ഉല്പത്തി 47

1 യോസേഫ് ചെന്നു ഫറവോനോട്, “എന്റെ പിതാവും സഹോദരന്മാരും തങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകളും സകലസ്വത്തുക്കളുമായി കനാൻദേശത്തുനിന്നു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; അവർ ഇപ്പോൾ ഗോശെനിലുണ്ട്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Joseph came and told Pharao, [saying], My father, and my brethren, and their cattle, and their oxen, and all their possessions, are come out of the land of Chanaan, and behold, they are in the land of Gesem.

2 അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരിൽ അഞ്ചുപേരെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു ഫറവോന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നിർത്തി.

And he took of his brethren five men, and set them before Pharao.

3 ഫറവോൻ യോസേഫിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോട്, “നിങ്ങളുടെ തൊഴിൽ എന്താണ്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന് അവർ, “അടിയങ്ങളും അടിയങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ ഇടയന്മാരാണ്” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And Pharao said to the brethren of Joseph, What is your occupation? and they said to Pharao, Thy servants are shepherds, both we and our father.

4 അവർ തുടർന്നു, “ഞങ്ങൾ കുറച്ചുകാലത്തേക്ക് ഇവിടെ താമസിക്കാൻ വന്നതാണ്; കനാനിൽ ക്ഷാമം അതികഠിനമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അടിയങ്ങളുടെ ആട്ടിൻപറ്റങ്ങൾക്കു മേച്ചിലില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് ദയവുതോന്നി അടിയങ്ങളെ ഗോശെനിൽ താമസിക്കാൻ അനുവദിക്കുമാറാകണം.”

And they said to Pharao, We are come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for the flocks of thy servants, for the famine has prevailed in the land of Chanaan; now then, we will dwell in the land of Gesem. And Pharao said to Joseph, Let them dwell in the land of Gesem; and if thou knowest that there are among them able men, make them overseers of my cattle. So Jacob and his sons came into Egypt, to Joseph; and Pharao, king of Egypt, heard [of it].

5 ഫറവോൻ യോസേഫിനോട്, “നിന്റെ പിതാവും നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു,

And Pharao spoke to Joseph, saying, Thy father, and thy brethren, are come to thee.

6 ഈജിപ്റ്റുദേശം നിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. നിന്റെ പിതാവിനെയും സഹോദരന്മാരെയും ദേശത്തിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ലഭാഗത്തു താമസിപ്പിക്കുക. അവർ ഗോശെനിൽ താമസിക്കട്ടെ. അവരിൽ പ്രാപ്തന്മാരായവരെ എന്റെ ആടുമാടുകളുടെ ചുമതല ഏൽപ്പിക്കുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Behold, the land of Egypt is before thee; settle thy father and thy brethren in the best land.

7 തുടർന്ന് യോസേഫ് തന്റെ പിതാവായ യാക്കോബിനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഫറവോന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നിർത്തി. യാക്കോബ് ഫറവോനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharao; and Jacob blessed Pharao.

8 അതിനുശേഷം ഫറവോൻ യാക്കോബിനോട്, “അങ്ങേക്ക് എത്ര വയസ്സായി?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And Pharao said to Jacob, How many are the years of the days of thy life?

9 യാക്കോബ് ഫറവോനോട്, “എന്റെ പരദേശപ്രയാണത്തിന്റെ വർഷങ്ങൾ നൂറ്റിമുപ്പതായിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്റെ വർഷങ്ങൾ ചുരുക്കവും പ്രയാസകരവുമാണ്; അവ എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ പരദേശപ്രയാണവർഷങ്ങളോളം ആയിട്ടുമില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Jacob said to Pharao, The days of the years of my life, wherein I sojourn, are a hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, they have not attained to the days of the life of my fathers, in which days they sojourned.

10 പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് ഫറവോനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽനിന്ന് പോയി.

And Jacob blessed Pharao, and departed from him.

11 യോസേഫ് തന്റെ പിതാവിനെയും സഹോദരന്മാരെയും ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ താമസിപ്പിച്ചു; ഫറവോൻ നിർദേശിച്ചപ്രകാരം നാടിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല പ്രദേശമായ രമെസേസ് ജില്ലയിൽ അവർക്കു ഭൂമി നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തു.

And Joseph settled his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best land, in the land of Ramesses, as Pharao commanded.

12 യോസേഫ് തന്റെ പിതാവിനും സഹോദരന്മാർക്കും പിതാവിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട എല്ലാവർക്കും അവരുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണമനുസരിച്ച് ആഹാരം നൽകി.

And Joseph gave provision to his father, and his brethren, and to all the house of his father, corn for each person.

13 ക്ഷാമം അതിരൂക്ഷമാകുകയാൽ ആ പ്രദേശത്തെങ്ങും ഭക്ഷണമില്ലാതായി; ഈജിപ്റ്റും കനാനും ക്ഷാമംനിമിത്തം ക്ഷയിച്ചു.

