2 രാജാക്കന്മാർ 5

1 നയമാൻ അരാംരാജാവിന്റെ സൈന്യാധിപനായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം മുഖാന്തരം യഹോവ അരാമിനു വിജയം നൽകിയിരുന്നതിനാൽ തന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ അദ്ദേഹം മഹാനും ബഹുമാന്യനുമായിത്തീർന്നു. നയമാൻ പരാക്രമശാലിയെങ്കിലും കുഷ്ഠരോഗിയായിരുന്നു.

And Na'aman, the captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man before his Lord, and highly honored; because by him had the Lord given victory unto Syria: and this man was valiant in war, [but] a leper.

2 അരാമിൽനിന്നുള്ള കവർച്ചപ്പടകൾ വന്നിരുന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ ഇസ്രായേലിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു ബാലികയെ അടിമയായി പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്നു. അവൾ നയമാന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ പരിചാരികയായിത്തീർന്നു.

And the Syrians had gone out in predatory troops, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Na'aman's wife.

3 “എന്റെ യജമാനൻ ശമര്യയിലെ പ്രവാചകനെ ഒന്നു ചെന്നു കണ്ടിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ! അദ്ദേഹം യജമാനന്റെ കുഷ്ഠരോഗം സൗഖ്യമാക്കുമായിരുന്നു,” എന്ന് അവൾ തന്റെ യജമാനത്തിയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

And she said unto her mistress, Oh that my Lord were but before the prophet that is in Samaria! then would he heal him of his leprosy.

4 നയമാൻ തന്റെ യജമാനനെ സമീപിച്ച് ഇസ്രായേൽക്കാരി പെൺകുട്ടി പറഞ്ഞ വിവരം അറിയിച്ചു.

And he went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus hath spoken the maiden that is from the land of Israel.

5 “നീ പോയിവരിക,” അരാംരാജാവ് പറഞ്ഞു. “ഞാൻ ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവിന് ഒരു കത്തു തരാം.” അങ്ങനെ തന്റെ കൈവശം പത്തു താലന്തു വെള്ളിയും ആറായിരം ശേക്കേൽ സ്വർണവും പത്തുകൂട്ടം വസ്ത്രവും എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് നയമാൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of garments.

6 ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവിനെ ഏൽപ്പിക്കാനായി അരാംരാജാവെഴുതിയ കത്തും അദ്ദേഹം എടുത്തിരുന്നു. “ഈ കത്തുമായി വരുന്ന എന്റെ ഭൃത്യൻ നയമാന്റെ കുഷ്ഠരോഗം അങ്ങു മാറ്റിക്കൊടുക്കാനായി ഞാൻ അയാളെ അയയ്ക്കുന്നു,” എന്ന് അതിൽ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which said, And now when this letter cometh unto thee, behold, I have sent to thee Na'aman my servant, that thou mayest heal him of his leprosy.

7 ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവ് ആ കത്തു വായിച്ച ഉടൻ വസ്ത്രംകീറി, “ഞാൻ ദൈവമോ? ജീവൻ എടുക്കാനും കൊടുക്കാനും എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? കുഷ്ഠം മാറ്റിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നതിനായി ഒരുവനെ എന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് എന്തിനാണ് ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്? അയാൾ എന്നോട് ഒരു ശണ്ഠയ്ക്കുള്ള കാരണം തേടുന്നത് ഏതുവിധമെന്നു നോക്കുക!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this one doth send unto me to heal a man of his leprosy? for know to a certainty, I pray you, and see that he but seeketh a quarrel against me.

8 ഇസ്രായേൽരാജാവ് വസ്ത്രം കീറിയെന്ന് ദൈവപുരുഷനായ എലീശാ കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം രാജാവിന് ഒരു സന്ദേശം കൊടുത്തയച്ചു: “എന്തിന് അങ്ങു സ്വന്തവസ്ത്രം കീറി? ആ മനുഷ്യൻ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരട്ടെ, അപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേലിൽ ഒരു പ്രവാചകനുണ്ടെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് മനസ്സിലാകും.”

And it happened, when Elisha' the man of God heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him but come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 അങ്ങനെ നയമാൻ തന്റെ കുതിരകളും രഥങ്ങളുമായി ചെന്ന് എലീശയുടെ വീടിന്റെ പടിവാതിൽക്കൽ നിന്നു.

And Na'aman came with his horses and with his chariot, and remained at the door of the house of Elisha'.

10 “താങ്കൾ പോയി യോർദാനിൽ ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം മുങ്ങുക; അപ്പോൾ താങ്കളുടെ ശരീരം പഴയതുപോലെയായി, താങ്കൾ ശുദ്ധനായിത്തീരും,” എന്നു പറയാൻ എലീശാ ഒരു സന്ദേശവാഹകനെ അയച്ചു.

