ഉല്പത്തി 34

1 യാക്കോബിനു ലേയാ പ്രസവിച്ച മകളായ ദീനാ ആ നാട്ടിലെ യുവതികളെ സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ ഇറങ്ങിത്തിരിച്ചു.

Then Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare vnto Iaakob, went out to see the daughters of that countrey.

2 ദേശത്തെ ഭരണാധികാരിയും ഹിവ്യനായ ഹാമോരിന്റെ മകനുമായ ശേഖേം അവളെ കണ്ടു; അവൻ അവളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയി അവളുമായി കിടക്കപങ്കിട്ടു; അവളെ മാനഭംഗപ്പെടുത്തി.

Whome when Shechem the sonne of Hamor the Hiuite lorde of that countrey sawe, hee tooke her, and lay with her, and defiled her.

3 അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം യാക്കോബിന്റെ മകളായ ദീനായിലേക്ക് ആകർഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; അവൻ ആ പെൺകുട്ടിയെ സ്നേഹിക്കുകയും അവളോട് ആർദ്രമായി സംസാരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

So his heart claue vnto Dinah the daughter of Iaakob: and he loued the maide, and spake kindely vnto the maide.

4 “ഈ പെൺകുട്ടിയെ എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി എടുക്കണം,” ശേഖേം തന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോരിനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

Then said Shechem to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this maide to wife.

5 തന്റെ പുത്രിയായ ദീനായെ ശേഖേം മാനഭംഗപ്പെടുത്തി എന്നവിവരം യാക്കോബ് കേട്ടു; ആ സമയം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ കന്നുകാലികളുമായി വയലിൽ ആയിരുന്നു; അവർ വീട്ടിൽ എത്തുന്നതുവരെ യാക്കോബ് മൗനംപാലിച്ചു.

(Nowe Iaakob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter, and his sonnes were with his cattell in the fielde: therefore Iaakob helde his peace, vntill they were come.)

6 ഈ സമയം ശേഖേമിന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോർ യാക്കോബിനോടു സംസാരിക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു.

Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out vnto Iaakob to commune with him.

7 അതിനിടയ്ക്ക് വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞയുടൻ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ വയലിൽനിന്ന് തിരിച്ചെത്തി. ശേഖേം യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രിയോടൊപ്പം കിടക്കപങ്കിട്ട് അരുതാത്തതു ചെയ്ത്, ഇസ്രായേലിൽ വഷളത്തം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് അവർ കോപവും ക്രോധവും നിറഞ്ഞവരായിത്തീർന്നു.

And whe the sonnes of Iaakob were come out of the fielde and heard it, it grieued the men, and they were very angry, because he had wrought villenie in Israel, in that he had lyen with Iaakobs daughter: which thing ought not to be done.

8 എന്നാൽ ഹാമോർ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിയിലേക്ക് എന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആകൃഷ്ടമായിരിക്കുന്നു. ദയവുചെയ്ത് അവളെ അവനു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കണം.

And Hamor communed with them, saying, the soule of my sonne Shechem longeth for your daughter: giue her him to wife, I pray you.

9 നിങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുമായി മിശ്രവിവാഹബന്ധത്തിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ടാലും! നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തരികയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാം.

So make affinitie with vs: giue your daughters vnto vs, and take our daughters vnto you,

10 ഞങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം പാർക്കുക. ദേശം നിങ്ങളുടെ മുന്നിൽ തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്നു; അതിൽ താമസിച്ച്, തൊഴിൽചെയ്ത് സ്വത്തു സമ്പാദിക്കുക.”

And ye shall dwell with vs, and the lande shalbe before you: dwell, and doe your businesse in it, and haue your possessions therein.

11 പിന്നെ ശേഖേം ദീനായുടെ പിതാവിനോടും സഹോദരന്മാരോടുമായി പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എന്നോടു പ്രീതിയുണ്ടാകണം, നിങ്ങൾ ചോദിക്കുന്നതെന്തും ഞാൻ തരാം.

