നെഹെമ്യാവു 2
1 അർഥഹ്ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്റെ ഇരുപതാംവർഷം നീസാൻ മാസത്തിൽ, അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുവേണ്ടി വീഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടുവന്നപ്പോൾ, ഞാൻ രാജാവിനു വീഞ്ഞെടുത്ത് കൊടുത്തു. ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ ഇതിനുമുമ്പ് ഒരിക്കലും ദുഃഖിതനായിരുന്നിട്ടില്ല.
And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not in times past been sad in his presence.
2 അതുകൊണ്ട്, രാജാവ് എന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചു, “നിനക്ക് അസുഖമൊന്നുമില്ലല്ലോ, നിന്റെ മുഖം ദുഃഖിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് എന്താണ്? ഇത് ഹൃദയത്തിൽനിന്നുള്ള ദുഃഖമല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നും ആകാനിടയില്ല.” അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ വളരെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു;
Therefore the king said to me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very greatly afraid,
3 ഞാൻ രാജാവിനോട് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “രാജാവ് ദീർഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കട്ടെ! എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളുള്ള നഗരം ശൂന്യമായും അതിന്റെ കവാടങ്ങൾ തീവെച്ചു നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടും കിടക്കുമ്പോൾ എന്റെ മുഖത്ത് എങ്ങനെ ദുഃഖമുണ്ടാകാതിരിക്കും?”
And said to the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and its gates are consumed with fire?
4 രാജാവ് എന്നോട്, “എന്താണ് നിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ സ്വർഗത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തോടു പ്രാർഥിച്ചതിനുശേഷം,
Then the king said to me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.
5 രാജാവിനോട്, “അങ്ങേക്കു തിരുഹിതമുണ്ടായി, അവിടത്തെ തിരുമുമ്പിൽ ദാസനു ദയ ലഭിച്ചുവെങ്കിൽ, യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളുള്ള നഗരം പുനർനിർമിക്കുന്നതിന് അടിയനെ അയയ്ക്കണമേ” എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
And I said to the king, If it should please the king, and if thy servant hath found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.
6 “നിന്റെ യാത്രയ്ക്ക് എത്രനാൾ എടുക്കും? നീ എപ്പോൾ മടങ്ങിവരും?” എന്നു രാജാവ് എന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ രാജ്ഞിയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നെ അയയ്ക്കാൻ രാജാവിനു സമ്മതമായി; ഞാൻ ഒരു അവധിയും പറഞ്ഞു.
And the king said to me, (the queen also sitting by him, ) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
7 ഞാൻ ഇതുകൂടി രാജാവിനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു: “രാജാവിനു ഹിതമെങ്കിൽ, യെഹൂദ്യയിലേക്കുള്ള എന്റെ സുഗമമായ യാത്രയ്ക്കുള്ള സഹായങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നതിന് യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിക്കക്കരെയുള്ള ദേശാധിപതിമാർക്കു കത്തുകൾ നൽകിയാലും.
Moreover I said to the king, If it should please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may let me pass through till I come into Judah;
8 കൂടാതെ, ആലയത്തോടു ചേർന്ന കോട്ടവാതിലുകൾക്കും നഗരമതിലിനും ഞാൻ പാർക്കാനിരിക്കുന്ന വീടിനും തുലാം മുതലായവ വെക്കാനാവശ്യമായ തടി നൽകാൻ രാജാവിന്റെ വനപാലകനായ ആസാഫിന് ഒരു കത്തും നൽകണമേ.” എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദയയുള്ള കൈ എനിക്ക് അനുകൂലമാകുകയാൽ, രാജാവ് എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു.
And a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which is near to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.
9 അങ്ങനെ ഞാൻ യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിക്കക്കരെയുള്ള ദേശാധിപതിമാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് രാജാവിന്റെ കത്തുകൾ അവരെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. രാജാവ് എന്നോടൊപ്പം സൈന്യാധിപന്മാരെയും കുതിരപ്പടയാളികളെയും അയച്ചിരുന്നു.
Then I came to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.
10 ഹോരോന്യനായ സൻബല്ലത്തും അമ്മോന്യ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായ തോബിയാവും ഇത് അറിഞ്ഞു; ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ക്ഷേമം ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി ഒരാൾ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നത് അവർക്ക് വളരെ അസ്വസ്ഥതയുണ്ടാക്കി.
