യോഹന്നാൻ 1
1 ആദിയിൽ വചനം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വചനം ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പം ആയിരുന്നു; വചനം ദൈവം ആയിരുന്നു.
In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God.
2 അവിടന്ന് ആരംഭത്തിൽ ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
He was in the beginning with God.
3 അവിടന്നാണ് സർവത്തിന്റെയും അസ്തിത്വകാരണം; സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടവയിൽ, അവിടത്തെക്കൂടാതെ യാതൊന്നും സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടില്ല.
All things were made by him, and without him not one thing was made that now exists.
4 അവിടന്നായിരുന്നു ജീവന്റെ ഉറവിടം; ഈ ജീവൻ ആയിരുന്നു മനുഷ്യകുലത്തിന്റെ പ്രകാശം.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 പ്രകാശം അന്ധകാരത്തിൽ പ്രശോഭിക്കുന്നു; അന്ധകാരം അതിന്മേൽ പ്രബലമായതുമില്ല.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness comprehends it not.
6 യോഹന്നാൻ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ ദൈവം അയച്ചു.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 അദ്ദേഹം വന്നത്, പ്രകാശത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് സാക്ഷ്യം പറയാനും സർവരും ആ സാക്ഷ്യത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കേണ്ടതിനുമാണ്.
This man came as a witness, to testify of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8 അദ്ദേഹം പ്രകാശം ആയിരുന്നില്ല; പിന്നെയോ പ്രകാശത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് സാക്ഷ്യംവഹിക്കുകമാത്രമായിരുന്നു.
He was not the Light; but he came to testify of the Light.
9 ഏതു മനുഷ്യനെയും പ്രകാശപൂരിതമാക്കുന്ന യഥാർഥ പ്രകാശം ലോകത്തിലേക്കു വരികയായിരുന്നു.
He was the true Light, which, coming into the world, gives light to every man.
10 അവിടന്നു ലോകത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ലോകം അസ്തിത്വത്തിൽ വന്നത് അവിടന്ന് മുഖാന്തിരമായിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ലോകം അവിടത്തെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞില്ല.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 അവിടന്നു സ്വജനത്തിന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് വന്നു; എന്നാൽ സ്വജനമോ അവിടത്തെ അംഗീകരിച്ചില്ല.
He came to his own country, and his own people received him not.
12 എന്നാൽ അവിടത്തെ സ്വീകരിച്ച് അവിടത്തെ നാമത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മക്കളാകാൻ അവിടന്ന് അധികാരംനൽകി.
But as many as received him, to them he gave the privilege of becoming the children of God, even to those who believe on his name;
13 അവർ സ്വാഭാവികരീതിയിലോ ശാരീരിക അഭിലാഷത്താലോ പുരുഷന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരമോ അല്ല, ദൈവത്തിൽനിന്നത്രേ ജനിച്ചത്.
who were begotten, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 വചനം മനുഷ്യനായി നമ്മുടെ മധ്യേ വസിച്ചു. അവിടത്തെ തേജസ്സ്, പിതാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് കൃപയും സത്യവും നിറഞ്ഞവനായി വന്ന നിസ്തുലപുത്രന്റെ തേജസ്സുതന്നെ, ഞങ്ങൾ ദർശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
And the WORD became flesh, and tabernacled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and of truth.
15 യോഹന്നാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു സാക്ഷ്യംവഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഇപ്രകാരം പ്രഘോഷിച്ചു: “‘എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നയാൾ എനിക്കുമുമ്പേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് എന്നെക്കാൾ ശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ,’ എന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞത് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചായിരുന്നു.”
John testified of him, and cried, saying: This is he of whom I said: He that comes after me, is now before me, for he existed before me.
16 അവിടത്തെ പരിപൂർണതയിൽനിന്ന് നമുക്കെല്ലാവർക്കും കൃപമേൽ കൃപ ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
And from his fullness have we all received, even grace for grace;
17 ന്യായപ്രമാണം മോശമുഖേന നൽകപ്പെട്ടെങ്കിൽ കൃപയും സത്യവും യേശുക്രിസ്തുമുഖേനയാണ് ലഭ്യമായത്.
for the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 ദൈവത്തെ ആരും ഒരിക്കലും കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല; പിതാവുമായി അഭേദ്യബന്ധം പുലർത്തുന്ന നിസ്തുലപുത്രനായ ദൈവംതന്നെ അവിടത്തെ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has revealed him.
19 യോഹന്നാൻ ആരാകുന്നു എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടുതന്നെ ചോദിക്കാൻ, ജെറുശലേമിൽനിന്ന് യെഹൂദനേതാക്കന്മാർ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ലേവ്യരെയും, അയച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ യോഹന്നാന്റെ സാക്ഷ്യം ഇപ്രകാരമായിരുന്നു:
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him: Who are you?
20 “ഞാൻ ക്രിസ്തു അല്ല.” ഒട്ടും മടിക്കാതെയാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അക്കാര്യം ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞത്.
And he confessed, and did not deny; and he confessed: I am not the Christ.
