അപ്പൊ. പ്രവൃത്തികൾ 26

1 അഗ്രിപ്പാ പൗലോസിനോട്, “നിന്റെപക്ഷം വിശദീകരിക്കാൻ നിനക്ക് അനുവാദമുണ്ട്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ പൗലോസ് കൈ നീട്ടിക്കൊണ്ട് എതിർവാദം ആരംഭിച്ചു:

THEN Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretching out his hand, began his defence:

2 “അഗ്രിപ്പാരാജാവേ, യെഹൂദരുടെ എല്ലാ ആരോപണങ്ങൾക്കുമെതിരായി, അങ്ങയുടെമുമ്പിൽ നിന്നുകൊണ്ട് പ്രതിവാദം നടത്താൻ ഇന്ന് എനിക്ക് അവസരം ലഭിച്ചതിൽ, ഞാൻ എന്നെത്തന്നെ ഭാഗ്യവാൻ എന്നു കരുതുന്നു.

I count myself happy, king Agrippa, that I am about to address my defence to thee this day concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews:

3 പ്രത്യേകിച്ചു യെഹൂദരുടെ ആചാരങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും അവരുടെ മധ്യേയുള്ള തർക്കവിതർക്കങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും അങ്ങ് വളരെ പരിചിതനാണല്ലോ. ആകയാൽ എനിക്കു പറയാനുള്ളതു ക്ഷമയോടെ കേൾക്കണമെന്നു ഞാൻ താഴ്മയായി അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

especially as thou art skilled both in all the customs, and questions which respect the Jews: wherefore I beg the favour of thee to hear me patiently.

4 “ജീവിതാരംഭംമുതൽ, ബാല്യത്തിൽ സ്വദേശത്തിലും തുടർന്ന് ജെറുശലേമിലും ഞാൻ ഏതുവിധമാണ് ജീവിച്ചുപോന്നിട്ടുള്ളത് എന്ന് എല്ലാ യെഹൂദർക്കും അറിവുള്ളതാണ്.

The manner of my life even from my youth, which from its beginning was spent amidst my own nation at Jerusalem, know indeed all the Jews;

5 ഒരു പരീശനായി, ഞങ്ങളുടെ മതത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവുമധികം നിഷ്ഠ പുലർത്തുന്ന വിഭാഗത്തിലാണ് ഞാൻ ജീവിച്ചത്. ദീർഘകാലമായി എന്നെ അറിയുന്ന യെഹൂദർ മനസ്സുവെച്ചാൽ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു സാക്ഷ്യം പറയാൻകഴിയും.

who previously knew me a long while ago, (if they chose to bear testimony, ) that according to the most precise sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

6 ദൈവം ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർക്കു നൽകിയ വാഗ്ദാനത്തിലുള്ള എന്റെ പ്രത്യാശയാണ് ഞാൻ ഇന്നു വിസ്തരിക്കപ്പെടാനുള്ള കാരണം.

And this moment for the hope of the promise made of God to our fathers am I standing here to be judged:

7 ഞങ്ങളുടെ പന്ത്രണ്ട് ഗോത്രങ്ങളും രാപകൽ ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ ദൈവത്തെ ആരാധിച്ചുപോരുന്നത് ഈ വാഗ്ദാനം പ്രാപിക്കാമെന്ന പ്രത്യാശയോടെയാണ്. അല്ലയോ രാജാവേ, ഈ പ്രത്യാശനിമിത്തമാണ് യെഹൂദർ എന്റെമേൽ കുറ്റം ചുമത്തുന്നത്.

which promise our twelve tribes, with fervour night and day worshipping God, hope to attain. For which hope, king Agrippa, I am criminated by the Jews.

8 ദൈവം മരിച്ചവരെ ഉയിർപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നതു വിശ്വാസയോഗ്യമല്ല എന്നു നിങ്ങൾക്കു തോന്നാൻ കാരണം എന്ത്?

What! is it judged a thing incredible by you, that God should raise the dead?

9 “നസറായനായ യേശുവിന്റെ നാമത്തിനു വിരോധമായി എന്നാൽ കഴിവതെല്ലാം ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് ഞാനും ചിന്തിച്ചിരുന്നു;

I indeed then thought in myself, that I ought to do many things in opposition to the name of Jesus the Nazarean.

10 ജെറുശലേമിൽ ഞാൻ ചെയ്തതും അതുതന്നെ. പുരോഹിതമുഖ്യന്മാരുടെ അധികാരപത്രം വാങ്ങി ഞാൻ അനേകം വിശുദ്ധരെ തടവിലാക്കുകയും, അവരെ നിഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതിന് എന്റെ സമ്മതം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Which also I did at Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were killed, I gave my vote against them.

