1 രാജാക്കന്മാർ 12

1 രെഹബെയാമിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിക്കുന്നതിന് ഇസ്രായേൽമുഴുവൻ ശേഖേമിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹവും അവിടെയെത്തി.

And king Roboam goes to Sikima; for all Israel were coming to Sikima to make him king.

2 ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാം—അദ്ദേഹം ശലോമോൻരാജാവിന്റെ അടുത്തുനിന്ന് ഓടിപ്പോയി താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഈജിപ്റ്റിലായിരുന്നു അപ്പോഴും—ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് മടങ്ങിയെത്തി.

3 അതിനാൽ ഇസ്രായേൽ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ യൊരോബെയാമിനെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി; അദ്ദേഹവും ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ സർവസഭയുംകൂടി രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കലെത്തി ഇപ്രകാരം ഉണർത്തിച്ചു:

And the people spoke to king Roboam, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy;

4 “അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവ് ഭാരമുള്ള ഒരു നുകമാണ് ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയിരുന്നത്; ആകയാൽ, ഇപ്പോൾ അങ്ങ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ കഠിനവേലയും അദ്ദേഹം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയിരുന്ന ഭാരമേറിയ നുകവും ലഘുവാക്കിത്തന്നാലും. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ, ഞങ്ങൾ അങ്ങയെ സേവിച്ചുകൊള്ളാം.”

but do you now lighten somewhat of the hard service of your father, and of his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve you.

5 “മൂന്നുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞ് നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്ന് രെഹബെയാം മറുപടികൊടുത്തു. അങ്ങനെ ജനം മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

And he said to them, Depart for three days, and return to me. And they departed.

6 അതിനുശേഷം, രാജാവ് തന്റെ പിതാവായ ശലോമോനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതകാലംമുഴുവൻ സേവിച്ചുനിന്നിരുന്ന വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുമായി കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചു. “ഞാൻ ഈ ജനത്തോട് എന്ത് മറുപടി പറയണം? നിങ്ങളുടെ ആലോചനയും അഭിപ്രായവും എന്ത്?” എന്ന് രെഹബെയാം അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

And the king referred [the matter] to the elders, who stood before Solomon his father while he was yet living, saying, How do you advise that I should answer this people?

7 അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “ഇന്ന് അങ്ങ് ഈ ജനത്തിന് ഒരു സേവകനായിത്തീർന്ന് അവരെ സേവിക്കുകയും അവരോട് അനുകൂലമായ മറുപടി പറയുകയും ചെയ്താൽ അവർ എന്നും അങ്ങയുടെ ദാസന്മാരായിരിക്കും” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

And they spoke to him, saying, If you will this day be a servant to this people, and will serve them, and will speak to them good words, then will they be your servants continually.

8 എന്നാൽ, രെഹബെയാം വൃദ്ധജനങ്ങളുടെ ഉപദേശം സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല. തന്നോടൊപ്പം വളർന്നവരും തന്നെ സേവിച്ചുനിൽക്കുന്നവരുമായ യുവജനങ്ങളുമായി അദ്ദേഹം കൂടിയാലോചിച്ചു.

But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they gave him, and consulted with the young men who were brought up with him, who stood in his presence.

9 “നിങ്ങളുടെ ഉപദേശം എന്താണ്? ‘നിന്റെ പിതാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചുമത്തിയ നുകത്തിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചുതരിക,’ എന്ന് എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഈ ജനത്തോടു നാം എന്തു മറുപടി പറയണം?” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിച്ചു.

And he said to them, What counsel do you give? And what shall I answer to this people who speak to me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke which your father has put upon us?

10 അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം വളർന്നുവന്ന ആ യുവജനങ്ങൾ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത്: “‘അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവു ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ചുമത്തി; അതിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറച്ചുതരണം,’ എന്ന് അങ്ങയോടാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട ഈ ജനത്തോട് ഈ വിധം പറയണം: ‘എന്റെ ചെറുവിരൽ എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ അരക്കെട്ടിനെക്കാളും വലുപ്പമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

And the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before his face, spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you say to this people who have spoken to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and do you now lighten it from off us: thus shall say to them, My little [finger shall be] thicker than my father's loins.

11 എന്റെ പിതാവ് നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ചുമത്തി; ഞാനതിനെ ഇനിയും കൂടുതൽ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കും. എന്റെ പിതാവു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ, നിങ്ങളെ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും.’”

And whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I also will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12 “മൂന്നുദിവസത്തിനുശേഷം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവരിക,” എന്നു രാജാവു നിർദേശിച്ചിരുന്നതുപോലെ യൊരോബെയാമും സർവജനവും രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു.

