നെഹെമ്യാവു 6

1 ഞാൻ മതിൽ പുനരുദ്ധരിച്ചെന്നും കവാടങ്ങൾക്കു കതകുകളൊന്നും വെച്ചിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽപോലും, ഒരു ഭാഗത്തും വിടവുകൾ അവശേഷിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നും സൻബല്ലത്തും തോബിയാവും അരാബ്യനായ ഗേശെമും ഞങ്ങളുടെ മറ്റു ശത്രുക്കളും കേട്ടു;

Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and [that] there was no breach left in it, (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates; )

2 “വരിക, ഓനോസമഭൂമിയിലെ ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ നമുക്ക് കണ്ടുമുട്ടാം,” എന്ന് സൻബല്ലത്തും ഗേശെമും എനിക്ക് ഒരു സന്ദേശം അയച്ചു. എന്നാൽ അവർ എന്നെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കാൻ പദ്ധതിയിട്ടിരുന്നു;

That Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in [some one of] the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

3 അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ ദൂതന്മാർ മുഖേന ഇപ്രകാരം അറിയിച്ചു: “ഞാൻ ഒരു വലിയ വേലയിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്, അത് ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു വരാനാവില്ല. നിങ്ങളെ കാണുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി എന്തിനാണു വേല മുടക്കി ഞാൻ വരുന്നത്?”

And I sent messengers to them, saying, I [am] doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

4 അവർ ഇതേ സന്ദേശം നാലുപ്രാവശ്യം അയച്ചു; ഓരോ പ്രാവശ്യവും ഞാൻ ഇതേ മറുപടിതന്നെ അവർക്കു നൽകി.

Yet they sent to me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

5 അഞ്ചാംപ്രാവശ്യവും ഇതേ സന്ദേശവുമായി സൻബല്ലത്തിന്റെ ഭൃത്യൻ വന്നു; അവന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഒരു തുറന്ന കത്തുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

Then Sanballat sent his servant to me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;

6 അതിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം എഴുതിയിരുന്നു: “താങ്കളും യെഹൂദരും കലാപത്തിനായി ഒരുങ്ങുന്നെന്നും അതിനായി നിങ്ങൾ മതിൽ പുതുക്കിപ്പണിയുന്നെന്നും ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ദേശങ്ങളിൽ വാർത്ത എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഈ കാര്യം സത്യമെന്ന് ഗശ്‌മൂവും പറയുന്നു.

In which [was] written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith [it], [that] thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.

7 ഈ വാർത്തകളനുസരിച്ച്, ‘യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ ഒരു രാജാവുണ്ട്’ എന്നു താങ്കളെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കാൻ പ്രവാചകരെ നിയമിച്ചെന്നും അറിയുന്നു. ഈ വസ്തുതകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരം രാജാവിനു നൽകുന്നതാണ്. അതിനാൽ വരിക, നമുക്കു ഒരു കൂടിക്കാഴ്ച്ച നടത്താം.”

And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, [There is] a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.

8 അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു ഞാൻ ഇപ്രകാരം മറുപടി നൽകി: “താങ്കൾ പറയുന്നതുപോലെ ഒന്നും സംഭവിക്കുന്നില്ല; ഇതെല്ലാം താങ്കളുടെ ബുദ്ധിയിൽനിന്നുതന്നെ ഉടലെടുത്തതാണ്.”

Then I sent to him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thy own heart.

9 “ജോലി മുടങ്ങുംവിധം അവർ തീരെ ധൈര്യഹീനരാകും; അതു പൂർത്തിയാക്കാൻ അവർക്കു കഴിയുകയുമില്ല” എന്നു ചിന്തിച്ച്, ഞങ്ങളെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്താനാണ് അവരെല്ലാം ശ്രമിച്ചത്. എന്നാൽ, “എന്റെ കൈകളെ ഇപ്പോൾ ബലപ്പെടുത്തണമേ” എന്നു ഞാൻ പ്രാർഥിച്ചു.

For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it may not be done. Now therefore, [O God], strengthen my hands.

