർവതത്തിൽനിന്ന് ചെങ്കടലിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയിലൂടെ യാത്രചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ വഴിമധ്യേ ജനം അക്ഷമരായി.
They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Sea of Suf [Reed Sea], to go around the land of Edom [Red] The soul of the people was very discouraged because of the journey.
5 അവർ ദൈവത്തിനും മോശയ്ക്കും വിരോധമായി സംസാരിച്ച്, “മരുഭൂമിയിൽ മരിക്കേണ്ടതിനു നിങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളെ എന്തിന് ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു? ഇവിടെ അപ്പവുമില്ല! വെള്ളവുമില്ല! ഈ നിസ്സാരഭക്ഷണം ഞങ്ങൾ വെറുക്കുന്നു!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
The people spoke against God, and against Moses [Drawn out], “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery] to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread.”
6 അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ അഗ്നിസർപ്പങ്ങളെ അയച്ചു. അവ ജനത്തെ കടിച്ചു, ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ അനേകംപേർ മരിച്ചു.
Adonai sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people. Many people of Israel [God prevails] died.
7 ജനം മോശയുടെ അടുക്കൽവന്ന്, “ഞങ്ങൾ യഹോവയ്ക്കും താങ്കൾക്കും എതിരായി സംസാരിച്ചതിനാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ പാപംചെയ്തു. യഹോവ സർപ്പങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്ന് അകറ്റേണ്ടതിനായി പ്രാർഥിക്കണമേ” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ മോശ ജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി പ്രാർഥിച്ചു.
The people came to Moses [Drawn out], and said, “We have sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)·, because we have spoken against Adonai, and against you. Pray to Adonai, that he take away the serpents from us.” Moses [Drawn out] prayed for the people.
8 യഹോവ മോശയോട്, “ഒരു വിഷസർപ്പത്തെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി ഒരു കൊടിമരത്തിൽ ഉയർത്തുക. സർപ്പദംശനമേറ്റ ഏതൊരാളും അതിൽ നോക്കിയാൽ ജീവിക്കും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Make a fiery serpent, and set it up on a pole. It shall happen, that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”
9 അങ്ങനെ മോശ വെങ്കലംകൊണ്ട് ഒരു സർപ്പം ഉണ്ടാക്കി അതിനെ ഒരു കൊടിമരത്തിൽ ഉയർത്തിനിർത്തി. ഇതിനുശേഷം സർപ്പദംശനമേറ്റവർ വെങ്കലസർപ്പത്തെ നോക്കി; അവരെ മരണം കീഴടക്കിയില്ല.
Moses [Drawn out] made a serpent of bronze, and set it on the pole. If a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked at the serpent of bronze, he lived.
10 ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ തങ്ങളുടെ യാത്രതുടർന്ന് ഓബോത്തിൽ പാളയമടിച്ചു.
The children of Israel [God prevails] traveled, and encamped in Oboth.
11 അതിനുശേഷം അവർ ഓബോത്തിൽനിന്ന് യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ട് സൂര്യോദയത്തിനുനേരേ മോവാബിന് അഭിമുഖമായുള്ള മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഇയ്യെ-അബാരീമിൽ പാളയമടിച്ചു.
They traveled from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab [From father], toward the sunrise.
12 അവിടെനിന്ന് അവർ മുമ്പോട്ടുനീങ്ങി സേരെദ് താഴ്വരയിൽ പാളയമടിച്ചു.
From there they traveled, and encamped in the valley of Zered.
13 അവർ അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ട് അമോര്യരുടെ അതിർത്തിയിലേക്കു നീളുന്ന മരുഭൂമിയിലുള്ള അർന്നോൻനദിക്കു സമാന്തരമായി പാളയമടിച്ചു. മോവാബിന്റെയും അമോര്യരുടെയും പ്രദേശങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇടയിൽ മോവാബിന്റെ അതിർത്തിയാണ് അർന്നോൻ.
From there they traveled, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that comes out of the border of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers]: for the Arnon is the border of Moab [From father], between Moab [From father] and the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers].
