യോഹന്നാൻ 4
1 യേശു യോഹന്നാനെക്കാൾ അധികം ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ ചേർത്തു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് പരീശന്മാർ കേട്ടു—
Accordingly when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard it said, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John,"
2 വാസ്തവത്തിൽ യേശു അല്ല, അവിടത്തെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരാണു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നത്—
(though Jesus himself was not accustomed to baptize, but his disciples),
3 ഇതറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം യെഹൂദ്യ വിട്ടു വീണ്ടും ഗലീലയിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി.
he left Judea and returned to Galilee.
4 ഇപ്രാവശ്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു ശമര്യയിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.
Now he had to pass through Samaria;
5 അങ്ങനെ അവിടന്നു ശമര്യയിൽ, യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പുത്രനായ യോസേഫിനു നൽകിയ സ്ഥലത്തിനു സമീപമുള്ള സുഖാർ പട്ടണത്തിൽ എത്തി.
so he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the piece of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 അവിടെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ കിണർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. യാത്രാക്ഷീണത്താൽ യേശു കിണറ്റിനരികെ ഇരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം മധ്യാഹ്നമായിരുന്നു.
Jacob’s Spring was there. So Jesus, tired out with his journey, was sitting thus by the spring.
7 ഒരു ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ വെള്ളം കോരാൻ അവിടെ എത്തി; യേശു അവളോട്, “എനിക്കു കുടിക്കാൻ തരുമോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
It was about noon, and a woman of Samaria came to draw water.
8 (ശിഷ്യന്മാർ ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങൾ വാങ്ങാൻ പട്ടണത്തിൽ പോയിരുന്നു.)
Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink" (for his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.)
9 ശമര്യസ്ത്രീ ചോദിച്ചു, “അങ്ങ് ഒരു യെഹൂദനും ഞാൻ ഒരു ശമര്യസ്ത്രീയുമായിരിക്കെ, അങ്ങ് എന്നോടു കുടിക്കാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നത് എങ്ങനെ?” (കാരണം, യെഹൂദർക്കു ശമര്യരുമായി സമ്പർക്കമില്ല.)
"How is it," answered the Samaritan woman, "that you who are a Jew ask a drink from me, a woman, and a Samaritan?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10 “ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനം എന്തെന്നും നിന്നോടു കുടിക്കാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നത് ആരെന്നും അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ നീ അയാളോടു ചോദിക്കുകയും അയാൾ ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം നിനക്കു തരികയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു” എന്ന് യേശു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
"If you had known the free gift of God," Jesus answered, "and who it is that says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water."
11 ആ സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞു, “യജമാനനേ, കോരിയെടുക്കാൻ അങ്ങയുടെ കൈവശം പാത്രം ഇല്ലല്ലോ, കിണറ് ആഴമുള്ളതുമാണ്. പിന്നെ ജീവനുള്ള വെള്ളം അങ്ങേക്ക് എവിടെനിന്നു ലഭിക്കും?
"Sir," said the woman, "you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; whence have you that living water?
12 അങ്ങ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവായ യാക്കോബിനെക്കാൾ വലിയവനാണോ? അദ്ദേഹമാണ് ഈ കിണറു ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തന്നത്. അദ്ദേഹവും പുത്രന്മാരും ആടുമാടുകളും എല്ലാം ഇതിൽനിന്നാണ് വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചിരുന്നത്.”
Surely you are not greater than our Father Jacob, who gave us the well, and used to drink from it himself, and his sons, and his cattle, too?"
13 “ഈ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നവർക്കെല്ലാം പിന്നെയും ദാഹിക്കും;
"All who drink of this water," Jesus answered, "will thirst again;
15 അപ്പോൾ സ്ത്രീ, “പ്രഭോ, എങ്കിൽ എനിക്കിനി ദാഹിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്ന് ആ വെള്ളം തന്നാലും; വെള്ളം കോരാൻ ഞാൻ ഇവിടെ വരേണ്ട ആവശ്യവും ഇല്ലാതാകും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"Sir!" exclaimed the woman, "give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty, nor come all this way to draw water."
