പുറപ്പാട് 21

1 “നീ അവരുടെ മുന്നിൽ വെക്കേണ്ടുന്ന നിയമങ്ങൾ ഇവയാണ്:

“These are the ordinances that you are to set before them:

2 “ഒരു എബ്രായദാസനെ നീ വിലയ്ക്കു വാങ്ങുന്നെങ്കിൽ അവൻ ആറുവർഷം നിന്നെ സേവിക്കട്ടെ. എന്നാൽ ഏഴാംവർഷം പ്രതിഫലംവാങ്ങാതെ അവനെ സ്വതന്ത്രനാക്കണം.

If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free without paying anything.

3 അവൻ ഏകനായിട്ടാണു വരുന്നതെങ്കിൽ ഏകനായിത്തന്നെ പോകാവുന്നതാണ്; വരുമ്പോൾ ഭാര്യയുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അവളും അവനോടൊപ്പം പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളണം.

If he arrived alone, he is to leave alone; if he arrived with a wife, she is to leave with him.

4 യജമാനൻ ഒരുവളെ അവനു ഭാര്യയായി നൽകി അവൾ അവനു പുത്രന്മാരെയോ പുത്രിമാരെയോ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ ആ സ്ത്രീയും അവളുടെ കുട്ടികളും യജമാനന് അവകാശപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കും; ആ പുരുഷൻമാത്രം സ്വതന്ത്രനാകും.

If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.

5 “എന്നാൽ ആ ദാസൻ: ‘ഞാൻ എന്റെ യജമാനനെയും എന്റെ ഭാര്യയെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കു സ്വതന്ത്രനായി പോകാൻ ആഗ്രഹമില്ല’ എന്നു തുറന്നുപറയുന്നെങ്കിൽ

But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children; I do not want to go free,’

6 യജമാനൻ അവനെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകണം. അദ്ദേഹം അവനെ വാതിലിന്റെയോ കട്ടിളക്കാലിന്റെയോ അടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് സൂചികൊണ്ട് അവന്റെ കാതു തുളയ്ക്കണം. പിന്നെ അവൻ ആജീവനാന്തം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സേവിക്കണം.

then his master is to bring him before the judges. And he shall take him to the door or doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he shall serve his master for life.

7 “ഒരുവൻ തന്റെ മകളെ ദാസിയായി വിൽക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ അവൾ ദാസന്മാർ പോകുന്നതുപോലെ സ്വതന്ത്രയായി പോകരുത്.

And if a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as the menservants do.

8 അവളെ തനിക്കായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത യജമാനന് അവളോട് ഇഷ്ടമില്ലെങ്കിൽ അദ്ദേഹം അവൾക്കു വീണ്ടെടുപ്പിനുള്ള അനുവാദം നൽകണം. അവളോടു വിശ്വാസലംഘനം നടത്തിയതുകൊണ്ട് അയാൾക്ക് അവളെ അന്യർക്ക് വിൽക്കാൻ അവകാശം ഇല്ല.

If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who had designated her for himself, he must allow her to be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, since he has broken faith with her.

9 അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ മകനുവേണ്ടിയാണ് അവളെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നതെങ്കിൽ ഒരു മകളുടെ അവകാശങ്ങൾ അവൾക്ക് അനുവദിച്ചുകൊടുക്കണം.

And if he chooses her for his son, he must deal with her as with a daughter.

10 ആ മനുഷ്യൻ മറ്റൊരുവളെ വിവാഹംചെയ്യുന്നെങ്കിൽ ഒന്നാമത്തവൾക്കു ഭക്ഷണം, വസ്ത്രം, വൈവാഹികാവകാശം എന്നിവ കുറയ്ക്കരുത്.

If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing, or marital rights of his first wife.

11 ഇവ മൂന്നും അദ്ദേഹം അവൾക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ, പണം കൊടുക്കാതെ അവൾക്കു സ്വതന്ത്രയായി പോകാവുന്നതാണ്.

If, however, he does not provide her with these three things, she is free to go without monetary payment.

12 “ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ അടിച്ചുകൊന്നാൽ അയാൾ മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കണം.

Whoever strikes and kills a man must surely be put to death.

13 എങ്കിലും ഒരു വ്യക്തി മനഃപൂർവം ചെയ്യാതെ അങ്ങനെ സംഭവിക്കാൻ ദൈവം ഇടയാക്കിയതാണെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ നിർദേശിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് ആ മനുഷ്യൻ ഓടിപ്പോകണം.

If, however, he did not lie in wait, but God allowed it to happen, then I will appoint for you a place where he may flee.

