1 ശമൂവേൽ 2

1 ഈ സംഭവത്തിനുശേഷം ഹന്നാ ഇപ്രകാരം പ്രാർഥിച്ചു: “എന്റെ ഹൃദയം യഹോവയിൽ ആനന്ദിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ കൊമ്പ് യഹോവയിൽ ഉയർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്റെ അധരങ്ങൾ എന്റെ ശത്രുക്കൾക്കെതിരേ പ്രശംസിക്കുന്നു, കാരണം ഞാൻ അങ്ങയുടെ രക്ഷയിൽ ആഹ്ലാദിക്കുന്നു.

And Hannah prayeth, and saith: 'My heart hath exulted in Jehovah, My horn hath been high in Jehovah, My mouth hath been large over mine enemies, For I have rejoiced in Thy salvation.

2 “യഹോവയെപ്പോലെ പരിശുദ്ധൻ ആരുമില്ല; അങ്ങയെപ്പോലെ വേറാരുമില്ല! നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തെപ്പോലെ ഒരു പാറയില്ല.

There is none holy like Jehovah, For there is none save Thee, And there is no rock like our God.

3 “അഹന്തയോടെ ഇനിയും നിങ്ങൾ സംസാരിക്കരുത്! നിങ്ങളുടെ അധരം അഹങ്കാരം ഉരിയാടാതിരിക്കട്ടെ! കാരണം യഹോവ സർവജ്ഞനായ ദൈവമാകുന്നു; അവിടന്ന് പ്രവൃത്തികളെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുന്നു.

Ye multiply not — ye speak haughtily — The old saying goeth out from your mouth, For a God of knowledge [is] Jehovah, And by Him actions are weighed.

4 “വീരന്മാരുടെ വില്ല് ഒടിഞ്ഞുപോയി; കാലിടറിയവരോ, ബലം ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

Bows of the mighty are broken, And the stumbling have girded on strength.

5 സുഭിക്ഷതയിലിരുന്നവർ ആഹാരത്തിനായി കൂലിപ്പണിക്കുപോകുന്നു; എന്നാൽ വിശന്നലഞ്ഞിരുന്നവർ സംതൃപ്തരായിരിക്കുന്നു. വന്ധ്യയായിരുന്നവൾ ഏഴുമക്കളെ പ്രസവിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ പുത്രസമ്പന്ന വാടിത്തളരുന്നു.

The satiated for bread hired themselves, And the hungry have ceased. While the barren hath borne seven, And she abounding with sons hath languished.

6 “യഹോവ ജീവൻ എടുക്കുകയും ജീവൻ നൽകുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു. അവിടന്ന് പാതാളത്തിലേക്ക് താഴ്ത്തുകയും കരകയറ്റുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു. (Sheol h7585)

Jehovah putteth to death, and keepeth alive, He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up. (Sheol h7585)

7 ദാരിദ്ര്യവും സമ്പത്തും നൽകുന്നത് യഹോവതന്നെ; താഴ്ത്തുന്നതും ഉയർത്തുന്നതും അവിടന്നുതന്നെ.

Jehovah dispossesseth, and He maketh rich, He maketh low, yea, He maketh high.

8 അവിടന്ന് ദരിദ്രരെ പൊടിയിൽനിന്ന് ഉയർത്തുന്നു എളിയവരെ കുപ്പയിൽനിന്ന് ഉയർത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു; അവിടന്ന് അവരെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ഇരുത്തുന്നു മഹിമയുടെ സിംഹാസനത്തിന് അവരെ അവകാശികളാക്കുന്നു. “ഭൂമിയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ യഹോവയുടേതാണ്; അവയുടെമേൽ അവിടന്ന് ഭൂതലത്തെ ഉറപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

He raiseth from the dust the poor, From a dunghill He lifteth up the needy, To cause [them] to sit with nobles, Yea, a throne of honour He doth cause them to inherit, For to Jehovah [are] the fixtures of earth, And He setteth on them the habitable world.

