ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ 1
1 യോശുവയുടെ മരണശേഷം, “തങ്ങളിൽ ആരാകുന്നു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്യാൻ ആദ്യം പുറപ്പെടേണ്ടത്” എന്ന് ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first to fight against them?
2 “യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെടട്ടെ; ഞാൻ ശേഷിക്കുന്ന ഭൂപ്രദേശം അവരുടെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാർ തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ശിമെയോന്യഗോത്രത്തോട്, “ഞങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശഭൂമിയിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്ന കനാന്യരോട് യുദ്ധംചെയ്യുന്നതിന് ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരണമേ. അതിനുപകരമായി നിങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശഭൂമി കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനു നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഞങ്ങളും വരാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശിമെയോന്യർ അവരോടുകൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.
And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദാ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു, യഹോവ കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും അവരുടെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു; അവർ ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ച് അവരിൽ പതിനായിരംപേരെ കൊന്നു.
And Judah went up, and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ച് അവർ അദോനീ-ബേസെക്കിനെ എതിരിട്ടു, അവനെതിരേ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും തോൽപ്പിച്ചു.
And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 അദോനീ-ബേസെക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോയി; എന്നാൽ അവർ അവനെ പിൻതുടർന്നുപിടിച്ചു, അവന്റെ കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 അപ്പോൾ അദോനീ-ബേസെക്ക് പറഞ്ഞു: “കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ച എഴുപതു രാജാക്കന്മാർ എന്റെ മേശയുടെ കീഴിൽനിന്ന് പെറുക്കിത്തിന്നിരുന്നു; ഞാൻ ചെയ്തതുപോലെതന്നെ ദൈവം എനിക്കുപകരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.” അവർ അവനെ ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവിടെവെച്ച് അവൻ മരിച്ചു.
And Adoni-bezek said, seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their food] under my table; as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാർ ജെറുശലേമിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു, അതും കീഴടക്കി; അതിലെ നിവാസികളെ വാളിനിരയാക്കി നഗരം തീവെച്ചു.
(Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.)
9 അതിനുശേഷം യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ മലനാട്ടിലും തെക്കേദേശത്തും പടിഞ്ഞാറ് കുന്നിൻപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt on the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10 യെഹൂദാ ഹെബ്രോനിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടും യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു—ഹെബ്രോന് പണ്ടു കിര്യത്ത്-അർബാ എന്നായിരുന്നു പേര്—അവർ ശേശായി, അഹീമാൻ, തൽമായി എന്നിവരെ തോൽപ്പിച്ചു.
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before [was] Kirjath-arba: ) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 അവിടെനിന്ന് അവർ, ദെബീർനിവാസികൾക്കെതിരേയുള്ള യുദ്ധത്തിൽ മുന്നേറി. ദെബീറിന്റെ പഴയപേർ കിര്യത്ത്-സേഫെർ എന്നായിരുന്നു.
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before [was] Kirjath-sepher:
12 അപ്പോൾ കാലേബ്, “കിര്യത്ത്-സേഫെർ ആക്രമിച്ചു കീഴടക്കുന്നവന് ഞാൻ എന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ വിവാഹംചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter for a wife.
13 കാലേബിന്റെ അനുജനായ കെനസിന്റെ മകൻ ഒത്നിയേൽ അതു കീഴടക്കി; കാലേബ് തന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ അവനു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife.
14 അക്സ ഒത്നിയേലിനെ വിവാഹംകഴിച്ച ദിവസം, തന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ഒരു വയൽ ചോദിക്കാൻ അവൾ ഒത്നിയേലിനെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചു; അവൾ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തുനിന്നിറങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ കാലേബ് അവളോട്, “നിനക്കു ഞാൻ എന്തു ചെയ്തുതരണം?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
And it came to pass, when she came [to him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off [her] ass; and Caleb said to her, What wilt thou?
15 അവൾ മറുപടിയായി: “ഒരു അനുഗ്രഹംകൂടി എനിക്കു തരണമേ; അങ്ങ് എനിക്കു തെക്കേദേശമാണല്ലോ തന്നിരിക്കുന്നത്. നീരുറവകളുംകൂടി എനിക്കു തരേണമെ” എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ട് കാലേബ് അവൾക്കു മലകളിലും താഴ്വരകളിലും നീരുറവകൾ കൊടുത്തു.
And she said to him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.
16 മോശയുടെ അമ്മായിയപ്പന്റെ പിൻഗാമികളായ കേന്യർ യെഹൂദാമക്കളോടുകൂടെ ഈന്തപ്പന നഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് അതായത്, യെരീഹോനഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് തെക്കേദേശത്ത് അരാദിനു സമീപമുള്ള യെഹൂദാ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പോയി; അവിടെയുള്ള ജനത്തോടുകൂടെ താമസിച്ചു.
And the children of the Kenite, Moses's father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which [lieth] in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17 പിന്നെ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോന്യപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടെ സെഫാത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു; അവരെ നിശ്ശേഷം നശിപ്പിച്ചു; ആ നഗരത്തിനു ഹോർമാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ, ഗസ്സാ, അസ്കലോൻ, എക്രോൻ എന്നീ പട്ടണങ്ങളും അതിന്റെ അതിരിനോടു ചേർന്നുള്ള ദേശങ്ങളും പിടിച്ചടക്കി.
