ഉല്പത്തി 29
1 യാക്കോബ് യാത്രതുടർന്ന് പൂർവദേശത്തെ ജനങ്ങളുടെ അടുത്തെത്തി.
Then Jacob lifted up his feet, —and went his way towards the land of the sons of the East.
2 അവിടെ വെളിമ്പ്രദേശത്ത് അയാൾ ഒരു കിണർ കണ്ടു: ആട്ടിൻപറ്റങ്ങൾക്ക് അതിൽനിന്ന് വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് അതിനു സമീപം മൂന്ന് ആട്ടിൻപറ്റം കിടക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കൽ വെച്ചിരുന്ന കല്ല് വളരെ വലുതായിരുന്നു.
And he looked, and lo! a well, in the field and lo! there, three flocks of sheep, lying down near it, for out of that well, do they water the flocks, but, the stone, is great, on the mouth of the well:
3 ആട്ടിൻപറ്റങ്ങൾ വന്നുകൂടുമ്പോൾ ഇടയന്മാർ കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കൽനിന്ന് കല്ല് ഉരുട്ടി നീക്കുകയും ആടുകൾക്ക് വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. പിന്നെ കല്ല് കിണറിന്റെ വായ്ക്കൽ അതിന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തു വെക്കും.
so they gather together thither all the flocks, and roll away the stone from off the mouth of the well, and water the sheep, —and put back the stone upon the mouth of the well, to its place.
4 യാക്കോബ് ആട്ടിടയന്മാരോട്, “സഹോദരന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങൾ എവിടെനിന്നുള്ളവർ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. “ഞങ്ങൾ ഹാരാനിൽനിന്നുള്ളവർ” അവർ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
And Jacob said to them, My brethren, whence are ye? And they said: From haran, are we.
5 അദ്ദേഹം അവരോട്, “നിങ്ങൾ നാഹോരിന്റെ പൗത്രനായ ലാബാനെ അറിയുമോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. “ഞങ്ങൾ അറിയും,” അവർ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said to them, Know ye Laban, son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
6 “അദ്ദേഹം സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നോ?” യാക്കോബ് അവരോട് അന്വേഷിച്ചു. “അദ്ദേഹം സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു. അതാ, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൾ റാഹേൽ ആടുകളുമായി വരുന്നു,” അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said to them, Is it well with him? And they said, Well, but lo! Rachel his daughter, coming in with the sheep.
7 “നോക്കൂ, പകലിനിയും വളരെയുണ്ടല്ലോ; ആട്ടിൻപറ്റങ്ങളെ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കാൻ നേരമായിട്ടില്ല. ആടുകൾക്ക് വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തിട്ട് മേച്ചിൽപ്പുറത്തേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുക,” യാക്കോബ് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said Lo! the day is yet high, it is not time for gathering together the cattle, —water the sheep, and go feed.
8 “എല്ലാ കൂട്ടങ്ങളും വന്നുചേരുകയും കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കൽനിന്ന് കല്ലു മാറ്റുകയും വേണം. അപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾ ആടുകൾക്ക് വെള്ളം കൊടുക്കും. അല്ലാതെ, തിരിച്ചുപോകാൻ സാധ്യമല്ല,” അവർ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
And they said, We cannot, until that all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll away the stone, from off the mouth of the well, —and then can we water the sheep.
9 ഇങ്ങനെ യാക്കോബ് അവരുമായി സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ റാഹേൽ തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളുമായി അവിടെ എത്തി; അവളായിരുന്നു അതിനെ മേയിച്ചിരുന്നത്.
While yet he was speaking with them, Rachel, had come in with the sheep which belonged to her father, for a shepherdess, was she.
10 തന്റെ അമ്മാവനായ ലാബാന്റെ മകളായ റാഹേലിനെയും ലാബാന്റെ ആടുകളെയും കണ്ടപ്പോൾ യാക്കോബ് അടുത്തുചെന്ന് കിണറ്റിന്റെ വായ്ക്കൽനിന്ന് കല്ല് ഉരുട്ടിമാറ്റിയിട്ട് അമ്മാവന്റെ ആടുകൾക്ക് വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തു.
And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled away the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watered the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother,
11 പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനെ ചുംബിച്ച് ഉച്ചത്തിൽ കരഞ്ഞു.
And Jacob kissed Rachel, —and lifted up his voice, and wept.
