1 ശമൂവേൽ 20
1 അതിനുശേഷം ദാവീദ് രാമായിലെ നയ്യോത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഓടി യോനാഥാന്റെ അടുത്തെത്തി. “ഞാനെന്തു ചെയ്തു? എന്റെ കുറ്റമെന്ത്? എന്നെ കൊല്ലുന്നതിനു തക്കവണ്ണം ഞാൻ അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവിനോട് എന്തു തെറ്റുചെയ്തു?” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം യോനാഥാനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah. He came to Jonathan and asked, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? How have I sinned against your father, that he wants to take my life?”
2 യോനാഥാൻ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇല്ല, നീ മരിക്കുകയില്ല. എന്റെ പിതാവ് ചെറുതോ വലുതോ ആയ ഏതു കാര്യവും എന്നോടു രഹസ്യമായി ആലോചിക്കാതെ ചെയ്യാറില്ല. പിന്നെ ഇക്കാര്യം അദ്ദേഹം എന്നിൽനിന്ന് എന്തിനു മറയ്ക്കുന്നു? അതിനാൽ ഒരിക്കലും അങ്ങനെ സംഭവിക്കുകയില്ല.”
“Far from it!” Jonathan replied. “You will not die. Indeed, my father does nothing, great or small, without telling me. So why would he hide this matter from me? This cannot be true!”
3 എന്നാൽ ദാവീദ് പിന്നെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “അങ്ങേക്കു ഞാൻ ഏറ്റം പ്രിയമുള്ളവനാണെന്ന് അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവിനു നല്ലതുപോലെ അറിയാം. ‘യോനാഥാൻ ഇക്കാര്യം അറിഞ്ഞ് ദുഃഖിക്കാതിരിക്കാൻ,’ അദ്ദേഹം ഇക്കാര്യം അറിയാതിരിക്കട്ടെ എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം വിചാരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ, ജീവനുള്ള യഹോവയാണെ, അങ്ങാണെ, എനിക്കും മരണത്തിനുമിടയിൽ ഒരടിയകലംമാത്രമേയുള്ളൂ” എന്നു ശപഥംചെയ്തു.
But David again vowed, “Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said, ‘Jonathan must not know of this, or he will be grieved.’ As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”
4 അപ്പോൾ യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിനോട്: “ഞാനെന്തുചെയ്യണമെന്നാണു നീ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്? അതു ഞാൻ ചെയ്തുതരാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you desire, I will do for you.”
5 ദാവീദ് യോനാഥാനോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “നോക്കൂ, നാളെ അമാവാസിയാകുന്നുവല്ലോ? രാജാവിനോടൊപ്പം ഞാനും പന്തിഭോജനം കഴിക്കേണ്ടതാണല്ലോ! എന്നാൽ മറ്റെന്നാൾ സന്ധ്യവരെ വയലിൽ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കാൻ എന്നെ അനുവദിക്കണം.
So David told him, “Look, tomorrow is the New Moon, and I am supposed to dine with the king. Instead, let me go and hide in the field until the third evening from now.
6 അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവ് എന്റെ അസാന്നിധ്യം മനസ്സിലാക്കുകയും എന്നെ അന്വേഷിക്കുകയുംചെയ്താൽ, ‘ബേത്ലഹേമിൽ തന്റെ പിതൃനഗരത്തിൽ തന്റെ കുലത്തിനെല്ലാം ഒരു വാർഷികബലി ഉള്ളതിനാൽ അവിടേക്കു പോകണമെന്ന് ദാവീദ് നിർബന്ധപൂർവം എന്നോട് അനുവാദം ചോദിച്ചു’ എന്നു മറുപടി പറയണം.
If your father misses me at all, tell him, ‘David urgently requested my permission to hurry to Bethlehem, his hometown, because there is an annual sacrifice for his whole clan.’
