സഭാപ്രസംഗി 10
1 ചത്ത ഈച്ച സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തിനു ദുർഗന്ധം വരുത്തുന്നതുപോലെ അൽപ്പഭോഷത്വം ജ്ഞാനത്തെയും ബഹുമാനത്തെയും നഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
As dead flies bring a stench to the perfumer’s oil, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ഹൃദയം വലത്തേക്കു ചായുന്നു, എന്നാൽ ഭോഷരുടെ ഹൃദയം ഇടത്തേക്കും.
A wise man’s heart inclines to the right, but the heart of a fool to the left.
3 വഴിയേ നടക്കുമ്പോൾപോലും ഭോഷർക്ക് യുക്തി കുറഞ്ഞുപോകുകയും താൻ ഒരു വിഡ്ഢിയാണെന്ന് എല്ലാവരുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ തെളിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
Even as the fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking, and he shows everyone that he is a fool.
4 ഒരു ഭരണാധിപന്റെ ക്രോധം നിനക്കെതിരേ ഉയരുന്നെങ്കിൽ നിന്റെ പദവി നീ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുത്; പല തെറ്റുകളെയും അടക്കാൻ ശാന്തതയ്ക്കു കഴിയും.
If the ruler’s temper flares against you, do not abandon your post, for calmness lays great offenses to rest.
5 സൂര്യനുകീഴിൽ ഞാൻ ഒരു തിന്മ കണ്ടു, ഭരണാധിപരിൽനിന്നുമുണ്ടാകുന്ന ഒരുതരം തെറ്റുതന്നെ:
There is an evil I have seen under the sun— an error that proceeds from the ruler:
6 ഭോഷരെ ഉന്നതപദവികളിൽ വെക്കുകയും കാര്യശേഷിയുള്ളവർക്ക് താണപദവികൾ നൽകുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു.
Folly is appointed to great heights, but the rich sit in lowly positions.
7 അടിമകൾ കുതിരപ്പുറത്തിരിക്കുന്നതും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ അടിമകളെപ്പോലെ കാൽനടയായി പോകുന്നതും ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.
I have seen slaves on horseback, while princes go on foot like slaves.
8 കുഴി കുഴിക്കുന്നവർ അതിൽത്തന്നെ വീഴുന്നു; മതിൽ പൊളിക്കുന്നവരെ പാമ്പു കടിക്കുന്നു.
He who digs a pit may fall into it, and he who breaches a wall may be bitten by a snake.
9 പാറമടയിൽ ജോലിചെയ്യുന്നവർക്ക് അവയാൽ മുറിവുണ്ടാകാം; വിറകു കീറുന്നവർക്ക് അവയാൽ ആപത്തുമുണ്ടാകാം.
The one who quarries stones may be injured by them, and he who splits logs endangers himself.
10 മഴു ബലമില്ലാത്തതും അതിന്റെ വായ്ത്തല മൂർച്ചയില്ലാത്തതുമാണെങ്കിൽ കൂടുതൽ ശക്തി ആവശ്യമായി വരും, എന്നാൽ സാമർഥ്യം വിജയം നൽകും.
If the axe is dull and the blade unsharpened, more strength must be exerted, but skill produces success.
11 പാമ്പാട്ടി പിടിച്ച പാമ്പു മെരുക്കപ്പെടുന്നതിനുമുമ്പേ അയാളെ കടിച്ചാൽ അയാൾക്കൊരു പ്രയോജനവുമുണ്ടായില്ലല്ലോ.
If the snake bites before it is charmed, there is no profit for the charmer.
12 ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ വായിൽനിന്നുവരുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ ലാവണ്യമുള്ളത്, എന്നാൽ ഭോഷർ അവരുടെ സ്വന്തം അധരങ്ങളാൽ നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool consume him.
13 ആരംഭത്തിൽത്തന്നെ അവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ ഭോഷത്വം നിറഞ്ഞതാണ്; അവസാനത്തിലോ, അവ ദുഷ്ടതയുടെ മതിഭ്രമം വെളിവാക്കുന്നു—
The beginning of his talk is folly, and the end of his speech is evil madness.
14 ഭോഷർ വാക്കുകൾ പെരുക്കുന്നു. എന്താണു സംഭവിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ആർക്കും ഒരു നിശ്ചയവുമില്ല— തനിക്കുശേഷം എന്തു സംഭവിക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രവചിക്കാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും?
Yet the fool multiplies words. No one knows what is coming, and who can tell him what will come after him?
15 ഭോഷരുടെ അധ്വാനം അവരെ ക്ഷീണിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴി അവർ അറിയുന്നില്ല.
The toil of a fool wearies him, for he does not know the way to the city.
16 ദാസൻ രാജാവായിത്തീർന്ന ദേശമേ, അതികാലത്തുതന്നെ സദ്യക്കിരിക്കുന്ന രാജകുമാരന്മാരുള്ള ദേശമേ, നിനക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം!
Woe to you, O land whose king is a youth, and whose princes feast in the morning.
17 കുലീനനായ രാജാവും മദോന്മത്തരാകാനല്ല, ശക്തിനേടാൻ യഥാകാലത്തു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്ന രാജകുമാരന്മാരുള്ള ദേശമേ, നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.
Blessed are you, O land whose king is a son of nobles, and whose princes feast at the proper time— for strength and not for drunkenness.
18 ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ മടിയനെങ്കിൽ, മേൽപ്പുര വീഴുന്നു; അയാളുടെ കരങ്ങൾ അലസമെങ്കിൽ വീട് ചോരുന്നു.
Through laziness the roof caves in, and in the hands of the idle, the house leaks.
19 വിരുന്ന് ചിരിക്കാനുള്ള അവസരം, വീഞ്ഞ് ജീവിതത്തെ ആനന്ദമുള്ളതാക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ എല്ലാറ്റിന്റെയും ഉത്തരം പണമാണ്.
A feast is prepared for laughter, and wine makes life merry, but money is the answer for everything.
20 മനസ്സിൽപോലും രാജാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കരുത്, കിടക്കറയിൽവെച്ചു ധനാഢ്യരെ ശപിക്കുകയും അരുത്, കാരണം ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷി നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ വഹിക്കുകയും, പറവജാതി നീ പറയുന്നതു പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കുകയുംചെയ്യാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.
Do not curse the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich even in your bedroom, for a bird of the air may carry your words, and a winged creature may report your speech.
