നെഹെമ്യാവു 13
1 ആ ദിവസം ജനം കേൾക്കെ മോശയുടെ പുസ്തകം ഉറക്കെ വായിച്ചപ്പോൾ, അമ്മോന്യരും മോവാബ്യരും ഒരുനാളും ദൈവസഭയിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കരുത് എന്ന് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു;
On that day there was read in the book of Moses before the ears of the people; and there was found written therein, that no 'Ammonite or Moabite should come into the congregation of God for ever;
2 കാരണം അപ്പവും വെള്ളവുമായി ഇസ്രായേലിനെ എതിരേൽക്കാതെ അവരെ ശപിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ബിലെയാമിനെ വിളിച്ചവരാണ് അവർ. എങ്കിലും നമ്മുടെ ദൈവം ആ ശാപത്തെ അനുഗ്രഹമാക്കിത്തീർത്തു.
Because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and with water, but had hired Bil'am against them, that he should curse them; although our God had changed the curse into a blessing.
3 ഈ ന്യായപ്രമാണം കേട്ട ജനം അന്യവംശജരെ എല്ലാം ഇസ്രായേലിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കി.
And it tame to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated all the alien mixture from Israel.
4 അതിനുമുമ്പേ, നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ സംഭരണശാലകളുടെ ചുമതല എല്യാശീബ് പുരോഹിതനെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം തോബിയാവിന്റെ ബന്ധുവായിരുന്നതിനാൽ
And before this, Elyashib the priest, appointed over the chambers of the house of our God, and a near [of kin] unto Tobiyah,
5 അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വലിയ ഒരു മുറി നൽകി; ഭോജനയാഗങ്ങൾ, സുഗന്ധദ്രവ്യങ്ങൾ, ആലയംവക ഉപകരണങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയും, ലേവ്യർ, സംഗീതജ്ഞർ, വാതിൽക്കാവൽക്കാർ എന്നിവർക്കു നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ട ധാന്യം, പുതുവീഞ്ഞ്, ഒലിവെണ്ണ എന്നിവയുടെ ദശാംശവും പുരോഹിതന്മാർക്കുള്ള സംഭാവനകളും സൂക്ഷിക്കാനായി മുമ്പ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന മുറിയായിരുന്നു അത്.
Had prepared for him a large chamber, where they had laid in former times the meat-offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was ordained for the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the heave-offering of the priests.
6 ഇതെല്ലാം നടക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് ഞാൻ ജെറുശലേമിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല; കാരണം, ബാബേൽരാജാവായ അർഥഹ്ശഷ്ടാവിന്റെ മുപ്പത്തിരണ്ടാമാണ്ടിൽ ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയിരുന്നു. കുറെനാൾ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ട് ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽനിന്നും അനുവാദം വാങ്ങി
But during all this I was not at Jerusalem; for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king of Babylon I went back unto the king, and after the lapse of some time I obtained by request [leave] of the king;
7 ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവന്നു. തോബിയാവിന് ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ അങ്കണത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു മുറി കൊടുത്ത എല്യാശീബിന്റെ തെറ്റായ നടപടിയെപ്പറ്റി അപ്പോഴാണ് ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞത്.
And I came to Jerusalem, and perceived the evil that Elyashib had done for Tobiyah, in preparing for him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
8 ഇതിൽ ഞാൻ വളരെ കോപിച്ച് തോബിയാവിന്റെ വീട്ടുപകരണങ്ങളൊക്കെയും മുറിയിൽനിന്നു പുറത്തേക്കെറിഞ്ഞു.
And it displeased me greatly: wherefore I cast forth all the household vessels of Tobiyah away out of the chamber.
9 മുറി ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ കൽപ്പനകൊടുത്തു; അതിനുശേഷം ദൈവാലയത്തിലെ ഉപകരണങ്ങളും ഭോജനയാഗങ്ങളും സുഗന്ധദ്രവ്യങ്ങളും ഞാൻ അതിൽ തിരികെവെച്ചു.
And I gave the order, whereupon they cleansed the chambers; and I had brought thither again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat-offering and the frankincense.
10 ലേവ്യർക്കു കൊടുക്കാനുള്ള വിഹിതം അവർക്കു നൽകപ്പെട്ടില്ലെന്നും ശുശ്രൂഷയ്ക്കു നിയുക്തരായ ലേവ്യരും സംഗീതജ്ഞരും തങ്ങളുടെ വയലുകളിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി എന്നും ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞു.
And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given [them]: so that the Levites and the singers, that used to do the work, were fled every one to his field.
11 അതിനാൽ ഞാൻ പ്രമാണികളെ ശാസിച്ച്, “ദൈവാലയം അവഗണിക്കപ്പെട്ടത് എന്തുകൊണ്ട്?” എന്ന് അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് അവരെ ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരുടെ സ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ അവരെ നിയമിച്ചു.
Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why hath the house of God become forsaken? And I gathered them together, and placed them on their posts.
12 യെഹൂദന്മാരെല്ലാവരും ധാന്യം, പുതുവീഞ്ഞ്, ഒലിവെണ്ണ എന്നിവയുടെ ദശാംശം സംഭരണശാലകളിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.
