1 “നിങ്ങളുടെ ധർമപ്രവൃത്തികൾ മനുഷ്യർ കാണാൻ അവരുടെമുമ്പിൽ നടത്തുന്ന പ്രകടനങ്ങൾ ആകാതിരിക്കാൻ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക; അങ്ങനെയായാൽ സ്വർഗസ്ഥപിതാവിൽനിന്ന് നിങ്ങൾക്കു യാതൊരു പ്രതിഫലവും ലഭിക്കുകയില്ല.
"Be careful not to do your good deeds in the sight of men, in order to be observed by them. If you do, you have no reward with your heavenly Father.
2 “അതുകൊണ്ട്, കപടഭക്തർ മനുഷ്യരുടെ പ്രശംസ നേടാനായി പള്ളികളിലും തെരുവുകളിലും കാഹളം ഊതി പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് ദാനധർമം ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെ നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യരുത്. അവർക്കുള്ള മുഴുവൻ പ്രതിഫലവും ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഞാൻ സത്യമായി നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
"And whatever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and streets, in order that men may praise them. In solemn truth I tell you they already have their reward in full.
3 നിങ്ങളുടെ വലങ്കൈ ചെയ്യുന്നത് എന്തെന്ന് ഇടങ്കൈ അറിയാത്ത വിധത്തിലായിരിക്കട്ടെ നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്ന ദാനധർമവും.
"But when you give alms, do not let your right hand know what your left is doing,
4 നിങ്ങളുടെ ദാനധർമം രഹസ്യത്തിലായിരിക്കട്ടെ. രഹസ്യത്തിൽ ചെയ്യുന്നത് കാണുന്ന നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവു നിങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രതിഫലംനൽകും.
"so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
5 “പ്രാർഥിക്കുമ്പോൾ മനുഷ്യർ കാണാൻ പള്ളികളിലും തെരുക്കോണുകളിലും നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു പ്രാർഥിക്കാൻ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്ന കപടഭക്തരെപ്പോലെയാകരുത് നിങ്ങൾ. അവർക്ക് അവരുടെ പ്രതിഫലം ലഭിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞു എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് ഉറപ്പായി പറയുന്നു.
"And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the corners of the avenues, in order that men may see them. In solemn truth I tell you that they have their reward in full.
6 എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ പ്രാർഥിക്കുമ്പോൾ, നിങ്ങളുടെ മുറിയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ച്, വാതിലടച്ച്, നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവിനോട് രഹസ്യമായി അപേക്ഷിക്കുക. അപ്പോൾ രഹസ്യത്തിൽ നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്നതു കാണുന്ന നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവ് നിങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രതിഫലംനൽകും.
"But you, when you pray, go into your own room and shut your door; pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7 നിങ്ങൾ പ്രാർഥിക്കുമ്പോൾ യെഹൂദേതരരെപ്പോലെ വൃഥാജൽപ്പനം ചെയ്യരുത്. അതിഭാഷണത്താൽ പ്രാർഥനയ്ക്ക് ഉത്തരം ലഭിക്കും എന്നാണ് അവർ കരുതുന്നത്.
"While praying do not say the same words over and over again, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that by their much speaking they will gain attention.
8 അവരെ അനുകരിക്കരുത്; കാരണം നിങ്ങളുടെ ആവശ്യം എന്തെന്ന് നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവിന് നിങ്ങൾ യാചിക്കുന്നതിനു മുമ്പുതന്നെ അറിയാം.
"Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “അതുകൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്രകാരം പ്രാർഥിക്കുക: “‘സ്വർഗസ്ഥനായ ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവേ, തിരുനാമം ആദരിക്കപ്പെടട്ടെ,
"So pray in this way. "Our Father who art in heaven, May thy name be hallowed,
10 അവിടത്തെ രാജ്യം വരുമാറാകട്ടെ, തിരുഹിതം നിറവേറപ്പെടട്ടെ, സ്വർഗത്തിലെപ്പോലെതന്നെ ഭൂമിയിലും.
thy kingdom come, and thy will be done, On earth, as in heaven.
11 അനുദിനാഹാരം ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇന്നു നൽകണമേ.
Give us today our bread for the day before us;
12 ഞങ്ങളോട് അപരാധം ചെയ്തവരോട് ഞങ്ങൾ ക്ഷമിച്ചതുപോലെതന്നെ, ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപരാധവും ക്ഷമിക്കണമേ.