12 താൻ അവളുടെ പിതാവിന്റെ ബന്ധുവും റിബേക്കയുടെ മകനുമാണെന്ന് യാക്കോബ് അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് വിവരം പിതാവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു.
And when Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son, then ran she, and told her father.
13 ലാബാൻ തന്റെ സഹോദരിയുടെ മകനായ യാക്കോബിനെക്കുറിച്ചു കേട്ടയുടനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ എതിരേൽക്കാൻ ഓടിച്ചെന്നു. ലാബാൻ യാക്കോബിനെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു ചുംബിച്ച് വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവിടെവെച്ച് യാക്കോബ് എല്ലാക്കാര്യങ്ങളും ലാബാനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
And it came to pass when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fondly kissed him, and brought him into his house, —when he recounted to Laban all these things.
14 അപ്പോൾ ലാബാൻ യാക്കോബിനോട്, “നീ എന്റെ സ്വന്തം മാംസവും രക്തവും ആകുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യാക്കോബ് ലാബാനോടുകൂടെ ഒരുമാസം താമസിച്ചു.
And Laban said to him, Surely, my bone and my flesh, art thou. So he abode with him a month of days.
15 അതിനുശേഷം ലാബാൻ യാക്കോബിനോട്, “നീ എന്റെ ബന്ധുവായതുകൊണ്ട് എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രതിഫലം കൂടാതെ ജോലി ചെയ്യണമെന്നുണ്ടോ? നിനക്ക് എന്തു പ്രതിഫലം വേണമെന്നു പറയൂ” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
Then said Laban to Jacob, Is it because my brother, thou art, that thou shouldst serve me for naught? Come tell me! What shall be thy wages?
16 ലാബാനു രണ്ടു പെൺമക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; മൂത്തവളുടെ പേര് ലേയാ എന്നും ഇളയവളുടെ പേര് റാഹേൽ എന്നും ആയിരുന്നു.
Now, Laban, had two daughters, —the name of the elder, Leah, and the name of the younger, Rachel,
17 ലേയയുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ ശോഭകുറഞ്ഞതായിരുന്നു; എന്നാൽ, റാഹേൽ ആകാരഭംഗിയുള്ളവളും സുന്ദരിയുമായിരുന്നു.
But, the eyes of Leah were weak, —whereas, Rachel, was comely in form and comely in countenance.
18 യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട്, “അങ്ങയുടെ ഇളയ മകളായ റാഹേലിനുവേണ്ടി ഞാൻ ഏഴുവർഷം അങ്ങയെ സേവിക്കാം” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ലാബാനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
So Jacob loved Rachel, —and he said, I will serve thee seven years, for Rachel thy younger daughter.
19 “അവളെ മറ്റൊരു പുരുഷനു കൊടുക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ നിനക്കു തരുന്നതാണു നല്ലത്; എന്റെകൂടെ ഇവിടെ താമസിക്കുക” എന്നായിരുന്നു ലാബാന്റെ മറുപടി.
And Laban said, Better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man, —Abide with me!
20 അങ്ങനെ യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനെ നേടുന്നതിനുവേണ്ടി ഏഴുവർഷം സേവിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ, അവളോടുള്ള സ്നേഹംനിമിത്തം ആ ഏഴുവർഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അൽപ്പകാലംമാത്രമായി അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു.
So Jacob served for Rachel—seven years, —and they became, in his eyes, as single days, for his love to her.
21 പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് ലാബാനോട്, “ഇനി എനിക്ക് എന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ തരിക, എന്റെ കാലാവധി തികച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, ഞാൻ അവളെ അറിയട്ടെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Then said Jacob unto Laban: Come give me my wife, for fulfilled are my days, —that I may go in unto her.
22 ലാബാൻ ദേശവാസികളെ എല്ലാവരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി ഒരു വിരുന്നു നടത്തി.
So Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a banquet,
23 രാത്രിയിൽ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ മകൾ ലേയയെ കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് യാക്കോബിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ആക്കി. യാക്കോബ് അവളെ അറിഞ്ഞു.
And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her in unto him, —and he went in unto her.
24 ലാബാൻ തന്റെ വേലക്കാരിയായ സിൽപ്പയെ മകൾക്കു ദാസിയായി വിട്ടുകൊടുത്തു.
And Laban gave her Zilpah, his handmaid, unto Leah his daughter. as handmaid.