9 തന്റെ വിശ്വസ്തസേവകരുടെ കാലടികളെ അവിടന്ന് കാക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ ദുഷ്ടർ അന്ധകാരത്തിൽ നിശ്ശബ്ദരായിപ്പോകുന്നു. “ശക്തിയാൽ ആരും ജയിക്കുന്നില്ല;

The feet of His saints He keepeth, And the wicked in darkness are silent, For not by power doth man become mighty.

10 യഹോവയോട് എതിർക്കുന്നവർ തകർന്നുപോകുന്നു. പരമോന്നതൻ അവർക്കെതിരേ ആകാശത്തുനിന്ന് ഇടിമുഴക്കുന്നു; യഹോവ അഖിലാണ്ഡത്തിന്റെ അതിർത്തികളെ ന്യായംവിധിക്കുന്നു. “അവിടന്നു തന്റെ രാജാവിനു ശക്തി നൽകുകയും തന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തന്റെ കൊമ്പ് ഉയർത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.”

Jehovah — broken down are His adversaries, Against them in the heavens He thundereth: Jehovah judgeth the ends of earth, And giveth strength to His king, And exalteth the horn of His anointed.'

11 തുടർന്ന് എൽക്കാനാ രാമായിലുള്ള തന്റെ ഭവനത്തിലേക്കു പോയി. ബാലനായ ശമുവേലോ പുരോഹിതനായ ഏലിയുടെ കീഴിൽ യഹോവയ്ക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തുപോന്നു.

And Elkanah goeth to Ramath, unto his house, and the youth hath been serving Jehovah, [in] the presence of Eli the priest;

12 ഏലിയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ യഹോവയെ ആദരിക്കാത്ത ആഭാസന്മാർ ആയിരുന്നു.

and the sons of Eli [are] sons of worthlessness, they have not known Jehovah.

13 അന്ന് ജനങ്ങളുടെനേരേ ഈ പുരോഹിതന്മാർ പെരുമാറിയ വിധം ഇപ്രകാരമായിരുന്നു: ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരു യാഗം കഴിക്കാൻ വന്നാൽ, മാംസം വേവിക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് കൈയിൽ ഒരു മുപ്പല്ലിയുമായി പുരോഹിതന്റെ സേവകൻ വരും;

And the custom of the priests with the people [is]: any man sacrificing a sacrifice — then hath the servant of the priest come in when the flesh is boiling, and the hook of three teeth in his hand,

14 ചട്ടിയിലോ ഉരുളിയിലോ കുട്ടകത്തിലോ കലത്തിലോ അയാൾ മുപ്പല്ലി കുത്തിത്താഴ്ത്തും; ആ മുപ്പല്ലിയിൽ പിടിച്ച മാംസം എത്രയായിരുന്നോ അത് പുരോഹിതൻ തനിക്കായി എടുക്കും. ശീലോവിലേക്കു വന്നിരുന്ന എല്ലാ ഇസ്രായേല്യരോടും അവർ ഇപ്രകാരമാണ് പെരുമാറിയിരുന്നത്.

and hath struck [it] into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the hook bringeth up doth the priest take for himself; thus they do to all Israel who are coming in, there, in Shiloh.

15 മേദസ്സു ഹോമിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തുപോലും പുരോഹിതന്റെ സേവകൻ വന്ന് യാഗമർപ്പിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തിയോട്: “പുരോഹിതനു വറുക്കുന്നതിനായി മാംസം തരിക; അദ്ദേഹം നിങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് വേവിച്ച മാംസം സ്വീകരിക്കുകയില്ല; അതിനാൽ പച്ചയായിത്തന്നെ തരിക” എന്നു പറയും.