And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors;
13 ഞങ്ങളെ പ്രലോഭനത്തിലേക്കു നയിക്കരുതേ, ഞങ്ങളെ പിശാചിൽനിന്ന് സംരക്ഷിക്കണമേ. രാജ്യവും ശക്തിയും മഹത്ത്വവും എന്നേക്കും അവിടത്തേതല്ലോ. ആമേൻ.’
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One; For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen.
14 നിങ്ങളോടു പാപംചെയ്യുന്ന മനുഷ്യരോടു നിങ്ങൾ ക്ഷമിക്കുമെങ്കിൽ സ്വർഗസ്ഥനായ പിതാവും നിങ്ങളോട് ക്ഷമിക്കും.
"For if you forgive men their offenses against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you also;
15 എന്നാൽ മനുഷ്യരോട് നിങ്ങൾ ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവ് നിങ്ങളുടെ പാപങ്ങളും ക്ഷമിക്കുകയില്ല.
"but if you do not forgive men your offenses, neither will your heavenly Father forgive you your offenses.
16 “ഉപവസിക്കുമ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ കപടഭക്തരെപ്പോലെ വിഷാദഭാവത്തോടെ ഇരിക്കരുത്; തങ്ങൾ ഉപവാസം അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുകയാണെന്ന് മനുഷ്യരെ കാണിക്കുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി അവർ വിഷാദമുഖം കാണിക്കുന്നു. ഞാൻ സത്യം പറയട്ടെ, അവരുടെ പ്രതിഫലം അവർക്കു ലഭിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞു.
"When you fast, do not look downcast like the hypocrites; for they disfigure their faces so that it may be apparent to men that they are fasting. In solemn truth I tell you, they already have received their reward.
17 എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ ഉപവസിക്കുമ്പോൾ തലയിൽ എണ്ണ തേക്കുകയും മുഖം കഴുകുകയും ചെയ്യുക.
"But when one of you fasts, let him anoint his head and wash his face,
18 അങ്ങനെയായാൽ നിങ്ങൾ ഉപവസിക്കുകയാണെന്ന് മറ്റുള്ളവർ അറിയാതിരിക്കുകയും നിങ്ങളുടെ അദൃശ്യനായ പിതാവുമാത്രം അറിയുകയും ചെയ്യും; നിങ്ങൾ രഹസ്യത്തിൽ ചെയ്യുന്നതു കാണുന്ന നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവു നിങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രതിഫലം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യും.
"so that he may not appear to men to be fasting, but to his Father who is in secret; and his Father who sees in secret will reward him.
19 “കീടങ്ങളും തുരുമ്പും നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും കള്ളന്മാർ അതിക്രമിച്ചുകയറി മോഷ്ടിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്ന ഭൂമിയിൽ നിങ്ങൾ നിക്ഷേപം സംഭരിക്കരുത്;
"Store up for yourselves no treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;
20 പകരം, കീടങ്ങളും തുരുമ്പും നശിപ്പിക്കാതെയും കള്ളന്മാർ അതിക്രമിച്ചുകയറി കവർച്ചചെയ്യാതെയും ഇരിക്കുന്ന സ്വർഗത്തിൽ നിക്ഷേപം സമാഹരിക്കുക.
"but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
21 നിന്റെ നിക്ഷേപം ഇരിക്കുന്നിടത്തുതന്നെയായിരിക്കും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയവും.
"For wherever your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 “കണ്ണ് ശരീരത്തിന്റെ വിളക്കാണ്. നിന്റെ കണ്ണ് നിർമലമെങ്കിൽ ശരീരംമുഴുവനും പ്രകാശിതമായിരിക്കും.
"The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore if your eye is sound, your whole body will be well lighted;
23 കണ്ണ് അശുദ്ധമെങ്കിൽ ശരീരംമുഴുവൻ ഇരുൾമയമായിരിക്കും. നിന്നിലുണ്ട് എന്നുകരുതപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രകാശം ഇരുട്ടാണെങ്കിൽ, ആ ഇരുട്ട് എത്ര ഭയാനകമായിരിക്കും!
"but if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be darkened. If then the very light within you is darkness, how dense is that darkness!
