1 ദിനവൃത്താന്തം 19
1 പിന്നീട് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവായ നാഹാശ് മരിച്ചു. അതിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൻ ഹാനൂൻ അനന്തരാവകാശിയായി രാജ്യഭാരമേറ്റു.
And it came to pass after this, [that] Naas the king of the children of Ammon died, and Anan his son reigned in his stead.
2 അപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് വിചാരിച്ചു: “ഹാനൂന്റെ പിതാവായ നാഹാശ് എന്നോടു ദയ കാണിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാനും ഹാനൂനോടു ദയ കാണിക്കേണ്ടതാണ്.” അതിനാൽ പിതാവിന്റെ നിര്യാണത്തിൽ ഹാനൂനോടുള്ള അനുശോചനം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് ദാവീദ് ഒരു പ്രതിനിധിസംഘത്തെ അവിടേക്ക് അയച്ചു. ദാവീദ് അയച്ച ആളുകൾ ഹാനൂനോടുള്ള അനുശോചനം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ ദേശത്ത് എത്തി.
And David said, I will act kindly toward Anan the son of Naas, as his father acted kindly towards me. And David sent messengers to condole with him on the death of his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Anan, to comfort him.
3 അപ്പോൾ അമ്മോന്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ ഹാനൂനോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “സഹതാപം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് അങ്ങയുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് പ്രതിനിധികളെ അയയ്ക്കുകവഴി ദാവീദ് അങ്ങയുടെ പിതാവിനോടുള്ള ബഹുമാനം കാണിക്കുകയാണ് എന്ന് അങ്ങു വിചാരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ? പര്യവേക്ഷണവും ചാരപ്രവർത്തനവും നടത്തി, അങ്ങയുടെ രാജ്യത്തെ അട്ടിമറിക്കുന്നതിനുമാത്രമാണ് അയാൾ ആളുകളെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്?”
And the chiefs of the children of Ammon said to Anan, Is it to honour thy father before thee, that David has sent comforters to thee? Have not his servants come to thee that they might search the city, and to spy out the land?
4 അതിനാൽ ഹാനൂൻ ദാവീദിന്റെ സ്ഥാനപതികളെ പിടിച്ച് അവരെ ക്ഷൗരംചെയ്യിപ്പിച്ച് വസ്ത്രം നിതംബമധ്യത്തിൽവെച്ചു മുറിപ്പിച്ച് വിട്ടയച്ചു.
And Anan took the servants of David, and shaved them, and cut off the half of their garments as far as their tunic, and sent them away.
5 ചിലർ വന്ന് ആ മനുഷ്യരെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള വിവരം ദാവീദിനെ അറിയിച്ചു. അവർ അത്യന്തം അപമാനിതരായിരുന്നതിനാൽ അവരുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ച് ഇങ്ങനെ പറയിച്ചു: “നിങ്ങൾ യെരീഹോവിൽ പാർക്കുക. നിങ്ങളുടെ താടിവളർന്ന് പഴയതുപോലെ ആകുമ്പോൾ മടങ്ങിവരികയും ചെയ്യുക.”
And there came men to report to David concerning the men: and he sent to meet them, for they were greatly disgraced: and the king said, Dwell in Jericho until your beards have grown, and return.
6 തങ്ങൾ ദാവീദിന്റെ വെറുപ്പിനു പാത്രരായിത്തീർന്നു എന്ന് അമ്മോന്യർക്കു ബോധ്യമായി. അപ്പോൾ ഹാനൂനും അമ്മോന്യരും അരാം-നെഹറയിമിൽനിന്നും അരാം-മയഖയിൽനിന്നും സോബയിൽനിന്നും രഥങ്ങളെയും തേരാളികളെയും വാടകയ്ക്കെടുക്കുന്നതിന് ആയിരംതാലന്തു വെള്ളി കൊടുത്തുവിട്ടു.
And the children of Ammon saw that the people of David were ashamed, and Anan and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen out of Syria of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria Maacha, and from Sobal.
7 അവർ മുപ്പത്തീരായിരം തേരും അതിന്റെ തേരാളികളെയും അതോടൊപ്പം സൈന്യസഹിതം മയഖാ രാജാവിനെയും കൂലിക്കെടുത്തു. അവർ വന്ന് മെദേബെയ്ക്കു സമീപം പാളയമിറങ്ങി. ആ സമയം അമ്മോന്യരും അവരവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് നിർബന്ധപൂർവം വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തപ്പെട്ടു. അവരും യുദ്ധത്തിനു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.
And they hired for themselves two and thirty thousand chariots, and the king of Maacha and his people; and they came and encamped before Medaba: and the children of Ammon assembled out of their cities, and came to fight.
8 ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ട് ദാവീദ് യോദ്ധാക്കളുടെ സർവസൈന്യത്തോടുംകൂടി യോവാബിനെ അയച്ചു.
And David heard, and sent Joab and all the host of mighty men.
9 അമ്മോന്യർ വെളിയിൽവന്ന് നഗരകവാടത്തിൽ, യുദ്ധമുറയനുസരിച്ച് അണിനിരന്നു. അതേസമയം അവരെ സഹായിക്കാൻ വന്ന രാജാക്കന്മാർമാത്രമായി വെളിമ്പ്രദേശത്ത് നിലയുറപ്പിച്ചു.