And all Israel came to king Roboam on the third day, as the king spoke to them, saying, Return to me on the third day.

13 വൃദ്ധജനം നൽകിയ ഉപദേശം അവഗണിച്ച രാജാവ് ജനത്തോടു വളരെ പരുഷമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.

And the king answered the people harshly; and Roboam forsook the counsel of the old men which they counselled him.

14 യുവാക്കന്മാർ നൽകിയ ഉപദേശമനുസരിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം അവരോട്: “എന്റെ പിതാവു നിങ്ങളുടെ നുകത്തെ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കി; ഞാനതിനെ കൂടുതൽ ഭാരമുള്ളതാക്കും. എന്റെ പിതാവു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15 ഇങ്ങനെ, രാജാവ് ജനങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല. നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിനോട് ശീലോന്യനായ അഹീയാവിലൂടെ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വാക്കുകൾ നിറവേറുന്നതിന് ഈ സംഭവവികാസം യഹോവയുടെ ഹിതപ്രകാരം ആയിരുന്നു.

And the king listened not to the people, because the change was from the Lord, that he might establish his word which he spoke by Achia the Selonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nabat.

16 രാജാവു തങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ ചെവിക്കൊള്ളുന്നില്ല എന്നുകണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേൽജനമെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞത്: “ദാവീദിങ്കൽ നമുക്കെന്ത് ഓഹരി? യിശ്ശായിയുടെ പുത്രനിൽ നമുക്കെന്ത് ഓഹരി? ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളൂ. ദാവീദേ, ഇനി സ്വന്തഭവനത്തെ നോക്കിക്കൊള്ളുക!” അങ്ങനെ, ഇസ്രായേൽജനം താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനങ്ങളിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി.

And all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them: and the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we any inheritance in the son of Jessae. Depart, O Israel, to your tents: now feed your own house, David. So Israel departed to his tents.

17 എന്നാൽ, യെഹൂദ്യനഗരങ്ങളിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇസ്രായേല്യർക്ക് രെഹബെയാം രാജാവായി തുടർന്നു.

18 നിർബന്ധിതമായി വേലചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ ചുമതല വഹിച്ചിരുന്ന അദോനിരാമിനെ രെഹബെയാംരാജാവ് ഇസ്രായേല്യരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കയച്ചു. എന്നാൽ, അവരെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊന്നു. രെഹബെയാംരാജാവാകട്ടെ, കഷ്ടിച്ച് രഥത്തിലേറി ജെറുശലേമിലേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോന്നു.

And the king sent Adoniram who was over the tribute; and they stoned him with stones, and he died: and king Roboam made haste to rise to flee to Jerusalem.

19 ഇപ്രകാരം, ഇസ്രായേൽ ഇന്നുവരെ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭവനത്തോടുള്ള മാത്സര്യത്തിൽ കഴിയുന്നു.

So Israel rebelled against the house of David until this day.

20 യൊരോബെയാം ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്നും മടങ്ങിവന്നിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന് എല്ലാ ഇസ്രായേല്യരും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ, ആളയച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഇസ്രായേൽ സഭയിലേക്കു ക്ഷണിച്ചുവരുത്തി സമസ്തഇസ്രായേലിനും രാജാവാക്കി. യെഹൂദാഗോത്രംമാത്രമല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭവനത്തോടു പക്ഷംചേർന്നില്ല.

And it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned out of Egypt, that they sent and called him to the assembly, and they made him king over Israel: and none followed the house of David except the tribe of Juda and Benjamin only.

21 രെഹബെയാം ജെറുശലേമിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം സകല യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തെയും ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി. അവർ ഒരുലക്ഷത്തി എൺപതിനായിരം യോദ്ധാക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്യുന്നതിനും ശലോമോന്റെ മകനായ രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ രാജ്യം പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതിനും ആയിരുന്നു അവരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയത്.

And Roboam went into Jerusalem, and he assembled the congregation of Juda, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and twenty thousand young men, warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to recover the kingdom to Roboam the son of Solomon.