24 “രണ്ട് യജമാനന്മാർക്ക് ദാസ്യവൃത്തി ചെയ്യുക ആരാലും സാധ്യമല്ല. ഒന്നുകിൽ, ഒരു യജമാനനെ പരിത്യജിച്ച് മറ്റേയാളെ സ്നേഹിക്കും; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ, ഒരാളോട് വിശ്വസ്തനായി തുടരുകയും മറ്റേയാളെ വെറുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ദൈവത്തെയും ധനത്തെയും ഒരുമിച്ചു സേവിക്കുക അസാധ്യം.
"No slave can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will pay heed to the one and despise the other. You cannot be the slaves both of God and of gold.
25 “അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: എന്തു ഭക്ഷിക്കും എന്തു പാനംചെയ്യും എന്ന് ജീവസന്ധാരണത്തെപ്പറ്റിയോ എന്തു ധരിക്കും എന്ന് ശരീരത്തെപ്പറ്റിയോ നിങ്ങൾ വ്യാകുലപ്പെടരുത്. ജീവൻ ആഹാരത്തെക്കാളും ശരീരം വസ്ത്രത്തെക്കാളും പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളവയല്ലേ?
"For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, inquiring what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor yet for your body, inquiring what you shall wear. Is not your life more than its food, and your body than its clothing?
26 ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികളെ നോക്കുക; അവ വിതയ്ക്കുകയോ കൊയ്യുകയോ കളപ്പുരകളിൽ സമാഹരിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല. എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്വർഗസ്ഥപിതാവ് അവയ്ക്ക് ഭക്ഷണം നൽകുന്നില്ലേ? അവയെക്കാൾ എത്രയോ വിലപ്പെട്ടവരാണ് നിങ്ങൾ!
"Behold! the birds in the sky! They neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them; and are not you worth more than they?
27 വ്യാകുലപ്പെടുന്നതിലൂടെ തന്റെ ജീവിതകാലയളവിനോട് ഒരു നിമിഷം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കാൻ നിങ്ങളിൽ ആർക്കെങ്കിലും കഴിയുമോ?
"Which one of you by being anxious is able to add even one cubit to his stature?
28 “വസ്ത്രത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് നിങ്ങൾ വ്യാകുലചിത്തരാകുന്നത് എന്തിന്? വയലിലെ ശോശന്നച്ചെടികൾ എങ്ങനെ വളരുന്നെന്നു നിരീക്ഷിക്കുക: അവ അധ്വാനിക്കുകയോ വസ്ത്രം നെയ്യുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല.
"Why be anxious then about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin.
29 എന്നിട്ടും, ശലോമോൻപോലും തന്റെ സകലപ്രതാപത്തിലും ഇവയിൽ ഒന്നിനെപ്പോലെ അണിഞ്ഞൊരുങ്ങിയിരുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
"But I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was robed like one of these.
30 ഇപ്പോഴുള്ളതും നാളെ തീയിൽ കത്തിയമരുന്നതുമായ വയലിലെ പുല്ലിനെ ദൈവം ഇങ്ങനെ അലങ്കരിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ; അൽപ്പവിശ്വാസികളേ, ദൈവം നിങ്ങളെ അതിനെക്കാളും എത്രയോ അധികം കരുതുകയില്ലേ!
"If God then so clothes the grass of the field, which blooms today, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith?
31 അതുകൊണ്ട്, ‘എന്തു ഭക്ഷിക്കും, എന്തു പാനംചെയ്യും, എന്തു ധരിക്കും’ എന്നിങ്ങനെ വിലപിച്ച് വ്യാകുലപ്പെടരുത്.
"Then do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’"
32 ദൈവത്തെ അറിയാത്തവരാണ് ഇവതേടി അലയുന്നത്. ഇവയൊക്കെയും നിങ്ങൾക്കാവശ്യമെന്ന് നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്വർഗസ്ഥപിതാവിന് അറിയാം.
"For all these are things that the Gentiles are eagerly seeking; for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of them all.
33 നിങ്ങൾ പരമപ്രധാനമായി ദൈവരാജ്യവും ദൈവനീതിയും തേടുന്നവരാകുക; അങ്ങനെയായാൽ ഇവ നിങ്ങൾക്കു ലഭ്യമാകും.
"But continue to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
34 അതുകൊണ്ട്, നാളെയെക്കുറിച്ചു വ്യാകുലപ്പെടരുത്; നാളത്തെ ദിവസം അതിനായിത്തന്നെ വ്യാകുലപ്പെട്ടുകൊള്ളും; ഓരോ ദിവസത്തിനും അതിന്റേതായ ക്ലേശങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടല്ലോ.
"Do not then be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own anxieties. Enough for each day are its own troubles."
