ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ 8

1 എന്നാൽ എഫ്രയീമ്യർ ഗിദെയോനോട് ചോദിച്ചു: “നീ ഞങ്ങളോട് എന്താണിങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തത്? നീ മിദ്യാന്യരോട് യുദ്ധത്തിനു പോയപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങളെ വിളിക്കാഞ്ഞതെന്ത്?” അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നിശിതമായി വിമർശിച്ചു.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, What is this thing that thou hast done unto us, not to call for us, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they quarrelled with him vehemently.

2 അദ്ദേഹം അവരോട്, “നിങ്ങൾ നേടിയതിനോടു തുലനംചെയ്താൽ ഞാൻ ഈ ചെയ്തത് എത്ര നിസ്സാരം! അബിയേസെരിന്റെ മുന്തിരിക്കൊയ്ത്തിനെക്കാൾ എഫ്രയീമിന്റെ കാലാപെറുക്കുകയല്ലയോ നല്ലത്?

And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi'ezer?

3 ദൈവം മിദ്യാന്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരായ ഓരേബിനെയും സേബിനെയും ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുതന്നത് നിങ്ങളുടെ കരങ്ങളിലല്ലയോ? നിങ്ങളോട് താരതമ്യംചെയ്താൽ എന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു സാധിച്ചത് എത്ര നിസ്സാരം!” ഈ മറുപടിയിൽ അവർക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടുള്ള കോപം ശമിച്ചു.

Into your hand God delivered the princes of Midian, 'Oreb and Zeeb: and what have I been able to do in comparison with you? Then was their anger abated from him, when he had spoken this speech.

4 ഗിദെയോനും കൂടെയുള്ള മുന്നൂറുപേരും ക്ഷീണിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ശത്രുക്കളെ പിൻതുടർന്നുകൊണ്ട് അവർ യോർദാന്റെ അക്കരെ കടന്നു.

And Gid'on came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, and in pursuit.

5 അദ്ദേഹം സൂക്കോത്ത് നിവാസികളോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “എന്റെ കൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യത്തിന് അൽപ്പം ഭക്ഷണം കൊടുക്കണമേ. അവർ ക്ഷീണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഞാൻ മിദ്യാന്യ രാജാക്കന്മാരായ സേബഹിനെയും സൽമുന്നയെയും പിൻതുടരുകയാണ്.”

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, a few loaves of bread unto the people that are in my train; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebach and Zalmunna,' the kings of Midian.

6 എന്നാൽ സൂക്കോത്തിലെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ ചോദിച്ചു: “സേബഹിന്റെയും സൽമുന്നയുടെയും കൈകൾ നിന്റെ കൈവശമായിക്കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ? അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ സൈന്യത്തിന് ഭക്ഷണം കൊടുക്കേണ്ട കാര്യമെന്ത്?”

And the princes of Succoth said, Is the sole of the foot of Zebach and Zalmunna' now already in thy hand, that we should give unto thy army bread?

7 അപ്പോൾ ഗിദെയോൻ: “ആകട്ടെ; സേബഹിനെയും സൽമുന്നയെയും യഹോവ എന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചശേഷം ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ മാംസം മരുഭൂമിയിലെ മുള്ളുകൊണ്ടും പറക്കാരകൊണ്ടും കീറിമുറിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Gid'on said, Therefore when the Lord hath delivered Zebach and Zalmunna' into my hand, then will I thresh your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

8 അവിടെനിന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പെനീയേലിലേക്ക് പോയി. അവരോടും അദ്ദേഹം ഭക്ഷണത്തിനായി അപേക്ഷിച്ചു. സൂക്കോത്ത് നിവാസികൾ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെതന്നെ പെനീയേൽ നിവാസികളും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spoke unto them in the same manner: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

9 അദ്ദേഹം പെനീയേൽ നിവാസികളോട്, “ഞാൻ സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവരുമ്പോൾ ഈ ഗോപുരം ഇടിച്ചുകളയും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And he said also unto the men of Penuel thus, When I return again in peace, I will break down this tower.

10 സേബഹും സൽമുന്നയും അവരോടുകൂടെ കിഴക്കു ദേശക്കാരുടെ സൈന്യത്തിൽ ശേഷിച്ചിരുന്ന ഏകദേശം പതിനയ്യായിരം പേരും കർക്കോരിൽ ആയിരുന്നു; പടയാളികളിൽ ഒരുലക്ഷത്തി ഇരുപതിനായിരം പേർ വധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.

Now Zebach and Zalmunna' were in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that had been left of all the camp of the children of the east; but those who had fallen were one hundred and twenty thousand men that drew the sword.

11 ഗിദെയോൻ നോബഹിനും യൊഗ്ബെഹെക്കും കിഴക്കുള്ള ദേശാന്തരികളുടെ വഴിയായി ചെന്ന് യുദ്ധം പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാതിരുന്ന ആ സൈന്യത്തെ തോൽപ്പിച്ചു.