And Elisha' sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and bathe seven times in the Jordan, and thy flesh shall be restored [healthy] to thee, and thou shalt become clean.

11 പക്ഷേ, നയമാൻ കോപാകുലനായി അവിടെനിന്നു യാത്രയായി. “അദ്ദേഹം ഇറങ്ങിവന്ന് എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ നിൽക്കുമെന്നും, തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ നാമം വിളിച്ചപേക്ഷിക്കുമെന്നും, കുഷ്ഠം ബാധിച്ച ശരീരഭാഗങ്ങൾക്കുമീതേ കൈവീശി എന്റെ കുഷ്ഠരോഗം സൗഖ്യമാക്കുമെന്നും ഞാൻ വിചാരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

But Na'aman became wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I had thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and swing his hand over the place, and heal the leper.

12 ദമസ്കോസിലെ നദികളായ അബാനയും പർപ്പരും ഇസ്രായേലിലുള്ള ഏതു വെള്ളത്തെക്കാളും മെച്ചമായതല്ലേ? എനിക്ക് അവയിൽ കുളിച്ചു ശുദ്ധനായിക്കൂടേ?” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ക്രോധത്തോടെ അദ്ദേഹം സ്ഥലംവിട്ടു.

Are not Amanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not bathe in them, and become clean? and he turned and went away in a rage.

13 നയമാന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽച്ചെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “പിതാവേ, പ്രവാചകൻ വലിയൊരുകാര്യം ചെയ്യാൻ അങ്ങയോടു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ അങ്ങ് അതു ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നില്ലേ? കുളിച്ചു ശുദ്ധനാകുക എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറയുമ്പോൾ എത്രയധികം സന്തോഷപൂർവം അതു ചെയ്യേണ്ടതാണ്” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

And his servants came near, and spoke unto him, and they said, My father, if the prophet had bidden thee a great thing, wouldst thou not do it? how much rather then, when he hath said to thee, Bathe, and become clean?

14 അതിനാൽ ദൈവപുരുഷൻ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ അദ്ദേഹം യോർദാനിൽ പോയി ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം മുങ്ങി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശരീരം പൂർവസ്ഥിതിയിലായി; ഒരു ചെറുബാലന്റെ ശരീരംപോലെ അത് ഓജസ്സുള്ളതായി; രോഗവിമുക്തമായിത്തീർന്നു.

Then went he down, and dived seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God: and his flesh was restored [healthy] like the flesh of a little boy, and he became clean.

15 പിന്നെ നയമാനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരും ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു. നയമാൻ ദൈവപുരുഷന്റെമുമ്പിൽ നിന്നുകൊണ്ട്: “ഇസ്രായേലിൽ അല്ലാതെ ലോകത്തിൽ മറ്റെങ്ങും ഒരു ദൈവമില്ലെന്ന് ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു. ദയവായി അങ്ങയുടെ ദാസനായ എന്നിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു സമ്മാനം സ്വീകരിക്കണേ!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And he returned to the man of God, he with all his camp, and came and stood before him, and said, Behold, now I know that there is no god on all the earth, but in Israel; and now, I pray thee, take a present from thy servant.

16 “ഞാൻ സേവിച്ചു നിൽക്കുന്ന യഹോവയാണെ, ഞാൻ യാതൊരു സമ്മാനവും വാങ്ങുകയില്ല,” എന്നു പ്രവാചകൻ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു. നയമാൻ വളരെ നിർബന്ധിച്ചിട്ടും അദ്ദേഹം നിരസിക്കുകയാണു ചെയ്തത്.

But he said, As the Lord liveth before whom I have stood, I will take none: and he urged him to take it; but he refused.

17 അപ്പോൾ നയമാൻ പറഞ്ഞു: “അങ്ങ് യാതൊന്നും സ്വീകരിക്കുകയില്ലെങ്കിൽ, രണ്ടു കോവർകഴുതകൾക്കു ചുമക്കാവുന്നത്ര മണ്ണു ദയവായി അടിയനു തരണമേ! അടിയൻ ഇനിമേലാൽ യഹോവയ്ക്കല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു ദേവനും ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളോ മറ്റു യാഗങ്ങളോ അർപ്പിക്കുകയില്ല.

And Na'aman said, If [thou wilt] not, [then] let there be given, I pray thee, unto thy servant two mules' burden of earth; for thy servant will not offer henceforth either burnt-offering or peace-sacrifice unto other gods, except unto the Lord.

18 എന്നാൽ ഈ ഒരു കാര്യത്തിൽ യഹോവ അടിയനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കട്ടെ! എന്റെ യജമാനൻ എന്റെ കൈയിൽ താങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടു രിമ്മോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കുകയും കുമ്പിടുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഞാനും അവിടെ കുമ്പിടേണ്ടതായിവരുന്നു. അക്കാര്യം യഹോവ അടിയനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.”

