1 ശമൂവേൽ 8

1 ശമുവേൽ വൃദ്ധനായപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ ഇസ്രായേലിനു ന്യായാധിപന്മാരായി നിയമിച്ചു.

When Samuel was nowe become olde, he made his sonnes Iudges ouer Israel.

2 അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യജാതന് യോവേൽ എന്നും രണ്ടാമത്തെ പുത്രന് അബീയാവ് എന്നും പേരായിരുന്നു; അവർ ആയിരുന്നു ബേർ-ശേബയിലെ ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ.

(And the name of his eldest sonne was Ioel, and the name of the second Abiah) euen Iudges in Beer-sheba.

3 ശമുവേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മാർഗം പിൻതുടർന്നില്ല. അവർ ദ്രവ്യാഗ്രഹികളായി കോഴവാങ്ങുകയും ന്യായം അട്ടിമറിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

And his sonnes walked not in his wayes, but turned aside after lucre, and tooke rewards, and peruerted the iudgement.

4 അതിനാൽ ഇസ്രായേലിലെ ഗോത്രത്തലവന്മാർ ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി രാമായിൽ ശമുവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്നു.

Wherefore all the Elders of Israel gathered them together, and came to Samuel vnto Ramah,

5 അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “അങ്ങ് ഇപ്പോൾ വൃദ്ധനായിരിക്കുന്നു; അങ്ങയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ അങ്ങയുടെ മാർഗം പിൻതുടരുന്നില്ല. അതിനാൽ മറ്റു ജനതകൾക്കുള്ളതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങളെ നയിക്കാൻ ഒരു രാജാവിനെ നിയോഗിച്ചുതന്നാലും!” എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

And said vnto him, Beholde, thou art olde, and thy sonnes walke not in thy wayes: make vs nowe a King to iudge vs like all nations.

6 എന്നാൽ “ഞങ്ങളെ നയിക്കാൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്കൊരു രാജാവിനെ തരിക,” എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞത് ശമുവേലിന് അപ്രീതിയായി. അദ്ദേഹം യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർഥിച്ചു.

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Giue vs a King to iudge vs: and Samuel prayed vnto the Lord.

7 യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: “ജനം നിന്നോടു പറയുന്നതെല്ലാം ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകേൾക്കുക! അവർ നിന്നെയല്ല, അവരുടെ രാജാവെന്ന നിലയിൽ എന്നെയാണ് തിരസ്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

And the Lord said vnto Samuel, Heare the voyce of the people in all that they shall say vnto thee: for they haue not cast thee away, but they haue cast me away, that I should not reigne ouer the.

8 ഞാൻ അവരെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് വിടുവിച്ച നാൾമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ അവർ എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ സേവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത് എന്നോടു കാണിച്ച തിന്മതന്നെ അവർ നിന്റെനേരേയും കാണിക്കുന്നു.

As they haue euer done since I brought them out of Egypt euen vnto this day, (and haue forsaken me, and serued other gods) euen so doe they vnto thee.

9 ഇപ്പോൾ അവർ പറയുന്നതു കേൾക്കുക. എന്നിരുന്നാലും അവരെ ഗൗരവപൂർവം താക്കീതു ചെയ്യുക. ഭരിക്കാൻപോകുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ അവകാശങ്ങൾ എന്തെല്ലാമായിരിക്കുമെന്ന് അവരെ അറിയിക്കുക.”

Nowe therefore hearken vnto their voyce: howbeit yet testifie vnto them, and shewe them the maner of ye King that shall reigne ouer them.

10 അങ്ങനെ ഒരു രാജാവിനെ ചോദിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് തന്റെ അടുത്തുവന്ന ജനത്തെ ശമുവേൽ യഹോവയുടെ വാക്കുകളെല്ലാം അറിയിച്ചു.

So Samuel told all the wordes of the Lord vnto the people that asked a King of him.

11 അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കാൻപോകുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ അവകാശങ്ങൾ ഇതൊക്കെ ആയിരിക്കും: അയാൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരെ തന്റെ തേരാളികളും കുതിരച്ചേവകരുമായി നിയോഗിക്കും. അവർക്ക് അയാളുടെ രഥങ്ങൾക്കുമുമ്പിൽ ഓടേണ്ടതായി വരും.

And he saide, This shall be the maner of the King that shall reigne ouer you: he will take your sonnes, and appoint them to his charets, and to be his horsemen, and some shall runne before his charet.