14 തന്മൂലം, “സൂഫയിലെ വാഹേബും അർന്നോൻ മലയിടുക്കുകളും
Therefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Adonai, “Vaheb in Suphah, the valleys of the Arnon,
15 മോവാബിന്റെ അതിർത്തിയിലുടനീളം ചാഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്ന ആർപട്ടണംവരെയുള്ള മലഞ്ചെരിവുകളും” എന്ന് യഹോവയുടെ യുദ്ധപുസ്തകത്തിൽ പരാമർശിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
the slope of the valleys that incline toward the dwelling of Ar, leans on the border of Moab [From father].”
16 അവിടെനിന്ന് അവർ ബേരിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു. “ജനങ്ങളെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടുക, ഞാൻ അവർക്കു വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കും,” എന്ന് യഹോവ മോശയോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത കിണർ ഇതുതന്നെ.
From there they traveled to Beer; that is the well of which Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”
17 അപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേൽ ഈ ഗാനം ആലപിച്ചു: “കിണറേ, പൊങ്ങിവാ! അതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു പാടുക,
Then Israel [God prevails] sang this song: “Spring up, well! Sing to it,
18 പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ കുഴിച്ച കിണർ, ജനശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാർ ചെങ്കോൽകൊണ്ടും ദണ്ഡുകൾകൊണ്ടും കുത്തിയ കിണറിനെക്കുറിച്ചുതന്നെ.” ഇതിനുശേഷം അവർ മരുഭൂമിയിൽനിന്ന് മത്ഥാനയിലേക്കും
the well, which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter, and with their poles.” From the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;
19 മത്ഥാനയിൽനിന്ന് നഹലീയേലിലേക്കും, നഹലീയേലിൽനിന്ന് ബാമോത്തിലേക്കും,
and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;
20 ബാമോത്തിൽനിന്ന് മോവാബിലെ താഴ്വരയിലേക്കും പോയി. അതു മരുഭൂമിക്ക് അഭിമുഖമായുള്ള പിസ്ഗകൊടുമുടിയുടെ താഴെയാണ്.
and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab [From father], to the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the desert.
21 അവിടെനിന്ന് ഇസ്രായേൽ അമോര്യരുടെ രാജാവായ സീഹോന്റെ അടുക്കൽ സന്ദേശവാഹകരെ അയച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു:
Israel [God prevails] sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], saying,
22 “താങ്കളുടെ രാജ്യത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകാൻ ഞങ്ങളെ അനുവദിക്കണമേ. ഞങ്ങൾ വയലിലോ മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പിലോ കടക്കുകയോ കിണറ്റിൽനിന്ന് വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുകയോ ഇല്ല. താങ്കളുടെ ഭൂപ്രദേശം കടക്കുന്നതുവരെ ഞങ്ങൾ രാജപാതയിലൂടെമാത്രം യാത്രചെയ്യും.”
“Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard. We will not drink of the water of the wells. We will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed your border.”
23 എന്നാൽ സീഹോൻ തന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകാൻ ഇസ്രായേലിനെ അനുവദിച്ചില്ല. അയാൾ സൈന്യത്തെയെല്ലാം ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി ഇസ്രായേലിനെതിരായി മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു. യാഹാസിലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ അയാൾ ഇസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
Sihon would not allow Israel [God prevails] to pass through his border, but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel [God prevails] into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz. He fought against Israel [God prevails].
24 എന്നാൽ ഇസ്രായേൽ അയാളെ വാൾകൊണ്ടു കൊന്ന് അർന്നോൻമുതൽ യാബ്ബോക്കുവരെ അയാളുടെ ദേശം പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു. അമ്മോന്യരുടെ അതിരുവരെമാത്രമേ പിടിച്ചെടുത്തുള്ളൂ, കാരണം അവരുടെ അതിർത്തി കോട്ടകെട്ടി ബലപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.
Israel [God prevails] struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon [Tribal people]; for the border of the children of Ammon [Tribal people] was strong.