21 “പിന്നെ താങ്കൾ ആരാണ്? ഏലിയാവോ?” അവർ ചോദിച്ചു. “ഞാനല്ല.” അദ്ദേഹം പ്രതിവചിച്ചു. “താങ്കൾ ആ പ്രവാചകനാണോ?” “അല്ല,” അദ്ദേഹം മറുപടി നൽകി.
And they asked him: What then? Are you Elijah? And he said: I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered: No.
22 “എങ്കിൽ താങ്കൾ ആരാണ്? ഞങ്ങളെ അയച്ചവരെ അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്, ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒരു മറുപടി തരിക. താങ്കൾക്ക് താങ്കളെക്കുറിച്ചുതന്നെ എന്താണ് പറയാനുള്ളത്?” എന്ന് അവർ ചോദിച്ചു.
They then said to him: Who are you? that we may give an answer to those who sent us; what say you of yourself?
23 യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകൻ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ, “‘കർത്താവിനുവേണ്ടി പാത നേരേയാക്കുക,’ എന്നു മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വിളംബരംചെയ്യുന്ന ശബ്ദം ഞാൻ ആകുന്നു” എന്ന് യോഹന്നാൻ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord; as said the prophet Isaiah.
24 അയയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടവരിൽ പരീശപക്ഷത്തുനിന്നുള്ളവർ
And those who were sent were of the Pharisees;
25 യോഹന്നാനോട്, “താങ്കൾ ക്രിസ്തുവോ ഏലിയാവോ ആ പ്രവാചകനോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പിന്നെ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് എന്തിനാണ്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
and they asked him, and said to him: Why, then, do you immerse, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
26 “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ജലസ്നാനം നൽകുന്നു; എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ തിരിച്ചറിയാത്ത ഒരാൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ മധ്യേ നിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
John answered them, saying: I immerse in water; but there stands one among you whom you know not.
27 അദ്ദേഹം എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു; അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറഴിക്കുന്ന ഒരു അടിമയാകാൻപോലും എനിക്കു യോഗ്യതയില്ല” എന്ന് യോഹന്നാൻ അവരോടു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
He it is, who, though he comes after me, is now before me; the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.
28 ഈ സംഭാഷണമെല്ലാം, യോർദാന്റെ മറുകരയിലുള്ള ബെഥാന്യയിലാണു സംഭവിച്ചത്, അവിടെയായിരുന്നു യോഹന്നാൻ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നത്.
These things were done in Bethany, beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing.
29 അടുത്തദിവസം തന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു വരുന്ന യേശുവിനെ കണ്ടിട്ട് യോഹന്നാൻ പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇതാ, ലോകത്തിന്റെ പാപം പരിഹരിക്കുന്ന ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞാട്!
The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said: Behold the Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world.
30 ‘എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്ന മനുഷ്യൻ എനിക്കുമുമ്പേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് എന്നെക്കാൾ ശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ,’ എന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞത് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചായിരുന്നു.
This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who is now before me, for he existed before me.
31 ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഞാൻ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ, ഇദ്ദേഹം ഇസ്രായേലിനു വെളിപ്പെടേണ്ടതിനാണ് ഞാൻ വെള്ളത്തിൽ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നവനായി വന്നത്.”
And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, for this reason I have come immersing in water.
32 യോഹന്നാൻ തന്റെ സാക്ഷ്യം തുടർന്നു: “പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് ഒരു പ്രാവിനെപ്പോലെ സ്വർഗത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്നതും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെമേൽ ആവസിക്കുന്നതും ഞാൻ കണ്ടു.
And John testified, saying: I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.
33 അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഞാൻ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല; എന്നാൽ, വെള്ളത്തിൽ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കാൻ ദൈവം എന്നെ അയച്ചിട്ട്, ‘ആരുടെമേൽ ആത്മാവ് അവരോഹണം ചെയ്യുകയും നിവസിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് നീ കാണുന്നോ അദ്ദേഹമാണ് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാൽ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്,’ എന്ന് എന്നോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
And I knew him not; but he that sent me to immerse in water, said to me, On whom you shall see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is he that immerses in the Holy Spirit.
34 അതു ഞാൻ യേശുവിൽ കാണുകയും അദ്ദേഹം ദൈവപുത്രനാണെന്നു സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.”
And I saw, and do testify that this is the Son of God.
35 പിറ്റേദിവസം യോഹന്നാൻ തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരിൽ രണ്ടുപേരുമായി വീണ്ടും അവിടെ നിൽക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
Again the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples.
36 അപ്പോൾ, യേശു പോകുന്നതു നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ട്, “ഇതാ, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞാട്!” എന്നു വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു.
And looking on Jesus as he walked, he said: Behold the Lamb of God.
37 യോഹന്നാൻ ഇതു പറയുന്നതു കേട്ട ആ രണ്ടുശിഷ്യന്മാർ യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിച്ചു.