And all Judah brought the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.
13 പുരോഹിതനായ ശെലെമ്യാ, വേദജ്ഞനായ സാദോക്ക്, ലേവ്യനായ പെദായാവ്, എന്നിവരെ സംഭരണശാലകൾക്കു ചുമതലക്കാരാക്കി; മത്ഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ സക്കൂരിന്റെ മകൻ ഹാനാനെ അവർക്കു സഹായിയായും നൽകി. ഇവരെ വിശ്വസ്തരായി എണ്ണിയിരുന്നു. തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരങ്ങളായ ലേവ്യർക്കു വിഭവങ്ങൾ പങ്കിടുകയായിരുന്നു അവരുടെ ചുമതല.
And I appointed receivers over the treasuries, Shelemyah the priest and Zadok the scribe, and Pedayah of the Levites; and with them acted Chanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Matthanyah; for they were accounted as faithful, and it was their duty to make a distribution among their brethren.
14 എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, ഇവനിമിത്തം എന്നെ ഓർക്കണേ! എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിനും അതിലെ ശുശ്രൂഷകൾക്കുംവേണ്ടി വിശ്വസ്തതയോടെ ഞാൻ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചതു മായിച്ചുകളയരുതേ!
Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my pious deeds which I have done for the house of my God, and for those that had charge of it.
15 ആ കാലത്തു ചില യെഹൂദർ ശബ്ബത്തിൽ മുന്തിരിച്ചക്കു ചവിട്ടുന്നതും ധാന്യം ശേഖരിക്കുന്നതും വീഞ്ഞ്, മുന്തിരിപ്പഴം, അത്തിപ്പഴം മുതലായവയോടൊപ്പം കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറ്റുന്നതും ഞാൻ കണ്ടു. ശബ്ബത്തിൽ ഇതെല്ലാം ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരികയായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട്, ആ ദിവസം ഭക്ഷണപദാർഥങ്ങൾ വിൽക്കുന്നതിനെതിരേ ഞാൻ അവർക്കു മുന്നറിയിപ്പു നൽകി.
In those days I saw in Judah some treading wine-presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading burdens on asses, as also wine, grapes and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day; and I warned them on the day whereon they sold provisions.
16 ജെറുശലേമിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്ന സോര്യർ മത്സ്യവും മറ്റു വിവിധ സാധനങ്ങളും ശബ്ബത്തിൽ ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് യെഹൂദർക്കു വിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
Also the men of Tyre [that] dwelt therein brought fish and all kinds of wares, and sold [them] on the sabbath unto the children of Judah and in Jerusalem.
17 യെഹൂദ്യയിലെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ ഞാൻ ശാസിച്ച് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “ശബ്ബത്തിനെ അശുദ്ധമാക്കുന്ന ഈ ദുഷ്കർമം നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്ത്?
Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this which ye are doing, and profaning [thereby] the sabbath day?
18 നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ ഇതേ കാര്യംതന്നെ ചെയ്തതിനല്ലേ ദൈവം നമ്മുടെമേലും ഈ നഗരത്തിന്മേലും ഈ ദുരന്തമെല്ലാം വരുത്തിയത്? ഇപ്പോൾ ശബ്ബത്തിനെ അശുദ്ധമാക്കുകവഴി നിങ്ങൾ ഇസ്രായേലിനെതിരേ ക്രോധം വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.”
Did not your fathers act thus, wherefore our God brought over us all this evil, and over this city? and ye bring yet more wrath over Israel by profaning the sabbath.
19 ശബ്ബത്തിനുമുമ്പ് ജെറുശലേം നഗരകവാടങ്ങളിൽ ഇരുട്ടുപരക്കുമ്പോൾ വാതിലുകൾ അടയ്ക്കാനും, ശബ്ബത്തുകഴിയുന്നതുവരെ അവ തുറക്കാതിരിക്കാനും ഞാൻ നിർദേശം കൊടുത്തു. ശബ്ബത്തുദിവസം ഒരു ചുമടും വരാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് എന്റെ ആൾക്കാരിൽ ചിലരെ ഞാൻ വാതിലുകളിൽ നിയമിച്ചു.
And it came to pass, that, when the shadows were lengthened in the gates of Jerusalem before the sabbath, I gave the order, whereupon the gates were locked, and I ordered that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my young men did I place at the gates, that there should be brought in no burden on the sabbath-day.
20 കച്ചവടക്കാരും വിവിധ സാധനങ്ങൾ വിൽക്കുന്നവരും ഒന്നുരണ്ടുതവണ ജെറുശലേമിനുപുറത്ത് രാത്രി ചെലവിട്ടു.
But the merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside of Jerusalem once or twice.
21 “നിങ്ങൾ മതിലിനരികെ രാത്രി ചെലവഴിക്കുന്നതെന്ത്? ഇനി ഇതാവർത്തിച്ചാൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യും” എന്നു ഞാൻ അവരെ താക്കീതു ചെയ്തു. ആ കാലംമുതൽ അവർ ശബ്ബത്തിൽ വരാതായി.