7 ‘കൊള്ളാം, പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ,’ എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നപക്ഷം അങ്ങയുടെ ദാസനായ ഞാൻ സുരക്ഷിതനാണ്. എന്നാൽ അതിൽ അദ്ദേഹം കോപാകുലനായിത്തീർന്നെങ്കിൽ, അദ്ദേഹം എനിക്കു ദോഷം നിരൂപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് അങ്ങേക്കു മനസ്സിലാക്കാം.
If he says, ‘Good,’ then your servant is safe, but if he is enraged, you will know he has evil intentions.
8 അങ്ങ് ഈ ദാസനോടു കരുണ കാണിക്കണം. നമ്മൾതമ്മിൽ യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ഒരു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ. എന്നിൽ കുറ്റമെന്തെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അങ്ങയുടെ കൈകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ എന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയുക. എന്തിന് അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവിന്റെ കൈയിൽ എന്നെ ഏൽപ്പിക്കണം.”
Therefore deal faithfully with your servant, for you have brought me into a covenant with you before the LORD. If there is iniquity in me, then kill me yourself; why should you bring me to your father?”
9 “ഒരിക്കലും അങ്ങനെ സംഭവിക്കുകയില്ല,” യോനാഥാൻ പ്രതിവചിച്ചു. “എന്റെ പിതാവു നിനക്കു ദോഷം നിരൂപിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിന് ഒരു ചെറുസൂചനയെങ്കിലും കിട്ടിയാൽ ഞാനതു നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ?”
“Never!” Jonathan replied. “If I ever found out that my father had evil intentions against you, would I not tell you?”
10 “എന്നാൽ അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവ് കഠിനമായി സംസാരിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ എന്നെ അത് ആരറിയിക്കും?” എന്നു ദാവീദ് ചോദിച്ചു.
Then David asked Jonathan, “Who will tell me if your father answers you harshly?”
11 “വരൂ, നമുക്കു വയലിലേക്കു പോകാം,” എന്നു യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവരിരുവരും ഒരുമിച്ചു വയലിലേക്കുപോയി.
“Come,” he replied, “let us go out to the field.” So the two of them went out into the field,
12 അവിടെവെച്ച് യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ സാക്ഷി. മറ്റെന്നാൾ ഈ നേരത്തിനകം തീർച്ചയായും ഞാൻ എന്റെ പിതാവിനോട് നിന്നെപ്പറ്റി സംസാരിക്കും. അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു നിന്നോടു പ്രീതിയാണെങ്കിൽ ഞാനക്കാര്യം ആളയച്ചു നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ?
and Jonathan said, “By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will sound out my father by this time tomorrow or the next day. If he is favorable toward you, will I not send for you and tell you?
13 എന്നാൽ മറിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം നിനക്കു ദ്രോഹം നിരൂപിക്കുന്നതായി മനസ്സിലായാൽ ഞാനതു നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കുകയും നിന്നെ സുരക്ഷിതനായി പറഞ്ഞയയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. അല്ലാത്തപക്ഷം യഹോവ എന്നെ കഠിനമായി ശിക്ഷിക്കട്ടെ. യഹോവ എന്റെ പിതാവിനോടുകൂടെയിരുന്നതുപോലെ, നിന്നോടുകൂടെയും ഇരിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.
But if my father intends to bring evil on you, then may the LORD punish me, and ever so severely, if I do not tell you and send you on your way in safety. May the LORD be with you, just as He has been with my father.
14 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതുവരെ, യഹോവയുടെ കരുണയ്ക്കു തുല്യമായ അചഞ്ചലമായ കരുണ നീ എന്നോടു കാണിക്കണം. ഞാൻ മരിച്ചാൽ
And as long as I live, treat me with the LORD’s loving devotion, that I may not die,
15 എന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ നേർക്കു നിന്റെ അചഞ്ചലമായ കരുണ ഒരിക്കലും അറ്റുപോകരുത്; യഹോവ ദാവീദിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളെ ഭൂമിയിൽനിന്ന് സമൂലം ഛേദിച്ചുകളയുന്ന കാലത്തുപോലും.
and do not ever cut off your loving devotion from my household—not even when the LORD cuts off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth.”
