ഉല്പത്തി 25

1 അബ്രാഹാം മറ്റൊരു ഭാര്യയെ സ്വീകരിച്ചു; അവളുടെ പേരു കെതൂറാ എന്നായിരുന്നു.

And Abraham took another wife named Keturah.

2 അവൾ അബ്രാഹാമിനു സിമ്രാൻ, യൊക്ശാൻ, മെദാൻ, മിദ്യാൻ, യിശ്ബാക്ക്, ശൂവഹ് എന്നിവരെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 ശേബയും ദെദാനും യൊക്ശയുടെ മക്കളായിരുന്നു. ദേദാന്റെ പിൻഗാമികളാണ് അശ്ശൂരീം, ലെത്തൂശീം, ലെയുമ്മീം എന്നിവർ.

And Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan; and the sons of Dedan were the Asshurim, and the Letushim, and the Leummim.

4 മിദ്യാന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ ഏഫാ, ഏഫെർ, ഹാനോക്ക്, അബീദാ, എൽദായാ എന്നിവരാണ്. ഇവരെല്ലാം കെതൂറായിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ച പിൻഗാമികളായിരുന്നു.

And the sons of Midian were Ephah, and Epher, and Enoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were sons of Keturah.

5 അബ്രാഹാം തനിക്കുള്ളതെല്ലാം യിസ്ഹാക്കിനു വിട്ടുകൊടുത്തു.

And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.

6 അദ്ദേഹം, ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെ പുത്രന്മാർക്കു ദാനങ്ങൾ നൽകി. അവരെ തന്റെ മകനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് ദൂരെ കിഴക്കൻ പ്രദേശത്തേക്കയച്ചു.

And to the sons of the concubines that Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and, while he yet lived, sent them away from Isaac his son, eastward to the east country.

7 അബ്രാഹാം നൂറ്റിയെഴുപത്തഞ്ചു വർഷം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു.

And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived: a hundred and seventy-five years.

8 വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂർണനുമായിത്തീർന്ന അബ്രാഹാം തികഞ്ഞ വാർധക്യത്തിൽ മരിച്ചു തന്റെ ജനത്തോടു ചേർന്നു.

And Abraham expired and died in a good old age, old and full [of days]; and was gathered to his peoples.

9 അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ യിസ്ഹാക്കും യിശ്മായേലുംകൂടി, ഹിത്യനായ സോഹരിന്റെ മകനായ എഫ്രോന്റെ പുരയിടത്തിൽ മമ്രേയ്ക്കു സമീപമുള്ള മക്പേലാഗുഹയിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.

And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which was opposite to Mamre —

10 ഈ ശ്മശാനഭൂമി അബ്രാഹാം ഹിത്യരോടു വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങിയതായിരുന്നു. അവിടെ അബ്രാഹാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറയോടൊപ്പം അടക്കംചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു.

the field that Abraham had purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.

11 അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ മരണത്തിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിനെ ദൈവം അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; യിസ്ഹാക്ക് ആ കാലത്ത് ബേർ-ലഹയീ-രോയീലായിരുന്നു താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്.

And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer-lahai-roi.

12 ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരിയും സാറയുടെ ദാസിയുമായ ഹാഗാർ അബ്രാഹാമിനു പ്രസവിച്ച മകനായ യിശ്മായേലിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച വിവരണം ഇതാണ്:

And these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's bondwoman, bore to Abraham.

13 യിശ്മായേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ പേരുകൾ അവരുടെ ജനനക്രമം അനുസരിച്ച്: യിശ്മായേലിന്റെ ആദ്യജാതനായ നെബായോത്ത്, കേദാർ, അദ്ബെയേൽ, മിബ്ശാം,

And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their names according to their generations: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14 മിശ്മാ, ദൂമാ, മസ്സാ,

and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

15 ഹദദ്, തേമാ, യെതൂർ, നാഫീശ്, കേദെമാ.

Hadad and Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedmah.

16 ഇവരാണ് യിശ്മായേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ; തങ്ങളുടെ അധിനിവേശപ്രദേശങ്ങളും പാളയങ്ങളും അനുസരിച്ചു പന്ത്രണ്ടു ഗോത്രാധികാരികളുടെയും പേരുകൾ ഇവതന്നെ.

These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, in their hamlets and their encampments — twelve princes of their peoples.

17 യിശ്മായേൽ ആകെ നൂറ്റിമുപ്പത്തിയേഴു വർഷം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടു മരിച്ചു; സ്വന്തജനത്തോടു ചേർന്നു.

And these are the years of the life of Ishmael: a hundred and thirty-seven years; and he expired and died, and was gathered to his peoples.

18 യിശ്മായേലിന്റെ പിൻഗാമികൾ അശ്ശൂരിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയിൽ, ഈജിപ്റ്റിന്റെ അതിരിനോടുചേർന്ന് ഹവീലാമുതൽ ശൂർവരെയുള്ള പ്രദേശത്തു സ്ഥിരതാമസമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ സകലസഹോദരന്മാരോടും ശത്രുതപുലർത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് ജീവിച്ചു.

And they dwelt from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite to Egypt, as one goes towards Assyria. He settled before the face of all his brethren.

19 അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ മകനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച വിവരണം: യിസ്ഹാക്ക് അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ മകൻ.