11 ഞാൻ പലതവണ യെഹൂദപ്പള്ളികൾതോറും ചെന്ന് അവരെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുകയും ദൈവദൂഷണം ചെയ്യാൻ നിർബന്ധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അവർക്കെതിരേയുള്ള കോപം തലയ്ക്കു പിടിച്ചിട്ട്, അവരെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കാനായി ഞാൻ വിദേശനഗരങ്ങളിലും പോയിരുന്നു.

And in every synagogue oftentimes punishing them, I compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly maddened with rage against them, I persecuted them even to the cities that are without.

12 “അങ്ങനെയുള്ള ഒരു യാത്രയിൽ, ഞാൻ പുരോഹിതമുഖ്യന്മാരിൽനിന്ന് അധികാരവും ആജ്ഞയും വാങ്ങി ദമസ്കോസിലേക്കു പോകുകയായിരുന്നു.

In which pursuits, even as I was going to Damascus with authority and a commission from the chief priests,

13 അല്ലയോ രാജാവേ, ഉച്ചയോടടുത്ത സമയം, ഞാൻ വഴിയിലൂടെ പോകുമ്പോൾ ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു സൂര്യനെക്കാൾ ഉജ്ജ്വലമായ ഒരു പ്രകാശം എന്റെയും എന്റെ സഹയാത്രികരുടെയും ചുറ്റും മിന്നുന്നതുകണ്ടു.

at midday, O king, I saw on the road a light from heaven, beyond the splendour of the sun, shining around myself and those who were travelling with me.

14 ഞങ്ങളെല്ലാവരും നിലത്തു വീണുപോയി; ‘ശൗലേ, ശൗലേ, നീ എന്നെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്നതെന്ത്? ആണിയിൽ തൊഴിക്കുന്നതു നിനക്കു ഹാനികരമാണ്,’ എന്ന് എബ്രായഭാഷയിൽ പറയുന്ന ഒരു അശരീരി ഞാൻ കേട്ടു.

And as we were all fallen prostrate on the earth, I heard a voice speaking to me, and saving in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is difficult for thee to kick against the goads.

15 “അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ, ‘അങ്ങ് ആരാകുന്നു, കർത്താവേ?’ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. “‘നീ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്ന യേശുവാണു ഞാൻ,’ കർത്താവ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

Then I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he replied, I am Jesus whom thou art persecuting.

16 ‘നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിവർന്നുനിൽക്കുക; നീ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കണ്ടതിനും ഇനി നിനക്കു കാണിച്ചുതരാനുള്ളതിനും നിന്നെ ഒരു ശുശ്രൂഷകനും സാക്ഷിയുമാക്കേണ്ടതിനാണു ഞാൻ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായത്.

Notwithstanding, arise, and stand on thy feet: for to this end have I appeared to thee, to ordain thee both a minister and a witness of the things which thou hast seen, and of those which I will shew thee;

17 നിന്റെ സ്വജനത്തിൽനിന്നും സ്വജനം അല്ലാത്തവരിൽനിന്നും ഞാൻ നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും.

delivering thee both from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom now I send thee,

18 അവരുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ തുറക്കാനും അവരെ ഇരുട്ടിൽനിന്ന് പ്രകാശത്തിലേക്കും സാത്താന്റെ അധികാരത്തിൽനിന്ന് ദൈവത്തിലേക്കും തിരിക്കാനും, അങ്ങനെ എന്നിലുള്ള വിശ്വാസത്താൽ അവർക്കു പാപക്ഷമയും വിശുദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ സ്ഥാനവും ലഭിക്കാനും ഞാൻ നിന്നെ അവരുടെ അടുത്തേക്കയയ്ക്കുന്നു.’

to open their eyes, to convert them from darkness to light, and from the dominion of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins, and an inheritance with those who are sanctified by faith which is in me.

19 “അതുകൊണ്ട് അഗ്രിപ്പാരാജാവേ, ഞാൻ സ്വർഗീയദർശനത്തോട് അനുസരണക്കേടുകാണിച്ചില്ല.

Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision:

20 ഒന്നാമത് ദമസ്കോസിലുള്ളവരോടും പിന്നെ ജെറുശലേംനഗരത്തിലും യെഹൂദ്യപ്രദേശത്തെങ്ങുമുള്ളവരോടും തുടർന്ന് യെഹൂദേതരരോടും അവർ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെട്ടു ദൈവത്തിലേക്കു തിരിയണമെന്നും, അവരുടെ മാനസാന്തരം പ്രവൃത്തികളിലൂടെ തെളിയിക്കണമെന്നും ഞാൻ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

but preached first to those at Damascus, and Jerusalem, and to all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, practicing works worthy of repentance.

21 ഇതാണ് യെഹൂദന്മാർ ദൈവാലയാങ്കണത്തിൽവെച്ച് എന്നെ പിടിച്ചു കൊല്ലാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചതിന് കാരണമായത്.

