സംഖ്യാപുസ്തകം 35

1 യഹോവ പിന്നെയും യെരീഹോവിന്നെതിരെ യോർദ്ദാന്നരികെ മോവാബ് സമഭൂമിയിൽവെച്ചു മോശെയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു:

And Yahweh spake unto Moses in the waste plains of Moab, —by Jordan, near Jericho, saying:

2 യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ തങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശത്തിൽനിന്നു ലേവ്യർക്കു വസിപ്പാൻ പട്ടണങ്ങൾ കൊടുക്കേണമെന്നു അവരോടു കല്പിക്ക; പട്ടണങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ അവയുടെ പുല്പുറവും നിങ്ങൾ ലേവ്യർക്കു കൊടുക്കേണം.

Command the sons of Israel, that they give unto the Levites—out of the inheritance which they possess—cities to dwell in, —pasture land also unto the cities, round about them, shall ye give unto the Levites.

3 പട്ടണങ്ങൾ അവർക്കു പാർപ്പിടമായിരിക്കേണം; അവയുടെ പുല്പുറം ആടുമാടുകൾ മുതലായ സകലമൃഗസമ്പത്തിന്നുംവേണ്ടി ആയിരിക്കേണം.

So shall the cities be theirs, to dwell in, —and their pasture lands, shall, be for their cattle and for their goods and for all their beasts.

4 നിങ്ങൾ ലേവ്യർക്കു കൊടുക്കേണ്ടുന്ന പുല്പുറം. പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ മതിലിങ്കൽതുടങ്ങി പുറത്തോട്ടു ചുറ്റും ആയിരം മുഴം വിസ്താരം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

And, the pasture lands of the cities which ye shall give unto the Levite, shall be, —from the wall of the city, and outwards, a thousand cubits round about

5 പട്ടണം നടുവാക്കി അതിന്നു പുറമെ കിഴക്കോട്ടു രണ്ടായിരം മുഴവും തെക്കോട്ടു രണ്ടായിരം മുഴവും പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടു രണ്ടായിരം മുഴവും വടക്കോട്ടു രണ്ടായിരം മുഴവും അളക്കേണം; ഇതു അവർക്കു പട്ടണങ്ങളുടെ പുല്പുറം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

So ye shall measure—on the outside of the city—the eastward quarter two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter two thousand by the cubit and the north quarter two thousand by the cubit, with, the city, in the midst. This, shall be unto them the pasture lands of the cities,

6 നിങ്ങൾ ലേവ്യർക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങളിൽ ആറു സങ്കേതനഗരങ്ങളായിരിക്കേണം; കൊലചെയ്തവൻ അവിടേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങൾ അവയെ അവന്നുവേണ്ടി വേറുതിരിക്കേണം; ഇവ കൂടാതെ നിങ്ങൾ വേറെയും നാല്പത്തുരണ്ടു പട്ടണങ്ങളെ കൊടുക്കേണം.

And, among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give that the manslayer may flee thither, —and besides them, ye shall give, forty-two cities,

7 അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങൾ ലേവ്യർക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങൾ എല്ലാംകൂടെ നാല്പത്തെട്ടു ആയിരിക്കേണം; അവയും അവയുടെ പുല്പുറങ്ങളും കൊടുക്കേണം.

All the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be forty-eight cities, —them, and their pasture lands,

8 യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ അവകാശത്തിൽനിന്നു ജനമേറിയവർ ഏറെയും ജനം കുറഞ്ഞവർ കുറെയും പട്ടണങ്ങൾ കൊടുക്കേണം; ഓരോ ഗോത്രം തനിക്കു ലഭിക്കുന്ന അവകാശത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ലേവ്യർക്കു പട്ടണങ്ങളെ കൊടുക്കേണം.

And as touching the cities which ye shall give out of the possession of the sons of Israel from the many, shall ye take many, and from the few, shall ye take few, —each, according to his inheritance, which they shall inherit, shall give of his cities unto the Levites.

9 യഹോവ പിന്നെയും മോശെയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു:

Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:

10 നീ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളോടു പറയേണ്ടതെന്തെന്നാൽ: നിങ്ങൾ യോർദ്ദാൻ കടന്നു കനാൻദേശത്തു എത്തിയശേഷം

Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou shalt say unto them, —When ye are passing over the Jordan unto the land of Canaan,

11 ചില പട്ടണങ്ങൾ സങ്കേതനഗരങ്ങളായി വേറുതിരിക്കേണം; അബദ്ധവശാൽ ഒരുത്തനെ കൊന്നുപോയവൻ അവിടേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോകേണം.

then shall ye find for you, convenient cities, cities of refuge, shall they be unto you, —and the manslayer, who hath slain a person, by mistake, shall flee thither.