Thereupon did I warn them, and said unto them, Why do ye lodge along the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth they came no more on the sabbath.
22 തുടർന്ന്, ലേവ്യർ തങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ച്, ശബ്ബത്തുദിവസം വിശുദ്ധമായി പാലിക്കപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്, കവാടങ്ങൾക്കു കാവൽ നിൽക്കാൻ ഞാൻ കൽപ്പിച്ചു. എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, ഈ കാര്യത്തിനുവേണ്ടിയും എന്നെ ഓർത്ത്, അവിടത്തെ മഹാസ്നേഹംനിമിത്തം എന്നോടു കരുണ കാണിക്കണമേ!
And I ordered the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep watch at the gates, to sanctify the sabbath-day. Also this remember unto me, O my God, and shield me according to the abundance of thy kindness.
23 തന്നെയുമല്ല, ആ കാലങ്ങളിൽ അശ്ദോദ്, അമ്മോൻ, മോവാബ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ സ്ത്രീകളെ വിവാഹംകഴിച്ച യെഹൂദന്മാരെ ഞാൻ കണ്ടു.
In those days also I saw certain Jews that had brought home wives of Ashdod, of 'Ammon, and of Moab:
24 അവരുടെ മക്കളിൽ പകുതിപ്പേർ അശ്ദോദിലെ ഭാഷയോ, അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള മറ്റു ഭാഷകളോ സംസാരിച്ചു; യെഹൂദരുടെ ഭാഷ സംസാരിക്കാൻ അവർക്ക് അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു.
And their children spoke partly in the speech of Ashdod, and did not understand to speak in the Jewish language, but according to the language of one or the other people.
25 ഞാൻ അവരെ ശാസിച്ച് അവരുടെമേൽ ശാപം ചൊരിഞ്ഞു; ചില പുരുഷന്മാരെ അടിച്ച് അവരുടെ തലമുടി പറിച്ചെടുത്തു. ഞാൻ അവരെക്കൊണ്ട് ദൈവനാമത്തിൽ ശപഥംചെയ്യിച്ചശേഷം ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ അവരുടെ പുത്രന്മാർക്കു വിവാഹംചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കുകയോ അവരുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാർക്കു വിവാഹത്തിനെടുക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യരുത്.
And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked out their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, nor for yourselves.
26 ഇത്തരം വിവാഹംമൂലമല്ലേ ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവായ ശലോമോൻ പാപം ചെയ്തത്? അനവധി രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെപ്പോലെ ഒരു രാജാവുണ്ടോ? ദൈവത്താൽ സ്നേഹിക്കപ്പെട്ട അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ദൈവം ഇസ്രായേൽ മുഴുവന്റെയും രാജാവാക്കി; എന്നാൽ യെഹൂദേതരരായ സ്ത്രീകൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പാപത്തിൽ വീഴ്ത്തി.
Did not Solomon the king of Israel sin by these things? and although among the many nations there was never a king like him, and beloved as he was by his God, and God had placed him as king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did the alien women mislead to sin.
27 നിങ്ങളും ഇത്തരം മഹാദോഷമെല്ലാം പ്രവർത്തിച്ച് യെഹൂദേതരരായ സ്ത്രീകളെ വിവാഹംകഴിക്കുകവഴി നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തോട് അവിശ്വസ്തത കാട്ടാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളെ അനുവദിക്കുമോ?”
Shall we then hear it said of you, that ye do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in bringing home alien wives?
28 യോയാദായുടെ പുത്രന്മാരിൽ മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ എല്യാശീബിന്റെ മകൻ ഹോരോന്യനായ സൻബല്ലത്തിന്റെ മരുമകൻ ആയിരുന്നു. അതിനാൽ ഞാൻ അവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
And one of the sons of Joyada', the son of Elyashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Choronite; wherefore I chased him away from me.
29 എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, പൗരോഹിത്യസ്ഥാനത്തെയും പൗരോഹിത്യത്തിന്റെയും ലേവ്യരുടെയും ഉടമ്പടിയെയും അവർ അശുദ്ധമാക്കിയതിനാൽ അത് അവരുടെനേരേ കണക്കിടണമേ!
Remember [this] unto them, O my God, because of the defilements of the priesthood, and of the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.
30 അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ലേവ്യരെയും വൈദേശികമായ എല്ലാറ്റിൽനിന്നും ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ച് ഓരോരുത്തർക്കും അവരവരുടെ ജോലികളിൽ ചുമതല നൽകി.
Thus cleansed I them from all aliens, and I appointed the watches of the priests and the Levites, every one in his work;
31 അതതു സമയങ്ങളിൽ വിറകു വഴിപാടുകളും ആദ്യഫലവും നൽകേണ്ടതിനു ഞാൻ ക്രമീകരണംചെയ്തു. എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, എന്നെ കാരുണ്യപൂർവം ഓർക്കണമേ!
And for the procuring of the wood, at fixed time, and for the first-fruits. Remember this unto me, O my God, for good.
