മത്തായി 5
1 ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ യേശു ഒരു മലയിൽ കയറി അവിടെ ഇരുന്നു. ശിഷ്യന്മാർ അടുത്തുചെന്നു.
Seeing the multitude of people, Jesus went up the Hill. There He seated Himself, and when His disciples came to Him,
2 അദ്ദേഹം അവരെ തിരുമൊഴികളാൽ ഉപദേശിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു:
He proceeded to teach them, and said:
3 “ആത്മാവിൽ ദരിദ്രരായവർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർക്കുള്ളതല്ലോ സ്വർഗരാജ്യം.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
4 വിലപിക്കുന്നവർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർക്ക് സാന്ത്വനം ലഭിക്കും.
"Blessed are the mourners, for they shall be comforted.
5 സൗമ്യശീലർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർക്ക് ഭൂമി പൈതൃകമായി ലഭിക്കും.
"Blessed are the meek, for they as heirs shall obtain possession of the earth.
6 നീതിക്ക് അതിയായി വിശക്കുകയും ദാഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നവർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർ സംതൃപ്തരാകും.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.
7 കരുണാഹൃദയർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർക്ക് കരുണ ലഭിക്കും.
"Blessed are the compassionate, for they shall receive compassion.
8 ഹൃദയനൈർമല്യമുള്ളവർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർക്കു ദൈവം ദർശനമേകും.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 സമാധാനസ്ഥാപകർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പുത്രരെന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for it is they who will be recognized as sons of God.
10 നീതിക്കുവേണ്ടി പീഡിതരാകുന്നവർ അനുഗൃഹീതർ; അവർക്കുള്ളതല്ലോ സ്വർഗരാജ്യം.
"Blessed are those who have borne persecution in the cause of Righteousness, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
11 “എന്റെ അനുയായികളായതുകൊണ്ട് മനുഷ്യർ നിങ്ങളെ അപമാനിക്കുകയും പീഡിപ്പിക്കുകയും നിങ്ങൾക്കെതിരേ എല്ലാവിധ വ്യാജപ്രസ്താവനകൾ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ അനുഗൃഹീതർ.
"Blessed are you when they have insulted and persecuted you, and have said every cruel thing about you falsely for my sake.
12 നിങ്ങൾ ആനന്ദിച്ചുല്ലസിക്കുക. കാരണം, മഹത്താണ് സ്വർഗത്തിൽ നിങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള പ്രതിഫലം. അങ്ങനെതന്നെ അവർ നിങ്ങൾക്കുമുമ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്ന പ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും പീഡിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
Be joyful and triumphant, because your reward is great in the Heavens; for so were the Prophets before you persecuted.
13 “നിങ്ങൾ ഭൂമിയുടെ ഉപ്പാകുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഉപ്പ്, ഉപ്പുരസം ഇല്ലാത്തതായാൽ അതിന്റെ ഉപ്പുരസം എങ്ങനെ വീണ്ടെടുക്കാൻ കഴിയും? പുറത്തേക്കു വലിച്ചെറിഞ്ഞ്, മനുഷ്യർക്ക് ചവിട്ടിക്കളയാനല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നിനും അത് ഉപകരിക്കുന്നില്ല.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has become tasteless, in what way can it regain its saltness? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown away and trodden on by the passers by.
14 “നിങ്ങൾ ലോകത്തിന്റെ പ്രകാശമാകുന്നു; മലമുകളിലുള്ള പട്ടണം അദൃശ്യമായിരിക്കുക അസാധ്യം.
You are the light of the world; a town cannot be hid if built on a hill-top.
15 വിളക്കു കൊളുത്തി ആരും പറയുടെ കീഴിൽ വെക്കാറില്ല; പിന്നെയോ, അതു വീട്ടിലുള്ള എല്ലാവർക്കും പ്രകാശം നൽകേണ്ടതിന് ഏതെങ്കിലും വിളക്കുകാലിന്മേലാണ് വെക്കുക.
Nor is a lamp lighted to be put under a bushel, but on the lampstand; and then it gives light to all in the house.