16 യേശു അവളോട്: “പോയി നിന്റെ ഭർത്താവിനെ വിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരിക.”
Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and then come here."
17 “എനിക്കു ഭർത്താവില്ല,” അവൾ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു. “നിനക്കു ഭർത്താവില്ല എന്നു നീ പറയുന്നതു ശരി.
"I have no husband," answered the woman. "You are right in saying ‘I have no husband,’"Jesus said to her,
18 വാസ്തവത്തിൽ, നിനക്ക് അഞ്ചു ഭർത്താക്കന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ ഉള്ള പുരുഷൻ നിന്റെ ഭർത്താവല്ല; അതിനാൽ നീ പറഞ്ഞതു ശരിതന്നെ.” എന്ന് യേശു അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
"for you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband; in this you have spoken truly."
19 “പ്രഭോ, അങ്ങ് ഒരു പ്രവാചകൻ എന്നു ഞാൻ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു,” സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞു.
"I see, Sir, that you are a prophet," replied the woman.
20 “ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ ഈ മലയിലാണ് ആരാധിച്ചുവന്നത്. എന്നാൽ, ആരാധനയ്ക്കുള്ള സ്ഥലം ജെറുശലേം ആണെന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ യെഹൂദർ അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നല്ലോ?”
"Our forefathers worshiped in this mountain, yet you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship."
21 അതിനു മറുപടിയായി യേശു ആ സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞത്, “സ്ത്രീയേ, എന്നെ വിശ്വസിക്കുക; നിങ്ങൾ പിതാവിനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത് ഈ മലയിലോ ജെറുശലേമിലോ അല്ല എന്നുള്ള സമയം വരുന്നു.
"Woman, believe me," said Jesus, "that the hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 ശമര്യരായ നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് അജ്ഞാതമായതിനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ഞങ്ങളോ, അറിയുന്നതിനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. രക്ഷ യെഹൂദരിൽനിന്നല്ലോ വരുന്നത്.
You are worshiping something you do not know. we know what we worship, for salvation comes from the Jews.
23 എന്നാൽ, സത്യാരാധകർ ദൈവത്തെ സത്യത്തിലും ആത്മാവിലും ആരാധിക്കുന്ന സമയം വരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോൾ വന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള ആരാധകരെയാണ് പിതാവ് അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നത്.
But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father is seeking such as his worshipers.
24 ദൈവം ആത്മാവാകുന്നു. ദൈവത്തെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നവർ ആത്മാവിലും സത്യത്തിലും ആരാധിക്കണം,” എന്നായിരുന്നു.
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
25 അപ്പോൾ ആ സ്ത്രീ, “മശിഹാ അഥവാ, ക്രിസ്തു വരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നു. അവിടന്നു വരുമ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു സകലതും വിശദീകരിച്ചുതരും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"I know," said the woman, "that Messiah is coming, who is called the Christ; when he has come he will tell us everything."
26 ഇതേത്തുടർന്ന് യേശു, “നിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഞാൻതന്നെ മശിഹാ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Jesus said to her, "I who am now talking to you, am he."
27 ഈ സമയത്ത് ശിഷ്യന്മാർ മടങ്ങിയെത്തി. അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതുകണ്ട് അവർ ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു. എങ്കിലും “അങ്ങ് എന്തു ചോദിക്കുന്നുവെന്നോ, അവളോട് എന്തിനു സംസാരിക്കുന്നുവെന്നോ?” ആരും ചോദിച്ചില്ല.
Just then his disciples came up, and were astonished that he was talking with a woman; yet not one of them asked him, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?"
28 ആ സ്ത്രീ വെള്ളപ്പാത്രം അവിടെ വെച്ചിട്ടു പട്ടണത്തിൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്ന് അവിടെയുള്ള ജനങ്ങളോട്,
Then the woman left her water-jar, and went away into the city and began saying to the people.