Also before they make perfume with the fat — then hath the priest's servant come in, and said to the man who is sacrificing, 'Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he doth not take of thee flesh boiled, but raw;'

16 “മേദസ്സു ഹോമിച്ചു കഴിയട്ടെ! അതു കഴിഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങൾക്കിഷ്ടമുള്ളത് എടുക്കാമല്ലോ” എന്ന് ആ മനുഷ്യൻ പറഞ്ഞാൽ ഉടൻതന്നെ സേവകൻ ഇങ്ങനെ മറുപടി പറയും: “അതുപോരാ! അതിപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ തരിക; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ അതു ബലമായിത്തന്നെ എടുക്കും.”

and the man saith unto him, 'Let them surely make a perfume (as to-day) with the fat, then take to thee as thy soul desireth;' and he hath said to him, 'Surely now thou dost give; and if not — I have taken by strength.'

17 ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവയ്ക്കുവേണ്ടി അർപ്പിക്കുന്ന യാഗങ്ങളുടെനേരേ ആ ചെറുപ്പക്കാർ അവജ്ഞയോടെയാണ് പെരുമാറിയിരുന്നത്. അതിനാൽ അവരുടെ പാപം യഹോവയുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ വളരെ വലുതായിത്തീർന്നു.

And the sin of the young men is very great [in] the presence of Jehovah, for the men have despised the offering of Jehovah.

18 എന്നാൽ ശമുവേൽ എന്ന ബാലൻ മൃദുലചണവസ്ത്രംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഏഫോദ് ധരിച്ച് യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

And Samuel is ministering [in] the presence of Jehovah, a youth girt [with] an ephod of linen;

19 എല്ലാവർഷവും അവന്റെ അമ്മ അവനുവേണ്ടി ഓരോ ചെറിയ ഉടുപ്പുണ്ടാക്കിക്കുകയും ഭർത്താവിനോടൊത്ത് വാർഷികയാഗത്തിനായി വരുമ്പോൾ അത് അവനു കൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു.

and a small upper coat doth his mother make to him, and she hath brought it up to him from time to time, in her coming up with her husband to sacrifice the sacrifice of the time.

20 ഏലി എൽക്കാനായെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഭാര്യയെയും അനുഗ്രഹിച്ച് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു: “ഇവൾ പ്രാർഥിക്കുകയും, യഹോവയ്ക്കായി സമർപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത പുത്രന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്ത് ദൈവം നിനക്ക് ഈ സ്ത്രീയിൽ മക്കളെ നൽകട്ടെ!” അതിനുശേഷം അവർ സ്വന്തം ഭവനത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി.

And Eli blessed Elkanah, and his wife, and said, 'Jehovah doth appoint for thee seed of this woman, for the petition which she asked for Jehovah;' and they have gone to their place.

21 യഹോവ ഹന്നായോടു കരുണ കാണിച്ചു. അവൾ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാർക്കും രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാർക്കും ജന്മംനൽകി. ഇതിനിടയിൽ ശമുവേൽ ബാലൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ വളർന്നുവന്നു.

When Jehovah hath looked after Hannah, then she conceiveth and beareth three sons and two daughters; and the youth Samuel groweth up with Jehovah.

22 വളരെ വൃദ്ധനായ ഏലി തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ ഇസ്രായേൽജനത്തോട് ചെയ്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാ തിന്മകളെപ്പറ്റിയും കേട്ടു. സമാഗമകൂടാരവാതിൽക്കൽ ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളോടൊത്ത് അവർ കിടക്കപങ്കിടുന്ന വിവരവും അദ്ദേഹം അറിഞ്ഞു.

And Eli [is] very old, and hath heard all that his sons do to all Israel, and how that they lie with the women who are assembling [at] the opening of the tent of meeting,

23 അദ്ദേഹം അവരെ വിളിച്ച് ഈ വിധം പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങൾ ഇത്തരം പ്രവൃത്തികൾ ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്ത്? നിങ്ങളുടെ ഈ ദുഷ്‌പ്രവൃത്തികളെപ്പറ്റി ജനങ്ങളെല്ലാം പറയുന്നത് ഞാൻ കേൾക്കുന്നു.

and he saith to them, 'Why do ye things like these? for I am hearing of your evil words from all the people — these!

