2 രാജാക്കന്മാർ 6
1 പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാർ എലീശയോട്: “നമ്മൾ ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലം വളരെ ഇടുങ്ങിയതാണ്.
And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell before thee is too strait for us.
2 ഞങ്ങൾ യോർദാനിലേക്കു ചെന്ന് ഓരോരുത്തനും ഓരോ മരം വെട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് നമ്മൾക്ക് ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടുന്നതിന് ഒരിടം ഉണ്ടാക്കാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. “പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ,” പ്രവാചകൻ അനുവാദം നൽകി.
Let us go, we pray thee, to the Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he said, Go.
3 “ദയചെയ്ത് അടിയങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ അങ്ങും പോരുമോ!” അവരിൽ ഒരുവൻ ചോദിച്ചു. “പോരാം,” എന്ന് എലീശാ മറുപടികൊടുത്തു.
And one said, Consent, I pray thee, to go with thy servants. And he said, I will go.
4 അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം അവരോടൊപ്പംപോയി. അവർ യോർദാൻ നദിക്കരികിൽ ചെന്ന് മരം വെട്ടാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
And he went with them. And they came to the Jordan and cut down the trees.
5 അവരിൽ ഒരുവൻ മരം വെട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ, കോടാലി ഊരി വെള്ളത്തിൽ വീണു. “അയ്യോ! യജമാനനേ, ഞാനതു വായ്പ വാങ്ങിയതായിരുന്നു!” എന്ന് അയാൾ നിലവിളിച്ചു.
And it came to pass as one was felling a beam, that the iron fell into the water; and he cried and said, Alas, master, and it was borrowed!
6 “അത് എവിടെയാണു വീണത്?” ദൈവപുരുഷൻ ചോദിച്ചു. അയാൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആ സ്ഥലം കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തപ്പോൾ എലീശാ ഒരു കമ്പുവെട്ടി അവിടേക്കെറിഞ്ഞു; കോടാലി പൊന്തിവന്നു.
And the man of God said, Where did it fall? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither, and made the iron to swim.
7 “അതെടുത്തുകൊള്ളൂ,” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു. ആ മനുഷ്യൻ കൈനീട്ടി അതെടുത്തു.
And he said, Take [it] up to thee. And he put out his hand and took it.
8 ഒരിക്കൽ അരാംരാജാവും ഇസ്രായേലുമായി യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായി. അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ സൈനികോദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരുമായി കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചശേഷം, “ഞാൻ ഇന്നയിന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ കൂടാരമടിക്കും” എന്നു തീരുമാനിച്ചു.
And the king of Syria warred against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place [shall be] my camp.
9 എന്നാൽ ദൈവപുരുഷൻ ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവിനോട്: “ആ സ്ഥലത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകാതെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക; അരാമ്യർ അവിടേക്കു ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്നുണ്ട്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.
And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place, for thither the Syrians are come down.
10 അതിനാൽ ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവ്, ദൈവപുരുഷൻ സൂചിപ്പിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തു കടക്കാതെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു. വീണ്ടും പലതവണ എലീശാ രാജാവിന് ഈ വിധം മുന്നറിയിപ്പു കൊടുത്തു. അതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹം അവിടങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം സുരക്ഷിതനായിരുന്നു.
And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and he was on his guard there. [That took place] not once, nor twice.
11 ഇത് അരാംരാജാവിനെ കോപാകുലനാക്കി. അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ സൈനികോദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെയെല്ലാം വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരോട്: “നമ്മിൽ ആരാണ് ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവിന്റെ പക്ഷക്കാരനെന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ പറഞ്ഞുതരികയില്ലേ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
And the heart of the king of Syria was troubled because of this thing; and he called his servants, and said to them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
12 “യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ! നമ്മിൽ ആരുമല്ല. ഇസ്രായേലിലെ പ്രവാചകനായ എലീശയാണ്. അങ്ങ് ശയനഗൃഹത്തിൽ ഉച്ചരിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവിനെ അറിയിക്കുന്നത്,” എന്ന് അവരിലൊരാൾ പറഞ്ഞു.
And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
13 “പോയി, അയാളെവിടെയെന്നു കണ്ടുപിടിക്കുക; ഞാൻ ആളയച്ച് അവനെ പിടിപ്പിക്കും,” എന്നു രാജാവു കൽപ്പിച്ചു. “അദ്ദേഹം ദോഥാനിലുണ്ട്,” എന്ന് രാജാവിനു വിവരംകിട്ടി.