14 എന്നാൽ ഒരു വ്യക്തി കരുതിക്കൂട്ടി മറ്റൊരു വ്യക്തിയെ കൊല്ലുന്നെങ്കിൽ ആ മനുഷ്യനെ എന്റെ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽനിന്ന് പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയി കൊന്നുകളയണം.

But if a man schemes and acts willfully against his neighbor to kill him, you must take him away from My altar to be put to death.

15 “അപ്പനെയോ അമ്മയെയോ അടിക്കുന്നവരും മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കണം.

Whoever strikes his father or mother must surely be put to death.

16 “ഒരാൾ മറ്റൊരാളെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി വിൽക്കുകയോ കൈവശം വെച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്താൽ ആ വ്യക്തി മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കണം.

Whoever kidnaps another man must be put to death, whether he sells him or the man is found in his possession.

17 “അപ്പനെയോ അമ്മയെയോ ശപിക്കുന്നവരും മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കണം.

Anyone who curses his father or mother must surely be put to death.

18 “ആളുകൾതമ്മിൽ വഴക്കുണ്ടായിട്ട് ഒരാൾ മറ്റൊരാളെ കല്ലുകൊണ്ടോ മുഷ്ടികൊണ്ടോ ഇടിച്ച് അയാൾ മരിക്കാതെ, കിടപ്പിലാകുകയും

If men are quarreling and one strikes the other with a stone or a fist, and he does not die but is confined to bed,

19 പിന്നീട് എഴുന്നേറ്റ് വടി ഊന്നി വെളിയിൽ നടക്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ ഇടിച്ച വ്യക്തിയെ ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതില്ല; എങ്കിലും ഇടിയേറ്റയാൾക്കു നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം കൊടുക്കുകയും പരിപൂർണസൗഖ്യം വരുത്താൻ വേണ്ടതു ചെയ്യുകയും വേണം.

then the one who struck him shall go unpunished, as long as the other can get up and walk around outside with his staff. Nevertheless, he must compensate the man for his lost work and see that he is completely healed.

20 “ആരെങ്കിലും തന്റെ ദാസനെയോ ദാസിയെയോ വടികൊണ്ട് അടിച്ചിട്ട് അതിന്റെ ഫലമായി ആ അടിമ മരിച്ചുപോയാൽ അടിച്ച വ്യക്തിയെ ശിക്ഷിക്കണം;

If a man strikes his manservant or maidservant with a rod, and the servant dies by his hand, he shall surely be punished.

21 എന്നാൽ അടിമ ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ ദിവസംകൂടി ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നാൽ ആ മനുഷ്യനെ ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതില്ല; അടിമ അവന്റെ സ്വത്താണല്ലോ!

However, if the servant gets up after a day or two, the owner shall not be punished, since the servant is his property.

22 “ആളുകൾതമ്മിൽ വഴക്കുണ്ടായിട്ട് ഒരു ഗർഭിണിക്ക് ആഘാതം ഏൽക്കുകയും മാസംതികയാതെ പ്രസവിക്കുകയും എന്നാൽ ഗുരുതരമായ പരിക്ക് ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭർത്താവ് ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതും ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ നിശ്ചയിക്കുന്നതുമായ പിഴ അക്രമി അടയ്ക്കേണ്ടതാണ്.

If men who are fighting strike a pregnant woman and her child is born prematurely, but there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband demands and as the court allows.

23 എന്നാൽ ഗുരുതരമായ പരിക്കുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങൾ ജീവനുപകരം ജീവൻ കൊടുക്കണം.

But if a serious injury results, then you must require a life for a life—

24 കണ്ണിനുപകരം കണ്ണ്, പല്ലിനുപകരം പല്ല്, കൈക്കു പകരം കൈ, പാദത്തിനു പകരം പാദം,

eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 പൊള്ളലിനു പകരം പൊള്ളൽ, മുറിവിനു പകരം മുറിവ്, ചതവിനു പകരം ചതവ് എന്നീ ക്രമത്തിൽ ശിക്ഷ നടപ്പാക്കണം.

burn for burn, wound for wound, and stripe for stripe.

26 “ഒരു യജമാനൻ തന്റെ ദാസന്റെയോ ദാസിയുടെയോ കണ്ണ് അടിച്ചു നശിപ്പിച്ചാൽ, കണ്ണിനു നഷ്ടപരിഹാരമായി ആ ദാസനെയോ ദാസിയെയോ, സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം കൊടുത്തു വിട്ടയയ്ക്കണം.