24 അങ്ങനെ അരുത്. എന്റെ മക്കളേ, യഹോവയുടെ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയിൽ നിങ്ങളെപ്പറ്റി പരന്നിരിക്കുന്നതായി ഞാൻ കേൾക്കുന്ന വാർത്ത നല്ലതല്ല.

Nay, my sons; for the report which I am hearing is not good causing the people of Jehovah to transgress. —

25 ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ മറ്റൊരു മനുഷ്യനോടു പാപംചെയ്താൽ ദൈവം അയാൾക്കുവേണ്ടി മധ്യസ്ഥത വഹിക്കും; എന്നാൽ ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്താലോ? അവർക്കുവേണ്ടി മധ്യസ്ഥതവഹിക്കാൻ ആരാണുള്ളത്?” എന്നാൽ അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവിന്റെ ശാസന വകവെച്ചില്ല, കാരണം അവരെ മരണത്തിന് ഏൽപ്പിക്കുക എന്നതു ദൈവനിർണയമായിരുന്നു.

If a man sin against a man, then hath God judged him; but if against Jehovah a man sin, who doth pray for him?' and they hearken not to the voice of their father, though Jehovah hath delighted to put them to death.

26 ബാലനായ ശമുവേൽ വളരുന്തോറും യഹോവയുടെയും മനുഷ്യരുടെയും പ്രീതിക്കു പാത്രമായിത്തീർന്നു.

And the youth Samuel is going on and growing up, and [is] good both with Jehovah, and also with men.

27 ഒരു ദിവസം ഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷൻ ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കൽവന്ന് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: ‘നിന്റെ പൂർവികരായ ഇസ്രായേല്യർ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ ഫറവോന്റെ അടിമത്തത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ അവർക്ക് എന്നെത്തന്നെ വ്യക്തമായി വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയില്ലേ?

And there cometh a man of God unto Eli, and saith unto him, 'Thus said Jehovah, Was I really revealed unto the house of thy father in their being in Egypt, before Pharaoh's house,

28 എനിക്കു പുരോഹിതനായിരിക്കുന്നതിനും എന്റെ യാഗപീഠത്തിലേക്ക് അടുത്തുവരുന്നതിനും ധൂപവർഗം കത്തിക്കുന്നതിനും എന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ ഏഫോദു ധരിക്കുന്നതിനുംവേണ്ടി ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ സകലഗോത്രങ്ങളിൽനിന്നും ഞാൻ നിന്റെ പൂർവികരെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ അഗ്നിയിലൂടെ അർപ്പിക്കുന്ന സകലനിവേദ്യങ്ങളും ഞാൻ നിന്റെ പൂർവികരുടെ കുടുംബങ്ങൾക്കു നൽകി.

even to choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to Me for a priest, to go up on Mine altar, to make a perfume, to bear an ephod before Me, and I give to the house of thy father all the fire-offerings of the sons of Israel?

29 എന്റെ തിരുനിവാസത്തിൽ ഞാൻ കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ യാഗങ്ങളും വഴിപാടുകളും നിങ്ങൾ അവഹേളിക്കുന്നതെന്ത്? എന്റെ ജനമായ ഇസ്രായേൽ അർപ്പിക്കുന്ന വഴിപാടുകളിലെ വിശിഷ്ടഭാഗങ്ങൾകൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ കൊഴുപ്പിക്കുകയും അങ്ങനെ നീ എന്നെക്കാൾ കൂടുതലായി നിന്റെ മക്കളെ ആദരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്ത്?’

Why do ye kick at My sacrifice, and at Mine offering which I commanded [in] My habitation, and dost honour thy sons above Me, to make yourselves fat from the first part of every offering of Israel, of My people?