And he said, Go and see where he is, and I will send and fetch him. And it was told him saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
14 ഉടനെ അയാൾ കുതിരകളെയും രഥങ്ങളെയും വലിയൊരുകൂട്ടം സൈന്യത്തെയും അങ്ങോട്ടയച്ചു. അവർ രാത്രിയിൽച്ചെന്ന് ആ പട്ടണം വളഞ്ഞു.
And he sent thither horses and chariots, and a great host, and they came by night and surrounded the city.
15 പിറ്റേന്നു പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ ഭൃത്യൻ ഉണർന്നു വെളിയിൽ വന്നപ്പോൾ കുതിരകളും രഥങ്ങളുമായി ഒരു സൈന്യം പട്ടണം വളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതായിക്കണ്ടു. “അയ്യോ! യജമാനനേ! നാം എന്തുചെയ്യും?” എന്ന് അയാൾ നിലവിളിച്ചു.
And when the attendant of the man of God rose early and went forth, behold, an army surrounded the city, with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 “ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ട; നമ്മോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവർ അവരോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവരെക്കാൾ അധികമാണ്,” എന്നു പ്രവാചകൻ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said, Fear not, for they that are with us are more than they that are with them.
17 “യഹോവേ, ഇവൻ കാണുന്നതിനായി ഇവന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറക്കണേ!” എന്ന് എലീശാ പ്രാർഥിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ ആ ഭൃത്യന്റെ കണ്ണുതുറന്നു. ആഗ്നേയരഥങ്ങളും കുതിരകളുംകൊണ്ടു മല നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതായി അയാൾ കണ്ടു.
And Elisha prayed and said, Jehovah, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 ശത്രുക്കൾ എലീശയുടെ അടുത്തേക്കുവന്നപ്പോൾ, “യഹോവേ, ഈ സൈന്യത്തെ അന്ധരാക്കണമേ” എന്ന് എലീശാ പ്രാർഥിച്ചു. എലീശാ പ്രാർഥിച്ചതുപോലെ യഹോവ അവരെയെല്ലാം അന്ധരാക്കി.
And they came down to him; and Elisha prayed to Jehovah and said, Smite this nation, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 എലീശാ അവരോട്: “വഴി ഇതല്ല, നഗരവും ഇതല്ല, എന്റെകൂടെ വരിക. നിങ്ങൾ തെരയുന്ന മനുഷ്യന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുപോകാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അദ്ദേഹം അവരെ ശമര്യയിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി.
And Elisha said to them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them to Samaria.
20 അവർ നഗരത്തിലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ “യഹോവേ, ഇവർ കാണത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഇവരുടെ കണ്ണു തുറക്കണേ!” എന്ന് എലീശാ പ്രാർഥിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ അവരുടെ കണ്ണുതുറന്നു. തങ്ങൾ ശമര്യയുടെ നടുവിലാണെന്ന് അവർ കണ്ടു.
And it came to pass when they entered into Samaria, that Elisha said, Jehovah, open the eyes of these [men] that they may see. And Jehovah opened their eyes, and they saw, and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
21 ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവ് അവരെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ “എന്റെ പിതാവേ! ഞാൻ ഇവരെ വെട്ടിക്കളയട്ടെ? ഇവരെ വെട്ടിക്കളയട്ടെ?” എന്നു എലീശയോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
And the king of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite? shall I smite [them]?
22 “അവരെ കൊല്ലരുത്. നിന്റെ സ്വന്തവാളും വില്ലുംകൊണ്ട് കീഴ്പ്പെടുത്തിയ ആളുകളെ നീ കൊല്ലുമോ? അവർ തിന്നുകുടിച്ച് തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുന്നതിന് അവർക്ക് അപ്പവും വെള്ളവും കൊടുക്കുക,” എന്ന് എലീശാ പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said, Thou shalt not smite [them]: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
23 അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം അവർക്കുവേണ്ടി വലിയൊരു വിരുന്നൊരുക്കി. അവർ തിന്നുകുടിച്ചു തൃപ്തരായശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം അവരെ യാത്രയാക്കി. അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി. അങ്ങനെ അരാമിൽനിന്നുള്ള സൈന്യസമൂഹം അതിൽപ്പിന്നെ ഇസ്രായേൽദേശത്തേക്കു വരാതായി.