And there was no corn in all the land, for the famine prevailed greatly; and the land of Egypt, and the land of Chanaan, fainted for the famine.

14 ഈജിപ്റ്റിലും കനാനിലും ഉള്ളവർ തങ്ങൾ വാങ്ങിയ ധാന്യത്തിന്റെ വിലയായി കൊടുത്ത പണം മുഴുവൻ യോസേഫ് ശേഖരിച്ച് ഫറവോന്റെ കൊട്ടാരത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

And Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and the land of Chanaan, [in return for] the corn which they bought, and he distributed corn to them; and Joseph brought all the money into the house of Pharao.

15 ഈജിപ്റ്റിലും കനാനിലും ഉള്ള ജനങ്ങളുടെ പണം തീർന്നപ്പോൾ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലുള്ളവർ എല്ലാംകൂടി യോസേഫിന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്ന്, “ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ഭക്ഷണം തരണം, അങ്ങയുടെ കണ്മുമ്പിൽവെച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ മരിക്കുന്നതെന്തിന്? ഞങ്ങളുടെ പണം തീർന്നുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And all the money failed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Chanaan; and all the Egyptians came to Joseph, saying, Give us bread, and why do we die in thy presence? for our money is spent.

16 “എങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകളെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക. നിങ്ങളുടെ പണം തീർന്നുപോയിരിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകളെ വിലയായി വാങ്ങി അവയ്ക്കുപകരം ഭക്ഷണം തരാം,” എന്നു യോസേഫ് പറഞ്ഞു.

And Joseph said to them, Bring your cattle, and I will give you bread for your cattle, if your money is spent.

17 അങ്ങനെ അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകളെ യോസേഫിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം അവരുടെ കുതിരകൾക്കും ചെമ്മരിയാടുകൾക്കും കോലാടുകൾക്കും കന്നുകാലികൾക്കും കഴുതകൾക്കും പകരം അവർക്കു ഭക്ഷണം നൽകി. അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം അവരുടെ ആടുമാടുകൾക്കു പകരമായി ഭക്ഷണം കൊടുത്ത് അവരെ ആ വർഷം പരിപാലിച്ചു.

And they brought their cattle to Joseph; and Joseph gave them bread in return for their horses, and for their sheep, and for their oxen, and for their asses; and Joseph maintained them with bread for all their cattle in that year.

18 അങ്ങനെ ആ വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞു; അവർ പിറ്റേവർഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നിട്ട് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞങ്ങളുടെ പണം തീർന്നുപോകുകയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ ആടുമാടുകൾ അങ്ങയുടെ വകയായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങളുടെ ശരീരവും ഭൂമിയും അല്ലാതെ യജമാനനു തരാൻ മറ്റൊന്നുമില്ല. ഈ വസ്തുത യജമാനനിൽനിന്ന് മറച്ചുവെക്കാൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു നിവൃത്തിയില്ല.

And that year passed, and they came to him in the second year, and said to him, Must we then be consumed from before our lord? for if our money has failed, and our possessions, and our cattle, [brought] to thee our lord, and there has not been left to us before our lord more than our own bodies and our land, [we are indeed destitute].

19 ആഹാരത്തിനു പകരമായി ഞങ്ങളെയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഭൂമിയെയും വാങ്ങിക്കൊള്ളുക. ഞങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഭൂമിയോടുകൂടെ ഫറവോന്റെ അടിമകളായിക്കൊള്ളാം. ഞങ്ങൾ മരിച്ചുപോകാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിനും ഭൂമി ശൂന്യമായിപ്പോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിനും അങ്ങു ഞങ്ങൾക്കു വിത്തു തരണം.”

In order, then, that we die not before thee, and the land be made desolate, buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharao: give seed that we may sow, and live and not die, so our land shall not be made desolate.

20 യോസേഫ് ഈജിപ്റ്റിലുള്ള സർവഭൂമിയും ഫറവോനുവേണ്ടി വിലയ്ക്കുവാങ്ങി. ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാർ ഒന്നടങ്കം തങ്ങളുടെ വയലുകൾ വിറ്റു; ക്ഷാമം അവർക്കു താങ്ങാവുന്നതിലും അധികം കഠിനമായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ഭൂമിയെല്ലാം ഫറവോന്റേതായിത്തീർന്നു.

And Joseph bought all the land of the Egyptians, for Pharao; for the Egyptians sold their land to Pharao; for the famine prevailed against them, and the land became Pharao's.

21 അങ്ങനെ യോസേഫ് ഈജിപ്റ്റിന്റെ ഒരറ്റംമുതൽ മറ്റേ അറ്റംവരെയുള്ള സകല ആളുകളെയും അടിമകളാക്കി.