29 “ഞാൻ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള എല്ലാക്കാര്യങ്ങളും എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ വന്നു കാണുക. ഒരുപക്ഷേ അദ്ദേഹം ക്രിസ്തു ആയിരിക്കുമോ?” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"Come! see a man who has told me everything that I ever did. He can’t be the Christ, can he?"
30 അവർ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്ന് യേശുവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്നു.
They left the city and set out to go to him.
31 ഇതിനിടയിൽ ശിഷ്യന്മാർ, “റബ്ബീ, ആഹാരം കഴിച്ചാലും” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നിർബന്ധിച്ചു.
Meanwhile the disciples kept urging him.
32 എന്നാൽ, “നിങ്ങൾ അറിയാത്ത ആഹാരം എനിക്കുണ്ട്!” എന്ന് യേശു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
"Rabbi," they said, "eat something." But he answered, "I have food to eat of which you know nothing."
33 “ആരെങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ആഹാരം കൊണ്ടുവന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുമോ,” എന്നു ശിഷ്യന്മാർ പരസ്പരം പറഞ്ഞു.
So the disciples began to say to one another, "Can any one have brought him something to eat?"
34 അപ്പോൾ യേശു പറഞ്ഞത്: “എന്നെ അയച്ചവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം ചെയ്ത് അവിടത്തെ പ്രവൃത്തി നിറവേറ്റുന്നതാണ് എന്റെ ആഹാരം.
Jesus said to them. "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
35 ‘ഇനി നാലുമാസം കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ കൊയ്ത്തിനു സമയമാകും,’ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നില്ലേ? എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ കണ്ണുതുറന്നു വയലുകളിലേക്കു നോക്കുക. അവ വിളഞ്ഞു പാകമായിരിക്കുന്നു.
Do you not say, ‘It wants yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you! Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, that they are already white for harvest.
36 ഇപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ കൊയ്ത്തുകാരൻ കൂലി വാങ്ങുകയും നിത്യജീവനിലേക്കു വിളവു ശേഖരിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ വിതയ്ക്കുന്നവനും കൊയ്യുന്നവനും ഒരുപോലെ ആനന്ദിക്കും. (aiōnios g166)
The reaper is already receiving wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 ‘ഒരുവൻ വിതയ്ക്കുന്നു, മറ്റൊരുവൻ കൊയ്യുന്നു,’ എന്നുള്ള പഴഞ്ചൊല്ല് ഇക്കാര്യത്തിൽ യാഥാർഥ്യമാകുന്നു:
For in this respect the saying is true, ‘One sows, another reaps.’
38 നിങ്ങൾ അധ്വാനിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്തതു കൊയ്യാൻ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ അയച്ചു. മറ്റുള്ളവർ കഠിനാധ്വാനംചെയ്തു, അവരുടെ അധ്വാനത്തിന്റെ ഫലം നിങ്ങൾ അനുഭവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”
I sent you to reap a crop on which you have not toiled. Others have toiled, and you have reaped the benefit of their toil."
39 “ഞാൻ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള എല്ലാക്കാര്യങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹം എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു,” എന്ന് ആ സ്ത്രീയുടെ സാക്ഷ്യംനിമിത്തം ആ പട്ടണത്തിലുള്ള ശമര്യരിൽ പലരും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിച്ചു.
Many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman when she declared, "He told me everything that I ever did."
40 തങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വന്നു താമസിക്കണമെന്ന് ആ ശമര്യർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു. രണ്ട് ദിവസം യേശു അവരോടുകൂടെ താമസിച്ചു.
So when the Samaritans arrived, they began asking him to remain with them; and he stayed there two days.
41 അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വചനം കേട്ട് പിന്നെയും ധാരാളംപേർ വിശ്വാസികളായിത്തീർന്നു.
Then many more believed because of what he said, himself; and they told the woman.
42 അവർ അപ്പോൾ ആ സ്ത്രീയോട്, “നീ പറഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടുമാത്രമല്ല ഇനി ഞങ്ങൾ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നത്; ഞങ്ങൾതന്നെ കേൾക്കുകയും കാണുകയുംചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇദ്ദേഹമാണ് സാക്ഷാൽ ലോകരക്ഷിതാവ്.”