25 നേരം പുലർന്നപ്പോൾ, അതു ലേയാ ആയിരുന്നെന്നു ഗ്രഹിച്ചിട്ട് യാക്കോബ് ലാബാനോട്, “താങ്കൾ എന്നോട് ചെയ്തതെന്ത്? ഞാൻ റാഹേലിനുവേണ്ടി അല്ലയോ അങ്ങയെ സേവിച്ചത്? എന്നെ കബളിപ്പിച്ചത് എന്തിന്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
And it came to pass in the morning, that lo! it was Leah, —and he said unto Laban, What is this thou hast done to me? Was it not, for Rachel, I served with thee? Wherefore then hast thou deceived me?
26 അതിനു ലാബാൻ: “മൂത്തവൾക്കു മുമ്പായി ഇളയവളുടെ വിവാഹം നടത്തുന്ന സമ്പ്രദായം ഇവിടെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കില്ല.
And Laban said, It must not be done so in our place, —to give the later-born before the firstborn.
27 ഇവളുടെ വിവാഹവാരം പൂർത്തിയാക്കുക, മറ്റൊരു ഏഴുവർഷത്തെ പ്രയത്നത്തിനു പ്രതിഫലമായി ഇളയവളെയും ഞങ്ങൾ നിനക്കു തരാം.”
Fulfil the week of this one, —then must we give thee, the other one also, for the service wherewith thou shalt serve with me, yet seven years more.
28 യാക്കോബ് അങ്ങനെതന്നെ ചെയ്തു. അദ്ദേഹം ലേയായോടൊത്തുള്ള വിവാഹവാരം പൂർത്തീകരിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് ലാബാൻ തന്റെ മകളായ റാഹേലിനെയും യാക്കോബിന് ഭാര്യയായി നൽകി.
And Jacob did so, and fulfilled the week of this one, —and he gave him Rachel his daughter—to him to wife.
29 ലാബാൻ തന്റെ വേലക്കാരിയായ ബിൽഹയെ മകളായ റാഹേലിനു ദാസിയായി കൊടുത്തു.
And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid, —to be hers as a handmaid.
30 യാക്കോബ് റാഹേലിനെ അറിഞ്ഞു. അദ്ദേഹം ലേയയെക്കാൾ കൂടുതലായി റാഹേലിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു; ലാബാനുവേണ്ടി അദ്ദേഹം മറ്റൊരു ഏഴുവർഷംകൂടി പണിയെടുത്തു.
So he went in, unto Rachel also, and loved, Rachel also, more than Leah, —and he served with him, yet seven years more.
31 ലേയാ അവഗണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നുകണ്ട് യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗർഭം തുറന്നു; റാഹേലോ, വന്ധ്യയായിരുന്നു.
And, when Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, he granted her to bear children, —whereas, Rachel, was barren.
32 ലേയാ ഗർഭംധരിച്ച് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. “ഇത് യഹോവ എന്റെ സങ്കടം കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടാണ്; എന്റെ ഭർത്താവു നിശ്ചയമായും ഇപ്പോൾ എന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കും,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് അവൾ അവന് രൂബേൻ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
So Leah conceived, and bare a son, and called his name Reuben, —for she said, Because, Yahweh hath looked upon my humiliation, For, now, will my husband love me.
33 അവൾ വീണ്ടും ഗർഭംധരിച്ച് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. “എന്നോടു സ്നേഹമില്ല എന്ന് യഹോവ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ട് അവിടന്ന് ഇവനെയും എനിക്കു തന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അവൾ അവന് ശിമെയോൻ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said. Because Yahweh heard that, I, was hated, he gave me, this one also. So she called his name Simeon.
34 അവൾ പിന്നെയും ഗർഭംധരിച്ചു, ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. “എന്റെ ഭർത്താവിനു ഞാൻ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാൽ അദ്ദേഹം എന്നോടു പറ്റിച്ചേരും” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ അവന് ലേവി എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
And she conceived again and bare a son, and said, Now—this time, will my husband be bound unto me, For I have borne him three sons, —For this cause, called she his name Levi.
35 അവൾ വീണ്ടും ഗർഭിണിയായി, ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. “ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ യഹോവയെ വാഴ്ത്തുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അവൾ അവന് യെഹൂദാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. പിന്നെ അവൾക്കു കുട്ടികൾ ജനിച്ചില്ല.
And she conceived again and bare a son, and said This time, will I praise Yahweh, For which cause, she called his name Judah. And she left off bearing.