12 കൊലചെയ്തവൻ സഭയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ വിസ്താരത്തിന്നു നില്ക്കുംവരെ അവൻ പ്രതികാരകന്റെ കയ്യാൽ മരിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവ സങ്കേതനഗരങ്ങൾ ആയിരിക്കേണം.

So shall the cities serve you for places of refuge from the redeemer, —that the manslayer may not die, until he has stood before the assembly, for judgment,

13 നിങ്ങൾ കൊടുക്കുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങളിൽ ആറെണ്ണം സങ്കേതനഗരം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

And as touching the cities which ye shall give six cities of refuge, shall there be unto you.

14 യോർദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ മൂന്നു പട്ടണവും കനാൻദേശത്തു മൂന്നു പട്ടണവും കൊടുക്കേണം; അവ സങ്കേതനഗരങ്ങൾ ആയിരിക്കേണം.

Three of the cities, shall ye give, on this side the Jordan, and three of the cities, shall ye give in the land of Canaan, —cities of refuge, shall they be.

15 അബദ്ധവശാൽ ഒരുത്തനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവൻ ഏവനും അവിടേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ ആറുപട്ടണം യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്കും പരദേശിക്കും വന്നുപാർക്കുന്നവന്നും സങ്കേതം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

For the sons of Israel and for the sojourner. and for the settler in your midst, shall these six cities serve, as places of refuge, —that any one may flee thither who hath slain a person, by mistake.

16 എന്നാൽ ആരെങ്കിലും ഇരുമ്പായുധംകൊണ്ടു ഒരുത്തനെ അടിച്ചിട്ടു അവൻ മരിച്ചുപോയാൽ അവൻ കൊലപാതകൻ; കൊലപാതകൻ മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം.

If, then, with an instrument of iron, he smote him, and he died, a manslayer, he is, —a manslayer, shall surely die.

17 മരിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരുത്തനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവൻ മരിച്ചുപോയാൽ അവൻ കൊലപാതകൻ; കൊലപാതകൻ മരണ ശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം.

Or if with a stone thrown by hand, where-by one might die, he smote him and he died, a manslayer, he is, —the man-slayer, shall surely die,

18 അല്ലെങ്കിൽ മരിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ആരെങ്കിലും കയ്യിലിരുന്ന മരയായുധംകൊണ്ടു ഒരുത്തനെ അടിച്ചിട്ടു അവൻ മരിച്ചുപോയാൽ അവൻ കൊലപാതകൻ; കൊലപാതകൻ മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം.

Or, if with hand-weapon of wood, wherewith one might die, he smote him and he died a manslayer, he is, —the manslayer shall surely die.

19 രക്തപ്രതികാരകൻ തന്നേ കൊലപാതകനെ കൊല്ലേണം; അവനെ കണ്ടുകൂടുമ്പോൾ അവനെ കൊല്ലേണം.

The blood-redeemer, he, shall put to death the man-slayer, —when he lighteth upon him, he, shall put him to death.

20 ആരെങ്കിലും ദ്വേഷംനിമിത്തം ഒരുത്തനെ കുത്തുകയോ കരുതിക്കൂട്ടി അവന്റെമേൽ വല്ലതും എറികയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടു അവൻ മരിച്ചുപോയാൽ,

Or if with hate, he shall thrust at him, or hurl at him designedly, and he have died,

21 അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ശത്രുതയാൽ കൈകൊണ്ടു അവനെ അടിച്ചിട്ടു അവൻ മരിച്ചുപോയാൽ അവനെ കൊന്നവൻ മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം. അവൻ കൊലപാതകൻ; രക്തപ്രതികാരകൻ കൊലപാതകനെ കണ്ടുകൂടുമ്പോൾ കൊന്നുകളയേണം.

or if with enmity, he hath smitten him with his hand and he is dead, then shall he that dealt the blow, be surely put to death. a manslayer, he is—the blood-redeemer shall put to death the man-slayer, when he lighteth upon him.

22 എന്നാൽ ആരെങ്കിലും ശത്രുതകൂടാതെ പെട്ടെന്നു ഒരുത്തനെ കുത്തുകയോ കരുതാതെ വല്ലതും അവന്റെമേൽ എറിഞ്ഞുപോകയോ,

But if suddenly, without enmity, he shall thrust him, or hurl upon him any missile, without design;

23 അവന്നു ശത്രുവായിരിക്കാതെയും അവന്നു ദോഷം വിചാരിക്കാതെയും അവൻ മരിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം അവനെ കാണാതെ കല്ലു എറികയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടു അവൻ മരിച്ചു പോയാൽ

Or with any stone whereby one might die without seeing him, and it fall upon him, and he dieth; he, not being at enmity with him, nor seeking to harm him,