Also Judah took Gaza with its border, and Askelon with its border, and Ekron with its border.
19 യഹോവ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവർ മലനാടു കൈവശമാക്കി; എന്നാൽ താഴ്വരയിലെ നിവാസികൾക്ക് ഇരുമ്പുരഥങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
And the LORD was with Judah; and he drove out [the inhabitants of] the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 മോശ വാഗ്ദത്തം ചെയ്തിരുന്നതുപോലെ അവർ കാലേബിനു ഹെബ്രോൻ കൊടുത്തു; അദ്ദേഹം അവിടെനിന്ന് അനാക്കിന്റെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
21 ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രം ജെറുശലേമിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന യെബൂസ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; യെബൂസ്യർ ഇന്നും ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടുകൂടെ ജെറുശലേമിൽ താമസിച്ചുവരുന്നു.
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
22 യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗോത്രങ്ങൾ ബേഥേലിനെതിരേ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. യഹോവ അവരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el: and the LORD [was] with them.
23 അവർ ബേഥേലിൽ ചാരപ്രവർത്തകരെ അയച്ചു—ബേഥേലിനു മുമ്പ് ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരായിരുന്നു.
And the house of Joseph sent to explore Beth-el. Now the name of the city before [was] Luz.
24 പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്ന ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ ചാരപ്രവർത്തകർ കണ്ടു. അവർ അവനോട്, “പട്ടണത്തിൽ കടക്കാൻ ഒരു വഴി കാണിച്ചുതരണം; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നോടു ദയ ചെയ്യും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will show thee mercy.
25 അവൻ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴി അവർക്കു കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവർ പട്ടണനിവാസികളെ മുഴുവനും വാളിനിരയാക്കി. ആ മനുഷ്യനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സകലകുടുംബത്തെയും രക്ഷിച്ചു.
And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword: but they let go the man and all his family.
26 ഇതിനുശേഷം ആ മനുഷ്യൻ ഹിത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തുചെന്ന് ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു. അതിനു ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; ഇന്നും ആ പേരിൽ അത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name of it Luz: which [is] its name to this day.
27 എന്നാൽ ബേത്-ശയാൻ, താനാക്ക്, ദോർ, യിബ്ലെയാം, മെഗിദ്ദോ എന്നീ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും അവയുടെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ മനശ്ശെഗോത്രം നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല. കനാന്യർക്ക് ആ ദേശത്തുതന്നെ തുടരാനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹം അങ്ങനെ സാധിച്ചു.
Neither did Manasseh expel [the inhabitants of] Beth-shean and its towns, nor Tanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 എന്നാൽ ഇസ്രായേല്യർ ശക്തരായിത്തീർന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ കനാന്യരെ മുഴുവൻ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു കഠിനവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു.
And it came to pass when Israel was strong, that they subjected the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly expel them.
29 എഫ്രയീംഗോത്രം ഗേസെരിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യർ അവിടെ അവരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു.
Neither did Ephraim expel the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 സെബൂലൂൻഗോത്രം കിത്രോനിലും നഹലോലിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; അവർ സെബൂലൂൻഗോത്രത്തിന് അടിമവേലചെയ്ത് അവരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു.
Neither did Zebulun expel the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 ആശേർഗോത്രം അക്കോവിലും സീദോനിലും അഹ്ലാബിലും അക്സീബിലും ഹെൽബയിലും അഫേക്കിലും രെഹോബിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല.
Neither did Asher expel the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32 ആശേർഗോത്രത്തിലുള്ളർ അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെതന്നെ ആ ദേശവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു.
But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not expel them.
33 നഫ്താലിഗോത്രം ബേത്-ശേമെശിലും ബേത്-അനാത്തിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ആ ദേശവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയിടയിൽ താമസിച്ചു; എന്നാൽ ബേത്-ശേമെശിലെയും ബേത്-അനാത്തിലെയും നിവാസികൾ അവർക്ക് നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരായിത്തീർന്നു.
Neither did Naphtali expel the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries to them.
34 അമോര്യർ ദാൻഗോത്രത്തിലുള്ളവരെ മലനാട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ പാർക്കാൻ നിർബന്ധിതരാക്കി. താഴ്വരയിലേക്കിറങ്ങാൻ അവരെ സമ്മതിച്ചുമില്ല.
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan to the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35 അങ്ങനെ അമോര്യർക്കു ഹേരെസുമലയിലും അയ്യാലോനിലും ശാൽബീമിലും താമസിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹം സാധിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗോത്രങ്ങൾ ശക്തരായിത്തീർന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ അവരെയും നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരാക്കിത്തീർത്തു.
But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Ajalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36 അമോര്യരുടെ അതിര് അക്രബീം ചുരംമുതൽ സേലാവരെയും അതിനുമുകളിലേക്കുമായിരുന്നു.
And the border of the Amorites [was] from the ascent to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