Shechem also said vnto her father and vnto her brethren, Let me finde fauour in your eyes, and I will giue whatsoeuer ye shall appoint me.

12 സ്ത്രീധനമായോ വിവാഹസമ്മാനമായോ എത്ര അധികം നിങ്ങൾ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാലും ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തന്നുകൊള്ളാം. പെൺകുട്ടിയെ എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി തന്നാൽമാത്രംമതി.”

Aske of me abundantly both dowrie and giftes, and I will giue as ye appoint me, so that ye giue me the maide to wife.

13 തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയായ ദീനായെ മാനഭംഗപ്പെടുത്തിയതുകൊണ്ട് യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ ശേഖേമിനോടും അവന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോരിനോടും മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത് കാപട്യത്തോടെ ആയിരുന്നു.

Then the sonnes of Iaakob answered Shechem and Hamor his father, talking deceitfully, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,

14 അവർ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “അങ്ങനെ ഒരു കാര്യം ചെയ്യാൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു സാധ്യമല്ല. പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കാത്ത ഒരു വ്യക്തിക്ക് ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെ നൽകാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ തയ്യാറല്ല; ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് അതു അപമാനമാണ്;

And they said vnto them, We can not do this thing, to giue our sister to an vncircumcised man: for that were a reproofe vnto vs.

15 ഒരേയൊരു വ്യവസ്ഥയിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ സമ്മതിക്കാം, അതായത്, നിങ്ങളുടെ സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും ഞങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കണം.

But in this will we consent vnto you, if ye will be as we are, that euery man childe among you be circumcised:

16 അപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തരികയും നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കായി സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാം. ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം താമസിച്ച് ഒരു ജനമായിത്തീരാം.

Then will we giue our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to vs, and will dwell with you, and be one people.

17 എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കാൻ വിസമ്മതിക്കുന്നപക്ഷം ഞങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ട് ഇവിടെനിന്നു പോകും.”

But if ye will not hearken vnto vs to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter and depart.

18 അവരുടെ ഈ നിർദേശം ഹാമോരിനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിനും നല്ലതെന്നു തോന്നി.

Nowe their wordes pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamors sonne.

19 തന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിലുള്ള എല്ലാവരെക്കാളും ഏറെ ആദരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ആ ചെറുപ്പക്കാരൻ, യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രിയെ അതിയായി ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട്, അവർ പറഞ്ഞതനുസരിച്ച് ഉടൻതന്നെ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.

And the yong man deferd not to doe the thing because he loued Iaakobs daughter: he was also the most set by of all his fathers house.

20 ഹാമോരും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമും നഗരകവാടത്തിൽ ചെന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു:

Then Hamor and Shechem his Sonne went vnto the gate of their citie, and communed with the men of their citie, saying,

21 “ഈ പുരുഷന്മാർ നമ്മുടെ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളാണ്,” അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. “ഇവർ നമ്മുടെ ദേശത്തു താമസിക്കുകയും തൊഴിൽ ചെയ്യുകയുംചെയ്യട്ടെ. നമ്മുടെ ദേശത്ത് ഇവർക്കു വേണ്ടുവോളം സ്ഥലമുണ്ട്. നമുക്ക് അവരുടെ പുത്രിമാരെയും അവർക്കു നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെയും വിവാഹംചെയ്യാം.

These men are peaceable with vs: and that they may dwell in the land, and doe their affaires therin (for behold, the land hath roume ynough for them) let vs take their daughters to wiues, and giue them our daughters.

22 എന്നാൽ അവരെപ്പോലെതന്നെ നമ്മുടെ പുരുഷന്മാരും പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കണം എന്ന വ്യവസ്ഥ പാലിച്ചാൽമാത്രമേ അവർ നമ്മോടുചേർന്ന് ഒരേ ജനമായി ജീവിക്കാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ.

Onely herein will the men consent vnto vs for to dwell with vs, and to be one people, if all the men children among vs be circumcised as they are circumcised.