24 കൊലചെയ്തവന്നും രക്തപ്രതികാരകന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ ഈ ന്യായങ്ങളെ അനുസരിച്ചു സഭ വിധിക്കേണം.

then shall the assembly judge, between him that smote and the blood-redeemer, —according to these regulations;

25 കൊലചെയ്തവനെ സഭ രക്തപ്രതികാരകന്റെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കേണം; അവൻ ഓടിപ്പോയിരുന്ന സങ്കേതനഗരത്തിലേക്കു അവനെ മടക്കി അയക്കേണം; വിശുദ്ധതൈലത്താൽ അഭിഷിക്തനായ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ മരണംവരെ അവൻ അവിടെ പാർക്കേണം.

and the assembly shall rescue the manslayer out of the hand of the blood-redeemer, and the assembly shall restore him unto his city of refuge whither he had fled, —and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who hath been anointed with the hallowing oil.

26 എന്നാൽ കൊലചെയ്തവൻ ഓടിപ്പോയിരുന്ന സങ്കേതനഗരത്തിന്റെ അതിർ വിട്ടു പുറത്തു വരികയും

But if the man-slayer, go out, of the bounds of his city of refuge, whereinto he hath fled;

27 അവനെ അവന്റെ സങ്കേതനഗരത്തിന്റെ അതിരിന്നു പുറത്തുവെച്ചു കണ്ടു രക്തപ്രതികാരകൻ കൊലചെയ്തവനെ കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്താൽ അവന്നു രക്തപാതകം ഇല്ല.

and the blood-redeemer, find him, outside the bounds of his city of refuge, then may the blood-redeemer slay the slayer, without being guilty of blood;

28 അവൻ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ മരണംവരെ തന്റെ സങ്കേതനഗരത്തിൽ പാർക്കേണ്ടിയിരുന്നു; എന്നാൽ കൊലചെയ്തവന്നു മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ മരണശേഷം തന്റെ അവകാശഭൂമിയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകാം.

for in his city of refuge, should he have remained, until the death of the high priest, —and, after the death of the high priest, might he have returned into the land which he doth possess.

29 ഇതു നിങ്ങൾക്കു തലമുറതലമുറയായി നിങ്ങളുടെ സകലവാസസ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ന്യായവിധിക്കുള്ള പ്രമാണം ആയിരിക്കേണം.

So shall these serve you as a regulative statute unto your generations, —wheresoever ye may dwell.

30 ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരുത്തനെ കൊന്നാൽ കൊലപാതകൻ സാക്ഷികളുടെ വാമൊഴിപ്രകാരം മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം; എന്നാൽ ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ മരണശിക്ഷെക്കു ഏകസാക്ഷിയുടെ മൊഴി മതിയാകുന്നതല്ല.

Whosoever taketh away life, at the mouth of witnesses, shall, the slayer be slain, —but, one witness, shall not testify against a person, to put him to death.

31 മരണയോഗ്യനായ കൊലപാതകന്റെ ജീവന്നുവേണ്ടി നിങ്ങൾ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുവില വാങ്ങരുതു; അവൻ മരണശിക്ഷ തന്നേ അനുഭവിക്കേണം.

And ye shall accept no ransom for the life of him that slayeth, if he have unlawfully caused death, —but he, must surely be put to death.

32 സങ്കേതനഗരത്തിലേക്കു ഓടിപ്പോയവൻ പുരോഹിതന്റെ മരണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ നാട്ടിൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു പാർക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും നിങ്ങൾ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുവില വാങ്ങരുതു.

And ye shall accept no ransom for him that hath fled to his city of refuge, if he should return to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.

33 നിങ്ങൾ പാർക്കുന്ന ദേശം അങ്ങനെ അശുദ്ധമാക്കരുതു; രക്തം ദേശത്തെ അശുദ്ധമാക്കുന്നു; ദേശത്തിൽ ചൊരിഞ്ഞ രക്തത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി രക്തം ചൊരിയിച്ചവന്റെ രക്തത്താൽ അല്ലാതെ ദേശത്തിന്നു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം സാദ്ധ്യമല്ല.

So shall ye not pollute the land wherein ye are, for blood, doth pollute the land, and for the land, no propitiatory-covering can be made, as touching blood, that is shed therein, save with the blood of him that shed it;

34 അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ അധിവസിക്കുന്ന നിങ്ങളുടെ പാർപ്പിടമായ ദേശം അശുദ്ധമാക്കരുതു; യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ യഹോവയായ ഞാൻ അധിവസിക്കുന്നു.

thou must not then make unclean the land wherein, ye, are dwelling, in the midst of which, I, have my habitation; for, I,—Yahweh, am making my habitation in the midst of the sons of Israel.