And Gid'on went up by the way of those that dwelt in tents, to the east of Nobach and Yogbehah, and smote the camp; but the camp thought itself secure.

12 മിദ്യാന്യ രാജാക്കന്മാരായിരുന്ന സേബഹും സൽമുന്നയും ഓടിപ്പോയി. ഗിദെയോൻ അവരെ പിൻതുടർന്നുപിടിച്ചു. സൈന്യത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ചിതറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

And Zebach and Zalmunna' fled; but he pursued after them, and captured the two kings of Midian, Zebach and Zalmunna', and all the camp he discomfited.

13 യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ ഗിദെയോൻ യുദ്ധംകഴിഞ്ഞ് ഹേരെസ് ചുരംവഴി മടങ്ങി.

And Gid'on the son of Joash returned from the battle before the rising of the sun,

14 വഴിയിൽ അദ്ദേഹം സൂക്കോത്ത് നിവാസികളിൽ ഒരു യുവാവിനെ പിടിച്ച് അവനെ ചോദ്യംചെയ്തു. അവൻ സൂക്കോത്തിലെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും പട്ടണത്തലവന്മാരുമായ എഴുപത്തേഴ് ആളുകളുടെ പേര് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് എഴുതിക്കൊടുത്തു.

And he caught a young man of the people of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he wrote down for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy and seven men.

15 പിന്നെ ഗിദെയോൻ സൂക്കോത്ത് നിവാസിളുടെ അടുക്കൽവന്ന്, “‘സേബഹിന്റെയും സൽമുന്നയുടെയും കൈകൾ നീ കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തിക്കഴിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ?’ അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ തളർന്നിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ സൈന്യത്തിന് ഭക്ഷണം കൊടുക്കേണ്ട കാര്യം എന്തെന്നു നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ ധിക്കരിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞ സേബഹും സൽമുന്നയും ഇതാ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold here are Zebach and Zalmunna', with whom ye derided me, saying, Is the sole of the foot of Zebach and Zalmunna' now already in thy hand, that we should give unto thy weary men bread?

16 അവർ പട്ടണത്തലവന്മാരെ പിടിച്ച് കാട്ടിലെ മുള്ളും പറക്കാരയുംകൊണ്ട് ശിക്ഷിച്ച് സൂക്കോത്ത് നിവാസികളെ ഒരു പാഠം പഠിപ്പിച്ചു.

And he took the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness and briers, and chastised with them the men of Succoth.

17 അതിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം പെനീയേലിലെ ഗോപുരം ഇടിച്ച് പട്ടണനിവാസികളെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

And the tower of Penuel he beat down, and slew the men of the city.

18 പിന്നെ ഗിദെയോൻ സേബഹിനോടും സൽമുന്നയോടും: “നിങ്ങൾ താബോരിൽവെച്ചു വധിച്ച പുരുഷന്മാർ എങ്ങനെയുള്ളവരായിരുന്നു” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. “അവർ താങ്കളെപ്പോലെയുള്ളവർ; ഓരോരുത്തനും രാജകുമാരനു തുല്യർ ആയിരുന്നു,” എന്ന് അവർ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And he said unto Zebach and Zalmunna', What kind of men were those whom ye slew at Tabor! And they answered, As thou art, so were they; one was in form like that of the children of a king.

19 അതിനു ഗിദെയോൻ: “അവർ എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാർ ആയിരുന്നു; എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ. നിങ്ങൾ അവരെ ജീവനോടെ ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ, ജീവനുള്ള യഹോവയാണെ, ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ലായിരുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And he said, They were my brothers, the sons of my mother; as the Lord liveth, if ye had spared them alive, I would not slay you.

20 പിന്നെ അയാൾ തന്റെ ആദ്യജാതനായ യേഥെരിനോട്, “അവരെ കൊല്ലുക!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാൽ യേഥെർ നന്നേ ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടും ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടും വാൾ ഊരിയില്ല.

And he said unto Yether his first-born, Rise up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword; for he was afraid, because he was yet a youth.

21 അപ്പോൾ സേബഹും സൽമുന്നയും, “താങ്കൾതന്നെ അതു ചെയ്യുക; ‘ആളിനെ കാണുന്നതുപോലുള്ള ബലമല്ലേ അയാൾക്കുള്ളൂ’” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ഗിദെയോൻ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അവരെ കൊന്നു; അവരുടെ ഒട്ടകങ്ങളുടെ കഴുത്തിലെ ആഭരണങ്ങൾ എടുത്തു.

Then said Zebach and Zalmunna', Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gid'on arose, and slew Zebach and Zalmunna'; and he took away the crescent ornaments that were on the necks of their camels.

22 ഇസ്രായേല്യർ ഗിദെയോനോട്: “താങ്കൾ ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുക, അങ്ങനെതന്നെ താങ്കളുടെ മകനും താങ്കളുടെ പൗത്രനും—മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ കൈയിൽനിന്നു താങ്കൾ ഞങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ചല്ലോ!”

