2 ദിനവൃത്താന്തം 10
1 രെഹബെയാമിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിക്കുന്നതിന് ഇസ്രായേൽമുഴുവൻ ശേഖേമിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹവും അവിടെയെത്തി.
And Rehobo'am went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.
2 ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാം—അദ്ദേഹം ശലോമോൻരാജാവിന്റെ അടുത്തുനിന്ന് ഓടിപ്പോയി താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഈജിപ്റ്റിലായിരുന്നു—ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് മടങ്ങിയെത്തി.
And it came to pass, when Jerobo'am the son of Nebat heard of it, for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, that Jerobo'am returned out of Egypt.
3 അതിനാൽ ഇസ്രായേൽ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ യൊരോബെയാമിനെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി; അദ്ദേഹവും ഇസ്രായേല്യർ എല്ലാവരുംകൂടി രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കലെത്തി ഇപ്രകാരം ഉണർത്തിച്ചു:
And they sent and called him: and so came Jerobo'am with all Israel and spoke to Rehobo'am, saying,
4 “അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവ് ഭാരമുള്ള ഒരു നുകമാണ് ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയിരുന്നത്; ആകയാൽ, ഇപ്പോൾ അങ്ങ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കഠിനവേലയും അദ്ദേഹം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയിരുന്ന ഭാരമേറിയ നുകവും ലഘുവാക്കിത്തന്നാലും. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ, ഞങ്ങൾ അങ്ങയെ സേവിച്ചുകൊള്ളാം.”
Thy father made our yoke hard; but now do thou make lighter the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
5 “മൂന്നുദിവസത്തിനകം നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്ന് രെഹബെയാം മറുപടികൊടുത്തു. അങ്ങനെ ജനം മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
And he said unto them, After but three days, then return unto me. And the people went away.
6 അതിനുശേഷം, രാജാവ് തന്റെ പിതാവായ ശലോമോനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതകാലംമുഴുവൻ സേവിച്ചുനിന്നിരുന്ന വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുമായി കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചു. “ഞാൻ ഈ ജനത്തോട് എന്ത് മറുപടി പറയണം? നിങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചനയും അഭിപ്രായവും എന്ത്?” എന്ന് രെഹബെയാം അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
Then consulted king Rehobo'am with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, How do you advise that I should return an answer to this people?
7 അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “അങ്ങ് ഈ ജനത്തോടു ദയ കാണിക്കുകയും അവരെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുകയും അവരോട് അനുകൂലമായ മറുപടി പറയുകയും ചെയ്താൽ അവർ എന്നും അങ്ങയുടെ ദാസന്മാരായിരിക്കും,” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
And they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt be kind to this people, and please them, and speak to them good words: then will they be servants unto thee for all times.
8 എന്നാൽ, രെഹബെയാം വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുടെ ഉപദേശം സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല. തന്നോടൊപ്പം വളർന്നവരും തന്നെ സേവിച്ചുനിൽക്കുന്നവരുമായ യുവജനങ്ങളുമായി അദ്ദേഹം കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചു.
But he forsook the counsel which the old men had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and who stood before him.
9 “നിങ്ങളുടെ ഉപദേശം എന്താണ്? ‘നിന്റെ പിതാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയ നുകത്തിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചുതരിക,’ എന്ന് എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഈ ജനത്തോടു നാം എന്തു മറുപടി പറയണം?” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിച്ചു.
And he said unto them, How do you counsel how we should give an answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make lighter the yoke which thy father did put upon us?
10 അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം വളർന്നുവന്ന ആ യുവജനങ്ങൾ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത്: “‘അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ചുമത്തി; അതിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചുതരണം,’ എന്ന് അങ്ങയോടാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട ജനത്തോട് ഈ വിധം പറയണം: ‘എന്റെ ചെറുവിരൽ എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ അരക്കെട്ടിനെക്കാളും വലുപ്പമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.
Then spoke with him the young men that were grown up with him, saying, Thus must thou say unto the people that have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but do thou make it lighter unto us: thus must thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
11 എന്റെ പിതാവ് നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ചുമത്തി; ഞാനതിനെ ഇനിയും കൂടുതൽ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കും. എന്റെ പിതാവു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ, നിങ്ങളെ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും.’”
And now [if] my father hath burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: [if] my father hath chastised you with whips, then will I [do it] with scorpion-thorns.
12 “മൂന്നുദിവസത്തിനുശേഷം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്നു രാജാവു നിർദേശിച്ചിരുന്നതുപോലെ യൊരോബെയാമും സർവജനവും രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു.
When now Jerobo'am and all the people came to Rehobo'am on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Return to me on the third day:
13 വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചന നിരസിച്ച് രാജാവ് ജനത്തോടു വളരെ പരുഷമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.
The king answered them harshly; and king Rehobo'am forsook the counsel of the old men;
14 യുവാക്കന്മാർ നൽകിയ ഉപദേശമനുസരിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം അവരോട്: “എന്റെ പിതാവു നിങ്ങളുടെ നുകത്തെ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കി; ഞാനതിനെ കൂടുതൽ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കും. എന്റെ പിതാവു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And he spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add thereto; my father chastised you with whips, but I will [do it] with scorpion-thorns.
15 ഇങ്ങനെ, രാജാവ് ജനങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല. നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിനോട് ശീലോന്യനായ അഹീയാവിലൂടെ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വാക്കുകൾ നിറവേറുന്നതിന് ഈ സംഭവവികാസം ദൈവഹിതപ്രകാരം ആയിരുന്നു.
And the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was so brought about from God, in order that the Lord might fulfill his word, which he had spoken by means of Achiyahu the Shilonite unto Jerobo'am the son of Nebat.
16 രാജാവു തങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ ചെവിക്കൊള്ളുന്നില്ല എന്നുകണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേൽജനമെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞത്: “ദാവീദിങ്കൽ നമുക്കെന്ത് ഓഹരി? യിശ്ശായിയുടെ പുത്രനിൽ നമുക്കെന്ത് ഓഹരി? ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ. ദാവീദേ, ഇനി സ്വന്തഭവനത്തെ നോക്കിക്കൊള്ളുക!” അങ്ങനെ, ഇസ്രായേൽജനമെല്ലാം താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനങ്ങളിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി.
So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? nor have we an inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel; now, see to thy own house, David. So did all Israel go to their tents.
17 എന്നാൽ, യെഹൂദ്യനഗരങ്ങളിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇസ്രായേല്യർക്ക് രെഹബെയാം രാജാവായി തുടർന്നു.
But as for the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah, over them did Rehobo'am reign.
18 നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ ചുമതല വഹിച്ചിരുന്ന അദോനിരാമിനെ രെഹബെയാംരാജാവ് ഇസ്രായേല്യരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കയച്ചു. എന്നാൽ, അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊന്നു. രെഹബെയാംരാജാവാകട്ടെ, കഷ്ടിച്ച് രഥത്തിലേറി ജെറുശലേമിലേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോന്നു.
Then sent king Rehobo'am Hadoram who was over the tribute; but the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehobo'am made speed with his might to get upon his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 ഇപ്രകാരം, ഇസ്രായേൽ ഇന്നുവരെ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭവനത്തോടുള്ള മാത്സര്യത്തിൽ കഴിയുന്നു.
So did Israel rebel against the house of David unto this day.