16 അതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രകാശവും മനുഷ്യരുടെമുമ്പിൽ പ്രശോഭിക്കട്ടെ; അങ്ങനെ അവർ നിങ്ങളുടെ സൽപ്രവൃത്തികൾ നിരീക്ഷിച്ച് സ്വർഗത്തിലുള്ള നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവിനെ മഹത്ത്വപ്പെടുത്തട്ടെ.
Just so let your light shine before all men, in order that they may see your holy lives and may give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.
17 “ഞാൻ വന്നത് ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെയോ പ്രവാചകരെയോ നീക്കിക്കളയാനാണ് എന്നു ചിന്തിക്കരുത്; നീക്കിക്കളയാനല്ല, മറിച്ച് അവയെ പൂർത്തീകരിക്കാനാണ്.
"Do not for a moment suppose that I have come to abrogate the Law or the Prophets: I have not come to abrogate them but to give them their completion.
18 ഞാൻ ഒരു സത്യം നിങ്ങളോടു പറയാം: ആകാശവും ഭൂമിയും അപ്രത്യക്ഷമായാലും സകലതും നിറവേറുന്നതുവരെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിലെ അക്ഷരങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു വള്ളിക്കോ പുള്ളിക്കോ മാറ്റം വരികയില്ല.
Solemnly I tell you that until Heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or smallest detail will pass away from the Law until all has taken place.
19 ഈ കൽപ്പനകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും ലളിതമെന്ന് കരുതുന്ന ഒന്ന് അവഗണിക്കുകയും അപ്രകാരം ചെയ്യാൻ മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ഉപദേശിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നയാൾ സ്വർഗരാജ്യത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും നിസ്സാരനായി പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെടും; എന്നാൽ, ഈ കൽപ്പനകൾ പാലിക്കുകയും അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യാൻ മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ഉപദേശിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നയാൾ സ്വർഗരാജ്യത്തിൽ മഹാൻ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും.
Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments and teaches others to break them, will be called the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens; but whoever practises them and teaches them, he will be acknowledged as great in the Kingdom of the Heavens.
20 ദൈവവിഷയത്തിൽ നിങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള നീതിനിഷ്ഠ പരീശന്മാർക്കും വേദജ്ഞർക്കുമുള്ള നീതിനിഷ്ഠയിൽ കവിയുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങൾ നിശ്ചയമായും സ്വർഗരാജ്യത്തിൽ കടക്കുകയില്ല.
For I assure you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses that of the Scribes and the Pharisees, you will certainly not find entrance into the Kingdom of the Heavens.
21 “‘കൊലപാതകം ചെയ്യരുതെന്ന്’ പൂർവികരോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത് നിങ്ങൾ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ, ‘കൊലയാളി അതിന്റെ ശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിച്ചേ തീരൂ.’
"You have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not commit murder', and whoever commits murder will be answerable to the magistrate.
22 എന്നാൽ, ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: സഹോദരങ്ങളോട് കോപിക്കുന്നയാൾ ശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടിവരും. സഹോദരങ്ങളെ ‘മടയാ’ എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നയാൾ ന്യായാധിപസമിതിയോട് ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടിവരും; ‘ഗുണം വരാത്തവൻ’ എന്നു വിളിച്ചാൽ നരകാഗ്നിക്ക് വിധേയരാകും. (Geenna g1067)
But I say to you that every one who becomes angry with his brother shall be answerable to the magistrate; that whoever says to his brother 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the Sanhedrin; and that whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be liable to the Gehenna of Fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 “അതുകൊണ്ട്, നീ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ, യാഗാർപ്പണത്തിനായി വരുമ്പോൾ നിന്റെ സഹോദരനോ സഹോദരിക്കോ നിനക്ക് വിരോധമായി എന്തെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടെന്ന് ഓർമ വന്നാൽ
If therefore when you are offering your gift upon the altar, you remember that your brother has a grievance against you,
24 നിന്റെ അർപ്പണവസ്തു യാഗപീഠത്തിനുമുമ്പിൽ വെച്ചിട്ട് ആദ്യം ചെന്ന് അവരോടു രമ്യതപ്പെടുക; പിന്നീടു വന്നു നിന്റെ യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുക.
leave your gift there before the altar, and go and make friends with your brother first, and then return and proceed to offer your gift.