16 “അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളോട് യഹോവ കണക്കു ചോദിക്കട്ടെ,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭവനവുമായി ഉടമ്പടിചെയ്തു.
So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May the LORD hold David’s enemies accountable.”
17 യോനാഥാൻ പ്രാണനെപ്പോലെ ദാവീദിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട്, ആ സ്നേഹബന്ധത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ ദാവീദിനെക്കൊണ്ടു വീണ്ടും ശപഥംചെയ്യിച്ചു.
And Jonathan had David reaffirm his vow out of love for him, for Jonathan loved David as he loved himself.
18 അതിനുശേഷം യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “നാളെ അമാവാസിയാണല്ലോ! നിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നതിനാൽ അസാന്നിധ്യം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപ്പെടും.
Then Jonathan said to David, “Tomorrow is the New Moon, and you will be missed if your seat is empty.
19 മറ്റെന്നാൾ സന്ധ്യയോടടുത്ത് ഈ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ നീ ഒളിച്ചിരുന്ന സ്ഥാനത്ത്; ഏസെൽക്കല്ലിന്റെ മറവിൽ ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുക.
When you have stayed three days, hurry down to the place you hid on the day this trouble began, and remain beside the stone Ezel.
20 ഞാൻ ഒരു ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് എന്ന ഭാവേന മൂന്ന് അമ്പുകൾ കല്ലിന്റെ വശത്തേക്ക് എയ്യും.
I will shoot three arrows to the side of it, as if I were aiming at a target.
21 ‘പോയി അമ്പുകൾ നോക്കിയെടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരൂ,’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഞാനൊരു ബാലനെ അയയ്ക്കും. ‘നോക്കൂ, അമ്പുകൾ നിന്റെ ഇപ്പുറത്ത് എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരൂ,’ എന്നു ഞാൻ വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നപക്ഷം നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റുവരണം. ജീവനുള്ള യഹോവയാണെ, നീ സുരക്ഷിതനാണ്; യാതൊരാപത്തുമില്ല.
Then I will send a boy and say, ‘Go, find the arrows!’ Now, if I expressly say to him, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you; bring them,’ then come, because as surely as the LORD lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger.
22 എന്നാൽ ‘നോക്കൂ, അമ്പുകൾ നിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്ത് അതാ,’ എന്നു ഞാൻ ആ ബാലനോടു വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നപക്ഷം നീ പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ; യഹോവ നിന്നെ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
But if I say to the young man, ‘Look, the arrows are beyond you,’ then you must go, for the LORD has sent you away.
23 ഓർക്കുക: ഞാനും നീയുംതമ്മിൽ പറഞ്ഞൊത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ഇക്കാര്യത്തിൽ യഹോവതന്നെ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മധ്യേ എന്നേക്കുംസാക്ഷി.”
And as for the matter you and I have discussed, the LORD is a witness between you and me forever.”
24 അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് വയലിൽ പോയി ഒളിച്ചിരുന്നു. അമാവാസിയുടെ ഉത്സവദിനം വന്നപ്പോൾ രാജാവു പന്തിഭോജനത്തിനിരുന്നു.
So David hid in the field, and when the New Moon had come, the king sat down to eat.
25 അദ്ദേഹം ആചാരമര്യാദകളനുസരിച്ച് ഭിത്തിയോടു ചേർന്നുള്ള തന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടത്തിൽ ഇരുന്നു. യോനാഥാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അഭിമുഖമായിരുന്നു. ശൗലിന്റെ പാർശ്വത്തിൽ അബ്നേർ ഇരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടം ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നിരുന്നു.
He sat in his usual place by the wall, opposite Jonathan and beside Abner, but David’s place was empty.