If a man strikes and blinds the eye of his manservant or maidservant, he must let the servant go free as compensation for the eye.

27 ആ മനുഷ്യൻ ദാസന്റെയോ ദാസിയുടെയോ പല്ല് അടിച്ചുകൊഴിച്ചാൽ പല്ലിനുള്ള നഷ്ടപരിഹാരമായി ആ ദാസനെ, അഥവാ, ദാസിയെ വിട്ടയയ്ക്കണം.

And if he knocks out the tooth of his manservant or maidservant, he must let the servant go free as compensation for the tooth.

28 “ഒരു കാള ഒരു പുരുഷനെയോ സ്ത്രീയെയോ കുത്തിക്കൊന്നാൽ ആ കാളയെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊല്ലണം; അതിന്റെ മാംസം ഭക്ഷിക്കാൻ പാടില്ല. കാളയുടെ ഉടമ ശിക്ഷ അർഹിക്കുന്നില്ല.

If an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox must surely be stoned, and its meat must not be eaten. But the owner of the ox shall not be held responsible.

29 എന്നാൽ ആ കാള കുത്തുന്ന സ്വഭാവമുള്ളതും ഉടമയ്ക്കു മുന്നറിയിപ്പു നൽകിയിട്ടും അയാൾ അതിനെ കെട്ടി സൂക്ഷിക്കാതിരുന്നതുമാണെങ്കിൽ, അത് ഒരു പുരുഷനെയോ സ്ത്രീയെയോ കുത്തിക്കൊന്നാൽ അതിനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊല്ലണം; ഉടമയും മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കണം.

But if the ox has a habit of goring, and its owner has been warned yet does not restrain it, and it kills a man or woman, then the ox must be stoned and its owner must also be put to death.

30 എന്നാൽ മോചനദ്രവ്യം നിശ്ചയിച്ചാൽ ആ മോചനദ്രവ്യം കൊടുത്ത് ഉടമയ്ക്കു തന്റെ ജീവൻ വീണ്ടെടുക്കാം.

If payment is demanded of him instead, he may redeem his life by paying the full amount demanded of him.

31 മകനെയോ മകളെയോ കാള കുത്തിക്കൊന്നാലും ഈ നിയമം ബാധകമായിരിക്കും.

If the ox gores a son or a daughter, it shall be done to him according to the same rule.

32 ഒരു ദാസനെയോ ദാസിയെയോ കാള കുത്തിക്കൊന്നാൽ അതിന്റെ ഉടമ അടിമയുടെ ഉടമയ്ക്കു മുപ്പതു ശേക്കേൽ വെള്ളി കൊടുക്കുകയും കാളയെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു കൊല്ലുകയും വേണം.

If the ox gores a manservant or maidservant, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the master of that servant, and the ox must be stoned.

33 “ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരു കുഴി തുറന്നുവെക്കുകയോ ഒരു കുഴി ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടു മൂടാതിരിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തിട്ട് ഒരു കാളയോ കഴുതയോ അതിൽ വീണാൽ,

If a man opens or digs a pit and fails to cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,

34 കുഴിയുടെ ഉടമ മൃഗത്തിന്റെ ഉടമയ്ക്കു നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നൽകണം എന്നാൽ ചത്ത മൃഗം കുഴിയുടെ ഉടമയ്ക്ക് അവകാശപ്പെട്ടതുമായിരിക്കും.

the owner of the pit shall make restitution; he must pay its owner, and the dead animal will be his.

35 “ആരുടെയെങ്കിലും കാള മറ്റൊരാളുടെ കാളയെ കുത്തിക്കൊന്നാൽ അവർ ജീവനുള്ളതിനെ വിറ്റ് ആ പണം പങ്കിട്ടെടുക്കണം; ചത്തകാളയെയും തുല്യമായി വീതിച്ചെടുക്കണം.

If a man’s ox injures his neighbor’s ox and it dies, they must sell the live one and divide the proceeds; they also must divide the dead animal.

36 എന്നാൽ, ആ കാള കുത്തുന്ന ശീലം ഉള്ളതാണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും മൃഗത്തിന്റെ ഉടമ അതിനെ സൂക്ഷിക്കാതിരുന്നതാണെങ്കിൽ അയാൾ ചത്തമൃഗത്തെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട്; മൃഗത്തിനുപകരം മൃഗത്തെ കൊടുക്കണം.

But if it was known that the ox had a habit of goring, yet its owner failed to restrain it, he shall pay full compensation, ox for ox, and the dead animal will be his.