25 “നിന്നെ കോടതിയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന എതിർകക്ഷിയുമായി, വഴിയിൽവെച്ചുതന്നെ വേഗത്തിൽ രമ്യതയിലായിക്കൊള്ളുക. അല്ലാത്തപക്ഷം അയാൾ നിന്നെ ന്യായാധിപന് വിട്ടുകൊടുക്കുകയും ന്യായാധിപൻ നിയമപാലകന് കൈമാറുകയും അയാൾ നിന്നെ കാരാഗൃഹത്തിൽ അടയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.
Come to terms without delay with your opponent while you are yet with him on the way to the court; for fear he should obtain judgement from the magistrate against you, and the magistrate should give you in custody to the officer and you be thrown into prison.
26 അവസാനത്തെ നാണയവും കൊടുത്തുതീർക്കുന്നതുവരെ നീ അവിടെനിന്നു പുറത്തുവരികയില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ ഉറപ്പിച്ചു പറയുന്നു.
I solemnly tell you that you will certainly not be released till you have paid the very last farthing.
27 “‘വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യരുത്’ എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത് നിങ്ങൾ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery.'
28 എന്നാൽ, ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: ആസക്തിയോടെ ഒരു സ്ത്രീയെ നോക്കുന്നവൻ തന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ അവളുമായി വ്യഭിചാരംചെയ്തുകഴിഞ്ഞു.
But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.
29 നിന്റെ വലതുകണ്ണ് നിന്നെ പാപത്തിലേക്കു നയിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ അതു ചൂഴ്‌ന്നെടുത്ത് എറിഞ്ഞുകളയുക. നിന്റെ ശരീരംമുഴുവനും നരകത്തിൽ തള്ളപ്പെടുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ, ഒരു അവയവം നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതാണ് നിനക്കു നല്ലത്. (Geenna g1067)
If therefore your eye, even the right eye, is a snare to you, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should be thrown into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
30 നിന്റെ വലതുകൈ നിന്നെ പാപത്തിലേക്കു നയിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ അതു വെട്ടി ദൂരെ എറിഞ്ഞുകളയുക. നിന്റെ ശരീരംമുഴുവൻ നരകത്തിൽ പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ, ഒരു അവയവം നഷ്ടമാകുന്നതാണു നിനക്കു നല്ലത്. (Geenna g1067)
And if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should go into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
31 “‘ഭാര്യയെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നവൻ അവൾക്ക് ഒരു വിവാഹമോചനപത്രം കൊടുത്തിരിക്കണം’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
"It was also said, 'If any man puts away his wife, let him give her a written notice of divorce.'
32 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നത്, പാതിവ്രത്യലംഘനം നിമിത്തമല്ലാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും സ്വന്തം ഭാര്യയെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ അയാൾ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ വ്യഭിചാരിണിയാക്കുകയാണ്; ഉപേക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ട സ്ത്രീയെ വിവാഹംകഴിക്കുന്നവനും വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യുകയാണ്.
But I tell you that every man who puts away his wife except on the ground of unfaithfulness causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her when so divorced commits adultery.
33 “‘ശപഥംചെയ്തതു ലംഘിക്കരുതെന്നും കർത്താവിനോടുചെയ്ത ശപഥം നിറവേറ്റണമെന്നും’ പൂർവികരോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതു നിങ്ങൾ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
"Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt perform thy vows to the Lord.'
34 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു, ശപഥംചെയ്യുകയേ അരുത്; സ്വർഗത്തെക്കൊണ്ട് ശപഥംചെയ്യരുത്; അത് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സിംഹാസനം;
But I tell you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 ഭൂമിയെക്കൊണ്ടരുത്; അത് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പാദപീഠം. ജെറുശലേമിനെക്കൊണ്ടും അരുത്; അതു മഹാരാജാവിന്റെ നഗരം.
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool under His feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the City of the Great King.