25 ഹെശ്ബോനും അതിനുചുറ്റുമുള്ള സകലഗ്രാമങ്ങളുമടക്കം അമോര്യരുടെ എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളും ഇസ്രായേൽ പിടിച്ചടക്കി അവിടെ താമസമാക്കി.
Israel [God prevails] took all these cities. Israel [God prevails] lived in all the cities of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], in Heshbon, and in all its villages.
26 അമോര്യരാജാവായ സീഹോന്റെ പട്ടണമായിരുന്നു ഹെശ്ബോൻ. അദ്ദേഹം മോവാബിൽ മുമ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്ന രാജാവിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്ത് അർന്നോൻനദിവരെയുള്ള സകലഭൂപ്രദേശങ്ങളും പിടിച്ചടക്കിയിരുന്നു.
For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], who had fought against the former king of Moab [From father], and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.
27 അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് കവികൾ പറയുന്നത്: “ഹെശ്ബോനിലേക്കു വരിക, അതു വീണ്ടും പണിയപ്പെടട്ടെ; സീഹോന്റെ പട്ടണം പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെടട്ടെ.
Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, “Come to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established;
28 “ഹെശ്ബോനിൽനിന്ന് അഗ്നി പുറപ്പെട്ടു, സീഹോന്റെ നഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു ജ്വാലയും. മോവാബിലെ ആർപട്ടണവും അർന്നോൻ ഗിരികളിലെ നിവാസികളെയും അതു ദഹിപ്പിച്ചു.
for a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab [From father], The lords of the high places of the Arnon.
29 മോവാബേ, നിനക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം! കെമോശ് ജനതയേ, നിങ്ങൾ നശിച്ചു! അയാൾ തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ പലായിതരായും പുത്രിമാരെ അമോര്യരാജാവായ സീഹോന് അടിമകളായും കൈവിട്ടു.
Woe to you, Moab [From father]! You are undone, people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers].
30 “എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങളവരെ തകർത്തുകളഞ്ഞു; ദീബോൻവരെ ഹെശ്ബോന്റെ അധീനതയിലുള്ളതെല്ലാം നശിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഞങ്ങൾ അവരെ മെദേബായിലേക്കു നീളുന്ന നോഫാവരെയും തകർത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.”
We have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon. We have laid waste even to Nophah, Which reaches to Medeba.”
31 അങ്ങനെ ഇസ്രായേൽ അമോര്യരുടെ ദേശത്തു താമസിച്ചു.
Thus Israel [God prevails] lived in the land of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers].
32 മോശ യാസേരിലേക്കു ചാരന്മാരെ അയച്ചശേഷം, അതിനുചുറ്റുമുള്ള ജനാധിവാസകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളെ ഇസ്രായേൽ പിടിച്ചെടുത്ത് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന അമോര്യരെ ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
Moses [Drawn out] sent to spy out Jazer. They took its villages, and drove out the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers] who were there.
33 അതിനുശേഷം അവർ തിരിഞ്ഞ് ബാശാനിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയേ കയറിപ്പോയി. അപ്പോൾ ബാശാൻരാജാവായ ഓഗും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സർവസൈന്യവും അവരുടെനേരേ ചെന്ന് എദ്രെയിൽവെച്ചു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
They turned and went up by the way of Bashan. Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
34 യഹോവ മോശയോട്, “അവനെ ഭയപ്പെടരുത്; ഞാൻ അവനെ അവന്റെ സർവസൈന്യത്തോടും അവന്റെ ദേശത്തോടുംകൂടി നിന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഹെശ്ബോനിൽ വാണിരുന്ന അമോര്യരാജാവായ സീഹോനോടു ചെയ്തതുതന്നെ നീ അവനോടും ചെയ്യുക” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Don’t fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with all his people, and his land. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], who lived at Heshbon.”
35 അങ്ങനെ അവർ അയാളെ അയാളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരോടും സർവസൈന്യത്തോടുംകൂടെ നിശ്ശേഷം കൊന്നൊടുക്കി, ആരും ശേഷിച്ചില്ല. അവർ അവരുടെ ദേശം കൈവശമാക്കി.
So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.
