1 യഹോവ പിന്നെയും മോശെയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു:
And there, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2 യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്കു ഞാൻ കൊടുപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്ന കനാൻദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആളുകളെ അയക്ക; അതതു ഗോത്രത്തിൽനിന്നു ഓരോ ആളെ അയക്കേണം; അവരെല്ലാവരും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരായിരിക്കേണം.
“Send men, who may examine the land of Canaan, which I will give to the sons of Israel, one from the rulers of each tribe.”
3 അങ്ങനെ മോശെ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം പാരാൻമരുഭൂമിയിൽനിന്നു അവരെ അയച്ചു; ആ പുരുഷന്മാർ ഒക്കെയും യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ തലവന്മാർ ആയിരുന്നു.
Moses did what the Lord had commanded, sending, from the desert of Paran, leading men, whose names are these:
4 അവരുടെ പേർ ആവിതു: രൂബേൻ ഗോത്രത്തിൽ സക്കൂറിന്റെ മകൻ ശമ്മൂവ.
from the tribe of Ruben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;
5 ശിമേയോൻ ഗോത്രത്തിൽ ഹോരിയുടെ മകൻ ശഫാത്ത്.
from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിൽ യെഫുന്നയുടെ മകൻ കാലേബ്.
from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
7 യിസ്സാഖാർഗോത്രത്തിൽ യോസേഫിന്റെ മകൻ ഈഗാൽ.
from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
8 എഫ്രയീംഗോത്രത്തിൽ നൂന്റെ മകൻ ഹോശേയ.
from the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea the son of Nun;
9 ബെന്യാമീൻഗോത്രത്തിൽ രാഫൂവിന്റെ മകൻ പൽതി.
from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
10 സെബൂലൂൻഗോത്രത്തിൽ സോദിയുടെ മകൻ ഗദ്ദീയേൽ
from the tribe of Zebulon, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
11 യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗോത്രമായ മനശ്ശെഗോത്രത്തിൽ സൂസിയുടെ മകൻ ഗദ്ദി.
from the tribe of Joseph, of the scepter of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;
12 ദാൻഗോത്രത്തിൽ ഗെമല്ലിയുടെ മകൻ അമ്മീയേൽ.
from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
13 ആശേർഗോത്രത്തിൽ മിഖായേലിന്റെ മകൻ സെഥൂർ.
from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
14 നഫ്താലിഗോത്രത്തിൽ വൊപ്സിയുടെ മകൻ നഹ്ബി.
from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
15 ഗാദ്ഗോത്രത്തിൽ മാഖിയുടെ മകൻ ഗയൂവേൽ.
from the tribe of Gad, Guel the son of Machi.
16 ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ മോശെ അയച്ച പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ പേർ ഇവ തന്നേ. എന്നാൽ മോശെ നൂന്റെ മകനായ ഹോശേയെക്കു യോശുവ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to examine the land. And he called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.
17 മോശെ കനാൻദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ അവരെ അയച്ചു അവരോടു: നിങ്ങൾ ഈ വഴി തെക്കെ ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു മലയിൽ കയറി:
And so, Moses sent them to examine the land of Canaan, and he said to them: “Ascend by the south side. And when you arrive at the mountains,
18 ദേശം ഏതുവിധമുള്ളതു, അതിൽ കുടിയിരിക്കുന്ന ജനം ബലവാന്മാരോ ബലഹീനരോ, ചുരുക്കമോ അധികമോ;
consider the land, as to what kind it may be, and the people, who are its inhabitants, whether they may be strong or weak, whether they may be few in number or many,
19 അവർ പാർക്കുന്ന ദേശം നല്ലതോ ആകാത്തതോ, അവർ വസിക്കുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങൾ പാളയങ്ങളോ കോട്ടകളോ,
and the land itself, whether it is good or bad, what kind of cities, walled or without walls,
20 ദേശം പുഷ്ടിയുള്ളതോ പുഷ്ടിയില്ലാത്തതോ, അതിൽ വൃക്ഷം ഉണ്ടോ ഇല്ലയോ എന്നിങ്ങനെ നോക്കിയറിവിൻ; നിങ്ങൾ ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു ദേശത്തിലെ ഫലങ്ങളും കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതു മുന്തിരിങ്ങ പഴുത്തു തുടങ്ങുന്ന കാലം ആയിരുന്നു.
the soil, rich or barren, forested or without trees. Be strong, and bring us some of the fruits of the land.” Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes were ready to be eaten.
21 അങ്ങനെ അവർ കയറിപ്പോയി, സീൻമരുഭൂമിമുതൽ ഹാമാത്തിന്നുപോകുന്ന വഴിയായി രഹോബ് വരെ ദേശത്തെ ശോധനചെയ്തു.
And when they had ascended, they explored the land from the desert of Sin, all the way to Rehob, as one enters into Hamath.
22 അവർ തെക്കെദേശത്തുകൂടി ചെന്നു ഹെബ്രോനിൽ എത്തി; അവിടെ അനാക്കിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ അഹീമാനും ശേശായിയും തൽമായിയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹെബ്രോൻ മിസ്രയീമിലെ സോവാരിന്നു ഏഴു സംവത്സരം മുമ്പെ പണിതതായിരുന്നു.