23 അവരുടെ കന്നുകാലികളും അവരുടെ സ്വത്തും അവർക്കുള്ള മറ്റെല്ലാ മൃഗങ്ങളും നമ്മുടേതായിത്തീരുകയില്ലയോ? ആകയാൽ അവർ പറയുന്നതു നമുക്കു സമ്മതിക്കാം; അവർ നമ്മുടെ ഇടയിൽ സ്ഥിരതാമസമാക്കിക്കൊള്ളും.”

Shall not their flockes and their substance and all their cattell be ours? onely let vs consent herein vnto them, and they will dwell with vs.

24 നഗരകവാടത്തിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്കുപോയ സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും ഹാമോരിന്റെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിന്റെയും നിർദേശം സമ്മതിച്ചു; നഗരത്തിലെ സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏറ്റു.

And vnto Hamor, and Shechem his sonne hearkened all that went out of the gate of his citie: and all the men children were circumcised, euen all that went out of the gate of his citie.

25 മൂന്നുദിവസത്തിനുശേഷം, അവർ എല്ലാവരും വേദനയോടെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരിൽ രണ്ടുപേർ—ദീനായുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ശിമെയോനും ലേവിയും—തങ്ങളുടെ വാളുമായിച്ചെന്ന്, നിർഭയമായിരുന്ന നഗരത്തെ ആക്രമിച്ച് സകലപുരുഷന്മാരെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

And on the thirde day (when they were sore) two of the sonnes of Iaakob, Simeon and Leui, Dinahs brethren tooke either of them his sworde and went into the citie boldly, and slue euery male.

26 അവർ ഹാമോരിനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിനെയും വാളിനിരയാക്കി; ശേഖേമിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽനിന്ന് ദീനായെ മോചിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.

They slewe also Hamor and Shechem his sonne with the edge of the sword, and tooke Dinah out of Shechems house, and went their way.

27 പിന്നെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ ചെന്ന്, തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെ കളങ്കപ്പെടുത്തിയവരുടെ നഗരം കൊള്ളയടിച്ചു.

Againe the other sonnes of Iaakob came vpon the dead, and spoyled the citie, because they had defiled their sister.

28 അവരുടെ ആട്ടിൻപറ്റങ്ങളെയും കന്നുകാലികളെയും കഴുതകളെയും നഗരത്തിലും വയലിലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സകലവസ്തുക്കളെയും അവർ കൊള്ളയടിച്ചു.

They tooke their sheepe and their beeues, and their asses, and whatsoeuer was in the citie, and in the fieldes.

29 അവരുടെ സർവസമ്പത്തും എടുത്ത്; അവരുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുട്ടികളെയും പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പോകുകയും ചെയ്തു; അങ്ങനെ വീടുകളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സകലതും അവർ കൊള്ളയടിച്ചു.

Also they caryed away captiue and spoyled all their goods, and all their children and their wiues, and all that was in the houses.

30 അപ്പോൾ യാക്കോബ് ശിമെയോനോടും ലേവിയോടും പറഞ്ഞു: “ഈ ദേശവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയും പെരിസ്യരുടെയും ഇടയിൽ നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ നാറ്റിച്ച് എനിക്ക് ഉപദ്രവം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. നമ്മൾ എണ്ണത്തിൽ കുറവുള്ളവരാണ്; അവർ എനിക്കെതിരേ സംഘടിച്ച് എന്നെ ആക്രമിച്ചാൽ ഞാനും എന്റെ കുടുംബവും നശിച്ചുപോകും.”

Then Iaakob said to Simeon and Leui, Ye haue troubled me, and made me stinke among the inhabitats of the land, aswell the Canaanites, as the Perizzites, and and I being few in nomber, they shall gather theselues together against me, and slay me, and so shall I, and my house be destroied.

31 എന്നാൽ അവർ പ്രത്യുത്തരമായി: “അവൻ ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയോട് ഒരു ഗണികയോടെന്നപോലെ പെരുമാറണമായിരുന്നോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And they answered, Shoulde hee abuse our sister as a whore?