22 എന്നാൽ, ദൈവപുരുഷനായ ശെമയ്യാവിന് ഇപ്രകാരം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി:

And the word of the Lord came to Samaia the man of God, saying,

23 “യെഹൂദാരാജാവും ശലോമോന്റെ പുത്രനുമായ രെഹബെയാമിനോടും യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിലെയും ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തിലെയും സകലജനത്തോടും, ശേഷം ജനത്തോടും പറയുക:

Speak to Roboam the son of Solomon, king of Juda, and to all the house of Juda and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

24 ‘നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ഇസ്രായേല്യരോടു യുദ്ധത്തിനു പോകരുത്. നിങ്ങൾ ഓരോരുത്തനും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുക. ഈ കാര്യം എന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം സംഭവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.’” അങ്ങനെ അവർ യഹോവയുടെ വചനമനുസരിച്ച് യഹോവയുടെ കൽപ്പനപ്രകാരം സ്വന്തം ഭവനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

Thus says the Lord, You shall not go up, neither shall you fight with your brethren the sons of Israel: return each man to his own home; for this thing is from me; and they listened to the word of the Lord, and they ceased from going up, according to the word of the Lord.

25 പിന്നെ, യൊരോബെയാം മലനാടായ എഫ്രയീമിലെ ശേഖേം കോട്ടകെട്ടി പണിതുറപ്പിച്ച് അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു. അവിടെനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട് അദ്ദേഹം പെനീയേലും പണിതു.

And Jeroboam built Sikima in mount Ephraim and lived in it, and went forth thence and built Phanuel.

26 പിന്നെ, യൊരോബെയാം മനസ്സിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം നിരൂപിച്ചു: “രാജ്യം മിക്കവാറും ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Behold, now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

27 ഈ ജനം ജെറുശലേമിൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്ക് യാഗങ്ങൾ അർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി പോകുന്നപക്ഷം അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം യെഹൂദാരാജാവും തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനുമായ രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ വശത്തേക്കുചായും. അവർ എന്നെ വധിച്ച് രെഹബെയാം രാജാവിന്റെ പക്ഷത്തേക്കു ചേരും.”

If this people shall go up to offer sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of the people will return to the Lord, and to their master, to Roboam king of Juda, and they will kill me.

28 അതിനാൽ, അദ്ദേഹം ഉപദേശം തേടിയശേഷം സ്വർണംകൊണ്ടുള്ള രണ്ടു കാളക്കിടാങ്ങളെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി. അദ്ദേഹം ജനത്തോട്: “ജെറുശലേംവരെ പോകുന്നത് നിങ്ങൾക്കു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ്; ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നവനായ, നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്മാർ ഇതാ!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

And the king took counsel, and went, and made two golden heifers, and said to the people, Let it suffice you to have gone [hitherto] to Jerusalem: behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

29 കാളക്കിടാങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നിനെ അദ്ദേഹം ബേഥേലിലും മറ്റേതിനെ ദാനിലും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.

And he put one in Bethel, and he put the other in Dan.

30 ഇത് ഒരു പാപമായിത്തീർന്നു; ജനം അവയെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ ബേഥേലിലേക്കും ദാനിലേക്കും യാത്രചെയ്തു.

And this thing became a sin; and the people went before one as far as Dan, and left the house of the Lord.

31 യാഗമർപ്പിച്ചുവന്നിരുന്ന മലകളിൽ യൊരോബെയാം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ നിർമിച്ചു; സകലജനത്തിൽനിന്നും പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ—ലേവ്യാഗോത്രത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഉള്ളവർ അല്ലായിരുന്നിട്ടും—നിയമിച്ചു.

And he made houses on the high places, and made priests of any part of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

32 യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ ആചരിച്ചുവന്ന രീതിയിലുള്ള ഉത്സവംപോലെ ഇവിടെയും എട്ടാംമാസത്തിന്റെ പതിനഞ്ചാംതീയതി ഒരു ഉത്സവം യൊരോബെയാം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുകയും അവിടത്തെ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ ബലികൾ അർപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ബേഥേലിൽ താൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ കാളക്കിടാങ്ങൾക്കു സ്വയം ബലി അർപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് യൊരോബെയാം ഇത് ബേഥേലിൽ നടപ്പാക്കിയത്. ബേഥേലിൽ താൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹം പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും നിയമിച്ചു.

And Jeroboam appointed a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, according to the feast in the land of Juda;

33 അദ്ദേഹം സ്വമേധയാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത എട്ടാംമാസം പതിനഞ്ചാംതീയതി ബേഥേലിൽ താൻ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ ബലികൾ അർപ്പിച്ചു. സ്വയം യാഗപീഠത്തിൽ ധൂപാർച്ചന നടത്തി. അങ്ങനെ, അദ്ദേഹം ഇസ്രായേല്യർക്കുവേണ്ടി ഒരു ഉത്സവം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.

and went up to the altar which he made in Baethel to sacrifice to the heifers which he made, and he placed in Baethel the priests of the high places which he had made. And he went up to the altar which he had made, on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, at the feast which he devised out of his own heart; and he made a feast to the children of Israel, and went up to the altar to sacrifice.