And they ascended by the south side. And they arrived at Hebron, where there were Ahiman and Shishai and Talmai, the sons of Anak. For Hebron was founded seven years before Tanis, the city of Egypt.
23 അവർ എസ്കോൽതാഴ്‌വരയോളം ചെന്നു അവിടെനിന്നു ഒരു മുന്തിരിവള്ളി കുലയോടെ പറിച്ചെടുത്തു ഒരു തണ്ടിന്മേൽ കെട്ടി രണ്ടുപേർകൂടി ചുമന്നു; അവർ മാതളപ്പഴവും അത്തിപ്പഴവും കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.
And continuing on as far as the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, they cut off a vine with its grapes, which two men carried on a board. Likewise, they took from the pomegranates and the figs of that place,
24 യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ അവിടെനിന്നു മുറിച്ചെടുത്ത മുന്തിരിക്കുലനിമിത്തം ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു എസ്കോൽതാഴ്‌വര എന്നു പേരായി.
which was called Nehel Eshcol, that is, the Torrent of the Cluster of Grapes, because the sons of Israel had carried a cluster of grapes from there.
25 അവർ നാല്പതു ദിവസംകൊണ്ടു ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു മടങ്ങിവന്നു.
And those exploring the land returned after forty days, having circulated through the entire region.
26 അവർ യാത്രചെയ്തു പാറാൻമരുഭൂമിയിലെ കാദേശിൽ മോശെയുടെയും അഹരോന്റെയും യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ സർവ്വസഭയുടെയും അടുക്കൽ വന്നു അവരോടും സർവ്വസഭയോടും വർത്തമാനം അറിയിച്ചു; ദേശത്തിലെ ഫലങ്ങളും അവരെ കാണിച്ചു.
And they went to Moses and Aaron, and to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel in the desert of Paran, which is in Kadesh. And speaking to them, and to the entire multitude, they showed them the fruits of the land.
27 അവർ അവനോടു വിവരിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ: നീ ഞങ്ങളെ അയച്ച ദേശത്തേക്കു ഞങ്ങൾ പോയി; അതു പാലും തേനും ഒഴുകുന്ന ദേശം തന്നേ; അതിലെ ഫലങ്ങൾ ഇതാ.
And they explained, saying: “We went into the land, to which you sent us, which, it is true, flows with milk and honey, as one can know by these fruits.
28 എങ്കിലും ദേശത്തു പാർക്കുന്ന ജനങ്ങൾ ബലവാന്മാരും പട്ടണങ്ങൾ ഏറ്റവും ഉറപ്പും വലിപ്പവും ഉള്ളവയും ആകുന്നു. ഞങ്ങൾ അനാക്കിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും അവിടെ കണ്ടു.
But it has very strong occupants, and the cities are great and also walled. We saw the race of Anak there.
29 അമാലേക്യർ തെക്കെ ദേശത്തു പാർക്കുന്നു; ഹിത്യരും യെബൂസ്യരും അമോര്യരും പർവ്വതങ്ങളിൽ പാർക്കുന്നു; കനാന്യർ കടൽക്കരയിലും യോർദ്ദാൻനദീതീരത്തും പാർക്കുന്നു.
Amalek lives in the south. The Hethite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the mountains. And truly, the Canaanite stays near the sea and around the streams of the Jordan.”
30 എന്നാൽ കാലേബ് മോശെയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ജനത്തെ അമർത്തി: നാം ചെന്നു അതു കൈവശമാക്കുക; അതു ജയിപ്പാൻ നമുക്കു കഴിയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
During these events, Caleb, to restrain the murmuring of the people who rose up against Moses, said, “Let us ascend and possess the land, for we will be able to obtain it.”
31 എങ്കിലും അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയിരുന്ന പുരുഷന്മാർ: ആ ജനത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുവാൻ നമുക്കു കഴികയില്ല; അവർ നമ്മിലും ബലവാന്മാർ ആകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Yet truly, the others, who had been with him, were saying, “By no means are we able to ascend to this people, because they are stronger than we are.”
32 തങ്ങൾ ഒറ്റുനോക്കിയ ദേശത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു അവർ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളോടു ദുർവ്വർത്തമാനമായി പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ: ഞങ്ങൾ സഞ്ചരിച്ചു ഒറ്റുനോക്കിയ ദേശം നിവാസികളെ തിന്നുകളയുന്ന ദേശം ആകുന്നു; ഞങ്ങൾ അവിടെ കണ്ട ജനം ഒക്കെയും അതികായന്മാർ;
And before the sons of Israel they disparaged the land, which they had inspected, saying: “The land, which we viewed, devours its inhabitants. The people, upon whom we gazed, were of lofty stature.
33 അവിടെ ഞങ്ങൾ മല്ലന്മാരുടെ സന്തികളായ അനാക്യമല്ലന്മാരെയും കണ്ടു; ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തന്നേ ഞങ്ങൾ വെട്ടുക്കിളികളെപ്പോലെ തോന്നി; അവരുടെ കാഴ്ചെക്കും ഞങ്ങൾ അങ്ങനെതന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു.
There, we saw some monsters among the sons of Anak, of the race of giants; by comparison with them, we seemed like locusts.”