Because of these things, the Jews seizing me in the temple, attempted to kill me on the spot.

22 ഈ ദിവസംവരെ ദൈവത്തിൽനിന്ന് സഹായം ലഭിച്ചതിനാൽ ഇവിടെ നിന്നുകൊണ്ട് ചെറിയവരോടും വലിയവരോടും ഒരുപോലെ സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുന്നു.

Having however obtained help from God, unto this day, I stand witnessing both to small and great, saying nothing but what both the prophets and Moses said should come to pass:

23 ക്രിസ്തു കഷ്ടമനുഭവിക്കുമെന്നും മരിച്ചവരിൽനിന്ന് ആദ്യനായി ഉയിർത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റ് സ്വന്തം ജനമായ യെഹൂദർക്കും ഇതരർക്കും പ്രകാശം വിളംബരംചെയ്യുമെന്നും ആണ് ഈ സന്ദേശം. ഭാവിയിൽ സംഭവിക്കുമെന്ന് മോശയും മറ്റു പ്രവാചകന്മാരും പറഞ്ഞതിനപ്പുറമായി ഒന്നുംതന്നെ ഞാൻ പറയുന്നില്ല.”

that the Messiah should suffer, and that he being the first who should rise from the dead, should display light to the people, and to the Gentiles.

24 പൗലോസ് ഇങ്ങനെ പ്രതിവാദിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഫെസ്തൊസ് ഉച്ചത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞു, “പൗലോസേ, നിനക്കു ഭ്രാന്താണ്. നിന്റെ വിദ്യാബഹുത്വം നിന്നെ ഭ്രാന്തനാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.”

As thus he was proceeding in his defence, Festus with a loud voice said, Paul, thou art raving; much reading hath driven thee to madness.

25 അതിനു പൗലോസ്: “ബഹുമാന്യനായ ഫെസ്തൊസേ, എനിക്കു ഭ്രാന്തില്ല; ഞാൻ പറയുന്നത് സത്യവും യുക്തിസഹവുമാണ്.

But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but utter words of truth and sobriety.

26 രാജാവിന് ഈ കാര്യങ്ങൾ നന്നായി അറിയാവുന്നതുകൊണ്ട്, എനിക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു സ്വതന്ത്രമായി സംസാരിക്കാം. ഇത് ഏതോ ഒരു കോണിൽ നടന്ന കാര്യമല്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഇത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശ്രദ്ധയിൽപ്പെടാതെ പോയിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് എനിക്കുറപ്പുണ്ട്.

For the king is well acquainted with these things, before whom also I speak with the greatest freedom. For I am persuaded that none of these events have escaped his notice; for this thing was not done in a corner.

27 അഗ്രിപ്പാരാജാവേ, അങ്ങു പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നോ? വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നെന്ന് എനിക്കറിയാം.”

King Agrippa! believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

28 അപ്പോൾ അഗ്രിപ്പാ പൗലോസിനോട്, “ഈ അൽപ്പസമയത്തിനുള്ളിൽ എന്നെ ഒരു ക്രിസ്ത്യാനിയാക്കാമെന്നാണോ നീ ചിന്തിക്കുന്നത്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

Then Agrippa said to Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

29 അതിനു പൗലോസ്, “അൽപ്പസമയത്തിനുള്ളിലോ അധികസമയത്തിനുള്ളിലോ, എങ്ങനെയായാലും, അങ്ങുമാത്രമല്ല, ഇന്ന് എന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവരും, ഈ ചങ്ങലയൊഴികെ, മറ്റെല്ലാറ്റിലും എന്നെപ്പോലെയായിത്തീരണം എന്നു ഞാൻ ദൈവത്തോടു പ്രാർഥിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.

And Paul replied, would to God, that not only thou, but also that all who are hearing me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these chains.

30 രാജാവും ഭരണാധികാരിയും ബർന്നീക്കയും അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നവരും എഴുന്നേറ്റു.

So when he had thus spoken, the king arose, and the governor, and Bernice, and they who sat with him,

31 അവർ മുറി വിട്ടുപോകുമ്പോൾ, “ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ മരണത്തിനോ തടവിനോ അർഹമായതൊന്നും ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല” എന്നു പരസ്പരം പറഞ്ഞു.

and retiring, conversed together, saying, This man hath done nothing worthy of death, or of chains.

32 അഗ്രിപ്പാ ഫെസ്തൊസിനോട്, “ഇയാൾ കൈസറുടെമുമ്പാകെ മേൽവിചാരണയ്ക് അപേക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ ഇയാളെ വിട്ടയയ്ക്കാമായിരുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And Agrippa said to Festus, This man might have been discharged, if he had not appealed to Caesar.