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 യേശു പിറകോട്ടു തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ തന്നെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നവരെ കണ്ടു. അവിടന്ന് അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു, “എന്താണ് നിങ്ങൾ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നത്?” അവർ, “ഗുരോ,” എന്ന് അർഥമുള്ള “റബ്ബീ,” എന്ന് അഭിസംബോധന ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട്, “അങ്ങ് എവിടെ താമസിക്കുന്നു?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
And Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them:
39 “വന്നു കാണുക,” അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ അദ്ദേഹം താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന സ്ഥലം വന്നു കണ്ടു. അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഉച്ചകഴിഞ്ഞ് ഏകദേശം നാലുമണിയായിരുന്നു. അന്ന് അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടുകൂടെ താമസിച്ചു.
What do you seek? They said to him: Rabbi, (which, when translated, is called Teacher, ) where abidest thou?
40 യോഹന്നാന്റെ സാക്ഷ്യംകേട്ട് യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിച്ച രണ്ടുപേരിൽ ഒരാൾ ശിമോൻ പത്രോസിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അന്ത്രയോസ് ആയിരുന്നു.
He said to them: Come and see. They went and saw where he abode; and they remained with him that day; for it was about the tenth hour.
41 അന്ത്രയോസ് ആദ്യംതന്നെ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമോനെ കണ്ട്, “ഞങ്ങൾ മശിഹായെ, അതായത്, ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
One of the two that heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter.
42 അയാൾ ശിമോനെ യേശുവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു. യേശു അയാളെ നോക്കി, “നീ യോഹന്നാന്റെ മകനായ ശിമോൻ ആകുന്നു. നിനക്കു കേഫാ എന്നു പേരാകും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. (ഇതിന്റെ പരിഭാഷ പത്രോസ് എന്നാകുന്നു.)
He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him: We have found the Messiah; (which, when translated, is the Christ; )
43 പിറ്റേദിവസം യേശു ഗലീലയ്ക്കു പോകാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം ഫിലിപ്പൊസിനെ കണ്ട്, “എന്നെ അനുഗമിക്കുക,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
and he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking on him, said: You are Simon, the son of Jonah; you shall be called Cephas (which, when translated, is Rock).
44 ഫിലിപ്പൊസ്, അന്ത്രയോസിനെയും പത്രോസിനെയുംപോലെതന്നെ ബേത്ത്സയിദ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നുള്ളവൻതന്നെ ആയിരുന്നു.
The day following, Jesus wished to go into Galilee; and he found Philip, and said to him: Follow me.
45 ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് നഥനയേലിനെ കണ്ട് അയാളോട്, “മോശ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിലും പ്രവാചകന്മാർ അവരുടെ ലിഖിതങ്ങളിലും ആരെക്കുറിച്ച് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നോ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഞങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു—അത് നസറെത്തുകാരനായ യോസേഫിന്റെ പുത്രൻ യേശുതന്നെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Now, Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
46 അപ്പോൾ നഥനയേൽ ചോദിച്ചു, “നസറെത്തുകാരനോ! അവിടെനിന്നു വല്ല നന്മയും വരുമോ.” “വന്നു കാണുക,” ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് പറഞ്ഞു.
Philip found Nathaniel, and said to him: We have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
47 തന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു വരുന്ന നഥനയേലിനെ കണ്ടിട്ട് യേശു പറഞ്ഞു, “ഇതാ, ഒരു യഥാർഥ ഇസ്രായേല്യൻ; ഇയാളിൽ യാതൊരു കാപട്യവും ഇല്ല.”
And Nathaniel said to him: Can any thing good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him: Come and see.
48 “അവിടത്തേക്ക് എന്നെ എങ്ങനെ അറിയാം?” നഥനയേൽ ചോദിച്ചു. “ഫിലിപ്പൊസ് നിന്നെ വിളിക്കുന്നതിനുമുമ്പ്, നീ അത്തിമരത്തിന്റെ ചുവട്ടിലിരിക്കുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ ഞാൻ നിന്നെ കണ്ടു,” യേശു പറഞ്ഞു.
Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and said of him: Be hold, an Israelite in truth, in whom there is no guile.
49 “റബ്ബീ, അങ്ങു ദൈവപുത്രൻ; അങ്ങാണ് ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജാവ്,” നഥനയേൽ പ്രതിവചിച്ചു.
Nathaniel said to him: How knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him: Before Philip called you, while you were under the fig-tree, I saw you.
50 “നീ അത്തിമരത്തിന്റെ ചുവട്ടിലിരിക്കുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ ഞാൻ നിന്നെ കണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു നീ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. അതിലും വലിയ കാര്യങ്ങൾ നീ കാണും” എന്ന് യേശു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
Nathaniel answered and said to him: Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
51 തുടർന്ന് യേശു, “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് സത്യം സത്യമായി പറയട്ടെ: ‘സ്വർഗം തുറന്നിരിക്കുന്നതും’ മനുഷ്യപുത്രന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ‘ദൈവദൂതന്മാർ കയറുന്നതും ഇറങ്ങുന്നതും’ നിങ്ങൾ കാണും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Jesus answered and said to him: Do you believe, because I said to you, I saw you under the fig-tree? You shall see greater things than these. And he said to him: Verily, verily I say to you, From this time you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