For this thing may the Lord pardon thy servant, that when my Lord goeth into the house of Rimmon to prostrate himself there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I prostrate myself also in the house of Rimmon: when I prostrate myself in the house of Rimmon, may the Lord pardon thy servant for this thing.

19 “സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോകുക,” എന്ന് എലീശാ പറഞ്ഞു. നയമാൻ അൽപ്പദൂരം യാത്രയായിക്കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ

And he said unto him, Go in peace: so he departed from him some distance.

20 ദൈവപുരുഷനായ എലീശയുടെ ഭൃത്യൻ ഗേഹസി ചിന്തിച്ചു: “ഈ അരാമ്യനായ നയമാൻ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതൊന്നും വാങ്ങിക്കാതെ എന്റെ യജമാനൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വെറുതേ വിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. യഹോവയാണെ, ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ഓടി അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽനിന്ന് എന്തെങ്കിലും വാങ്ങും.”

But Gechazi, the servant of Elisha' the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Na'aman, this Syrian, in not receiving from his hand what he had brought; but, as the Lord liveth, I will run after him, and take some little thing from him.

21 അങ്ങനെ ഗേഹസി വേഗം നയമാന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു. അവൻ തന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ഓടിവരുന്നതു നയമാൻ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം അവനെ എതിരേൽക്കുന്നതിനായി രഥത്തിൽനിന്നിറങ്ങി. “എല്ലാം ശുഭമായിരിക്കുന്നോ,” എന്ന് നയമാൻ ചോദിച്ചു.

So Gechazi hurried after Na'aman; and when Na'aman saw him running after him, he lighted doom from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is [all] well?

22 ഗേഹസി മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “എല്ലാം ശുഭമായിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതു പറയുന്നതിനായി എന്റെ യജമാനൻ എന്നെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു: ‘എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിൽനിന്ന് രണ്ടു പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാർ ഇപ്പോൾ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. അവർക്കുവേണ്ടി ഒരു താലന്തു വെള്ളിയും രണ്ടുകൂട്ടം വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും ദയവായി കൊടുത്താലും!’”

And he said, [all] is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there are come to me from the mountain of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: do give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

23 “തീർച്ചയായും, രണ്ടുതാലന്തു സ്വീകരിച്ചാലും!” എന്നു നയമാൻ പറഞ്ഞു. അത്രയും സ്വീകരിക്കാനായി നയമാൻ ഗേഹസിയെ നിർബന്ധിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം രണ്ടുകൂട്ടം വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ സഹിതം ആ രണ്ടുതാലന്തു വെള്ളി രണ്ടു സഞ്ചിയിലാക്കിക്കെട്ടി. തന്റെ രണ്ടു ഭൃത്യന്മാരുടെ കൈവശം ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. അവർ അത് ഗേഹസിക്കു മുമ്പായി ചുമന്നുകൊണ്ടുപോയി.

And Na'aman said, Give thy assent, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound up two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and he gave them unto his two young men, and they carried them before him.

24 മലയിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ഗേഹസി ആ സാധനങ്ങൾ അവരിൽനിന്നു വാങ്ങി വീട്ടിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെച്ചശേഷം ഭൃത്യന്മാരെ തിരിച്ചയച്ചു; അവർ പോകുകയും ചെയ്തു.

And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he dismissed the men, and they departed.

25 പിന്നെ ഗേഹസി അകത്തുചെന്ന് തന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്നു. “ഗേഹസിയേ! നീ എവിടെപ്പോയിരുന്നു?” എലീശാ ചോദിച്ചു. “അടിയൻ എങ്ങും പോയിരുന്നില്ല,” ഗേഹസി മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha' said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gechazi? And he said, Thy servant went not hither or thither.

26 എലീശാ അയാളോട്: “ആ മനുഷ്യൻ തന്റെ രഥത്തിൽനിന്നിറങ്ങി നിന്നെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടുമ്പോൾ എന്റെ ആത്മാവ് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലേ? പണം സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നതിനോ വസ്ത്രം, ഒലിവുതോട്ടം, മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പ്, ആടുമാടുകൾ, ദാസീദാസന്മാർ എന്നിവ നേടുന്നതിനോ ഉള്ള സമയം ഇതാണോ?

And he said unto him, My mind was not gone, when the man turned round from his chariot to meet thee. Is it a time to take money, and to take garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and men-servants, and maid-servants?

27 അതിനാൽ നയമാന്റെ കുഷ്ഠം നിനക്കും നിന്റെ സന്തതിപരമ്പരയ്ക്കും വിട്ടൊഴിയാതെ എന്നേക്കും പിടിച്ചിരിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഗേഹസി ഹിമംപോലെ വെളുത്തു കുഷ്ഠരോഗിയായിത്തീർന്നു. അയാൾ എലീശയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടുപോയി.

May then the leprosy of Na'aman cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper [as white] as snow.