When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there had come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
11 ഞാൻ ജെറുശലേമിൽ എത്തി, അവിടെ മൂന്നുദിവസം താമസിച്ചതിനുശേഷം,
So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
12 ചില ആൾക്കാരുമായി രാത്രിയിൽ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. ജെറുശലേമിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ദൈവം എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ നൽകിയ ചിന്തകൾ ഞാൻ ആരോടും പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല. ഞാൻ കയറിയിരുന്ന മൃഗമല്ലാതെ, മറ്റു മൃഗങ്ങളൊന്നും എന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.
And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, except the beast that I rode upon.
13 രാത്രിയിൽ ഞാൻ താഴ്വാരം കവാടത്തിൽക്കൂടി പെരുമ്പാമ്പുറവിങ്കലും കുപ്പക്കവാടത്തിങ്കലും ചെന്ന്, ഇടിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്ന ജെറുശലേമിന്റെ മതിലുകളും അഗ്നിക്കിരയായ കവാടങ്ങളും പരിശോധിച്ചു.
And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and their gates were consumed with fire.
14 തുടർന്ന് ഞാൻ ഉറവുകവാടത്തിലേക്കും രാജാവിന്റെ കുളത്തിലേക്കും ചെന്നു; എന്നാൽ എന്റെ വാഹനമൃഗത്തിനു കടന്നുപോകാൻ മതിയായ സ്ഥലം അവിടില്ലായിരുന്നു.
Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
15 അതിനാൽ രാത്രിയിൽ ഞാൻ താഴ്വരവഴി ചെന്ന് മതിൽ പരിശോധിച്ചശേഷം തിരിഞ്ഞ് താഴ്വാരം കവാടത്തിൽക്കൂടി മടങ്ങിയെത്തി.
Then I went up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall, and turned back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned.
16 ഞാൻ എവിടെപ്പോയി എന്നോ എന്തുചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നോ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ ആരും അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല; യെഹൂദരോടോ പുരോഹിതന്മാരോടോ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടോ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരോടോ മറ്റു ജോലിക്കാരോടോ ഞാൻ അതുവരെ ഒന്നും പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല.
And the rulers knew not where I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work.
17 പിന്നീട് ഞാൻ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “നാം അകപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ദുരവസ്ഥ നിങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നല്ലോ. ജെറുശലേം ശൂന്യമായും അതിന്റെ കവാടങ്ങൾ അഗ്നിക്കിരയായും കിടക്കുന്നു. വരിക, നാം ഇനിയും നിന്ദിതരാകരുത്, അതിനാൽ ജെറുശലേമിന്റെ മതിൽ നമുക്കു പുനർനിർമിക്കാം.”
Then said I to them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and its gates are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may be no more a reproach.
18 എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കൈ എനിക്ക് അനുകൂലമായിരുന്നതും രാജാവ് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുകളും ഞാൻ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ അവർ, “നമുക്കു എഴുന്നേറ്റു പുനർനിർമാണം ആരംഭിക്കാം!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ഈ നല്ല വേലയ്ക്കായി അവർ മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken to me. And they said, Let us rise and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
19 എന്നാൽ ഹോരോന്യനായ സൻബല്ലത്തും അമ്മോന്യ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായ തോബിയാവും അരാബ്യനായ ഗേശെമും ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങളെ പരിഹസിച്ചു നിന്ദിച്ചു: “നിങ്ങൾ എന്താണു ചെയ്യുന്നത്? രാജാവിനോടു മത്സരിക്കാനാണോ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭാവം?” എന്ന് അവർ ചോദിച്ചു.
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they mocked, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?
20 അതിനു മറുപടിയായി ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു: “സ്വർഗത്തിലെ ദൈവം ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ജയം നൽകും; ആകയാൽ അവിടത്തെ ദാസരായ ഞങ്ങൾ ഈ മതിൽ പുനർനിർമിക്കും. എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ജെറുശലേമിൽ ഓഹരിയോ അർഹതയോ ചരിത്രപരമായ അവകാശമോ ഇല്ലല്ലോ.”
Then I answered them, and said to them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