"We no longer believe because of what you said. for we ourselves have heard him, and we know that this is certainly the Saviour of the world."
43 രണ്ട് ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞ് യേശു ഗലീലയ്ക്കു യാത്രയായി.
After these two days Jesus went away from there into Galilee.
44 —ഒരു പ്രവാചകനും സ്വദേശത്തു മാനിക്കപ്പെടുന്നില്ലെന്ന് യേശുതന്നെ പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു—
For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
45 ഗലീലയിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ആ ദേശവാസികൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സ്വാഗതംചെയ്തു. പെസഹാപ്പെരുന്നാളിന് അവരും പോയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് യേശു ജെറുശലേമിൽ ചെയ്തതെല്ലാം അവർ കണ്ടിരുന്നു.
When he reached Galilee, however, the Galileans welcomed him, for they had seen all that he did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they, too, had been at the feast.
46 താൻ വെള്ളം വീഞ്ഞാക്കിയ ഗലീലയിലെ കാനാവിൽ അദ്ദേഹം വീണ്ടും വന്നു. കഫാർനഹൂമിലെ ഒരു രാജഭൃത്യന്റെ മകൻ രോഗിയായി കിടപ്പിലായിരുന്നു.
So he came back again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. Now there was one of the king’s officers whose son was lying ill at Capernaum.
47 യേശു യെഹൂദ്യയിൽനിന്ന് ഗലീലയിൽ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നു കേട്ട് ആ മനുഷ്യൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽച്ചെന്ന്, അദ്ദേഹം വന്ന് തന്റെ മരിക്കാറായിക്കിടക്കുന്ന മകനെ സൗഖ്യമാക്കണമെന്ന് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him to come down and heal his son who was lying at the point of death.
48 യേശു അപ്പോൾ, “അടയാളങ്ങളും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും കണ്ടിട്ടല്ലാതെ നിങ്ങൾ ഒരിക്കലും വിശ്വസിക്കുകയില്ല.” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you all see signs and wonders, you will not believe."
49 രാജസേവകൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്, “പ്രഭോ, എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു മരിക്കുന്നതിനുമുമ്പു വരണമേ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"Sir," said the king’s officer, "come down before my little boy dies."
50 യേശു അയാളോട്, “പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ, നിന്റെ മകൻ ജീവിക്കും” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു. ആ മനുഷ്യൻ യേശുവിന്റെ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിച്ച് അവിടെനിന്ന് പോയി.
Jesus answered. "Go your way. Your son lives." And the man believed the word which Jesus spoke to him, and started to go home.
51 അയാൾ പൊയ്ക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ, മകൻ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന വാർത്തയുമായി ദാസന്മാർ അയാളെ എതിരേറ്റു.
And when he was already on his way down, his slaves met him, saying that his boy was living.
52 മകനു സൗഖ്യം ലഭിച്ചത് എപ്പോഴെന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്, “ഇന്നലെ ഉച്ചകഴിഞ്ഞ് ഒരുമണിക്ക് പനി അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി” എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.
So he asked them at what hour he had begun mend. They answered, "Yesterday, about one o’clock, the fever left him."
53 “നിന്റെ മകൻ ജീവിക്കും,” എന്ന് യേശു പറഞ്ഞ സമയം അതുതന്നെ ആയിരുന്നെന്ന് ആ പിതാവ് ഓർമിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ അയാളും ഭവനത്തിലുള്ളവരെല്ലാവരും വിശ്വസിച്ചു.
Then the father realized that it had left him at the very hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son lives," and he himself believed, and his whole household.
54 യെഹൂദ്യയിൽനിന്ന് ഗലീലയിൽ വന്നതിനുശേഷം യേശു ചെയ്ത രണ്ടാമത്തെ അത്ഭുതചിഹ്നമായിരുന്നു അത്.
This is the second sign which Jesus performed, on returning from Judea to Galilee.
