സഭാപ്രസംഗി 6
1 സൂര്യനുകീഴേ ഞാൻ മറ്റൊരു തിന്മ കണ്ടു, അതു മനുഷ്യർക്ക് അസഹനീയമായിരുന്നു:
There is another evil I have seen under the sun, and it weighs heavily upon mankind:
2 ദൈവം ചിലർക്ക് ധനവും സമ്പാദ്യങ്ങളും ബഹുമാനവും നൽകുന്നു; അവർ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത് അവർക്കു ലഭിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല. എന്നാൽ അവ ആസ്വദിക്കുന്നതിനു ദൈവം അവരെ അനുവദിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല, അവർക്കുപകരം അപരിചിതർ അത് ആസ്വദിക്കും. ഇത് അർഥശൂന്യം, കഠിനതിന്മയും ആകുന്നു.
God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires; but God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is futile and a grievous affliction.
3 ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് നൂറു മക്കളും ദീർഘായുസ്സും ഉണ്ടാകാം; അയാൾ എത്രകാലം ജീവിക്കുന്നു എന്നതല്ല, അയാൾക്കു തന്റെ ഐശ്വര്യം ആസ്വദിക്കാനാവുകയും ഉചിതമായ ശവസംസ്കാരം ലഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ ഒരു ചാപിള്ള അയാളെക്കാളും വളരെയേറെ ഭാഗ്യമുള്ളത് എന്നു ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു.
A man may father a hundred children and live for many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he is unsatisfied with his prosperity and does not even receive a proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.
4 അർഥമില്ലാതെ അതു വരുന്നു, ഇരുട്ടിൽ അത് മറയുന്നു, ഇരുട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ അതിന്റെ പേരും മറയ്ക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
For a stillborn child enters in futility and departs in darkness, and his name is shrouded in obscurity.
5 അത് ഒരിക്കലും സൂര്യനെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലെങ്കിലും ഒന്നും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലെങ്കിലും, ആ മനുഷ്യനുള്ളതിനെക്കാൾ വിശ്രമം അതിനുണ്ട്.
The child, though neither seeing the sun nor knowing anything, has more rest than that man,
6 അയാൾ രണ്ടായിരം വർഷം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നിട്ടും തന്റെ സമൃദ്ധി ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ എല്ലാവരും ഒരേ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കല്ലേ പോകുന്നത്?
even if he lives a thousand years twice over but fails to enjoy his prosperity. Do not all go to the same place?
7 എല്ലാ മനുഷ്യരുടെയും അധ്വാനം അവരുടെ ഉദരപൂരണത്തിനുവേണ്ടിയാണ്, എന്നിട്ടും അവരുടെ ഭക്ഷണേച്ഛയ്ക്കു തൃപ്തിവരുന്നില്ല.
All a man’s labor is for his mouth, yet his appetite is never satisfied.
8 ജ്ഞാനിക്ക് ഭോഷരെക്കാൾ എന്ത് നേട്ടമുണ്ട്? അന്യരുടെമുമ്പിൽ പെരുമാറേണ്ടതെങ്ങനെയെന്ന് അറിയുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ദരിദ്രർ എന്തു നേടുന്നു?
What advantage, then, has the wise man over the fool? What gain comes to the poor man who knows how to conduct himself before others?
9 അഭിലാഷത്തിന്റെ അലഞ്ഞുതിരിയലിനെക്കാൾ കണ്ണിനു കാണുന്നതെന്തോ അതു നല്ലത്. ഇതും അർഥശൂന്യം, കാറ്റിനുപിന്നാലെയുള്ള ഓട്ടംതന്നെ.
Better what the eye can see than the wandering of desire. This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.
10 നിലനിൽക്കുന്നതിനെല്ലാം മുമ്പേതന്നെ പേരു നൽകപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു, മനുഷ്യരാശി എന്തെന്ന് മുമ്പേതന്നെ അറിയപ്പെട്ടുമിരിക്കുന്നു; തന്നെക്കാളും ശക്തരായവരോട് ഒരു മനുഷ്യനും എതിർത്ത് ജയിക്കാൻ കഴിയുകയില്ല.
Whatever exists was named long ago, and what happens to a man is foreknown; but he cannot contend with one stronger than he.
11 വാക്കുകൾ ഏറുമ്പോൾ അർഥം കുറയുന്നു, അതുകൊണ്ട് ആർക്ക് എന്തു പ്രയോജനം?
For the more words, the more futility—and how does that profit anyone?
12 നിഴൽപോലെ നീങ്ങിപ്പോകുന്ന ഹ്രസ്വവും അർഥശൂന്യവും ആയ നാളുകൾക്കിടയിൽ ഒരാളുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ നല്ലത് ഏതെന്ന് ആരറിയുന്നു? അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുശേഷം സൂര്യനുകീഴേ എന്തു സംഭവിക്കും എന്ന് ആർക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് പറയാൻകഴിയും?
For who knows what is good for a man during the few days in which he passes through his fleeting life like a shadow? Who can tell a man what will come after him under the sun?