And the men of Israel said unto Gid'on, Rule thou over us, both thou and thy son, and thy son's son also; for thou hast delivered us out of the hand of Midian.

23 എന്നാൽ ഗിദെയോൻ അവരോട്; “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുകയില്ല; എന്റെ മകനും ഭരിക്കുകയില്ല. യഹോവ നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Gid'on said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you.

24 പിന്നെ ഗിദെയോൻ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “എനിക്ക് ഒരു അപേക്ഷയേയുള്ളൂ; കൊള്ളയിൽ കിട്ടിയ കർണാഭരണങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങൾ ഓരോരുത്തരും എനിക്കു നൽകണം.” (അവർ യിശ്മായേല്യർ ആയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് സ്വർണംകൊണ്ടുള്ള കർണാഭരണം ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു.)

And Gid'on said unto them, I would ask one request of you, that ye should give me every man the earring of his booty; for they had had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.

25 “ഞങ്ങൾ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ തരാം,” അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. ഒരു വസ്ത്രം വിരിച്ച് ഓരോരുത്തന് കൊള്ളയിൽ കിട്ടിയ ഓരോ സ്വർണക്കടുക്കൻ അതിലിട്ടു.

And they answered, We will willingly give. And they spread out a garment, and they cast therein every man the earring of his booty.

26 അവൻ ചോദിച്ചുവാങ്ങിയ സ്വർണക്കടുക്കന്റെ തൂക്കം ആയിരത്തിയെഴുനൂറു ശേക്കേൽ ആയിരുന്നു; വസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെ എണ്ണം എടുത്തിരുന്നില്ല. ഇതു കൂടാതെ ആഭരണങ്ങളും കുണ്ഡലങ്ങളും മിദ്യാന്യ രാജാക്കന്മാർ ധരിച്ചിരുന്ന ഊതവർണ വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും അവരുടെ ഒട്ടകങ്ങളുടെ കഴുത്തിലെ മാലകളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

And the weight of the golden earrings that he had requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; besides the crescent ornaments, and ear-drops, and purple garments that were on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels' necks.

27 ഗിദെയോൻ ആ സ്വർണംകൊണ്ട് ഒരു ഏഫോദ് ഉണ്ടാക്കി തന്റെ പട്ടണമായ ഒഫ്രയിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു; ഇസ്രായേലെല്ലാം അതിനെ ആരാധിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പരസംഗംചെയ്തു. അതു ഗിദെയോനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിനും ഒരു കെണിയായിത്തീർന്നു.

And Gid'on made thereof an ephod, and set it up in his city, in 'Ophrah: and all Israel went astray after it thither; and it became a snare unto Gid'on, and to his house.

28 മിദ്യാൻ ഇസ്രായേൽജനത്തിനു കീഴടങ്ങി, പിന്നെ തലപൊക്കിയതുമില്ല, ഗിദെയോന്റെ ജീവിതകാലത്തു നാൽപ്പതുവർഷം ദേശത്തു സ്വസ്ഥതയുണ്ടായി.

And Midian was humbled before the children of Israel, so that they lifted not up their head any more. And the country was quiet forty years in the days of Gid'on.

29 യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ യെരൂ-ബാൽ തന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു.

And Yerubba'al the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

30 ഗിദെയോന് നിരവധി ഭാര്യമാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. സ്വന്തം മക്കളായിട്ടുതന്നെ എഴുപതു പുത്രന്മാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

And Gid'on had seventy sons begotten of his body; for he had many wives.

31 ശേഖേമിലുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിനൊരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. അബീമെലെക്ക് എന്ന് അവനു പേരിട്ടു.

And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bore him a son, and he gave him the name, Abimelech.

32 യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ ഗിദെയോൻ നല്ല വാർധക്യത്തിൽ മരിച്ചു; അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അബിയേസ്രിയർക്കുള്ള ഒഫ്രയിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിതാവായ യോവാശിന്റെ കല്ലറയിൽ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.

And Gid'on the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in 'Ophrah of the Abi'ezrites.

33 ഗിദെയോൻ മരിച്ചയുടനെ, ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ വീണ്ടും ബാൽവിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ വണങ്ങുന്നതിലൂടെ പരസംഗംചെയ്തു. ബാൽ-ബെരീത്തിനെ തങ്ങളുടെ ദേവനായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.

And it came to pass, when Gid'on was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went astray after the Be'alim, and made themselves Ba'al-berith for a god.

34 ചുറ്റുമുള്ള സകലശത്രുക്കളുടെയും കൈയിൽനിന്നു തങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ച തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ അവർ ഓർത്തില്ല.

And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side.

35 ഗിദെയോൻ എന്ന യെരൂ-ബാൽ ഇസ്രായേലിനു ചെയ്ത സകലനന്മയ്ക്കും തക്കവണ്ണം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോട് അവർ കരുണ കാണിച്ചതുമില്ല.

Neither showed they kindness to the house of Yerubba'al, namely, Gid'on, in accordance with all the good which he had done unto Israel.