And the children of Ammon came forth, and set themselves in array for battle by the gate of the city: and the kings that were come forth encamped by themselves in the plain.
10 തന്റെ മുന്നിലും പിന്നിലും പടയാളികൾ അണിനിരന്നിരിക്കുന്നതായി യോവാബു കണ്ടു. അതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഇസ്രായേല്യരിൽ ഏറ്റവും ശൂരന്മാരായ കുറെ പടയാളികളെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത് അവരെ അരാമ്യർക്കെതിരേ അണിനിരത്തി.
And Joab saw that they were fronting [him] to fight against him before and behind, and he chose [some] out of all the young men of Israel, and they set themselves in array against the Syrian.
11 ശേഷം പടയാളികളെ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീശായിയുടെ ആധിപത്യത്തിലാക്കി, അമ്മോന്യർക്കെതിരേയും അണിനിരത്തി.
And the rest of the people he gave into the hand of his brother Abesai, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
12 എന്നിട്ടു യോവാബു പറഞ്ഞു: “എനിക്കു നേരിടാൻ കഴിയാത്തവിധം അരാമ്യർ പ്രാബല്യം പ്രാപിച്ചാൽ നീ വന്ന് എന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കണം. മറിച്ച് അമ്മോന്യർ, നിനക്കു നേരിടാൻ കഴിയാത്തവിധം പ്രാബല്യം പ്രാപിച്ചാൽ ഞാൻ വന്നു നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും.
And he said, If the Syrian should prevail against me, then shalt thou deliver me: and if the children of Ammon should prevail against thee, then will I deliver thee.
13 ശക്തനായിരിക്കുക! നമ്മുടെ ജനങ്ങൾക്കും നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നഗരങ്ങൾക്കുംവേണ്ടി നമുക്കു ധീരമായി പൊരുതാം. അവിടത്തെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ നന്മയായുള്ളത് യഹോവ ചെയ്യട്ടെ!”
Be of good courage, and let us be strong, for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord shall do what [is] good in his eyes.
14 അതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് യോവാബും അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പമുള്ള പടയാളികളും അരാമ്യരോടു പൊരുതാൻ മുന്നേറി. അരാമ്യർ അവരുടെമുമ്പിൽനിന്ന് തോറ്റോടി.
So Joab and the people that were with him set themselves in battle array against the Syrians, and they fled from them.
15 അരാമ്യർ പലായനം ചെയ്യുന്നതായി കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അമ്മോന്യരും യോവാബിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീശായിയുടെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്നോടി പട്ടണത്തിനുള്ളിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു. യോവാബ് ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോരുകയും ചെയ്തു.
And the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians fled, and they also fled from before Abesai, and from before Joab his brother, and they came to the city: and Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 ഇസ്രായേല്യർ തങ്ങളെ തോൽപ്പിച്ചോടിച്ചെന്നു കണ്ടിട്ട് അരാമ്യർ സന്ദേശവാഹകരെ അയച്ച് യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിക്ക് അപ്പുറമുള്ള അരാമ്യരെ വരുത്തി. അവരെ നയിച്ചിരുന്നത് ഹദദേസറിന്റെ സൈന്യാധിപനായ ശോഫക്ക് ആയിരുന്നു.
And the Syrian saw that Israel had defeated him, and he sent messengers, and they brought out the Syrians from beyond the river; and Sophath the commander-in-chief of the forces of Adraazar [was] before them.
17 ഇതേപ്പറ്റി ദാവീദിന് അറിവുകിട്ടിയപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം ഇസ്രായേൽസൈന്യത്തെയെല്ലാം വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി. അവർ യോർദാൻനദികടന്ന്, അരാമ്യർക്കെതിരേ മുന്നേറി, അവർക്കെതിരേ അണിനിരന്നു. അരാമ്യരെ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ നേരിടാൻ ദാവീദ് പടയാളികളെ അണിനിരത്തി, അങ്ങനെ അവർ ദാവീദിനോടു പൊരുതി.
And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and crossed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So David set [his army] in array to fight against the Syrians, and they fought against him.
18 എന്നാൽ അവർ ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്ന് തോറ്റോടി. അവരുടെ തേരാളികളിൽ ഏഴായിരം പേരെയും കാലാളുകളിൽ നാൽപ്പതിനായിരം പേരെയും ദാവീദ് സംഹരിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം അവരുടെ സൈന്യാധിപനായ ശോഫക്കിനെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.
And the Syrians fled from before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand [riders in] chariots, and forty thousand infantry, and he slew Sophath the commander-in-chief of the forces.
19 തങ്ങൾ ഇസ്രായേലിനോടു തോറ്റു എന്ന്, ഹദദേസരിനു കീഴ്പ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ആശ്രിതർ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അവർ ദാവീദിനോടു സമാധാനസന്ധിചെയ്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു കീഴടങ്ങി. അതിനാൽ പിന്നീടൊരിക്കലും അമ്മോന്യരെ സഹായിക്കാൻ അരാമ്യർ തുനിഞ്ഞില്ല.
And the servants of Adraazar saw that they were defeated before Israel, and they made peace with David and served him: and the Syrians would not any more help the children of Ammon.