30 “അതിനാൽ ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: ‘നിന്റെ ഭവനവും നിന്റെ പിതൃഭവനവും എന്നേക്കും എന്റെമുമ്പാകെ ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്യുമെന്നു ഞാൻ വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു, നിശ്ചയം.’ എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നു: ‘അങ്ങനെയൊന്ന് ഇനിയും എന്നിൽനിന്ന് ഉണ്ടാകാതിരിക്കട്ടെ. എന്നെ മാനിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാൻ മാനിക്കും, എന്നാൽ എന്നെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നവർ നിന്ദിതരാകും.

'Therefore — the affirmation of Jehovah, God of Israel — I certainly said, Thy house and the house of thy father, do walk up and down before Me to the age; and now — the affirmation of Jehovah — Far be it from Me! for he who is honouring Me, I honour, and those despising Me, are lightly esteemed.

31 നിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ വാർധക്യത്തിലെത്തിയ ഒരു വ്യക്തിപോലും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കാത്തവിധം ഞാൻ നിന്റെ ബലവും നിന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിലെ ബലവും ക്ഷയിപ്പിക്കുന്ന നാൾ ഇതാ വരുന്നു!

'Lo, days [are] coming, and I have cut off thine arm, and the arm of the house of thy father, that an old man is not in thy house;

32 ദൈവം ഇസ്രായേലിനു നൽകുന്ന എല്ലാ നന്മകളും നീ എന്റെ തിരുനിവാസത്തിൽ അസൂയയോടെ നോക്കിക്കാണും. നിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽ ഒരുനാളും ആരും വാർധക്യത്തോളം എത്തുകയില്ല.

and thou hast beheld an adversary [in My] habitation, in all that He doth good with Israel, and there is not an old man in thy house all the days.

33 കണ്ണുനീരുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ കണ്ണു കുരുടാക്കാനും ദുഃഖംകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉരുക്കാനുംവേണ്ടി നിന്റെ ഭവനത്തിൽ ഒരുത്തനെ ഞാൻ എന്റെ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽനിന്നും ഛേദിച്ചുകളയാതെ അവശേഷിപ്പിക്കും. നിന്റെ ഭവനത്തിൽ ജനിക്കുന്ന മക്കളെല്ലാം ജീവിതത്തിലെ നിറഞ്ഞ യൗവനത്തിൽ മരിക്കും.

'And the man I cut not off of thine from Mine altar, [is] to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thy soul; and all the increase of thy house do die men;

34 “‘നിന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായ ഹൊഫ്നിക്കും ഫീനെഹാസിനും സംഭവിക്കുന്നത് നിനക്കൊരു ചിഹ്നമായിരിക്കും. അവരിരുവരും ഒരേദിവസം മരിക്കും.

and this [is] to thee the sign that cometh unto thy two sons, unto Hophni and Phinehas — in one day they die both of them;

35 എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി വിശ്വസ്തനായൊരു പുരോഹിതനെ ഉയർത്തും. എന്റെ മനസ്സിലും ഹൃദയത്തിലും ഉള്ളതിന് അനുസൃതമായി അവൻ പ്രവർത്തിക്കും. ഞാനവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ സ്ഥിരമായി സ്ഥാപിക്കും. അവൻ എന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നിത്യം ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്യും.

and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he doth do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he hath walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;

36 അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ കുടുംബനിരയിൽ അവശേഷിക്കുന്നവരിൽ ഓരോരുത്തരും ഒരു വെള്ളിക്കാശിനും ഒരപ്പത്തിനുംവേണ്ടി അവന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ചെന്നു വണങ്ങി, “എന്റെ വിശപ്പു ശമിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള വല്ല വകയും കിട്ടത്തക്കവണ്ണം പൗരോഹിത്യകർമത്തിലെ ഏതെങ്കിലുമൊരു ജോലിക്ക് എന്നെ നിയോഗിക്കണമേ”’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ യാചിക്കും.”

and it hath been, every one who is left in thy house doth come in to bow himself to him, for a wage of silver, and a cake of bread, and hath said, Admit me, I pray thee, unto one of the priest's offices, to eat a morsel of bread.'
