സഭാപ്രസംഗി 5

1 നീ ദൈവാലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകുമ്പോൾ നിന്റെ കാലടികൾ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക. തങ്ങൾ തെറ്റു ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നതറിയാതെ യാഗമർപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഭോഷരെപ്പോലെയാകാതെ, അടുത്തുചെന്നു ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക.

Look well to thy feet, when thou goest to the house of God, and draw nigh to hear, rather than to offer sacrifice as fools. For they consider not that they do evil.

2 സംസാരിക്കുന്നതിൽ തിടുക്കമാകരുത്, ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ എന്തെങ്കിലും ഉച്ചരിക്കുന്നതിന് ഹൃദയത്തിൽ തിരക്കുകൂട്ടരുത്. കാരണം ദൈവം സ്വർഗത്തിലും നീ ഭൂമിയിലും ആകുന്നു, അതുകൊണ്ട് നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ പരിമിതമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

Be not hasty with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be swift to utter any thing before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth. Therefore let thy words be few.

3 അനേകം ക്ലേശങ്ങളുള്ളപ്പോൾ സ്വപ്നം കാണുന്നതുപോലെയാണ് വാക്കുകളുടെ പെരുമഴപൊഴിക്കുന്ന ഭോഷന്റെ ഭാഷണവും.

For a dream cometh with much bustle, and a fool's voice with a multitude of words.

4 ദൈവത്തോടു നീ നേരുമ്പോൾ അത് നിവർത്തിക്കാൻ കാലവിളംബം വരുത്തരുത്. ഭോഷനിൽ അവിടത്തേക്ക് പ്രസാദമില്ലല്ലോ; നിന്റെ നേർച്ച നിവർത്തിക്കുക.

When thou vowest a vow to God, delay not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools. Pay that which thou hast vowed.

5 നേർച്ച നേരാതിരിക്കുന്നതാണ്, നേർന്നിട്ട് നിവർത്തിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നതിലും നല്ലത്.

Better is it that thou shouldst not vow than that thou shouldst vow and not pay.

6 നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ നിന്നെ പാപത്തിലേക്കു നയിക്കാതിരിക്കട്ടെ. ദൈവാലയത്തിലെ ദൂതുവാഹിയോട് എതിർത്ത്, “എന്റെ നേർച്ച അബദ്ധത്തിൽ നേർന്നുപോയതാണ്” എന്നു പറയരുത്. ദൈവം കോപിക്കുന്നതിനും നിന്റെ കൈകളുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികളെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനും നിന്റെ വാക്കുമൂലം എന്തിനിടയാകണം?

Suffer not thy mouth to bring punishment on thy flesh, and say not before the angel, “It was a mistake.” Wherefore should God be angry on account of thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?

7 അധികം സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും ഏറെ വാക്കുകളും അർഥശൂന്യം. അതുകൊണ്ട് ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുക.

For in a multitude of dreams is a multitude of vanities; so also in a multitude of words; but fear thou God!

8 ഒരു പ്രവിശ്യയിൽ ദരിദ്രർ പീഡിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുകയും അവരുടെ നീതിയും അവകാശങ്ങളും നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് നീ കാണുന്നെങ്കിൽ, അത്ഭുതപ്പെടരുത്, കാരണം ഒരു അധികാരി ഒരു ഉന്നതാധികാരിയാൽ നിരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അവർക്കിരുവർക്കുംമുകളിലും ഉന്നതരുണ്ട്.

If thou seest oppression of the poor, and justice and equity perverted in a province, be not alarmed at the matter. For over the high there is a higher, who watcheth, and there is one higher than they all.

9 ദേശത്തിന്റെ സമൃദ്ധിയുടെ ഗുണഭോക്താക്കൾ ആ ദേശവാസികളെല്ലാമാണ്; രാജാവുതന്നെയും കൃഷിയിടങ്ങളിലെ സമൃദ്ധിയിൽ പങ്കുചേരുന്നു.

An advantage to a land in all respects is a king over cultivated ground.

10 പണത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് ഒരിക്കലും മതിയാകുംവരെ പണം ഉണ്ടാകുകയില്ല; സമ്പത്തിനെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് അവരുടെ വരുമാനംകൊണ്ട് ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരികയുമില്ല. ഇതും അർഥശൂന്യം.

