സഭാപ്രസംഗി 4
1 പിന്നെയും സൂര്യനുകീഴിൽ നടമാടുന്ന എല്ലാത്തരം പീഡനങ്ങളും ഞാൻ നിരീക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു: പീഡിതരുടെ കണ്ണീരു ഞാൻ കണ്ടു— അവർക്ക് ആശ്വാസം പകരാൻ ആരുമില്ല; പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നവർ അതിശക്തരായിരുന്നു— പക്ഷേ, പീഡിതർക്ക് ആശ്വാസം പകരാൻ ആരുമില്ല.
So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of [such as were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors [there was] power; but they had no comforter.
2 അതിനാൽ മരിച്ചുമണ്ണടിഞ്ഞവർതന്നെയാണ് ജീവനുള്ളവരെക്കാൾ; ഇപ്പോൾ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെക്കാൾ സന്തുഷ്ടർ എന്ന നിഗമനത്തിൽ ഞാൻ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നു.
Wherefore I praised the dead who are already dead more than the living who are yet alive.
3 എന്നാൽ ഈ രണ്ടുകൂട്ടരിലും ഭേദം നാളിതുവരെ ജനിക്കാത്തവരാണ്, അവർ സൂര്യനുകീഴേ നടമാടുന്ന ദുഷ്ടത കാണാത്തവരാണ്.
Yes, better is [he] than both they, who hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
4 ഒരാൾക്ക് തന്റെ അയൽവാസിയോടുള്ള അസൂയയിൽനിന്നാണ് എല്ലാ കഠിനാധ്വാനവും എല്ലാ അഭിവൃദ്ധിയും പൊട്ടിപ്പുറപ്പെടുന്നതെന്നു ഞാൻ മനസ്സിലാക്കി. ഇതും അർഥശൂന്യം, കാറ്റിനുപിന്നാലെയുള്ള ഓട്ടംതന്നെ.
Again, I considered all labor, and every right work, that for this a man is envied by his neighbor. This [is] also vanity and vexation of spirit.
5 ഭോഷർ കൈയുംകെട്ടിയിരുന്ന് തങ്ങളുടെ നാശത്തിനു വഴിയൊരുക്കുന്നു.
The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
6 കാറ്റിനുപിന്നാലെ ഓടി ഇരുകൈകളും നേട്ടങ്ങളാൽ നിറയ്ക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ പ്രശാന്തതയോടുകൂടിയ ഒരു കൈക്കുമ്പിൾ നേട്ടമാണ് അധികം നല്ലത്.
Better [is] a handful [with] quietness, than both the hands full [with] toil and vexation of spirit.
7 സൂര്യനുകീഴേ അർഥശൂന്യമായ ചിലതു പിന്നെയും ഞാൻ കണ്ടു:
Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.
8 ഏകാകിയായ ഒരു പുരുഷൻ, അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു മകനോ സഹോദരനോ ആരുംതന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അധ്വാനത്തിന് അവസാനമില്ലായിരുന്നു. എന്നിട്ടും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾക്ക് തന്റെ സമ്പത്തുകണ്ടു തൃപ്തിവന്നതുമില്ല. “ആർക്കുവേണ്ടിയാണ് ഞാൻ അധ്വാനിക്കുന്നത്,” അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിച്ചു, “എന്തിന് ഞാൻ എന്റെ സുഖാനുഭവം ത്യജിക്കുന്നു?” ഇതും അർഥശൂന്യം— ദൗർഭാഗ്യകരമായ പ്രവൃത്തിതന്നെ!
There is one [alone], and [there is] not a second; yes, he hath neither child nor brother: yet [is there] no end of all his labor; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither [saith he], For whom do I labor, and bereave my soul of good? This [is] also vanity, yes, it [is] a grievous labor.
9 ഒരാളെക്കാൾ ഇരുവർ നല്ലത്, കാരണം, അവർക്ക് അവരുടെ അധ്വാനത്തിന് നല്ല പ്രതിഫലം ലഭിക്കും:
Two [are] better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.
10 അവരിലൊരാൾ വീണുപോയാൽ, ഒരാൾക്ക് മറ്റേയാളെ സഹായിക്കാൻ കഴിയും. ഒരാൾ വീഴുമ്പോൾ എഴുന്നേൽപ്പിക്കാൻ ആരുമില്ലാത്ത മനുഷ്യന്റെ അവസ്ഥ കഷ്ടംതന്നെ.
For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him [that is] alone when he falleth; for [he hath] not another to help him to rise.
11 അതുപോലെ, രണ്ടുപേർ ഒരുമിച്ചു കിടന്നാൽ അവർക്ക് കുളിർ മാറും. എന്നാൽ ഏകാകിയുടെ കുളിർമാറുന്നത് എങ്ങനെ?
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm [alone]?
12 ഒരാൾ ആക്രമിക്കപ്പെട്ടാൽ ഇരുവർക്കും ഒരുമിച്ചു പ്രതിരോധിക്കാം. മുപ്പിരിച്ചരട് വേഗത്തിൽ പൊട്ടുകയില്ല.
And if one prevaileth against him, two shall withstand him; and a three-fold cord is not quickly broken.
13 മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് എങ്ങനെ സ്വീകരിക്കണം എന്നറിയാത്ത വൃദ്ധനും ഭോഷനും ആയ രാജാവിനെക്കാൾ, ദരിദ്രനും ബുദ്ധിമാനുമായ യുവാവ് ഏറെ ശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ.
Better [is] a poor and a wise child, than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.
14 ദരിദ്രഭവനത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചവനെങ്കിലും, അഥവാ, കാരാഗൃഹത്തിൽ ആയിരുന്നവനാണെങ്കിലും ഒടുവിൽ രാജസിംഹാസനത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചേർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു ഈ യുവാവ്.
For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also [he that is] born in his kingdom becometh poor.
15 സൂര്യനുകീഴേ ജീവിച്ചവരും സഞ്ചരിച്ചവരും രാജാവിന്റെ അനന്തരഗാമിയായ ഈ യുവാവിനെ പിൻതുടരുന്നതു ഞാൻ കണ്ടു.
I considered all the living who walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead.
16 അവനെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നവരുടെ നിര അനന്തമായി നീളുന്നു. എന്നാൽ അടുത്ത തലമുറയിലുള്ളവർ അനന്തരഗാമിയായ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ സംതൃപ്തരായിരുന്നില്ല. ഇതും അർഥശൂന്യം, കാറ്റിനുപിന്നാലെയുള്ള ഓട്ടംതന്നെ.
[There is] no end of all the people, [even] of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