36 നിങ്ങളുടെ തലയെക്കൊണ്ട് ശപഥംചെയ്യരുത്; കാരണം ഒരു മുടിയെങ്കിലും വെളുപ്പിക്കാനോ കറുപ്പിക്കാനോ നിങ്ങൾക്കു കഴിവില്ല.
And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
37 നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്ക് ‘അതേ’ ‘അതേ’ എന്നോ ‘ഇല്ല’ ‘ഇല്ല’ എന്നോ ആയിരിക്കട്ടെ. ഇതിൽ അധികമായതു പിശാചിൽനിന്ന് വരുന്നു.
But let your language be, 'Yes, yes,' or 'No, no.' Anything in excess of this comes from the Evil one.
38 “‘കണ്ണിനുപകരം കണ്ണ്, പല്ലിനുപകരം പല്ല്’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ളത് നിങ്ങൾ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.'
39 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നത് നിങ്ങളെ ദ്രോഹിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിയോട് പ്രതികരിക്കരുത്. ആരെങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളുടെ വലതുചെകിട്ടത്ത് അടിച്ചാൽ അയാൾക്ക് മറ്റേ ചെകിടും കാണിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുക.
But I tell you not to resist a wicked man, but if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well.
40 ആരെങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളുടെ ഉടുപ്പിനുവേണ്ടി കോടതിവ്യവഹാരം നടത്തിയാൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുറങ്കുപ്പായവുംകൂടെ അയാൾക്ക് വിട്ടുകൊടുക്കുക.
If any one wishes to go to law with you and to deprive you of your under garment, let him take your outer one also.
41 ഒരു പടയാളി ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരം തന്റെ സാമാനങ്ങൾ ചുമക്കാൻ നിങ്ങളെ നിർബന്ധിച്ചാൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം രണ്ട് കിലോമീറ്റർ പോകുക.
And whoever shall compel you to convey his goods one mile, go with him two.
42 നിന്നോട് എന്തെങ്കിലും ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്ന വ്യക്തിക്ക് അതു നൽകുക; വായ്പവാങ്ങാൻ ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിയിൽനിന്ന് ഒഴിഞ്ഞുമാറരുത്.
To him who asks, give: from him who would borrow, turn not away.
43 “‘അയൽവാസിയെ സ്നേഹിക്കണം എന്നും ശത്രുവിനെ വെറുക്കണം’ എന്നും കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതു നിങ്ങൾ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.'
44 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: നിങ്ങളുടെ ശത്രുക്കളെ സ്നേഹിക്കുക, നിങ്ങളെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവർക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രാർഥിക്കുക;
But I command you all, love your enemies, and pray for your persecutors;
45 അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്വർഗസ്ഥപിതാവിന്റെ മക്കൾ ആയിത്തീരും. അവിടന്നു ദുഷ്ടരുടെമേലും നല്ലവരുടെമേലും തന്റെ സൂര്യനെ ഉദിപ്പിക്കുകയും നീതി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവരുടെമേലും അനീതി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവരുടെമേലും മഴപെയ്യിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നല്ലോ.
that so you may become true sons of your Father in Heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the wicked as well as the good, and sends rain upon those who do right and those who do wrong.
46 നിങ്ങളെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവരെമാത്രം സ്നേഹിച്ചാൽ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എന്തു പ്രതിഫലമാണു ലഭിക്കുക? അങ്ങനെ നികുതിപിരിവുകാരും ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ടല്ലോ!
For if you love only those who love you, what reward have you earned? Do not even the tax-gatherers do that?
47 സ്വന്തം സഹോദരങ്ങളെമാത്രമാണ് നിങ്ങൾ അഭിവാദനംചെയ്യുന്നതെങ്കിൽ; പുകഴാൻ എന്തിരിക്കുന്നു? അങ്ങനെതന്നെയല്ലേ യെഹൂദേതരരും ചെയ്യുന്നത്?
And if you salute only your near relatives, what praise is due to you? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
48 അതുകൊണ്ട്, നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്വർഗസ്ഥപിതാവിന് സർവത്തിലും പരിപൂർണതയുള്ളതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളും സർവത്തിലും പരിപൂർണരാകുക.
You however are to be complete in goodness, as your Heavenly Father is complete.