And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son. Abraham begot Isaac.

20 യിസ്ഹാക്കിനു നാൽപ്പതു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം പദ്ദൻ-അരാമിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ബെഥൂവേലിന്റെ പുത്രിയും അരാമ്യനായ ലാബാന്റെ സഹോദരിയുമായ റിബേക്കയെ വിവാഹംചെയ്തു.

And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebecca as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.

21 യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ഭാര്യ വന്ധ്യയായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം അവൾക്കുവേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർഥിച്ചു. യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രാർഥന കേട്ടു; യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ റിബേക്കാ ഗർഭവതിയായി.

And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren; and Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebecca his wife conceived.

22 അവളുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ കുട്ടികൾതമ്മിൽ തിക്കി. അപ്പോൾ അവൾ, “എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ് എനിക്ക് ഇങ്ങനെയൊക്കെ സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്?” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് യഹോവയോടു ചോദിക്കാൻ പോയി.

And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If [it be] so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of Jehovah.

23 യഹോവ അവളോട്: “നിന്റെ ഉദരത്തിൽ രണ്ടു ജനതകളാണുള്ളത്. നിന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽനിന്നുതന്നെ രണ്ടു ജനസമൂഹങ്ങൾ വേർതിരിക്കപ്പെടും; ഒരു ജനസമൂഹം മറ്റതിനെക്കാൾ പ്രബലമായിരിക്കും. മൂത്തവൻ ഇളയവനെ സേവിക്കും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

And Jehovah said to her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels; And one people shall be stronger than the other people, And the elder shall serve the younger.

24 അവളുടെ പ്രസവകാലം സമീപിച്ചു. അവളുടെ ഉദരത്തിൽ ഇരട്ട ആൺകുട്ടികൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25 ആദ്യം പിറന്നവൻ ചെമപ്പു നിറമുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു. അവന്റെ ദേഹം രോമക്കുപ്പായംപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ട്, അവർ അവന് ഏശാവ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

And the first came out red — all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

26 അതിന്റെശേഷം അവന്റെ സഹോദരൻ പിറന്നു; അവൻ ഏശാവിന്റെ കുതികാലിൽ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണു പുറത്തുവന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് അവന് യാക്കോബ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. റിബേക്ക ഇവരെ പ്രസവിച്ചപ്പോൾ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന് അറുപതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

And after that came his brother out; and his hand took hold of Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.

27 ബാലന്മാർ വളർന്നു; ഏശാവ് വെളിമ്പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്നവനും സമർഥനായൊരു നായാട്ടുകാരനും ആയിത്തീർന്നു. യാക്കോബാകട്ടെ, കൂടാരങ്ങളിൽ പാർക്കുന്നവനും ശാന്തനും ആയിരുന്നു.

And the boys grew, and Esau became a man skilled in hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob was a homely man, dwelling in tents.

28 നായാട്ടുമാംസത്തിലുള്ള രുചിമൂലം യിസ്ഹാക്ക് ഏശാവിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു; റിബേക്കയോ, യാക്കോബിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു.

And Isaac loved Esau, because venison was to his taste; and Rebecca loved Jacob.

29 ഒരിക്കൽ യാക്കോബ് പായസം പാകപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഏശാവ് വെളിമ്പ്രദേശത്തുനിന്ന് വല്ലാതെ വിശന്നു കയറിവന്നു.

And Jacob had cooked a dish; and Esau came from the field, and he was faint.

30 അവൻ യാക്കോബിനോട്, “വേഗമാകട്ടെ, ആ ചെമന്ന പായസത്തിൽ കുറച്ച് എനിക്കു തരൂ, വല്ലാതെ വിശക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇക്കാരണത്താലാണ് അവന് ഏദോം എന്നും പേരായത്.

And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with the red — the red thing there, for I am faint. Therefore was his name called Edom.

31 അതിന് യാക്കോബ്, “ഒന്നാമത് നിന്റെ ജന്മാവകാശം എനിക്കു വിലയ്ക്കു തരൂ” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And Jacob said, Sell me now thy birthright.

32 “ഞാനാണെങ്കിൽ ഇതാ മരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങുകയാണ്. ഈ ജന്മാവകാശംകൊണ്ട് എനിക്കെന്തു പ്രയോജനം?” ഏശാവു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Esau said, Behold, I am going to die, and of what use can the birthright be to me?

33 എന്നാൽ യാക്കോബ്, “ആദ്യം എന്നോടു ശപഥംചെയ്യൂ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ അവൻ തന്റെ ജന്മാവകാശം യാക്കോബിനു വിൽക്കുന്നെന്ന് അവനോടു ശപഥംചെയ്തു.

And Jacob said, Swear unto me now. And he swore unto him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.

34 അതിനുശേഷം യാക്കോബ് ഏശാവിന് കുറെ അപ്പവും കുറച്ചു പയറുപായസവും കൊടുത്തു. അവൻ തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തതിനുശേഷം എഴുന്നേറ്റ് സ്ഥലംവിട്ടു. അങ്ങനെ ഏശാവ് തന്റെ ജന്മാവകാശത്തോട് അനാദരവുകാട്ടി.

And Jacob gave Esau bread and the dish of lentils; and he ate and drank, and rose up and went away. Thus Esau despised the birthright.