10 ഞാൻ ഒരു ദിവസം മെഹേതബേലിന്റെ മകനായ ദെലായാവിന്റെ മകൻ ശെമയ്യാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽച്ചെന്നു; അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ വീടിനുള്ളിൽ കതകടച്ച് ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം എന്നോട്, “നമുക്കു ദൈവാലയത്തിനുള്ളിൽവെച്ച് കാണാം, അങ്ങയെ കൊല്ലേണ്ടതിന് അവർ വരുന്നതിനാൽ മന്ദിരത്തിനുള്ളിൽ കടന്ന് നമുക്കു കതകടച്ചിരിക്കാം. ഈ രാത്രിതന്നെ അവർ അങ്ങയെ വധിക്കുന്നതിനായി വരുന്നതാണ്,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who [was] shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

11 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു, “എന്നെപ്പോലെയുള്ള ഒരാൾ ഓടിപ്പോകണമോ? തന്റെ ജീവരക്ഷയ്ക്കായി ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകാൻ എന്നെപ്പോലെ ഒരുത്തനു കഴിയുമോ? ഞാൻ പോകുകയില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who [is there], that, [being] as I [am], would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.

12 അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ദൈവം അയച്ചതല്ലെന്നും തോബിയാവും സൻബല്ലത്തും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങിയതിനാലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം എനിക്കെതിരേ പ്രവചിച്ചതെന്നും എനിക്കു മനസ്സിലായി.

And lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

13 ഞാൻ ഭയപ്പെട്ട് ഇങ്ങനെ പ്രവർത്തിച്ച് ഒരു പാപം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിനും എന്റെനേരേ അപവാദംപരത്തി എനിക്കു മാനഹാനി വരുത്തേണ്ടതിനും അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങിയതായിരുന്നു.

Therefore [was] he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and [that] they might have [matter] for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

14 എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, അവർ ചെയ്തതുനിമിത്തം തോബിയാവിനെയും സൻബല്ലത്തിനെയും കൂടാതെ എന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്താൻ ശ്രമിച്ച നോവദ്യാ എന്ന പ്രവാചികയെയും മറ്റു പ്രവാചകരെയും ഓർക്കണമേ!

My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

15 അങ്ങനെ മതിൽ നിർമാണം അൻപത്തിരണ്ടു ദിവസംകൊണ്ട്, എലൂൽമാസം ഇരുപത്തഞ്ചാംതീയതി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി.

So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth [day] of [the month] Elul, in fifty and two days.

16 ഞങ്ങളുടെ സകലശത്രുക്കളും ചുറ്റുപാടുള്ള ജനതകളും ഇതു കേട്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു; ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സഹായത്താലാണ് ഈ പണി പൂർത്തീകരിച്ചതെന്നു മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ അവരുടെ ആത്മവിശ്വാസം ചോർന്നുപോയി.

And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard [of it], and all the heathen that [were] about us saw [these things], they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought by our God.

17 ആ കാലത്ത് യെഹൂദാപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരിൽനിന്നു തോബിയാവിനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽനിന്ന് അവർക്കും ധാരാളം കത്തുകൾ ലഭിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

Moreover, in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and [the letters] of Tobiah came to them.

18 അദ്ദേഹം ആരഹിന്റെ മകനായ ശെഖന്യാവിന്റെ മരുമകൻ ആയിരുന്നതിനാലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൻ യെഹോഹാനാൻ ബേരെഖ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ മെശുല്ലാമിന്റെ മകളെ വിവാഹംചെയ്തിരുന്നതിനാലും യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ അനേകർ അദ്ദേഹവുമായി കരാറിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.

For [there were] many in Judah sworn to him, because he [was] the son-in-law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.

19 അത്രയുമല്ല, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സൽപ്രവൃത്തികളെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർ എന്നോടു പറയുകയും ഞാൻ പറയുന്നത് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവന്നു. എന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്താനായി തോബിയാവ് എഴുത്ത് അയയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. [And] Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