12 ചിലരെ അയാൾ ആയിരങ്ങളുടെയും അൻപതുകളുടെയും അധിപന്മാരായി നിയമിക്കും. മറ്റുചിലരെ തന്റെ നിലം ഉഴുവാനും വിളവു കൊയ്യാനും യുദ്ധത്തിനുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള ആയുധങ്ങൾ നിർമിക്കാനും രഥസാമഗ്രികൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതിനും നിയോഗിക്കും.

Also he will make them his captaines ouer thousands, and captaines ouer fifties, and to eare his ground, and to reape his haruest, and to make instruments of warre, and the thinges that serue for his charets.

13 നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ അയാൾ സുഗന്ധലേപനം നിർമിക്കുന്നതിനും പാചകത്തിനും അപ്പം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതിനും നിയമിക്കും.

He will also take your daughters and make them apoticaries, and cookes, and bakers.

14 നിങ്ങളുടെയെല്ലാം വിശേഷപ്പെട്ട വയലുകളും മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പുകളും ഒലിവുമരത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും അയാൾ നിങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് അപഹരിച്ച് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർക്ക് കൊടുക്കും.

And he will take your fieldes, and your vineyardes, and your best Oliue trees, and giue them to his seruants.

15 നിങ്ങളുടെ ധാന്യവിളവിന്റെയും മുന്തിരിപ്പഴവിളവിന്റെയും ദശാംശം അയാൾ വാങ്ങിച്ച് തന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാർക്കും സേവകർക്കും നൽകും.

And he will take the tenth of your seede, and of your vineyards, and giue it to his Eunuches, and to his seruants.

16 നിങ്ങളുടെ ദാസന്മാരിലും ദാസികളിലും കന്നുകാലികളിലും കഴുതകളിലും ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതിനെയും അയാൾ തന്റെ ഉപയോഗത്തിനായി എടുക്കും.

And he will take your men seruants, and your maide seruants, and the chiefe of your yong men, and your asses, and put them to his worke.

17 അയാൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ ആട്ടിൻപറ്റത്തിൽനിന്നു ദശാംശം എടുക്കും; നിങ്ങൾപോലും അയാളുടെ അടിമകളായിത്തീരും.

He will take the tenth of your sheepe, and ye shall be his seruants.

18 ആ ദിവസം വരുമ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത രാജാവിൽനിന്നുള്ള വിടുതലിനായി നിങ്ങൾ നിലവിളിക്കും, എന്നാൽ അന്ന് യഹോവ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉത്തരമരുളുകയുമില്ല.”

And ye shall crie out at that day, because of your King, whom ye haue chosen you, and the Lord will not heare you at that day.

19 എന്നാൽ ശമുവേലിന്റെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പുകൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാൻ ജനത്തിനു സമ്മതമായില്ല. അവർ പറഞ്ഞു: “അല്ല, ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഞങ്ങൾക്കൊരു രാജാവിനെ വേണം!

But the people would not heare the voyce of Samuel, but did say, Nay, but there shall be a King ouer vs.

20 അപ്പോൾമാത്രമേ ഞങ്ങൾക്കുചുറ്റുമുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ ഞങ്ങളും ആയിത്തീരുകയുള്ളൂ. ഞങ്ങളെ നയിക്കുന്നതിനും ഞങ്ങൾക്കുമുമ്പായി പുറപ്പെട്ട് ഞങ്ങളുടെ യുദ്ധങ്ങൾ നയിക്കുന്നതിനുമായി ഞങ്ങൾക്കൊരു രാജാവിനെ വേണം.”

And we also will be like all other nations, and our King shall iudge vs, and goe out before vs, and fight our battels.

21 ശമുവേൽ ജനത്തിന്റെ വാക്കുകളെല്ലാം കേട്ടുകഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അവയെല്ലാം യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ അറിയിച്ചു.

Therefore when Samuel heard all ye wordes of ye people, he rehearsed the in ye eares of ye Lord.

22 യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “അവരുടെ വാക്കുകേട്ട്, അവർക്കൊരു രാജാവിനെ വാഴിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുക!” എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചു. അതിനുശേഷം ശമുവേൽ ഇസ്രായേൽജനത്തോട്: “ഓരോരുത്തനും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the Lord saide to Samuel, Hearken vnto their voyce, and make them a King. And Samuel said vnto the men of Israel, Goe euery man vnto his citie.