And he prepared a great repast for them, and they ate and drank; and he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
24 കുറച്ചുനാൾ കഴിഞ്ഞ് അരാംരാജാവായ ബെൻ-ഹദദ് തന്റെ മുഴുവൻ സൈന്യത്തെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂട്ടി ശമര്യയ്ക്കെതിരേവന്ന് ആ പട്ടണം വളഞ്ഞു.
And it came to pass after this that Ben-Hadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.
25 ശമര്യാപട്ടണത്തിൽ മഹാക്ഷാമമുണ്ടായി. ഒരു കഴുതത്തലയ്ക്ക് എൺപതു വെള്ളിക്കാശും കാൽകബ് പയറിന്റെതോടിന് അഞ്ചു വെള്ളിക്കാശും വില കയറുമാറ് ഉപരോധം നീണ്ടുനിന്നു.
And there was a great famine in Samaria; and behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was worth eighty silver-pieces, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung five silver-pieces.
26 ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവ് മതിലിന്മേൽക്കൂടി നടന്നുപോകുമ്പോൾ ഒരു സ്ത്രീ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ! രക്ഷിക്കണമേ!” എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു.
And it came to pass as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman to him saying, Help, my lord O king!
27 “യഹോവ നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ എങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കും? മെതിക്കളത്തിൽനിന്നോ? മുന്തിരിച്ചക്കിൽനിന്നോ?” എന്ന് രാജാവു ചോദിച്ചു.
And he said, If Jehovah do not help thee, whence should I help thee? Out of the threshing-floor, or out of the winepress?
28 പിന്നീട് അദ്ദേഹം: “എന്താണു നിന്റെ സങ്കടം?” എന്നന്വേഷിച്ചു. അവൾ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ഈ സ്ത്രീ എന്നോട്: ‘നിന്റെ മകനെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക; നമുക്കിന്ന് അവനെ തിന്നാം; നാളെ നമുക്ക് എന്റെ മകനെ പാകപ്പെടുത്തി തിന്നാം!’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And the king said to her, What aileth thee? And she said, This woman said to me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to-day, and we will eat my son to-morrow.
29 അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങൾ എന്റെ മകനെ അറത്തു വേവിച്ചുതിന്നു. അടുത്തദിവസം ഞാൻ അവളോട്: ‘നിന്റെ മകനെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക; നമുക്കവനെ പാകമാക്കാം’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാൽ അവൾ അവനെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.”
And we boiled my son, and ate him: and I said to her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him; and she has hidden her son.
30 ആ സ്ത്രീയുടെ വാക്കുകൾ കേട്ടപ്പോൾ രാജാവു വസ്ത്രംകീറി. അദ്ദേഹം മതിലിന്മേൽക്കൂടി നടന്നുപോകുകയായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ചാക്കുശീലയാണ് അടിവസ്ത്രമായി ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ജനങ്ങൾ കണ്ടു.
And it came to pass when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his garments; and he was passing by upon the wall, and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
31 “ശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ എലീശയുടെ തല ഇന്ന് അവന്റെ കഴുത്തിനുമുകളിൽ ഇരുന്നാൽ ദൈവം എന്നോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ!” എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.
And he said, God do so, and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall remain on him this day!
32 ആ സമയം എലീശാ തന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. പട്ടണനേതാക്കന്മാരും അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം ഇരുന്നിരുന്നു. രാജാവു തന്റെ ദൂതനെ മുൻപേ അയച്ചു. എന്നാൽ അയാൾ വന്നെത്തുന്നതിനുമുമ്പേ എലീശാ പട്ടണനേതാക്കന്മാരോട്: “ഈ കൊലപാതകി എന്റെ തല അറക്കാനായി ഒരുവനെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു നിങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നില്ലേ? നോക്കൂ, ആ ദൂതൻ വരുമ്പോൾ കതക് അടച്ചേക്കുക, അത് അവനെതിരേ അടഞ്ഞുതന്നെ കിടക്കട്ടെ! അവന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ കാലടിശബ്ദവും അവന്റെ പിന്നിൽ ഉണ്ടല്ലോ?” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him. And [the king] sent a man before him. Before the messenger came to him, he himself said to the elders, Do ye see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? See, when the messenger comes; shut the door, and keep him off with the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?
33 എലീശാ അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ ദൂതൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കലെത്തി. “ഈ വിപത്ത് യഹോവയിൽനിന്ന് വന്നു; ഞാൻ എന്തിന് ഇനി യഹോവയ്ക്കായി കാത്തിരിക്കണം?” എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു.
And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down to him. And [the king] said, Behold, this evil is of Jehovah: why should I wait for Jehovah any longer?