26 അന്നു ശൗൽ ഒന്നും മിണ്ടിയില്ല. “ദാവീദിന് അശുദ്ധി വരത്തക്കവണ്ണം എന്തെങ്കിലും സംഭവിച്ചുകാണും! അതേ അവന് ശുദ്ധിയില്ല!” എന്നു ശൗൽ ചിന്തിച്ചു.
Saul said nothing that day because he thought, “Something has happened to David to make him ceremonially unclean—surely he is unclean.”
27 എന്നാൽ അടുത്തദിവസമായ മാസപ്പിറവിയുടെ രണ്ടാംദിനത്തിലും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടം ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നിരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ തന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനോട്: “ഇന്നലെയും ഇന്നും യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകൻ ഭോജനത്തിനു വരാതിരുന്നതെന്തുകൊണ്ട്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
But on the day after the New Moon, the second day, David’s place was still empty, and Saul asked his son Jonathan, “Why hasn’t the son of Jesse come to the meal either yesterday or today?”
28 യോനാഥാൻ അതിനു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ബേത്ലഹേംവരെ പോകുന്നതിനു ദാവീദ് നിർബന്ധപൂർവം എന്നോട് അനുവാദം ചോദിച്ചു:
Jonathan answered, “David urgently requested my permission to go to Bethlehem,
29 ‘ഞങ്ങളുടെ കുടുംബമെല്ലാം ഒത്തുചേർന്ന് നഗരത്തിൽവെച്ച് ഒരു യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുകയാണ്, അവിടെയെത്താൻ എന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠൻ ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിനക്കെന്നോടു പ്രിയമുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ പോകാനും എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ കാണാനും എന്നെ അനുവദിക്കണമെന്നും ദാവീദ് നിർബന്ധിച്ചു.’ അതുമൂലമാണ് അദ്ദേഹം രാജാവിന്റെ വിരുന്നിനു വരാതിരുന്നത്.”
saying, ‘Please let me go, because our clan is holding a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has told me to be there. So now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me go and see my brothers.’ That is why he did not come to the king’s table.”
30 ശൗലിന്റെ ക്രോധം യോനാഥാന്റെനേരേ ജ്വലിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം അയാളോട്: “വക്രതയും ദുശ്ശാഠ്യവുമുള്ളവളുടെ മകനേ! നിന്റെ ലജ്ജയ്ക്കും നിന്നെ പെറ്റ നിന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ ലജ്ജയ്ക്കുമായി, നീ യിശ്ശായിപുത്രന്റെ പക്ഷംപിടിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് എനിക്കറിഞ്ഞുകൂടേ?
Then Saul’s anger burned against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the disgrace of the mother who bore you?
31 യിശ്ശായിപുത്രൻ ഭൂമിയിൽ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തൊരിക്കലും നീയോ നിന്റെ രാജത്വമോ ഉറയ്ക്കുകയില്ല. ഉടൻ ആളയച്ച് അവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുത്തുക. അവൻ തീർച്ചയായും മരിക്കണം!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
For as long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingship shall be established. Now send for him and bring him to me, for he must surely die!”
32 “അയാളെ എന്തിനു കൊല്ലണം? അയാൾ എന്തു തെറ്റുചെയ്തു?” യോനാഥാൻ സ്വപിതാവിനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
“Why must he be put to death?” Jonathan replied. “What has he done?”
33 എന്നാൽ ശൗൽ അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നതിനായി അവന്റെനേരേ കുന്തമോങ്ങി. അപ്പോൾ തന്റെ പിതാവു ദാവീദിനെ കൊല്ലുന്നതിനു നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് യോനാഥാന് ബോധ്യമായി.
Then Saul hurled his spear at Jonathan to kill him; so Jonathan knew that his father was determined to kill David.