And he brought the people into bondage to him, for servants, from one extremity of Egypt to the other,

22 എന്നാൽ പുരോഹിതന്മാർക്കു ഫറവോന്റെ പക്കൽനിന്ന് ക്രമമായി ഓഹരി ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടും ഫറവോൻ കൊടുത്ത ഓഹരിയിൽനിന്ന് അവർക്കു വേണ്ടുന്നത്ര ആഹാരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടും യോസേഫ് അവരുടെ ഭൂമി വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങിയില്ല. അക്കാരണത്താലാണ് അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ ഭൂമി വിൽക്കാതിരുന്നത്.

except only the land of the priests; Joseph bought not this, for Pharao gave a portion in the way of gift to the priests; and they ate their portion which Pharao gave them; therefore they sold not their land.

23 യോസേഫ് ജനങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ നിലങ്ങളെയും ഫറവോനുവേണ്ടി വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങിയിരിക്കുകയാൽ നിങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള വിത്ത് ഇതാ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു നിലത്തു കൃഷി ചെയ്യാമല്ലോ.

And Joseph said to all the Egyptians, Behold, I have bought you and your land this day for Pharao; take seed for you, and sow the land.

24 എന്നാൽ വിളവുണ്ടാകുമ്പോൾ അതിന്റെ അഞ്ചിലൊന്നു ഫറവോനു കൊടുക്കണം. ശേഷിക്കുന്ന അഞ്ചിൽ നാലുഭാഗം വയലുകൾക്കുള്ള വിത്തായും നിങ്ങൾക്കും വീട്ടിലുള്ളവർക്കും നിങ്ങളുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്കുമുള്ള ആഹാരമായും സൂക്ഷിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.”

And there shall be the fruits of it; and ye shall give the fifth part to Pharao, and the four [remaining] parts shall be for yourselves, for seed for the earth, and for food for you, and all that are in your houses.

25 “അങ്ങു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവൻ രക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു,” അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. “യജമാനൻ ഞങ്ങളോടു കരുണ കാണിച്ചാലും; ഞങ്ങൾ ഫറവോന് അടിമകളായിരുന്നുകൊള്ളാം.”

And they said, Thou hast saved us; we have found favour before our lord, and we will be servants to Pharao.

26 വിളവിന്റെ അഞ്ചിലൊന്ന് ഫറവോനുള്ളത് എന്ന ഭൂനിയമം യോസേഫ് ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമാക്കി. അത് ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെമാത്രം ഭൂമി ഫറവോന് അധീനമാകാതിരുന്നു.

And Joseph appointed it to them for an ordinance until this day; to reserve a fifth part for Pharao, on the land of Egypt, except only the land of the priests, that was not Pharao's.

27 ഇസ്രായേല്യർ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലെ ഗോശെൻ പ്രദേശത്തു സ്ഥിരതാമസമാക്കി. അവിടെ അവർ വസ്തുക്കൾ സമ്പാദിക്കുകയും ഫലപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവരായി എണ്ണത്തിൽ വർധിച്ചുവരികയും ചെയ്തു.

And Israel dwelt in Egypt, in the land of Gesem, and they gained an inheritance upon it; and they increased and multiplied very greatly.

28 യാക്കോബ് ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ പതിനേഴുവർഷം ജീവിച്ചു; അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആയുസ്സ് നൂറ്റിനാൽപ്പത്തിയേഴു വർഷമായിരുന്നു.

And Jacob survived seventeen years in the land of Egypt; and Jacob's days of the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven years.

29 ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ മരണസമയം ആസന്നമായപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ പുത്രനായ യോസേഫിനെ ആളയച്ചുവരുത്തി, അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്, “നിനക്ക് എന്നോടു പ്രീതിയുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ, നിന്റെ കൈ എന്റെ തുടയിൻകീഴിൽ വെക്കുകയും എന്നോടു കരുണയും വിശ്വസ്തതയും പുലർത്തുമെന്നു വാക്കു തരികയും വേണം. എന്നെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ അടക്കരുത്;

and the days of Israel drew nigh for him to die: and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, If I have found favour before thee, put thy hand under my thigh, and thou shalt execute mercy and truth toward me, so as not to bury me in Egypt.

30 പിന്നെയോ, ഞാൻ എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടൊപ്പം നിദ്ര പ്രാപിക്കുമ്പോൾ എന്നെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി അവരെ അടക്കിയ സ്ഥലത്തുതന്നെ അടക്കണം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. “അങ്ങു പറയുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാൻ ചെയ്യാം,” അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

But I will sleep with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me up out of Egypt, and bury me in their sepulchre. And he said, I will do according to thy word.

31 “എന്നോടു ശപഥംചെയ്യുക,” അദ്ദേഹം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. അപ്പോൾ യോസേഫ് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു ശപഥംചെയ്തു; ഇസ്രായേൽ തന്റെ വടിയുടെ തലയ്ക്കൽ ഊന്നിനിന്നു.

And he said, Swear to me; and he swore to him. And Israel did reverence, leaning on the top of his staff.