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; and he that loveth riches shall have no profit from them. This also is vanity.

11 വിഭവങ്ങൾ പെരുകുന്നതനുസരിച്ച് അവയുടെ ഗുണഭോക്താക്കളും പെരുകുന്നു. അതുകണ്ടു കണ്ണിനു വിരുന്നാകുമെന്നതല്ലാതെ അതിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥന് എന്തു പ്രയോജനമാണു ലഭിക്കുന്നത്?

When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage hath the owner thereof, save the beholding of them with his eyes?

12 വേലക്കാർ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് അൽപ്പമോ അധികമോ ആയാലും അവരുടെ ഉറക്കം സുഖകരമാണ്, എന്നാൽ, സമ്പന്നരുടെ സമൃദ്ധി അവരുടെ ഉറക്കം കെടുത്തുന്നു.

Sweet is the sleep of a laboring man, whether he have eaten little or much; but the repletion of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

13 സൂര്യനുകീഴിൽ ഒരു കഠിനതിന്മ ഞാൻ കണ്ടു: ഉടമസ്ഥർക്ക് അനർഥമാകുമാറു കൂട്ടിവെക്കുന്ന സമ്പത്തുതന്നെ.

There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, — riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt.

14 ദൗർഭാഗ്യവശാൽ ആ സമ്പത്ത് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടുപോകുന്നു, അവർക്ക് മക്കളുണ്ടാകുമ്പോൾ അവകാശമായി നൽകാൻ യാതൊന്നും ശേഷിക്കുന്നില്ല.

For those riches perish by some calamity, and, if he have a son, there is nothing in his hand.

15 അമ്മയുടെ ഗർഭത്തിൽനിന്ന് സകലരും നഗ്നരായി വരുന്നു, സകലരും വരുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുന്നു. തങ്ങളുടെ അധ്വാനത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒന്നുംതന്നെ അവരുടെ കൈയിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോകുകയുമില്ല.

As he came forth from his mother's womb naked, so shall he go away again, as he came, and shall take away nothing of his labor which he may carry in his hand.

16 ഇതും കഠിനതിന്മതന്നെ: സകലമനുഷ്യരും വരുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ മടങ്ങുന്നു, കാറ്റിനെ പിടിക്കുന്നതിനായുള്ള പരക്കംപാച്ചിലുകൊണ്ട് അവർ എന്തു നേടുന്നു?

This is also a sore evil, that, in all points as he came, so shall he go. And what profit is there to him who toileth for wind?

17 തങ്ങളുടെ ജീവകാലമെല്ലാം അവർ ഇരുട്ടിൽ കഴിയുന്നു; വലിയ വ്യസനത്തോടും നിരാശയോടും ക്രോധത്തോടുംതന്നെ.

Also all his days he ate in darkness, and had much grief and anxiety and vexation.

18 തനിക്കു ദൈവം നൽകിയ ഹ്രസ്വജീവിതകാലത്ത് ഭക്ഷിച്ച് പാനംചെയ്ത്, സൂര്യനുകീഴേയുള്ള തന്റെ അധ്വാനത്തിൽ സംതൃപ്തി കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതാണ് ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് ഉത്തമവും ഉചിതവുമായ കാര്യമെന്ന് എനിക്കു ബോധ്യമായി—അതാണല്ലോ അവരുടെ ഓഹരി.

Behold, what I have seen is, that it is good and proper for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor which he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him; for it is his portion.

19 മാത്രവുമല്ല, ദൈവം നൽകിയ ധനസമ്പത്തുക്കൾ ആസ്വദിച്ച് തന്റെ പ്രയത്നത്തിൽ ആനന്ദിക്കാൻ ദൈവം ഒരാൾക്ക് ഇടയാക്കുന്നു—അതും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനം.

To whatever man also God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him to enjoy them, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

20 ആനന്ദാതിരേകത്താൽ അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം നിറച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ദൈവം അവരെ കർത്തവ്യനിരതരാക്കുമ്പോൾ ജീവിതത്തിലെ കഴിഞ്ഞുപോയ ദിനങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർ ചിന്തിക്കാറേയില്ല.

For he will not much remember the days of his life; for God answereth him with the joy of his heart.