34 ഉഗ്രകോപത്തോടെ യോനാഥാൻ തീൻമേശയിൽനിന്നും എഴുന്നേറ്റുപോയി. അമാവാസിയുടെ പിറ്റേന്നാൾ അദ്ദേഹം യാതൊന്നും ഭക്ഷിച്ചില്ല. തന്റെ പിതാവു ദാവീദിന്റെനേരേ അനുഷ്ഠിച്ച ലജ്ജാകരമായ പെരുമാറ്റത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഏറ്റവും ദുഃഖിതനായിരുന്നു.
Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger and did not eat any food that second day of the month, for he was grieved by his father’s shameful treatment of David.
35 പിറ്റേന്നു പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ ദാവീദുമായി നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന സമയത്ത് യോനാഥാൻ വയലിലേക്കുപോയി. ഒരു ബാലനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
In the morning Jonathan went out to the field for the appointment with David, and a small boy was with him.
36 “ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് ഞാൻ എയ്യുന്ന അമ്പുകൾ നോക്കിയെടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരിക,” എന്ന് യോനാഥാൻ ബാലനോടു പറഞ്ഞു. ബാലൻ ഓടിപ്പോയപ്പോൾ യോനാഥാൻ അവന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തേക്ക് ഒരമ്പെയ്തു.
He said to the boy, “Run and find the arrows I shoot.” And as the boy ran, Jonathan shot an arrow beyond him.
37 അമ്പു ചെന്നുവീണ ഇടത്തിൽ ആ ബാലൻ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ യോനാഥാൻ അവനോടു വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു. “അമ്പു നിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തല്ലോ?”
When the boy reached the place where Jonathan’s arrow had fallen, Jonathan called to him, “Isn’t the arrow beyond you?”
38 വീണ്ടും അദ്ദേഹം വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു, “വേഗം, വേഗം ചെല്ലൂ, നിൽക്കരുത്” ബാലൻ അമ്പെടുത്ത് തന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ അടുത്തേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.
Then Jonathan cried out, “Hurry! Make haste! Do not delay!” So the boy picked up the arrow and returned to his master.
39 ഇതേപ്പറ്റി യാതൊന്നും ആ ബാലന് അറിഞ്ഞുകൂടായിരുന്നു. യോനാഥാനും ദാവീദിനുംമാത്രമേ ഇതിന്റെ പൊരുൾ അറിയാമായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ.
But the boy did not know anything; only Jonathan and David knew the arrangement.
40 പിന്നെ യോനാഥാൻ തന്റെ ആയുധങ്ങൾ ആ ബാലനെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ട്, “നഗരത്തിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാൻ പറഞ്ഞ്” അവനെ അയച്ചു.
Then Jonathan gave his equipment to the boy and said, “Go, take it back to the city.”
41 ആ ബാലൻ പോയിക്കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് പാറയുടെ തെക്കുഭാഗത്തുനിന്ന് എഴുന്നേറ്റുവന്ന് യോനാഥാന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ മൂന്നുപ്രാവശ്യം സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണുവണങ്ങി. അവർ പരസ്പരം ചുംബിച്ചുകരഞ്ഞു. ദാവീദ് ഉച്ചത്തിൽ കരഞ്ഞുപോയി.
When the young man had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone, fell facedown, and bowed three times. Then he and Jonathan kissed each other and wept together—though David wept more.
42 യോനാഥാൻ ദാവീദിനോട്: “‘എനിക്കും നിനക്കും എന്റെ പിൻഗാമികൾക്കും നിന്റെ പിൻഗാമികൾക്കും മധ്യേ, യഹോവ എന്നേക്കുംസാക്ഷി,’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ്, നാം പരസ്പരം സഖ്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുകയാൽ സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോകുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് എഴുന്നേറ്റുപോയി. യോനാഥാനോ, പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.
And Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, for the two of us have sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, ‘May the LORD be a witness between you and me, and between your descendants and mine forever.’” Then David got up and departed, and Jonathan went back into the city.
