മത്തായി 3
1 ആ നാളുകളിൽ യോഹന്നാൻസ്നാപകൻ യെഹൂദ്യ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ എത്തി, “മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുക; സ്വർഗരാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.
NOW in those days came Juchanon the Baptizer preaching in the desert of Jehud,
and saying, Repent! the kingdom of heaven hath drawn nigh.
3 “‘കർത്താവിന്റെ വഴിയൊരുക്കുക; അവിടത്തേക്കുവേണ്ടി പാത നേരേയാക്കുക’ എന്ന് മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വിളംബരംചെയ്യുന്ന ശബ്ദം,” എന്ന് യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകൻ പ്രസ്താവിച്ചത് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചായിരുന്നു.
For this is he of whom it was spoken by Eshaia the prophet: The voice which crieth in the desert, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths plain.
4 യോഹന്നാൻ ഒട്ടകരോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള കുപ്പായവും തുകൽ അരപ്പട്ടയും ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു. വെട്ടുക്കിളിയും കാട്ടുതേനുമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഭക്ഷണം.
But this Juchanon, his clothing was of the hair of camels, with a loins-belt of leather upon his loins; and his food was locusts and wilderness-honey.
5 ജെറുശലേമിൽനിന്നും യെഹൂദ്യപ്രവിശ്യയിൽ എല്ലായിടത്തുനിന്നും യോർദാൻനദിയുടെ പരിസരപ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽനിന്നുമെല്ലാം ജനം യോഹന്നാന്റെ അടുക്കൽ എത്തി.
Then went forth to him Urishlem, and all Jehud, and the whole country about Jurdan;
6 തങ്ങളുടെ പാപങ്ങൾ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞവരെ അദ്ദേഹം യോർദാൻനദിയിൽ സ്നാനപ്പെടുത്തി.
and were baptized of him in Jurdan, the river, while they were confessing their sins.
7 എന്നാൽ, പരീശന്മാരും സദൂക്യരുമായ അനേകർ അദ്ദേഹം സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഇടത്തേക്കു വരുന്നതുകണ്ടിട്ട് അവരോട്, “അണലിക്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളേ! വരാൻപോകുന്ന ക്രോധത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒഴിഞ്ഞുമാറാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു മുന്നറിയിപ്പു തന്നതാരാണ്?” എന്നു വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു.
But when he saw many of the Pharishee and Zodukoyee coming to be baptized, he said to them, Generation of vipers, who hath showed you to escape from the wrath that cometh?
8 “മാനസാന്തരത്തിന് അനുയോജ്യമായ ഫലം പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുക.
Work, therefore, fruits which are suitable to repentance.
9 ‘ഞങ്ങൾക്കു പിതാവായി അബ്രാഹാം ഉണ്ട്’ എന്നു സ്വയം പുകഴാമെന്നു കരുതേണ്ട. ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: ഈ കല്ലുകളിൽനിന്ന് അബ്രാഹാമിനുവേണ്ടി മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കാൻ ദൈവത്തിനു കഴിയും.
Neither ruminate and say within yourselves, that Abraham is father to us; for I say to you that Aloha is able from these stones to raise up sons unto Abraham.
10 ഇപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ തായ്‌വേരിൽ കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; സത്ഫലം പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷങ്ങളെല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയിൽ എറിഞ്ഞുകളയും.
But, behold, the axe lieth at the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, which maketh not good fruit is cut down and falleth into the fire.
11 “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു നൽകുന്ന ജലസ്നാനം നിങ്ങൾ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെട്ടു എന്നതിന്റെ പ്രതീകമാണ്. എന്നാൽ, എന്നെക്കാൾ ശക്തനായ ഒരാൾ എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു; അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറഴിക്കുന്ന ഒരു അടിമയാകാൻപോലും എനിക്കു യോഗ്യതയില്ല. അദ്ദേഹം നിങ്ങൾക്ക് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടും അഗ്നികൊണ്ടും സ്നാനം നൽകും.
I, indeed, baptize you with water unto repentance; but He who cometh after me is mightier than I; he, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear, -he baptizeth you with the Spirit of Holiness and with fire.
12 വീശുമുറം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഉണ്ട്; അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ മെതിക്കളം പൂർണമായി വെടിപ്പാക്കിയശേഷം ഗോതമ്പും പതിരും വേർതിരിച്ച്, ഗോതമ്പ് കളപ്പുരയിൽ ശേഖരിക്കുകയും പതിർ കെടാത്ത തീയിൽ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളയുകയും ചെയ്യും.”
He (it is) whose fan is in his hand, and, purifying his floors, the wheat he gathereth into his garner, but the chaff he burneth with the fire that is not quenched.
13 ഈ സമയത്ത് യോഹന്നാനാൽ സ്നാനം സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നതിന് യേശു ഗലീലാപ്രവിശ്യയിൽനിന്ന് യോർദാൻനദിയിലേക്ക് വന്നു.
Then came Jeshu from Galila unto Jurdan to Juchanan to be baptized of him.
14 എന്നാൽ, യോഹന്നാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പിന്തിരിപ്പിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു, “അങ്ങയിൽനിന്ന് സ്നാനം സ്വീകരിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് എന്റെ അഭിലാഷം, എന്നിട്ടും അങ്ങ് എന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കാണല്ലോ വരുന്നത്?”
But Juchanon prohibited him, and said, I need from thee to be baptized, and hast thou come unto me?
15 അതിന് യേശു, “ഇപ്പോൾ ഇതിന് സമ്മതിക്കുക; ഇങ്ങനെ സർവനീതിയും നാം പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുന്നത് ഉചിതമാണല്ലോ” എന്നു പ്രതിവചിച്ചു; അപ്പോൾ യോഹന്നാൻ സമ്മതിച്ചു.
But Jeshu answered and said unto him, Permit now; for thus it becometh us to accomplish all righteousness. And then he permitted him.
16 യേശു സ്നാനമേറ്റ് വെള്ളത്തിൽനിന്ന് കയറി; ആ നിമിഷത്തിൽത്തന്നെ സ്വർഗം തുറക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ദൈവാത്മാവ് ഒരു പ്രാവിനെപ്പോലെ തന്റെമേൽ പറന്നിറങ്ങുന്നത് അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടു.
But when Jeshu was baptized, he immediately ascended from the waters; and the heaven was opened unto him; and he saw the Spirit of Aloha, who descended, like the dove, and came upon him.
17 “ഞാൻ പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന എന്റെ പ്രിയപുത്രൻ ഇവൻതന്നെ,” എന്നു സ്വർഗത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു അശരീരിയും ഉണ്ടായി.
And, lo, the voice from heaven, which said, This (is) my Son, the Beloved, in whom I have delighted.
